Welcome back to another episode of the Max + Vince Podcast. It's another busy week around the LAFC Performance Center. Max and Vince recorded on Tuesday before LAFC took on Austin FC in a pivotal Western Conference matchup. The guys talk a little bit about the Austin match, including injury updates for players like Brian Rodriguez and Eddie Segura. Before that, we touch on the loss to Colorado. It was going to happen sooner or later, and whether it was altitude, fatigue, or something else, this was a dud for the Black & Gold. Max and Vince give their thoughts on the drain of an MLS season, especially when midweek matches start to become a thing. Because we're recording during a busy week and we won't get a chance to talk about Austin until next week, the guys welcome a very special guest. LAFC Director of Football Operations Marco Garcés joins the show. We had so much to cover, we're thinking we need to bring Marco back a few times. But in this episode, we talk to Marco about his background in Liga MX. He shares with us why he jumped at the chance to move to MLS and LAFC in particular. We ask about scouting talent in the Los Angeles area and what he looks for in a player. We also talk about his time as a scout for Sir Alex Ferguson and Manchester United and how scouting for LAFC, Pachuca, and Manchester United is similar in many ways. All that and more on another new episode of the Max + Vince Podcast. Please don't forget to subscribe, rate, review, and share with a friend!
The Columbus Crew go to Yankee Stadium and get shut out by defending MLS champs NYCFC. Brian, Murph, Thomas, and Sam break down the game, possible solutions for this team, and look ahead to the home double header of Crew vs LAFC and Crew II vs TFC II.

With long lines to get into the stadium in both the parking lot and entrance gates, the LA Galaxy were already burning goodwill. But to come out flat against a Dallas side that was intent on destroying you and having no reaction? That's not how playoff teams are made. And it's not how Champions react. On today's show, hosts Josh Guesman and Kevin Baxter want to break down the loss to Dallas. And even when the defense gives up three goals, the main focus will be on the offense. Because the Galaxy have proven to be a good defensive team, but they haven't proven to be a good offensive team. Josh and Kevin will talk about Boxing's big day at Dignity Health Sports Park and why the stadium over-extended itself. And why, if you were one of the people scrambling to get inside the stadium, you would have done better staying outside? And if Chicharito is slumping and bringing on Dejan Joveljic doesn't change anything, then you need to look at how you put them in the best positions. So who is going to make the angling balls, and who is going to make the run dictate the pass? The games are coming fast and furious now. The Galaxy will play Minnesota United midweek, Houston over the weekend, LAFC next week in the Open Cup, and then close out the month with Austin. So how does Vanney manage that stretch of games? And do the Galaxy have a problem winning the big games -- winning those that will move them up the standings? We've got a great show for you today. And you're going to want to catch every single word!
On Saturday, a Planned Parenthood-organized abortion rights rally drew about 10,000 protesters and a Donald Trump rally drew about 8,000 attendees - friction between the two sides was superficial at worst, and both events concluded with very little police interaction. Early voting begins today for the runoffs of both parties' primaries. Lawsuits against Alex Jones by families of Sandy Hook shooting victims appear set to proceed, after the sorting out of bankruptcies filed for several of Jones' media holdings. After being asked to conserve power over the weekend, Texans now face a likely record-breaking wave of heat and thus power demand through much of this week, though cooler temps and rain may be on the way before June. Just when we need a cool dip, the opening of many of Austin's pools will be delayed due to ongoing lifeguard shortages. Austin rent is rising fast, for sure - but it's increasing even faster in Round Rock, Pflugerville and Georgetown. If you're shocked by your recent home value appraisal, and you're looking for someone to blame, Texas Monthly has an outline of that complex picture from the perspective of an East Austin homeowner. If you missed last night's total lunar eclipse, don't sweat it - the next one will happen in November. The Austin Animal Center has issued an urgent call for volunteers, fosters and adopters, as their shelter capacity is now consistently beyond limits. Former Texas and NFL safety Earl Thomas, who had been wanted for weeks on a warrant for violating a protective order, was arrested Friday night at a restaurant in Orange, just east of Port Arthur and Beaumont. Austin FC dropped their second match in a row this weekend, losing to Real Salt Lake 2-1 on the road - the conference-leading LAFC visit Q2 Stadium on Wednesday. Texas Softball prepares for this weekend's NCAA Seattle Regional, as head coach Mike White issues an apology for flipping a referee the bird during the Big 12 tournamant. And, Kendrick Lamar has announced a concert at the Moody Center on July 21 - tickets go on sale Friday.
For the fourth time in 14 days, LAFC is set to play. (Don't worry, we will do this all over again in the next 14 days) Tired, injured, and traveling a mile high to Commerce City, LAFC looked the part in their 2-0 loss to the Rapids, and you'll hear all about it here on Episode 193 of Defenders of the Banc.It all fell apart in the first half-hour for LAFC, as Sebastian Ibeagha and Pancho Ginella were both whistled for fouls in the box. Colorado buried both the penalties, though not without a solid effort on both by John McCarthy, the backup-turned-starter for the Black and Gold. Truth be told, McCarthy was pretty much the only bright spot for LAFC on the day. His four saves and several other great plays kept LAFC in the match. There simply weren't many opportunities for an obviously-tired club. LAFC forced just two saves by Yarbrough, both of the garden variety, and LAFC head home for their second 2-week-4-match set. Also on this episode, find out which dwarf Filly would be from Snow White, how many different words Scarf makes up, and what the heck the Defenders were doing during the match. We'll be back very soon for 194!
The Colorado Rapids beat Carlos Vela and LAFC in convincing fashion. The Colorado Rapids were coming off a tough loss against Minnesota United in US Open Cup. Max and Vince talk about LAFC's dangerous set pieces and how the match lived up to the hype. After that, we break down how LAFC took out the Timbers before Max and Vince give their take on a big rumor floating around LAFC. After that, it's time to bring Dave Denholm onto the show. The 2022 US Open Cup roars on at Band of California Stadium, and for the third time, we take on the Portland Timbers. We beat them in 2018. They returned the favor in 2019. In 2022, it's the rubber match, and LAFC brought their axes to the Banc!On a beautiful Tuesday night, Steve Cherundolo rolled out a lineup worthy of most MLS contests. Gone were the ideas of going conservative, with 7 matches in May and three more in just 11 days. It was clear from the outset that LAFC was going for it tonight, and go for it they did!The Black and Gold would FINALLY get off to the strong start they needed, with Chicho Arango scoring off a beautiful backheel after a fantastic one-two from Mamadou and Mahala. After heading into the half up 1-0, LAFC added to it just 9 minutes later off a beautiful one-timer at the top of the box by the 19-year-old wunderkind, Fall. Down 2-0, Portland attempted to push all their chips in the middle, bringing stars Yimmi, Niezgoda, and Blanco off the bench to make one more run. LAFC would counter with Pancho Ginella and Franco Escobar, and after a few more great saves from Maxime Crepeau, LAFC booked their ticket to the Round of 16 with a convincing 2-goal win. Also on this episode, the boys get back to their singing ways, the Field Club gets a Lexus, and the "Wait, What?" moment makes its triumphant return! We'll be back in just a few short days to bring you all the fun from Colorado, but, until then, enjoy Episode 192 of "The Most LAFC Podcast on Earth!"

LAFC begin their biggest and longest test of the season, with 5 matches in just 15 days. The first of the five is a showdown with the best club in the East, the Philadelphia Union, the last team LAFC played pre-pandemic. Their last match was a 3-3 knockdown heavyweight draw. This one begs for a trilogy to settle it, as the two combatants play to another draw, this time 2-2. Despite controlling much of the run of play, LAFC would give up an early goal yet again. In the 9th minute, Daniel Gazdag puts Philly on top after a beautiful set of passes in and around the box. LAFC would mount attack after attack in the first half, mostly off of their seven first-half corners. The Union, however, would make it to the half up 1-0.As LAFC does, they would come out swinging in the second half. Just 12 minutes in, Mahala would find the equalizer with a laser beam over the right shoulder of Andre Blake. The sheer joy in a Mahala goal celebration seems like it would power the entire stadium. In the 67th minute, however, LAFC would surrender their first second-half regular-season goal of 2022, as Julian Carranza bends one around the outstretched arms of Maxime Crepeau to once again give the Union the lead. But in this fight, no lead was safe, as LAFC proved in the 82nd minute. It comes off a corner (of course) from Carlos Vela (of course), which finds its way to Cifu. CIfu's shot is saved by a diving Blake, but the rebound comes off to a wide open Franco Escobar, who may have salted away the starting RB spot with his performance in this match. After an absolutely insane bicycle attempt by Mamadou Fall and plenty of Sharks vs. Jets posturing on both sides after the match, the great refs at PRO blow it dead for a 2-2 draw. What a match! Also in this episode, we check in on Adama Diomande, we welcome Nathan Ordaz to the family, and try to let our moms know exactly how much we love them. To ALL of the other moms out there in Defenders Nation, we hope you all have a wonderful, happy, and healthy Mother's Day as well! See you all real, real soon for Episode 192!

There are just a couple of matches left in most domestic leagues in Europe, meaning that it's now or never for a lot of things. Title races, relegation scraps, promotion tussles - there's absolutely loads left to play for across the continent. On today's episode we look at the most exciting things left to play for this season - from Man City vs. Liverpool and Inter vs. Milan at the top of the tables, to the survival salvos taking place in the Premier League, Serie A and La Liga; as well as the race to reach Europe in Spain and Italy, where all sorts is still going on in the Europa and Conference League battles, and the fight to reach the top flight in the 2. Bundesliga. As you might expect, the Things We Love from a rather hoarse Dean and Jack talks about Fulham's dismantling of Luton Town and the celebrations that followed as the Whites won a league title for the first time in over 20 years, and also heads to LA to look at the job that Steve Cherundolo is doing as manager of a resurgent LAFC. There's also a Melon of the Week from the lower tiers of English football, and the Gibberish Rankings looks at some of the most ridiculous trophies that are handed out across the world. It's Ranks! It's a new week. But the table remains the same in MLS. Thanks to a 2-0 victory at the Banc on Sunday night, LAFC sits atop the Western Conference with 22 points. Max and Vince take us through the win against Minnesota United. LAFC added to its league-leading tally of goals from substitutes as Ryan Hollingshead and Jose Cifuentes found the back of the net off the bench. The guys break down Minnesota's low block and conservative approach to the match. Will we see more teams try the same when they visit LA? After that, we look ahead to the Best in the West vs Best in the East clash between LAFC and the Philadelphia Union this Saturday. Vince gives a scouting report of what to expect from the Union and Max is back on the call with Jordan Harvey on KCOP13. Then, it's time to let our guest loose. Danny Musovski sits down with the guys to talk about getting love from the fans, what it takes to be a finisher, his relationship with Chicho Arango, and more.
Sam and James are here to talk about Minnesota United's 0-2 loss at LAFC while Justyn takes the night off. LAFC won a tough one at home against MUNFC, in a game where Carlos Vela had an off night the black and gold were still victorious. A lot credit goes to the second half adjustments Steve Cherundolo did.
Join us as the Chums talk to USMNT & LAFC star Kellyn Acosta. They discuss what makes the FCD Academy different, frustration behind his MLS trades, as well as where he sees himself in a couple of years. You'll be entertained from start to finish so make sure to stay tuned in!
Week 9 of the MLS season is upon us, and a familiar face pays a visit to the Banc. Tyler Miller, no longer the starter, and his Minnesota United FC join us for Sunday services at the Cathedral of the Black and Gold. As the Loons would soon find out, good things come to those who sub in late! LAFC win an exciting affair, 2-0, behind two more goals from substitutes and staunch back line play. Looking to continue the weekend-long party that ACFC kicked off on Friday, LAFC forced several tough saves from the former Forward Madison 'Mingo, Dayne St. Clair in the first half, but the best chance of the first 45' came from Finnish forward Robin Lod. Crepeau made his only save of the half (and the match), and we head to the locker 0-0. Just past the hour mark, Dolo called on his bench to provide the heroics, as he inserted Moose and Cifu into the drama for Latif and Mahala. Ten minutes later, Ryan Hollingshead came on, and the chess match was almost complete. In the 82nd minute, Hollingshead gets on the end of a cross and a deflection for his third of the season to put LAFC up one. In the 90th, Cifu clips the Loons' wings, as Chiqui receives an unreal pass from Pancho before finding his fellow countryman to put LAFC up, up, and away, 2-0. Also on this episode, Filly has the hiccups. And heartburn. And a little indigestion. But really, you could barely tell. The boys cross off a huge bucket list item as well as another 14+ hour day at the Banc, LAFC kicks off AAPI Heritage Month, and Kevin Baxter remains silent. We're just 10 episodes away from our second century, and we couldn't have gotten this close without all the support from the millions who are a part of Defenders Nation! Thank you, and see you in just a week or so for Episode 191!
We're talking about home in this week's 'In Touch with Steve Cherundolo.' But first, LAFC returned from Cincinnati with all three points and again it was a substitute with the game-winner. Steve talks about LAFC's thought process when it comes to in-game management and what Danny Musovski brings to the team. Then, it's on to our theme. LAFC will have 5 of 7 matches at home in May (lafc.com/tickets) and Steve recently purchased a new home, so what better time to talk about home? Vince asks Steve his must-haves in a home, who's the cook in the family, what's a family game night like, and much more.

Vince is back. Max is away. But never fear, Jordan Harvey is back as well. "Mr. LAFC" as Vince likes to call him is filling in for Max this week. Vince makes up for lost time by covering not one, but two LAFC wins. The guys talk about the 5-1 win over Orange County SC in the Open Cup. LAFC found a way to shake up their slow starts with some incisive moves early against OCSC and run out as comfortable winners. Jordan and Vince break down how LAFC broke the press and finished off a variety of chances, plus we talk about everyone getting involved in the win. After that, it's off to Cincinnati. This time, we're diving deep into the slow start talk by breaking down exactly what the team and coaching staff mean by a slow start. Jordan shares what Steve's approach is to halftime talks. And the guys talk about how LAFC is finding success with game-changing substitutes thus far in 2022. Then it's back to the MVP... the Mahala + Vince Podcast. Mahala replaces Jordan to finish the show. Vince asks Mahala about the season he's having coming off a long injury and we learn about a hobby that Mahala has picked up in his spare time. All that and more on the latest edition of Inside LAFC: The Max + Vince Podcast.
