You're his cool big sister — but you moved across the country, and the window of influence is closing fast. How do you pull him back before it's too late?Your former mother-in-law is elderly, broke, and living with an ex-husband who steals from her and destroys her belongings. Her own sons won't lift a finger. She's made you — her ex-daughter-in-law — the executor of her estate. How far does your obligation really go here? You're 16 and you keep zoning out — during lessons, video calls, even just sitting still — making weird facial expressions and missing entire conversations. It's affecting your schoolwork and your social life. What's going on, and what can you actually do about it?Recommendation of the Week: The "reduce interruptions" focus mode on Mac and iPhone — a middle ground between Do Not Disturb and chaos that lets the right people reach you while filtering out the noise. There seem to be comparable settings for Android users. You trusted your manager as a mentor for years — until a combative team lead falsely accused you in a heated meeting, then complained to your manager first. Passport Bros claim fleeing abroad solves their dating woes. Nick Pell explains why they're in for a rude awakening on this Skeptical Sunday.Welcome to Skeptical Sunday, a special edition of The Jordan Harbinger Show where Jordan and a guest break down a topic that you may have never thought about, open things up, and debunk common misconceptions. This time around, we're joined by writer and researcher Nick Pell!Full show notes and resources can be found here: jordanharbinger.com/1285On This Week's Skeptical Sunday:The "Passport Bro" phenomenon is fueled by two overlapping myths — that all Western women are "too feminist" to date, and that women abroad are uniformly docile and grateful for Western husbands — but both stereotypes collapse under scrutiny and bear little relationship to reality. The economic leverage passport bros think they'll have abroad is largely outdated fantasy. The global middle class has risen dramatically, emerging economies now account for two-thirds of global GDP growth, and women in many "destination" countries are often more educated than the men showing up.Women abroad aren't passive targets — they have agency, savvy, and often family networks deeply involved in vetting potential partners. In more "traditional" societies, passport bros face scrutiny from entire extended families, not just individual women making solo decisions. The phenomenon attracts real danger: romance scams have exploded 238 times over, Colombia has State Department warnings due to a 200% increase in dating-app-related robberies, and men get drugged, catfished, and sextorted with alarming regularity.Cross-cultural relationships absolutely can work — the key is approaching them with realistic expectations rather than red-pill fantasies. Learning about actual cultural values, staying alert to scams, and treating potential partners as individuals rather than stereotypes is the foundation for genuine connection abroad.Connect with Jordan on Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube. Why do we rubberneck accidents and binge true crime? Behavioral scientist Coltan Scrivner explains the surprising psychology behind our morbid curiosity.Full show notes and resources can be found here: jordanharbinger.com/1276What We Discuss with Coltan Scrivner:Morbid curiosity isn't a character flaw — it's an evolutionary feature. The same instinct that makes us rubberneck at accidents helped our ancestors learn about threats without becoming victims themselves. It's your brain's built-in threat-assessment system, gathering intel from a safe distance.Horror movies work because of a specific formula: an overwhelmingly powerful villain versus a vulnerable protagonist. That imbalance — think Pennywise hunting kids or Jason stalking camp counselors — triggers our threat-detection systems in ways action films simply can't replicate.True crime's massive female audience isn't random. Women face threats primarily from people they know, so their curiosity focuses on spotting danger signals and understanding how predators operate. Men, who historically face violence from strangers, gravitate toward watching combat simulations like UFC.Decades of research and millions of dollars confirm: violent video games don't create violent people. The Mortal Kombat moral panic of the nineties produced the ESRB rating system — but the generation raised on those pixelated fatalities turned out just fine.Engaging with scary play — whether horror films, spooky games, or even childhood tag — actually builds emotional resilience. Kids who experience controlled fear learn to regulate anxiety, giving them psychological tools to handle real-world stress as adults. So don't skip the haunted house. And much more...And if you're still game to support us, please leave a review here — even one sentence helps! A Time Like No Other: My Journey 1946-1967 by Ken Rand Kenrand.net https://www.amazon.com/Time-Like-No-Other-1946-1947/dp/1969865504 Historians have labeled the 50s and 60s as a ‘time of innocence, and many feel it was the greatest generation. In the early 50s, we witnessed the birth of television (in black and white). And it was live TV, where the unpredictable could-and would-happen. People felt safe, and it wasn’t unusual for them to leave their cars and front doors unlocked. In the 50s and 60s, we did not have cell phones or computers for texting and email. We communicated by talking to each other (sometimes for hours) and we wrote ‘hand-written’ letters; imagine that. Things were so different then. Milk and meat tasted different, and even tap water tasted better, (bottled water? What’s that?), It was also a time when women’s rights and the civil rights movement gained momentum. The world was beginning to change. I have two goals in writing this book. One is to share my personal life journey and memories with you, and the other is to provide you with a picture of what was happening in the world, especially in the United States, at that time. You will soon draw your own conclusions about whether the time in which we baby boomers were brought up was truly “A Time Like No Other.” If you were born in the 50s or 60s, I know you will cherish this journey and my personal stories. If you weren’t, then sit back, relax, read, and enjoy what you’ve missed. Put on your seatbelts. About the author Ken Rand is an award-winning math instructor who retired in 2015 after forty-seven years of teaching. His teaching experiences include a variety of educational levels, beginning with JHS in the Bronx, New York, and then HS in White Plains, New York, and then two- and four-year colleges in California. Known for his classroom story-telling technique, Ken has found a way to bring those classic stories to life in his Amazon bestselling book, One Student at a Time: A Teacher's Journey. He is also writing a follow-up book with co-author Kim Thomas titled One Teacher at a Time: Teach-Inspire-Change.

He has finally got to gig with his band and those that have followed the tale for the last, err, two years may be interested to hear how it went. Brian managed to spark panic with his pre-gig advice.Richard had a great gig experience watching the band Jamiroquai but it was slightly tainted by the people he sat next to and he tells us of his many woes. There was some sad news from the entertainment world this week and the guys discuss it. JHS and Electro Harmonix have collaborated on the Big Muff 2 and the guys all love it for various reasons which they debate. Brian looks at some of the nerdier aspects of the circuit before making some shocking goat based revelations. Chasing Tone - Guitar Podcast About Gear, Effects, Amps and Tone
Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for Episode 594 of the Chasing Tone Podcast - Brian breaks the Internet as Wampler debut The Compulsion DriveBrian has turned into Pedal Santa and Richard has been making new friends by daring to try something experimental on the Internet and the guys discuss it. Fair warning - there may be some ranting as there was a bit of a pile-on and our intrepid British King of Fuzz had to fight them off at the drawbridge (insert trumpet sound here). Wampler released The Compulsion Drive (TCD) which was Brian's tribute to a famous circuit and it has proved very popular for a number of reasons. The guys discuss some of the modifications Brian made, the special not-so-hidden dip-switches, and talk a little about some of the design choices that were made. Ozzy Osbourne's estate have put out a T-shirt that made the guys giggle in a puerile way and so it needs to be discussed. Meanwhile Josh Scott of JHS has been working on a new charity project and it has impressed Richard into sarcasm submission. IK Multimedia have released the ToneX in a new format and it inspires the chaps to come up with a whole new product. Richard wishes to bring Brian to Englandshire for Christmas. Are gear influencer's not as influential as they once were? Money and power are merging on the high seas. The New Yorker's Evan Osnos exposes how super yachts became the new seat of American oligarchy.Full show notes and resources can be found here: jordanharbinger.com/1217What We Discuss with Evan Osnos:Billionaire political donations increased 200x in 20 years ($25M to $3B in 2024), marking America's shift from democracy to oligarchy — where economic and political power fuse.Super yachts are floating power centers — not just status symbols but boardrooms, tax havens, and networking hubs where billion-dollar deals happen beyond public scrutiny and regulation. Each super yacht pollutes like 1,500 cars running continuously, costs 10 percent of its purchase price annually to maintain, and creates toxic work environments for crew in legal gray zones. The ultra-wealthy face insatiable desire — where 50-meter boats become "embarrassing," half-billion-dollar yachts are "quite nice," and satisfaction remains perpetually out of reach.History shows extreme inequality resolves through crisis — war, revolution, or pandemic. But we can prevent these outcomes by making systems less advantageous to the few and more inclusive to all. Support politicians who limit campaign finance influence. Vote with your wallet. Build communities that value contribution over consumption. Small actions compound: we shape culture by what we celebrate and reject. And much more...And if you're still game to support us, please leave a review here — even one sentence helps! The war between faith and facts threatens American progress on multiple fronts. Michael Regilio dissects this age-old conflict today on Skeptical Sunday!Welcome to Skeptical Sunday, a special edition of The Jordan Harbinger Show where Jordan and a guest break down a topic that you may have never thought about, open things up, and debunk common misconceptions. This time around, we're joined by skeptic, comedian, and podcaster Michael Regilio!Full show notes and resources can be found here: jordanharbinger.com/1200On This Week's Skeptical Sunday:Throughout history, from Socrates to Galileo, religious authorities have consistently opposed scientific inquiry that challenges established beliefs — often with severe consequences including death and persecution.American fundamentalist Christians continue fighting evolution in schools, adopting tactics from outright bans to "creation science" to "Intelligent Design" — all repeatedly struck down by courts as unconstitutional.Religious opposition to science directly impacts public policy, hampering stem cell research, climate action, and pandemic response — with white evangelicals having the lowest COVID vaccination rates.Faith-based practices like conversion therapy cause documented psychological harm despite being condemned by all major medical associations — prioritizing religious doctrine over scientific evidence and human wellbeing. Many scientists are religious believers who see science as understanding creation, not replacing it — showing faith and science can coexist when literalism gives way to metaphorical interpretation and evidence-based thinking.Connect with Jordan on Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube.
