AustinMates is a new podcast on the Crosstawk network. We are Gabriel Dover, Jessica Martin, and Jonathan Metts. Three friends who grew up together in a small town and now live only miles apart in Austin, TX. Since we were children we have bonded over video games, comic books and the like. We've always liked to share our opinions with each other, and now we want to share them with anyone who will sit still long enough to listen. So what are we going to talk about? Mostly video games most likely. That's kind of our jam. Also comic books, movies, maybe music. But mostly games. We hope to get an episode out every couple of weeks, or at least that's what we're thinking right now. Austen brings us to the break with a wrap-up of Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation, proof that one can play Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 without having to deal with the average internet user, and unleashes holy hell (and man beams) in El Shaddai: Ascension Of The Metatron. After the break, a wild Halbred appears as the crew ropes in Nintendo World Report features editor Zach Miller for a heavy round of Whatcha Been Watchin' that travels from the sewers of New York in TMNT 2012 to the local arcade for Wreck-It Ralph and wraps in London with Sherlock Holmes In The 22nd Century, Goldeneye, QI, and Where On Earth is Carmen Sandiego? Also included: The finals of the "Weirdest Anime Ever" contest, between FLCL and Hellsing Ultimate. Since this show was taped on November 18th, of course the feature discussion is Wii U: Day 1. It finally happened. After months of successfully putting it off, we were all forced to talk about...books. We talk about books for over two hours. Zach, Gina, Nelson, Marcus, and Courtney all give their Top Five books in this epic bookcast. Take notes--you may want to read a few of these. More than anything else, we learn that books are Marcus' absolute favorite storytelling medium, at towards the end, he goes on a Terry Pratchett tear that lasts for what seems like half the episode. But then Zach talks about a dinosaur book for way too long, so it all evens out. Not much else to say: this episode is strangely focused. What are your Top Five books?
