In this episode we're diving deep into the age old question "HOW DO I GET MY DOG TO HAVE CONSISTANT CONTACT PERFORMANCE IN BOTH TRAINING & TRIALS?". It's VERY common for dogs to have 2 set's of "criteria". One that is often wonderful & reliable in training and then another in trials where sometimes behaviour goes off the rails. Why does this happen? What can we do get GREAT contact performance in competitions? How do you deal with dogs who push the limits in a trial setting? We hope you enjoy this episode! The dog sport of Agility is amazing……you know what else is amazing? How athletic, nimble and daring our dogs are! This is something that we all need to think about & appreciate. What we ask of our dogs in Agility and how willing they are to go above & beyond is truly remarkable. Sadly though, injures are happening more frequently in the sport. Injuries can be caused by many things and can happen in all levels & organizations of Agility. Kayl & Jamie both train & compete at the International level. They've noticed that over the years, courses have become more challenging, the dogs are getting faster, handlers are training more intensely and without awareness of injury, this all raises the possibility of our dogs having a shortened career. In this episode, Kayl & Jamie talk about the personal experience they've had with their own dogs being injured, signs to look for to know your dog could have an issue, and prevention ideas that will be great to hear, regardless of your experience with the sport. Our dogs safety comes first, always! We hope you enjoy this podcast and take even 1 thing away from it that could help your own dog or another 4 legged family member that you love! Using toy rewards in dog training can be a really great way to build drive and motivation for your dog. But it needs to be used correctly. This episode aired on May 9, 2019 In this episode of the Train Station, we're going to talk about some puppy training basics. We will talk about using the T.R.A.I.N rule so that your puppy will be successful! When people come to us asking for help with a skill they're struggling with, we can often find a step that has been left out in their training plan. As humans, it can be hard for us to understand how dogs think simply because it is different than how we think, and it can be hard to understand why you might have a perfect recall in your yard, only to watch your dog ignore you at the park. Today, we're going to talk about the steps necessary to train and perfect a skill from start to finish using our favourite acronym - "T.R.A.I.N." Do you feel like your puppy training is missing something? You may have gone through most of the steps, but there's a good chance that you have skipped one important element of their puppy training! By following this rule you can be sure that you're giving your puppy the right information at just the right time!
