It's been 12 months since Cross-Con 2015 took Karl Castaneda, Jon Rind, Mike Sklens and Jonny Metts to Nashville to hang out with Stan Ferguson, and as has become the tradition, that means it's time to listen to the episode of Rough Draught that we recorded one calendar year ago! This episode's pretty special, not just because we tried five all new beers, but also because we sampled Angel's Envy Rye Whiskey, a rare treat that took us way over the threshold into some kind of drunk wonderland. After a surprisingly measured and thoughtful 90 minutes of beer reviews, we descend into about 30 minutes of the kind of rowdy idiots you've come to associate with the Beer Appreciation Show. Want to show your support? Head on over to iTunes and leave us a rating and a review. And if you have any questions you'd like for us to answer on the next episode of Rough Draught, you can let us know via email (crosstawk@gmail.com), Twitter (@crosstawk), or in the comments section on the site. Thanks for listening, guys, and be on the lookout for Cross-Con 2016's episode of Box Office Poison to go up early next week!
Welcome back to A Force to Remember! For those of you just joining us, this show stars my girlfriend Shannon and myself, Karl Castaneda, as she watches all six Star Wars films for the first time. To mix it up, we also watch one of Shannon's favorite childhood/teenage films, as well. This time, we wrap up the prequels with Revenge of the Sith and Shannon's pick, the religious satire Saved! Have a question you want Shannon and I to read on the final episode? Let us know by writing into crosstawk@gmail.com, Twitter (@crosstawk) or in the comments section on the site. Thanks for listening, everyone! Come back next Tuesday for more of A Force to Remember!
Hello and welcome back to A Force to Remember! In case you're just joining us, this weekly Crosstawk miniseries stars me, Karl Castaneda, along with my girlfriend Shannon as she watches all six Star Wars films for the first time, pairing each with a childhood favorite of her own, all leading up to me seeing her favorite film of all time, An Affair to Remember. This time, we discuss Episode II: Attack of the Clones, along with 10 Things I Hate About You. Will the introduction of Hayden Christensen match the glory of Heath Ledger going after Julia Stiles? You'll have to listen in to find out! Have a question, comment or concern for An Affair to Remember? Let us know via email (crosstawk@gmail.com), Twitter (@crosstawk) or in the comments section on the website. Thanks for listening, and we'll see you next Tuesday!
Hello and welcome to the very first episode of A Force to Remember! Each week for the next six weeks, your venerable host, I, Karl Castaneda, will discuss each of the six Star Wars films with my girlfriend, Shannon. You see, Shannon's never seen any of the Star Wars films, and has agreed to indulge me in this on one condition: I also have to see one of her favorite films from her childhood/teenage years, all culminating in me seeing her favorite film of all time - An Affair to Remember. So this week we're covering Episode I: The Phantom Menace (yup, we're going in THAT order) and Shannon's pick - Romy and Michele's High School Reunion. How will a childlike Anakin compare to Lisa Kudrow accepting an award on-stage with only a bra on? You'll have to listen in to find out! Want some of your listener mail to be read on-air for Episode 6? Send it over via email (crosstawk@gmail.com), Twitter (@crosstawk) or in the comments section on the website. Thanks for listening, and we'll see you next week!
Welcome to episode 181 of Nintendo World Report's Connectivity podcast. This week we try out a slightly different format than usual, both topics are presented as a continuous recording instead of two distinct segments. First up we have Nick, Becky and special guest Karl Castaneda warming up with a brief chat about what they have been up to. Then the trio dive into a discussion about what they would like to possibly see from the Zelda series in the future. Zach Miller also joins them partway through. After a break, the gang pull out the mailbag and answer some questions relating to online voice chat, video game guide usage and the possibility of Nintendo supporting games more as a platform over a longer period of time through DLC. We need your Listener Mail! Please send in some hard-hitting questions for the Connectivity gang to ponder over. connectivity@nintendoworldreport.com
We said it would never happen... but finally DMP is addressing The Beatles. This is actually a very special episode, not only for the long-awaited topic, but also for being our first ever, four-person live show on Discover Music Project. Recording it as a gang of four (Karl Castaneda, Stan Ferguson, Mike Sklens, and host Jonny Metts) in Chicago for Cross-Con 2014 gave us both an excellent excuse and an intriguing format to approach The Beatles. Rather than try to summarize their extraordinairy career or pull selections from each album, the roundtable setting allowed us to bring four different sets of personal picks. These aren't necessarily the best or most popular Beatles songs, but rather eclectic highlights that each carry special meaning to one (or all) of us. Hopefully, you'll find a new favorite or at least give further consideration to a few overlooked, maybe even overplayed songs. And of course, it ends the only way imaginable, with a little help from my friends. Special thanks to everyone who has requested this episode over the years -- please enjoy! Karl's Set: 1. Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except for Me and My Monkey (The White Album) 2. Tomorrow Never Knows (Revolver) 3. Helter Skelter (The White Album) Stan's Set: 4. Something (Abbey Road) 5. She's Leaving Home (Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band) 6. While My Guitar Gently Weeps (Love) Mike's Set: 7. Paperback Writer (Past Masters) 8. And Your Bird Can Sing (Revolver) 9. I've Got a Feeling (Let It Be) Jonny's Set: 10. Twist and Shout (Please Please Me) 11. Rocky Raccoon (The White Album) 12. I'm Only Sleeping (Revolver) Encore: Joe Cocker -- With a Little Help From My Friends
FEATURING: For RFN's 300th episode, we discuss the Wii like we never have before, covering the Wii from its debut as Revolution at E3 2005, right up to the present day!And we've brought friends as well: Billy Berghammer, Craig Harris, Michael "TYP" Cole, Karl Castaneda, co-founder Mike Sklens and, of course, our escaped editing slave, Greg Leahy!
What's this? A new episode of Box Office Poison? No, it can't be... IT IS! So I'm sure the first question on your mind is, "What the fuck happened?" Well, I (and when I say "I," I mean me, Karl Castaneda) went through the final stages of development and the launch of my very first video game. And as a result, basically everything in my life that wasn't that was pushed to the side, including Crosstawk. So I'm the bad guy. Direct your assorted vegetables in my direction, if you would, please. But the rest of the dudes on this show are fucking rockstars. So don't blame them. In any case, this is the last episode I recorded before my "hiatus," but there are two other episodes in the can, and they'll be seeing a release over the next week. Our recording schedule went on, and even though I won't be on Episodes 29 or 30, the boys held up and delivered the same amazing content you're used to. So let's get to this actual episode. We go over some recent releases (including John Carter) in the first segment, and then we move on to our Movie of the Month: Hannah and Her Sisters. Next month (or, rather, next week) will be Get Carter. See you soon for more BOP!
Our gracious host Karl Castaneda returns to DMP to showcase one of his all-time favorite bands, The Velvet Underground. This is easily one of the most influential rock bands of all time, thanks to Lou Reed's odd songwriting choices and the band's eclectic brand of psychadelia. You can hear elements of Velvet Underground music in artists as diverse as The Ramones, Neil Young, Phish, and Wilco. (Hey, we've also done episodes on all those guys!) Karl is a big fan, and you might be too after hearing these songs: 1. I'm Waiting for the Man (The Velvet Underground & Nico) 2. Venus in Furs (The Velvet Underground & Nico) 3. Heroin (The Velvet Underground & Nico) 4. Lady Godiva's Operation (White Light / White Heat) 5. Here She Comes Now (White Light / White Heat) 6. Pale Blue Eyes (The Velvet Underground) 7. After Hours (The Velvet Underground) 8. Rock & Roll [Alternate Mix] (Fully Loaded) 9. Sweet Jane (Loaded) 10. Oh! Sweet Nuthin' (Loaded) Encore: Walk on the Wild Side - Lou Reed (Transformer) Be sure to let us know what you think via email (crosstawk@gmail.com) or Twitter (@crosstawk and @jonnymetts).
On this episode of DMP, Jonny welcomes Amanda Albert (Hardcore Nerdography, Rough Draught) to the show, and she's brought a fantastically weird and delightful band in Ween. The cult-status band delivers short, psychadelic pop songs that cross a huge spectrum of musical styles. Open your mind, relax, and float downstream with us as we explore the music of Ween! 1. Take me Away (Chocolate and Cheese) 2. Voodoo Lady (Chocolate and Cheese) 3. Freedom of 76 (Chocolate and Cheese) 4. Help Me Scrape the Mucus Off My Brain (12 Golden Country Greats) 5. You Were the Fool (12 Golden Country Greats) 6. The Mollusk (The Mollusk) 7. Buckingham Green (The Mollusk) 8. Ocean Man (The Mollusk) 9. Even if You Don't (White Pepper) 10. Exactly Where I'm At (White Pepper) 11. Falling Out (White Pepper) 12. Flutes of Chi (White Pepper) 13. Tried and True (Quebec) 14. Transdermal Celebration (Quebec) 15. Your Party (La Cucaracha) Encore: Spoon - I Turn My Camera On (Gimme Fiction) This episode also features our first on-air listener email discussion. Let us know what you think of the segment and send your own email to crosstawk@gmail.com. You can also follow Jonny (@jonnymetts) and Amanda (@supinternets) on Twitter -- and our benefactor, Karl Castaneda, runs the @crosstawk account.

DMP returns with yet another batch of music for you to enjoy. This episode happens to guest star none other than me, Karl Castaneda. It turns out you folks like to suggest stuff for the show, so when a very special listener named Kevin insisted that Jonny devote some time to Chicago-based "dad rock" band Wilco, I gladly stepped in to assist him, seeing as how I've been a fan of theirs for years. So a very big thank you to Kevin! We had to pluck out a few choices to meet our timetable, but his fantastic set list provided the following: 1. Shouldn't Be Ashamed (A.M) 2. Misunderstood (Being There) 3. Sunken Treasure (Being There) 4. I Am Trying to Break Your Heart (Yankee Hotel Foxtrot) 5. War on War (Yankee Hotel Foxtrot) 6. At Least That's What You Said (A Ghost is Born) 7. Thelogians (A Ghost is Born) 8. You Are My Face (Sky Blue Sky) 9. Impossible Germany (Sky Blue Sky) 10. You Never Know (Wilco) 11. I'll Fight (Wilco) Encore: Woody Guthrie - "Jesus Christ" If you've got a band you'd like Jonny to discuss, you can send that request to us via email (crosstawk@gmail.com), Twitter (@crosstawk) or in the comment section on the site. Thanks for listening, guys! We'll see you on Friday for a new Box Office Poison.
Back in October of 2008, I started a podcast with my three roommates, Phillip Snyder, Jonathan Rind and Michael Casper. We were also fortunate enough to have tons of great guest hosts, the most prolific being Jesse Laier. It was a bit rough to start, and we never really lost that roughness, but it was an experience that I'll treasure for the rest of my life. Unfortunately, it had to come to an end when I moved away from Tallahassee in August of 2009, and though we've all kept in touch, hung out and even still get together for various podcasts right here on Crosstawk, we've never all reunited for the show that started it all: TAWK-112. Thankfully, I made my way up to Tallahassee earlier this month to spend some time with the guys, record a couple Rough Draughts and generally have a great weekend. While I was there, though, we knew we had to record a one-off episode of TAWK while we had the chance, and so we did. We're going to go into detail on the show, but I can't even put into words how much I loved making that show, which is why I'm so proud of what we're presenting to you today. This podcasts is TAWK-112, through and through, with the best we had to offer as well as the gross-out stories that probably turned a few people off. We never had a theme for the show because we didn't need one - TAWK was about us and that was always more than enough. At nearly two whole hours, this is the longest episode of TAWK-112 ever made, and for my money, it's probably the best. Never the end, Karl Castaneda

This week you're in for a brand new show from Crosstawk: Karl Teaches Kontinuity. In it, I, Karl Castaneda, will go in-depth and explain all of the convoluted weirdness that is comic book continuity. For this first episode, we'll be getting into the various Ages of the comic book industry, starting with the Golden Age, and explaining the begining of the Silver Age. This is the first of a two-parter, so be sure to come back next time to hear the rest of the story. Also, don't forget to write in about any of Crosstawk's shows at crosstawk@gmail.com and head on over to iTunes to rate and review us. We've had a few reviews show up recently, and the only way to get the word out is to write more. Next week Box Office Poison returns, so see you then!
With no new episodes to release this week, now's as good a time as ever to start re-releasing the best episodes of the podcast that inspired Crosstawk, TAWK-112. In it, Karl Castaneda hosts a panel consisting of his roommates (and regular co-hosts) Jon Rind, Michael Casper and Phillip Snyder, in addition to frequent guest stars like Tyler Craig and Jesse Laier. In Episode 11, the gang discusses the possibility of real-life mutants, a bunch of comics talk, and the Top 5 Things From Our Childhood That Are Still Awesome (aka '90s fuckyeah).
