In this week's episode Mark and Pete from their business and religious perspectives cover six of the most bizarre and fascinating stories making headlines. First up, we dive into the ongoing Birmingham bin dispute, where workers' strikes are causing rubbish to pile up across the city, leaving residents frustrated. Then, we discuss the controversy surrounding Sam Mendes' upcoming Beatles biopics, including casting choices that have raised eyebrows due to a lack of authenticity. Next, we take a close look at President Trump's new tariffs, exploring their impact on global trade, U.S. manufacturing, and consumer prices. Moving on, we tackle a peculiar case where a judge in London called buskers “psychological torture,” sparking a debate about public space and noise pollution. In a more somber moment, we pay tribute to Betty Webb, the WWII codebreaker who recently passed away at 101, remembering her contribution to the war effort. Finally, we end on a royal note: King Charles is asked to play a carrot flute at an environmental event, raising questions about royal symbolism and the weirdness of modern celebrity culture. Today we continue our visit at the home of Dawn Leith Dougherty. Beyond creating a store for all energy clearing accoutrement, Dawn and her partner Ed also sell the most beautiful handmade wooden flutes. With this affinity toward music, sound, and vibration they have accumulated the most diverse collection of sound instruments imaginable. Drums, death whistles, signing bowls, bells…  You name it, I'm sure they have at least one. To round out our day visit with Dawn, we each took turns donning the Isophone for a personal sound bath from Dawn.  The Isophone is essentially headphones where each earpiece has been isolated to its own tube and funnel that Dawn can play sound directly into.  This helps isolate which side of the brain is most engaged with the sound at any given time. This was a totally unique experience for us and in this episode we share exactly what happened and have Dawn play several of her eclectic instruments for you. This episode is full of vibration and resonance and we hope it brings you all the feels. Drums, rattles, and other percussion instruments are well-known sources of musical accompaniment connected to Native American music. Flutes were one of the first melodic instruments developed by North American Indigenous peoples. In addition, there are a variety of other traditional instruments, including fiddles and harps, that certain tribes perfected over generations. We'll hear about some of the ways Native Americans have been making music over the years, and some of the ways they're being incorporated in contemporary compositions. GUESTS Andrew Weaver (Yup'ik), program coordinator for the Alaska Native Heritage Center Bennett Wakayuta (Hualapai and Hopi), artist William Rodriguez (Taino), owner of Archaic Roots and Indigenous instruments specialist Shawn Yacavone, owner of Ukulele Friend and co-chair of the Hawaiian Music Archives at Hawaii State Archives
