Lindsay Lohan deserved better, frankly.     Falling For Christmas Year: 2022 Screenplay by: Jeff Bonnett and Ron Oliver Based on a story by: Jeff Bonnett Directed by: Janeen Damian Stars: Lindsay Lohan, Chord Overstreet, George Young       Show notes:   Compare and despair! This bland remake of 1987's Overboard is not good in lots of different ways. But we can fix it.   For the absence of doubt, the names of the main characters in this film are: Sierra Belmont, Jake Russell and Tad Fairchild.   In this episode we make much mention the 1987 film Overboard starring Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0093693/). We also mention the films Titanic (1997) (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120338/) and 10 Things I Hate About You (1999) (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0147800/).   If you would like to suggest films for future episodes, you can tweet Lisa: @LisaStowaway.   We record these episodes over the internet. Sometimes the audio is not perfect. We apologise for that.   Music in this episode is by Martin Zaltz Austwick (martinzaltzaustwick.com). Artwork is by Lisa Findley.   Thank you for listening!

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are hitting dudes with long, pointy sticks while on horseback so we can win the hearts of our fair maidens. We watched the 2001 film from Brian Helgeland, A Knight's Tale.I'm going to take a second to think about another movie that makes such good use of classic rock music in a way that doesn't feel forced or fall flat…I've come to a quick conclusion: There isn't another movie like this one. That's a curious thing because the early 2000s were flush with films that featured quirky storylines, burgeoning superstars, and low-stakes romance. But did any of them have the unique combination of intense rivalry between nobility and peasants, rousing jousting scenes, and Paul Bettany's butt? No, I don't think any of them do.Part of what makes A Knight's Tale wonderful is its daring to push on the bounds of its early ‘00s filmmaking box. It could have easily been any other forgettable adventure-romance thing, but it persists because of its special charms.(Recorded on July 07, 2022)Links to Stuff We Mentioned:A Knight's Tale (2001) — The Movie Database (TMDB)Brian Helgeland — The Movie Database (TMDB)Heath Ledger — The Movie Database (TMDB)Rufus Sewell — The Movie Database (TMDB)Shannyn Sossamon — The Movie Database (TMDB)Paul Bettany — The Movie Database (TMDB)Laura Fraser — The Movie Database (TMDB)Mark Addy — The Movie Database (TMDB)Alan Tudyk — The Movie Database (TMDB)Bérénice Bejo — The Movie Database (TMDB)Queen (band) - WikipediaLeonardo DiCaprio — The Movie Database (TMDB)The Great Gatsby (2013) — The Movie Database (TMDB)Baz Luhrmann — The Movie Database (TMDB)Vision (Marvel Comics) - WikipediaFirefly (TV Series 2002–2003) — The Movie Database (TMDB)10 Things I Hate About You (1999) — The Movie Database (TMDB)Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001) — The Movie Database (TMDB)The Dark Knight (2008) — The Movie Database (TMDB)David Bowie - WikipediaFollow Us:Give us a rating and review on Apple Podcasts! Our Buzzsprout site! Our Instagram profile! Our Twitter profile!

Is it a good idea to DM your recently dumped Instagram model mistress to ask if it's OK if you and your supermodel pregnant wife name your baby after her? No, and while you didn't need to be told that, Adam Levine of aggressively mediocre elevator band Maroon 5 fame apparently did. Other things you probably don't need to be told: don't get leg-lengthening surgery (ladies love a short king!), don't get your sex education from 2 Girls 1 Cup, and don't sleep on Wisconsin, the most premium vacation destination in our great nation. Feat. Huddy of “All the Things I Hate About You” fame, who finally reveals to the olds what a “homie hopper” is (Adam Levine could relate!) and shares that he dropped the Lil from his name to share the rawest, most real version of himself. Same, king! Also featuring an extremely impassioned synopsis of the Diane Keaton body swap comedy “Mack and Rita,” a film so bad that it gave Brittany COVID.Links referenced in this episode: https://www.tiktok.com/@leamichele/video/7144759304476773678?is_copy_url=1&is_from_webapp=v1&lang=en https://www.gq.com/story/leg-lengtheninghttps://jezebel.com/stories-about-my-brother-1835651181 https://www.tiktok.com/@sumnerstroh/video/7145094095915240750?_r=1&_t=8Voo2USJcF9&is_from_webapp=v1&item_id=7145094095915240750 > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRTEAmq5c2A https://www.inlander.com/spokane/no-idaho-schools-are-not-teaching-porn-literacy/Content?oid=24569006 https://www.tiktok.com/@georgejapan02/video/7142919408476802305?is_copy_url=1&is_from_webapp=v1&refer=embed&referer_url= https%3A%2F%2Fcdn.embedly.com%2F&referer_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.usatodaynetworkservice.com%2F&referer_video_id=7142919408476802305  Learn more about your ad choices. 10 Things I Hate About You has become a generational favorite, joining the ranks of The Breakfast Club and Fast Times at Ridgemont High among the teen movie pantheon. Filmed on a $13 million budget, it made $38 million at the domestic box office, making it the 53rd top grossing movie of the year (one ahead of Fight Club). It would go on to break $60 million worldwide. But while it boasted a very impressive cast of very good actors, it had virtually no star power, and the central draw was a virtually unknown young actor named Heath Ledger. Neither Joseph Gordon-Levitt nor Julia Stiles were yet household names. And it was released against another big 1999 movie called The Matrix, and right in the crowded midst of the revival of the teen movie that had begun a year earlier with the release of Can't Hardly Wait, and had already in 1999, by the time of 10 Things I Hate About You's release, seen the releases of She's All That, Varsity Blues, Jawbreaker, and Cruel Intentions (to say nothing of the juggernaut that was American Pie, released several months later).  So why did 10 Things work so well, and find such a devout audience, that it makes it so beloved today? John and Joey invited one such devotee, author Kelly J. Baker, to tell them. Find Dr. Baker on Twitter @kelly_j_baker

This week, as always, is a good one. Katie joins the show to talk about her favorite movie, '10 Things I Hate About You.' We discuss how she discovered the movie in middle school and immediately identified with the lead character, Kat.  Then we try to figure out if current high school themes moved away from stereotypes. We then somehow end up talking about 'Skins,' UK version. To relax, Katie watches 'Greek,' the 2007 teen drama about a college freshman. But she thinks more people should be watching Hulu's 'The Great' the satire about Catherine the Great. Follow us on Instagram and on Twitter.

Shakespeare gets a modern makeover complete with low-slung cargo shorts and asymmetrically-cut tops in this teen take on Twelfth Night, 2006's She's the Man. In a category brimming with Clueless, 10 Things I Hate About You, and Easy A, is there room for yet another similarly updated YA comedy? The answer, of course, is not really, especially if ends up being as dull and dated as this one. Leigh, Brendan, and Chris cover the weird gender role ideas, Amanda Bynes's straight-out-of-The-Amanda-Show performance, and the general pitfalls of trying to do a modern take on classic lit. We also conclude our Sweet and Sour Summer of Teen Angst with one final lemony cocktail, and a promise that we'll probably move back to more adult fare next time. Well, comparatively speaking. This week's episode covers one of Carie's guiltiest pleasure movies, 10 Things I Hate About You, based on one of William Shakespeare's objectively worst plays, The Taming of the Shrew. Ross flies off the handle on the side of Kat regarding her well-read, mouthy nature. Carie has Hanna Barbara eyes for a young Heath Ledger, and the siblings tsk tsk tsk this particular work of Shakespeare.  SUPPORT US ON PATREON!  Copyright 2022 Sorry Mom Productions

It stands to reason — the longer you stay in the game of writing and performing music, the older your audience gets. But Kay Hanley's audience has only gotten younger. She went from pumping out the catchiest Cheap Trick influenced alterna-pop for the alterna-kids of the ‘90s in her band Letters To Cleo — to entertaining the kids of THOSE kids writing songs for shows such as “Doc McStuffins” and “DC Superhero Girls”. Along the way, she's managed to maintain a stellar solo career — and the debut entry in that career (“Cherry Marmalade”) just happens to turn 20 this year. So she's doing what we all do: Putting that shit out on vinyl and hitting the road. We've known Kay for a long time and there's nobody cooler. On this episode we forget to talk about Josie And The Pussycats, Hannah Montana, and Adam Scott — but we REMEMBER to talk about “10 Things I Hate About You”, Heath Ledger, Mike Denneen, her work with the Songwriters of North America (a foundation she co-founded, by the way), baseball, covering each other's songs, football, “Jesus Christ Superstar”, growing up across the street from the Wahlbergs, “Melrose Place”, Barry Manilow, and REAL football! We also put Kay's Rain Man-like ability for remembering lyrics to the Elvis Costello test.

"All I want to do is graduate from high school, go to Europe, marry Christian Slater, and die." Buffy Summers has a plan. It includes the school dance and cheer practice and definitely like for sure totally does NOT include vampires, Luke Perry, and a guy named Merrick. Welcome to 1992's Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Leggings have shorts over them, a yellow leather jacket is the rage, and the vampires are actually hilarious (looking at you Paul). The cast is immaculate (really Google it) and the stories of what was going behind the scenes make this classic both entertaining and thought provoking as well as FUN. This movie is fun. The vampires float. And have giant ears. Fun. "Does the word DUH! mean anything to you?"- Buffy Summers. Have y'all ever seen that movie, "10 Things I Hate About You"? I know, it's from a long time ago, but I was rewatching that recently and it got me thinking about things that I don't like about myself, or put a better way, things I have identified that I want to work on about myself. I think that to change and grow, to evolve as a person, the very first step is identifying where you're at right now, and what needs to change. And don't worry, none of this is going to be body image based - we have only love and acceptance for the ways our beautiful bodies that serve us look - and none of this comes from a place of any shame. Yeah, this is a list of things that I don't love about my character, or my emotional reflexes, but I also know that the key to meaningful change is self-love and acceptance. So, I have 6 things that I'm not crazy about, about me, that I want to work to change to improve on how I show up in the world as a friend, as a momma, as a partner, as a content creator for other people, but also how I show up for myself in creating the life I want to have. -------- Do you get my weekly Sunday email?
