Si & Veronica are feeling our second wind for episode 238! And we are also wishing Si a happy 35th birthday! This week on the beach was a bit boring compared to the mess we have seen. The girls got the roses by default because Sarah had to go home for a family emergency. Victoria picks Johnny out of her triangle, but Alex gets the production pick by Florence. This is the week of the ladies testing the men to see how far they would go to pick them if they get picked for dates. Eliza tests Rodney and Kate tests Logan and both men let the girls go on their other dates, which the women aren't happy with. Genevieve and Aaron show their dramatic hot and cold sides this week and Genevieve almost commits to going home. The twins make their arrival and Florence and Shanae are willing cougars. Bachelor Nation had a few big and small wedding this past week with Madi Prewett not having to wait any longer with her marriage to Grant Troutt, Astrid Loch and Kevin Wendt tying the knot, and Serena and Joe doing a quick wedding at City Hall. (Bachelor talk ends at time marker 44m:34s) Rest in peace to Takeoff. Truly gone too soon and so senselessly. When I heard about this woman who runs a healing centre offering touch starvation and cuddle therapy for men out of her own home, I knew I had to invite her on this podcast. Her name is Kat. And not only is her own story super inspiring, but her approach to helping men and couples heal from symptoms of touch starvation - lack of intimate, physical contact with others - is remarkable. Physical intimacy in our relationships (outside of sex) is vital for our mental, emotional and physical health. But in a society where many men still suppress or balk at their need for physical and emotional intimacy, therapy involving gentle touching and platonic cuddling is catching on. And for good reason, as you're about to hear - it works. In this episode, Kat and I are talking about: Why men, in particular, often suffer from touch starvation Why touch and physical intimacy outside of sex is so important in a relationship How sexually active relationships can still lack physical intimacy Symptoms and effects of touch starvation How a cuddle therapy session works Effects and benefits of cuddle therapy Masculine stigmas that cause many men to suffer Why Kat focuses her healing therapy mainly on men Why Kat chose to focus on helping men heal, despite being a victim of abuse by a man CONNECT WITH EMILY Book a private coaching call with Emily to work together. David Baum What is the Move For Wellness? Officially the Move For Wellness started on February 1 2021, right in the middle of a global lockdown. The reason we launched it was simple, we in the UK were in the middle of winter, often far too cold or wet to go for a walk so it meant most people were binge watching on Box Sets and eating junk food and getting MISERABLE. However, it is a proven fact that to feel good about life you need to raise your endorphins and there are 4 ways generally to do this: 1) Exercise including dance 2) Laughter, how do you feel when you hear someone else laugh or watch a comedy, 3) Cuddle a pet or 4) Intimate pleasure. Now for obvious reasons we could only address one of these four EXERCISE. During lockdowns there were many amazing P.T's (personal trainers) sharing exercise programmes which encouraged people to be active in their own homes, for many the thought of doing a 20-30 minute exercise class was TERRIFYING. These are people who would love to get fit but often they are suffering from a debilitating illness or stuck in one room apartment or feeling blue and the last thing they wanted to do was follow a fitness programme, in fact most P.T's will tell you the number of people taking part would drop considerably, so we decided to do something about it and came up with the daily Move For Wellness exercise session. Each session lasts for 2.21minutes, so anyone watching can chose how many times they want to do it. We hoped that we would appeal to a cross section of people able bodied and not so able bodied. We were delighted when we were joined by the amazing Nancie from Texas who suffers from Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, which following an accident has meant Nancie is mostly in a wheelchair. However, Nancie has been attending rehab and started to see our daily Twitter posts and now adapts every single exercise so that a disabled person can take part. Or how about Ngufan a single mother from Nigeria, who is a teacher who after starting to take part remembered that she loved dancing, and every day she puts on some music and just dances. Ngufan has told me that she now has found that she actually now enjoys her life and because she is happy her 5 year old son is also happy and they often just laugh. We are so proud that we now have over 100,000 globally people taking part. However, the exercise programme is just one part of what the Move For Wellness is about, it is also about raising a small amount of money £365,000 We are on all social media platforms Facebook @Moveforwellness – Twitter @MoveWellness21 – Instagram @Moveforwellness21 – TikTok @MoveforwellnessSource: https://businessinnovatorsradio.com/david-baum-move-for-wellness-mark-stephen-pooler

Although Teresa comes from generations of makers, she was the first to pursue quilting as a career when she, as she puts it, “stumbled into the quilting industry.” It began in 2011 when she joined the crew at the Fabric Shop Network and then became editor of Websense magazine. Teresa started out making garments using patterns from The Big Four. From there she discovered Indie pattern makers and vintage patterns, and really started working with non-traditional fabrics like painted canvas and double chiffons, and other weird fabrics and piecing them together to make different types of quilts. After coming on board with Shannon Fabrics, she began specializing in Shannon's Cuddle® fabrics, a 100% polyester microfiber plush fabric. Today Teresa uses these fabrics to create unique quilts, crafts, home décor, and apparel. (2:12 – 11:11)As she continues talking about her journey, she shares how a trip to Vietnam in 2007 with her children changed everything for her. After volunteering at several orphanages there, Teresa continued her outreach work. It's a fascinating story of bringing caring and hope to young Vietnamese children, and of working with others in the sewing community to provide much-needed goods to Vietnam orphanages. Because of the profound impact it had on her, Teresa hopes to return to Vietnam within the next couple of years. (11:11 – 15:24)Meanwhile, Teresa is traveling the US with her partner, videographer, and RV driver Hawke who is working with her to bring Shannon Fabrics' Sew Together Tuesdays to live audiences across America. On the road ten out of the last twelve months, they've been to 43 states, where Teresa has taught in all kinds of beautiful and charming quilt shops, met all kinds of interesting people, and experienced countless joyful moments. She talks about the range of different shops and fabrics and creative focuses, from heirloom sewing to embroidery, traditional quilting to modern clothes. She also shares the one thing that all of these shop owners have in common, which is their deep love for the industry. According to Teresa, her time on the road never stops being entertaining. Her connection to the myriad of people she meets on the road continues via her Facebook group, “I Love Cuddle® Fabric.” She loves what she does so much, she plans to continue teaching and hopes to add more pattern-making into her creative endeavors. “I get to teach. I get to learn. And that's the thing that makes me happy.” (22:07-30:04)Be sure to listen in on our casual conversation with Teresa for inspiration, insights, and a lot of smiles. If you'd like to connect with Teresa, you can reach her at Teresa@Shannonfabrics.com or at her I Love Cuddle® Fabric Facebook page.If you know someone who has an outstanding story that should be shared on this podcast, or what to comment or just say hello - drop Meg a note to Meg@sewandsopodcast.com or complete the form on our website

We have talked about the different ways in which businesses get started on this show many, many times. The most common answers are people being frustrated that something does not exist and then creating it, or people seeing a product or service and knowing that they could do it better. While these encompass the vast majority of stimulus behind business development, there are other reasons that can be even more compelling. In today's episode our guests, Karen and Nik Fitch, will share their story of the development of the Cuddle Cow Company and how unbelievable adversity inspired this business. Nik and Karen have been married since 2017, and prior to meeting each other they were both already on a path to farming and raising cattle. After they exchanged vows, they were able to obtain a farm together that was in CRP. This gave them time to focus on fixing up facilities as well as the home, and they continued to build a herd of cattle that Karen had already started on her father's property. Since she was very young, Karen had been dealing with a congenital condition called "AVM" or "arterial venous malformation" which was located on her upper spine. This had required constant monitoring by physicians and some surgery to deal with, but the prognosis was good. However, in 2019, quite by surprise, that all changed and Karen found herself with a significant spinal cord injury as a result of the "AVM". This led to months in multiple different hospitals, her having a very elevated risk to Covid when that began and her not not having the use of her limbs and needing 24 hour care. This is the type of situation that can and does lead so many people to lose hope or to blame the world for being unfair. However, in Karen and Nik's case it led to inspiration. After the spinal cord injury took place they were inspired to start a business that would raise money for spinal cord research at the same time as it functioned as a business for them. Seeing a gentleman whose business model was donating a pair of shoes to somebody in need for every pair that he sold inspired them to try the same thing. There were a few criteria for this business. First, they wanted the business to somehow share their farm and love of agriculture with the world. Second, they wanted the business to help further spinal cord research. And last, they wanted to provide the comfort to their customers that had been brought to Karen when somebody sent her a blanket to snuggle with while she was in the hospital. Cuddle Cow Company was born. In today's episode hear the incredible story from Karen and Nik themselves, and find out all about how they decided to sell blankets, how they are able to enhance those blankets and how they have broadened their product line!
