It is Thursday, May 21st. And believe it or not, we are heading into Memorial Day weekend. What does a holiday weekend look like during coronavirus? Well, buckle up, buttercups, because we are about to find out. Welcome to Teal Talk. I'm Jenny Guy, your host and the director of marketing for Mediavine. And I asked this right as we were getting started, but for those that are trickling in and joining us now, hello. Post in the comments and tell us what you're doing for this holiday weekend during the pandemic. How is it different from what you'd usually be doing for the official kickoff this summer? If it's changed at all, let us know in the comments. And then in news of other hard to believe milestones, today's episode of Teal Talk is the 17th in our second season, as well as our season 2 finale. What? That's crazy. We have had almost 80 lives since we started producing these a little over two years ago, on every topic under the sun that's relevant to content creators. I get to talk with super smart experts about SEO and beanie babies and learn, and it's honestly, it's the best job. And we wouldn't be here without the support of my team, and you guys are awesome audience. So thank you from the bottom of my black little heart for watching. I appreciate it. And enough with the feelings now because my boss hates sappy stuff. So let's get onto the topic du jour. What do you know about virtual assistants? Have you been one? Are you trying to hire one? What is your experience in this area? My guest here today is here to help us with everything VA. She knows all the things, and it's past time to meet her. Kayla Sloan is a business coach for virtual assistants and a business systems and outsourcing expert. Kayla has been working with successful entrepreneurs since 2014. Her one-on-one consulting program Six Figure Systems helps online business owners scale with systems and building a virtual team. She's also the founder of 10K VA, her flagship program where she teaches virtual assistants how to earn up to $10,000 per month working online. Welcome. Thank you for joining us, Kayla. KAYLA SLOAN: Thank you so much for having me. I'm really excited to be here. JENNY GUY: We're excited, too, to have you. We chose this topic because we were looking for things that we hadn't covered and that might be interesting to people during this very strange time that we're in. So starting out, everyone in the comments, post in the comments. Tell us about your experience as a VA or hiring a VA or anything VA. And if you've got questions for Kayla, shoot us a comment, and we will make sure to get you taken care of immediately, or as quickly as we can. So as I said in the intro, VAs are kind of your thing. So let's just say, why do you love them so much? How did you get into the VA life? Tell us a little bit about your experience. KAYLA SLOAN: Yeah, so my experience was that I kind of got into the VA thing, so to speak, a little bit on accident, actually. I started blogging back in, I think it was 2013,

Want to earn 5-figures per month as a virtual assistant? No, this isn't a scam. This is the true story of how Kayla Sloan, a former personal finance blogger, started a side hustle as a virtual assistant that led her to earn $10,000/month. Now, she trains others how to become virtual assistants so they can earn extra money on top of their day jobs to reach their financial goals sooner. Long description: As a sort of companion episode to last week’s interview with Amanda Abella (sales coach & CEO of Make Money Your Honey), in which we talked in-depth about how to get over feeling guilty about earning money, this week I’m chatting with Kayla Sloan, a virtual assistant coach. And guess what, the topic of earning guilt pops up yet again. To be fair, I’m the one who brings it up. I’m pretty sure I recorded these episodes close together and it was something I was thinking about a lot. In any case, I’m excited to share this episode with you because I really want to emphasize the message that earning money is good, not bad. Especially as women, who are still paid less for the same work as men, we need to stop the shame game and empower ourselves to reach our full financial potential! Just take Kayla’s story for instance. She finished university, got a job, then realized she was always flirting with a $0 balance in her account. She had $8,000 in student debt and $10,000 in credit card debt, not to mention a $110,000 mortgage. She wanted to live a better life, but she didn’t have a business background or even felt like she deserved to earn more. I think a lot of us who were raised in low to middle income families feel like this. We are taught to be smart, go to school, get a job at a company, and accept whatever salary we get (we should be so lucky we even have a job when so many people don’t!). The thing is, we’re limited when we work for someone else. That’s why Kayla started blogging (she ran a blog called Shoeaholic No More), then started doing some freelance writing on the side to earn some extra money. She then started getting offers for virtual assistant work, and realized she had a talent for creating systems and project management. After a year of basically juggling two full-time jobs, she was at a crossroads. She had to give either her day job or her virtual assistant side hustle up, or risk burning out completely. Looking at the numbers, she was earning just as much as a virtual assistant as she was at her full-time job. Believing that virtual assistant work was her calling, she took a big risk (since she was still in debt) and left her day job in 2015. Since then, she’s actually stopped most of her virtual assistant work and runs her own business as a virtual assistant coach and instructor with her 10K VA online course. Now, she dedicates her days to training others how to become virtual assistants so they can earn extra money at home in their free time. Kayla Sloan has been my virtual assistant since the very beginning of Money Peach. There is so much that goes into creating blog content, putting together a weekly podcast, helping students inside the Awesome Money Course, and making sure it all goes smoothly. Without Kayla, there’s no possible way I could get all of this done and still work as a full-time firefighter. Recently I have had a few people ask me how they could generate extra income every month to pay off debt faster, to cover their mortgage, to buy groceries, or to simply just have a little fun with money! That’s where Kayla comes in. You see, Kayla didn’t go to college to become a virtual assistant and she doesn’t have a background in information technology. Instead she simply helps people with whatever they need online...and now just a few years later she’s making over $10,000 every single month by doing so! During our interview, I ask Kayla: • How she get started as a virtual assistant
• How she first began reaching out to potential clients
• What her rates were in the beginning versus now
• How long it took her to quit her full-time day-job to work as a V.A.
• What tools and resources she recommends to get started
