Prioritizing providing authentic value to your readers, updating old content, and choosing the right marketing channels for your content with Elena Davis from Cucina by Elena. ----- Welcome to episode 509 of The Food Blogger Pro Podcast! This week on the podcast, Bjork interviews Elena Davis from Cucina by Elena. Creating Reader-First Content and Growing to 800,000 Monthly Page Views with Elena Davis We are so excited to welcome back Elena Davis to the podcast this week. When we first chatted with Elena in 2022, she had just hit 100,000 page views and qualified for Mediavine. Three years later, Elena's site, Cucina by Elena, gets over 800,000 monthly page views! But her journey to get there has not been without it's challenges. In this interview, Elena catches us up on the last few years of her business — including a major traffic decline in 2023 (and how she recovered from it) and how her mindset around her business, and the value she provides to her community, has changed. Three episode takeaways: The importance of updating content — After hitting a traffic plateau in September 2023, Elena realized that some of her older content wasn't serving her audience (or Google!) anymore. Instead of leaving it stagnant, she began steadily auditing her old blog posts. Elena speaks to the importance of continually evaluating the value of your content and knowing when to take action to improve your site. Her approach was key to her traffic growth and helped her bounce back better than before. How to choose the right marketing channels for your food blog — When it comes to marketing, knowing which channels work for your brand is everything. Elena relies on email marketing, Pinterest, and Instagram (especially Reels) to drive traffic, engage her audience, and build brand loyalty. Prioritizing providing value to your readers — Elena has a really wonderful perspective on creating content that serves your readers above all else. She shares more about how she guides readers through her blog, how she helps them achieve their goals, and how that mindset has changed her business. In episode 644, newer bloggers Kristina Cadelina, Rose Sioson and Mandy Martinez teach us how to start a successful blog in 2025. This is part 1 of the New Blogger conversations. Kristina is a food blogger who helps her readers reconnect with their wellness by offering nourishing and versatile Mediterranean inspired recipes. She is also a food photographer and helps brands and food bloggers grow their business by offering professional photography and video services.  Rose is an experienced IT professional with over two decades in the field. Nearly a year ago, she launched Deliciously Rushed, a blog that blends her love for food with her need for a creative outlet, all while balancing a full-time job and family. Aware of her limited time, Rose strategically invested in courses to streamline her growth and minimize costly mistakes. Her primary goal for 2024 is to qualify for the Mediavine ad network, and she is currently on the verge of reaching the 50K session threshold needed to achieve it. Mandy is the photographer and recipe developer behind Semi Homemade Kitchen. Her passion lies in simplifying the art of cooking without sacrificing flavor. She believes that anyone, regardless of their cooking expertise, can whip up mouthwatering dishes. Using shortcuts like cake mixes, cookie mixes, pudding mix, premade pie crusts, biscuit dough, canned soups, pasta sauces, and more to make the cooking process accessible and enjoyable for everyone. In this episode, you'll learn about the importance of niche and experimenting with different strategies, as well as how to pick seasonal content to boost your visibility. Key points discussed include: - Consistency is key: Maintaining consistent activity and content creation across platforms like Facebook, Pinterest, and Google is crucial for driving traffic and growth. - Experiment with different strategies: Try various tactics like video pins, animated pins, and keyword research tools to see what works best for your unique blog and audience. - Invest in yourself: Joining mastermind groups, taking courses, and outsourcing tasks can provide valuable insights and free up time to focus on core activities. - Leverage niche communities: Actively participating in relevant Facebook groups can be an effective way to drive immediate traffic and build relationships with your target audience. - Capitalize on seasonality: Aligning your content with popular seasonal trends, like holiday recipes or summer ice cream, can help boost your visibility and engagement. - Diversify your traffic sources: While Google traffic is valuable, don't rely solely on it - explore other platforms like Pinterest and social media to build a well-rounded traffic strategy. - Stay true to your niche: Focusing on content that aligns with your blog's core purpose and resonates with your target audience can lead to greater success. - Embrace an experimental mindset: Be willing to try new things, even if they don't work out initially, as it can lead to unexpected breakthroughs. - Leverage freelancing opportunities: Combining your blog with freelance work, such as photography or recipe development, can provide financial stability and creative fulfillment. This week, Bjork interviews Amina Al-Saigh from Hungry Paprikas, where she shares recipes from across the Middle East with an authentic Arab voice. From Side Hustle to Full-Time Food Blogger In this interview, Amina shares her journey from starting out as a food content creator on Instagram while working full-time as an engineer to today as a full-time food creator with a brand new cookbook (Souk To Table). Amina explains how she balanced her food blog with her full-time job in the early days, the importance of her niche in attracting brand partnerships, and the qualities that made her a desirable partner for brands, even when she had a small following. Bjork and Amina also chat about the strategy of incremental stacking when adding tasks and processes to your workload and how workflow changes when you take your food blog from side hustle to full-time. This is a really inspiring interview for anyone, but especially those currently balancing a food blog with a full-time job. Three episode takeaways: Growing and monetizing on Instagram versus a blog — Amina shares when and why she decided to start her website in addition to her Instagram (which now has almost 200,000 followers) and how she qualified for Mediavine within a year. She also explains what it was like to start monetizing her site with ads, and how it compared to when she first started making money from brand partenrships with her Instagram account. Incorporating systems and processes into your business — Before becoming a full-time food blogger, Amina worked as an engineer. And her background as an engineer is ever-present in the systems and processes she has incorporated into her business to make her life easier and work more efficient. Amina shares her processes and tips for organizing your workflow, from content scheduling to photography and editing to collaboration with her team. Making progress while letting go of perfection — Success looks different for every creator, but Amina believes that if you continue to show up every day, prioritize learning, trust your gut, and let go of perfection, every food blogger will be able to reach their goals. How to Find Success Blogging in 2025

Blogging Creatives On Fire

Play Episode Listen Later Jan 13, 2025 7:26

Welcome to 2025, my friend! It's a brand-new year, and there's no better time to reset, refocus, and reignite your blogging journey. Whether you're inching closer to ad monetization with platforms like Journey or Mediavine or looking to gain serious traction this year, let's set you up for success. I just returned from a transformative mastermind retreat where I learned powerful strategies that can help you elevate your blog to new heights. Today, I'm sharing the three key pillars for blog growth: Clarity, Consistency, and Collaboration. Let's dive in! https://creativesonfirepodcast.com/episode178 1. Clarity: Define Your Purpose Clarity is your foundation for success. If you've been feeling lost, wondering what to post or who you're creating for, it's time to step back and get laser-focused. Identify Your Audience Who is your ideal reader? Are they struggling with something you've already overcome? Maybe they're where you were five years ago, and you have the knowledge to help them. Define your niche and understand their pain points and dreams. Plan with Purpose Once you've nailed down your audience, start organizing your ideas. A content calendar will help you map out high-value posts that serve your readers and align with your goals. I've created a Content Planner for Creatives, designed specifically for bloggers. It's a 52-week guide to help you stay consistent, organized, and focused. Get yours at creativesonfirepodcast.com/planner. 2. Consistency: Create Momentum Consistency is where the magic happens. But let's be honest—sticking to a schedule can feel daunting, especially for us creatives. Here's how to make it manageable: Establish Systems and Workflows Streamline your processes so that creating content feels natural. With a solid workflow, you'll build momentum and stay productive without feeling overwhelmed. Make Accountability a Priority Having people in your corner to cheer you on and hold you accountable is a game-changer. This is where community comes in (more on that in a moment!). 3. Collaboration: Grow Together Blogging doesn't have to be a solo journey. In fact, collaboration can be the secret ingredient to faster growth and greater visibility. Find Your Business Buddies Surround yourself with like-minded creators who understand your goals and can help you stay consistent. Share ideas, cross-promote, and learn from each other's experiences. Join a Supportive Community I'm thrilled to introduce Fuel, a group designed to help bloggers like you uplevel your business. This isn't just another group—it's a space for high-quality collaboration, expert insights, and personalized support. Introducing Fuel: Your Roadmap to Blogging Success Fuel is more than a group—it's your launchpad for growth in 2025. Why Collaboration Works: Lessons from the Mastermind During my recent mastermind retreat, I experienced firsthand the power of collaboration. Being surrounded by driven, like-minded entrepreneurs was energizing and inspiring. It's proof that when you share your journey with others who understand your struggles and celebrate your wins, you can achieve so much more. Let's Make 2025 Your Year This year, commit to the three C's: clarity, consistency, and collaboration. Define your purpose, show up consistently, and connect with others who share your vision. Allie has been food blogging since 2020, although she took a few years off. After being laid off from her full-time job as a new mom of a 4 week old, Allie decided to put all her energy back into reviving her old, crusty food blog. She started working on her new niche: new England and Mediterranean dishes (think fresh, minimalistic ingredients made delicious) in November '23. Allie had maybe 400 sessions monthly. Today, in June 2024, she has almost 75K sessions and is on MediaVine! Allie hunkered down, worked hard, and eliminated distractions like Instagram. She is proof that SEO is NOT dead. In this episode, you'll learn about Allie's strategies for creating content clusters, optimizing SEO, and maintaining consistency to achieve rapid blog growth. Key points discussed: - Focus on content clusters: You should focus on creating content clusters around ingredients, recipes, or topics that you are passionate about and knowledgeable in. - Prioritize quality over quantity: You should focus on creating high-quality, helpful content rather than just posting frequently. - Embrace interlinking: You should interlink your related content to create a cohesive and easy-to-navigate website structure. - Consistency is key: You should strive for consistency in your content creation and promotion efforts, even during challenging personal times. - Adopt a positive mindset: You should approach your blog with the mindset that every post will rank highly, and trust the process. - Build a supportive network: You should prioritize building relationships with other bloggers and mentors who can provide guidance and support. - Pursue high-quality backlinks: You should seek out opportunities to earn high-quality backlinks from reputable sources to improve your site's authority. - Optimize your titles and metadata: You should craft compelling and informative titles and metadata to improve your content's visibility and click-through rates. - Focus on your niche: You should focus on your unique expertise and niche, rather than trying to appeal to everyone or compete with others in your space. Welcome back, everyone, to another episode of the Niche Pursuits News Podcast, where Spencer and Jared offer their interpretation of the most recent events in the SEO, content creation, and online marketing space. It's been a big week with a massive leak coming out of Google, so get ready for a jam-packed episode where Spencer and Jared break it all down. They kick things off by giving a bit of the backstory behind the leak and the scope of the leak before diving into the details of the leak.   That being said, what strategy does Spencer think could be useful for ranking going forward? And what do they think about Google's spokespeople? If you want to hear their thoughts on Twiddlers, small personal sites, baby panda demotion, and site radius, and also catch Spencer's advice to Google, check out the full episode. Moving along, Spencer talks about an experiment he's working on: a site where the traffic comes from Facebook and Reddit.  With 50k followers on his Facebook page and 11k visitors in a single day from Reddit, his site got 55k pageviews in the last month. He's currently with Ezoic but his goal is to get into Mediavine or Raptive, start earning $1k per month, and build on that. When it's Jared's turn, he talks about his Amazon Influencer side hustle and how he has had success creating videos about the products he uses when he stays at Airbnbs. Then he shares a fantastic hack for making those videos. Moving onto some weird niche sites, Spencer shares Search Craigslist, a search engine for Craigslist. He shows how it works and shares a funny story about his own personal experience with this kind of site. This site gets over 100k visitors a month, a mix of direct and Search traffic.  Are there any other sites you could create a search engine for or make other websites easier to navigate? Why does Jared call this idea brilliant? Jared then reveals his site, Tree.fm, which lets you enjoy the sounds of random forests and stunning photography. This DR50 site doesn't rank for a lot of content, obviously, but they do have a clever monetization strategy. Welcome, everyone, to another episode of the Niche Pursuits News Podcast, where Spencer and Jared offer an overview of the week in news related to SEO, AI, and Google. As is usually the case, this was a news-heavy week, especially in terms of AI.  They kicked the episode off by talking about Google's O/I event, where the company revealed everything it has been working on, much of it revolving around AI. The biggest announcement was that SGE has now been renamed AI Overviews, which will be available to users in the US immediately. What's the full impact of these AI Overviews? How often do they show up in search results? Does the change in name mean it's going to work differently? AI was definitely the theme of the presentation, but how does Google's offer measure up with that of OpenAI? Jared highlighted information about AI Overview as it relates to publishers and content creators. What interesting (and promising) data did he share?  And what happens if you don't want Google to use your information for its AI results? Why does Spencer call this a “frustrating state of affairs?” Is this really what users want? And is anyone fighting for small, independent publishers? Moving along, Spencer and Jared talk about their Shiny Object Shenanigans. Spencer talks about his experiment getting Reddit traffic.  He shares a bit of his strategy, talks about Reddit and RPMs, and his efforts to join Mediavine's Journey program. When it's Jared's turn, he talks about growing his Facebook page, his current cost per like, his cost per lead, and his plans for video ads. Moving along to the Weird Niche Site portion of the podcast, Spencer breaks all the rules (which is okay, because he also makes them) and reveals a weird YouTube channel, Tiny Cakes.  With more than 6 million subscribers, their videos are getting millions and millions of views. According to Social Blade, the site has received 960 million lifetime views, he and Jared talk about the thumbnails,  Jared shares the site Famous For A Day, which allows you to hire a paparazzi for the day. He talks about the packages available on the site, whether this is real or a prank, and how it might be used by people. He also talks about the keywords it's ranking for and potential marketing techniques it's using. And that concludes another episode of the Niche Pursuits News Podcast. We hope you're feeling more informed about recent events in Google's sphere and feel inspired by the side hustles and weird sites and channels we covered. See you next Friday! Getting removed from Mediavine, leaning into social media as a traffic driver, and rebuilding to 85,000 monthly sessions with Yasmin Henley from By the Forkful. ----- Welcome to episode 460 of The Food Blogger Pro Podcast! This week on the podcast, Bjork interviews Yasmin Henley from By the Forkful. How Yasmin Henley Recommitted to Her Blog and Grew to 85,000 Monthly Sessions Yasmin started By the Forkful (her second blog) in 2019 and quickly qualified for Mediavine. But, as often happens, life got in the way when she had her daughter and went back to work full-time. After taking a step back and being removed from Mediavine, Yasmin has worked hard to bring her site back to life. In the last year she has built the traffic on her site back up to 85,000 monthly sessions and is once again part of an ad network! In this interview she shares more about her process for growing site traffic, the role of social media in driving traffic to her site, and how she balances her full-time job, family, and blog. We loved this interview with Yasmin — she's an open book and her honesty is so refreshing and helpful for anyone building a business! In this episode, you'll learn: How she initially qualified for Mediavine after starting her blog in 2019. Why she neglected her site for 1–2 years (hint: sometimes life gets in the way) and was removed from Mediavine. How a viral TikTok video inspired her to reinvest in her blog. How she built the traffic back up on her site (to 85,000 sessions last month!). How she has grown her social media followings at the same time. How she balances her blog with her full-time job and family. Her current strategy on Facebook (which is a major traffic driver for her). Why updating older content is one of the most valuable things she does for her business. What advice she would give to her past self when she was removed from her ad network. How to Make Money Blogging in 2024 (New Trends)

The Blogger Genius Podcast with Jillian Leslie

Today I want to talk about how to look up from your own blog with fresh eyes to see the changing landscape and new trends. And then I want to share the best ways to pivot I recommend you start implementing now to grow your blog income. The Changing World of Blogging Is Blogging Dead? The first question I get asked is “Is blogging dead?” And I'm going to say no, it's not dead but the blogging world is changing. Drop in Google Traffic As you know I talk to professional bloggers all the time, in all different niches, and recently I talked to four who all lost between 70-90% of their site traffic during these March Google updates.  Now we all know that when Google pushes out updates we shouldn't change anything for about a month to see where the dust settles, but I don't think any of these bloggers have seen such big swings before. So to be honest they were all a bit shell-shocked.  Show Notes: MiloTreeCart Book a FREE 20-minute strategy call with me MiloTreeCart Affiliate Program Catch My Party Anca from The Butter Table MiloTree Pop-Up App Join My Blogger Genius Email List Become a Blogger Genius Facebook GroupAll Blogger Genius Podcast Episodes Subscribe to the Blogger Genius Podcast: iTunes YouTube Spotify Google's Influence and SEO Shifts in Search Results So the first trend I expect to see is a decrease in overall traffic from Google for publishers or bloggers who are creating valuable content using best practices. Will we all be losing 70-90% of our traffic, my gut says no. In my experience, when Google makes changes they typically don't reverse course. For example, when we launched Catch My Party, a lot of our users were Etsy sellers so we used their API and imported their products to our site, each product got a separate page. We did this for ease. We weren't monetizing it. Google wasn't seeing these pages as duplicate content so if people were searching for these products they could end up on our site. We were making really good affiliate income, the Etsy sellers were happy because of all the exposure they were getting, it was growing our traffic, and then one day it all went away. Google de-indexed those pages and that traffic and income were gone. My point is that Google changes usually move in one direction. And what is Google facing right now? Existential threats. Remember, all they care about is people coming to Google in need information and end up finding it and having a good experience. Recently though, the overall feel is the search experience has been deteriorating so Google has been making changes. Showing more results from Reddit and Quora. This is because they want answers from “real people.” Google has found that sites have been gaming SEO to make money with affiliate marketing, for example, and Google has been cracking down.  The Introduction of AI in Search Plus how is google going to implement AI in search. They are calling this the Google Search Generative Experience or SGE. Google is working on what this is going to look like, but one thing Google has said is their SGE will quickly provide users with the answers they need and not necessarily direct users to other sites or content.  If their AI, Gemini, can give you better results on their GSE page than sending you off to a site they don't control, you better believe they will do that. In fact, I think it's already happening in the travel space. Plus for successful bloggers monetizing with display ads, as 3rd party cookies get phased out,  advertisers not being able to track visitors, there will probably be downward pressure on ad revenue. Adapting to New Realities I was on a call with a food blogger this past week and I started painting this new picture for her and she couldn't believe what I was saying. She's an old school blogger. She doesn't really use AI in her and feels like her readers could definitely tell the difference.  When I told her it's all about her prompts and she could prompt her AI to sound like her, she got really upset. I told her she should start getting serious about learning how to use ChatGPT, she was shocked. When I told her that some people will be using AI for recipes and not going to blogs she didn't believe me. She said, “Who's going to get their recipe from a machine?” That's not high-quality content. Then over the next two days I heard of two people who get their recipes from ChatGPT and think it's so easy. Do I believe everyone will be getting their recipes from AI, no. But it will become more common. I don't mean to be painting a bleak picture for bloggers and they should not abandon creating great blog content. I just mean to point out that change is a foot and the more willing you are to embrace it, the more success you'll have. What this really means is opening the aperture of how we see our business, our target audience, and our opportunities to serve them. I wouldn't be surprised if the goal of cranking out blog posts, and getting them to rank in Google so you can make a full-time income from ad networks MediaVine or Raptive will shrink in the long run.  So I have 3 recommendations: 1. Diversify Your Traffic Sources Start investing in Pinterest again if you had given up on it in the past. It might take a couple of months to see ROI on it, but Pinterest static pins still drive traffic. I've heard of people going back to Facebook and using it to drive page views. I think this is especially true and platforms like Facebook are deprioritizing news. If you can build engagement with what you post on Facebook, you can drive traffic. I've even heard that people are starting to see traffic coming from other search engines like Bing. Bing is growing in search. So Google should not be your only play. And another place to invest in is growing your email list. Besides your blog, your email list is one of your most valuable assets. Because you own your email list. And all these people have said yes, to you showing up in their inbox. Think of that as them inviting you into their living room, so use it wisely. Give them value and let them get to know you. Focus in Email Marketing And remember, email marketing is the best and easiest way to sell. This also includes showing up on social media. Even if these platforms don't drive a lot of traffic, right now, it's about getting know. For you. Which leads to my next recommendation.  2.) Start Building Relationships With Your Audience Don't think of them as nameless, faceless, “traffic.” These are real people. Like you are a real person. And this is where your competitive advantage moving forward comes into play. With AI, even great content is becoming a commodity. I can get a recipe or DIY from AI now. But YOU are not a commodity. You are a problem solver.  Start Focusing on Your Brand I did a solo episode on how you are now not just a content provider. You are an expert, selling your “vibe.” A few of the bloggers I spoke to this past week, didn't like this idea because they're used to hiding behind their blogs. But I'm going to say, this is the new reality. Get used to putting yourself out there, so people can get to know you. This is why you want to figure out your personal brand based on your expertise and vibe and start sharing it. And finally, my last recommendation: 3. Sell Solutions to Problems This is all about finding new income streams. We're moving from an information economy (with AI, information is becoming a commodity) to a people-focused economy. Of course selling digital products is probably the easiest way to get started. If you want to talk to me about how to do it go to milotree.com and book a free 20-minute Zoo call with me. I'll help you readjust your thinking as a blogger. I feel like this is what I do a lot of. And yes, starting with an ebook or guide or other types of digital downloads is a great place to start because they're easy to create and they provide passive income. But what we see in our data at MiloTreeCart is the people making the most money are selling memberships, coaching, live 1-hour workshops. And notice something about each one of those products. It's you showing up live with other people. Sure, if you want to create online courses go for it, but we're seeing mixed success with that. I feel like people are a little coursed out. Book a Call with Me to Talk About Digital Products And at MiloTreeCart, we have all the resources and step-by-step guides to launch these products with ease and without burnout. Just talk to me about it. There are opportunities out there. You just have to look for them. This is your time to connect with other bloggers in your niche, join Facebook groups, watch what bloggers in other niches are doing.  In addition to selling digital products, you could also look into selling physical products like if you're a crafter selling products on Etsy. And another thing you can sell are affiliate products. If you don't want to start creating your own products and services, find affiliate products you can promote that will make you serious money. I'm not talking Amazon affiliate links.  But I recommend you find affiliate products that pay a lot of money. I'm talking about software products that have generous affiliate programs, so think about the tools you use and maybe you could be promoting them to other bloggers. In fact, we sell military card, as you may know, for a lifetime deal of $349 and we pay our affiliates $100 per sale. For example. We sell MiloTreeCart for $349 right now, lifetime deal. And we pay our affiliates $100 a sale.  April MiloTreeCart Affiliate Challenge And I'm even running a challenge in the month of April awarding an additional $250 bonus and a free hour-long coaching call for people who make 8 sales. You make 8 sales during the month you get over $1,350 in value. Here's how to join our MiloTreeCart affiliate program.  Look for Other Income Opportunities And there are other opportunities out there. For example, I had my friend Anca from The Butter Table on the show. She's the food blogger who, like many new bloggers, didn't want to grow her blog the traditional way and wait two years to get any traction, so she figured out how to create user generated content for brands, how to pitch to them, and she's making a killing. She's thinking outside the box. And btw, she's teaching people how to do this. And if you say, I don't have any marketable skills, I”m going to say, go learn a new skill that you can monetize. And if you know how to do anything with AI, you can sell that as a skill. Maybe you can teach other bloggers how to use AI to write blog posts or emails. How Blogging Is Changing and What to Do Now Yes, the world of blogging is changing. What's worked so far, might not work as well in the future. Lean into your brand and your vibe. Your blog is not your brand. You are. Diversify your traffic sources and show up on social media even if it doesn't drive traffic because you want people to know you and you get to know people. It's no longer about traffic, it's about people. Invest in growing your mailing list. Sending emails is the easy way to create your superfans who trust you and will buy from you. Diversify your revenue streams and start selling solutions. You don't need millions of people. You just need a loyal audience who is interested in your blog niche. Find problems you can solve and charge for the solutions. It's a good idea to teach yourself new marketable skills that you can monetize. Find the opportunities (like great affiliate programs like MiloTreeCart) because there will be many new ways people will be making good money on the internet. And this is all good news. And show up as an empathetic human people can relate to. If you have any questions, reach out to me. I love hearing from you. If you're having a rough time, reach out to me. If you want to start selling digital products, definitely reach out to me and we'll get on a free call. Now look, no one knows what the future holds if they say they do, do not trust them.  But I'm actually really bullish about the future of online business because it might not be about our blogs at a certain point. I'm not sure in the future people are going to be going to static web pages for information. But if you can show up as a real person with real solutions and willing to put in the hard work, you will win. I hope you found this episode helpful. And just so you know, there are many nights when I'm lying there wide awake thinking about all of this stuff. So maybe I recorded this episode as much for me as I did for you. Welcome back, everyone, to another episode of the Niche Pursuits News Podcast! Dig into the latest news in SEO, AI, and content creation with Jared and Spencer! They kick off this week's episode talking about Google's March Core Update. They talk specifically about scaled content abuse and how Google is going in and manually deindexing sites, sharing a study that looked at 79,000 websites on certain ad networks, of which 1146 were deindexed. Could this be a scare tactic by Google? Is it doing this manually to save its crawl budget? What exactly is going on? Google updated its quality rater guidelines to ensure that they ding those sites that don't disclose which articles were written with AI, describing AI-generated articles as the lowest form of content when ti comes to EEAT. Spencer offers some advice for content creators using AI and says that Google is going after sites with AI-generated content. He does make an important distinction, though. Tune in to hear what he says. Then they discuss how Google put out an FAQ on “pure spam” manual action notices, but as Jared notices, there is one important thing missing from the post. What is it? They then move on to a funny news item. John Mueller, one of Google's Search Liaisons, saw his site get dropped from Google, although it was recently reindexed. It's not clear why this happened or if it was a stunt, but it's definitely news! Spencer and Jared have some encouraging words for listeners about the core update overall, so listen to the episode to hear what they have to say. Moving along, they announce Mediavine's new program, Journey, for sites getting around 10k sessions per month. This is a great alternative for people with smaller sites to allow them to get monetized with Mediavine. As this is a new program, Spencer and Jared have a lot of questions about it and about how it will run, and why it's being launched now. Things take a “nerdy” turn afterwards as Jared talks about how Google Search Console has rolled out the new core web vitals. What changes have been made, and what is INP all about? Moving along, they share that Reddit has announced a new tool for business growth, allowing companies to spot trends, track mentions, monitor post performance, etc.  The goal is to help brands promote themselves organically, and it could be a good platform to use as people consider diversifying away from Google. Tune in to listen to what Spencer and Jared think about this idea. And the last item on the agenda is the news that the Associated Press has launched an e-commerce site with product reviews.  What is so unsettling about this headline for Spencer? What do they say about presidential campaigns, blenders, and multivitamins? As for Shiny Object Shenanigans, Spencer gives an update on his Amazon Influencer Program side hustle. He reports that his earnings are steady this month, at $1,600, with no major dips but also no major growth. Jared chimes in with his earnings this month, too! He also talks about his new premium Niche Pursuits Community, for which he just did an expert call to talk about the program, sharing all of the juicy details about how he built this income stream.  When it's Jared's turn, he talks about adding a new, professionally edited video and thumbnail to his Weekend Growth YouTube channel.  He also talks about how he's using SparkLoop to grow his newsletter subscriber list, and after spending +$200, he has acquired +200 subscribers. Tune in to hear all of the details and learn more. As for their Weird Niche Sites, Spencer goes first and reveals Horse Name Ideas. This weird website has hundreds of categories as well as a name generator, and perhaps what's most surprising is what he reveals when he looks at Ahrefs. But when Spencer and Jared discuss the site owner's photo, the About page, the mission statement, and the contact phone number, what happens? Listen to find out. When it's Jared's turn, he shares Healthy Wage and even reads from its Wikipedia page. This DR60 site is only ranking for 3.6k keywords, but it does have social proof and is very popular. How can the principles of this page be used by other site owners? Check out the episode to hear what they say. And that brings us to the end of another episode of the Niche Pursuits News podcast. Welcome back to this week's episode of the Niche Pursuits News podcast, where Spencer and Jared report on all the latest news in SEO.  It was a busy week, so tune in to hear what's new at Google and how changes there effect content creators and webmasters. Stay for the latest updates on their side hustles, and don't miss the weird niche site discussion at the end.  The first news item is a big one. Based on a post on LinkedIn, there's speculation that Google's SGE might not be rolled out now, or maybe not even at all. That's obviously great news for SEOs. Spencer and Jared dissect this news item and try to understand what Google's future plans are. Are there really going to be changes? What's behind the gradual shift in the language they're using? Listen to the episode to hear what they think is actually happening. The conversation continues to revolve around Google, but the topic shifts to what's going on behind the scenes there. Another LinkedIn post gives a bit of insight into the company, suggesting that the company has no real leadership and is plowing ahead with AI while slowly killing organic search. Is Google really done innovating? Does the company need new leadership? Hear what Spencer and Jared have to say about the situation. The next news item up for discussion is Google's announcement that its contract with Appen has ended and it has cut thousands of search quality rater jobs.  Although there was confusion about whether or not Google was getting rid of all of its quality raters, the company confirmed that it's simply cutting ties with Appen. How did this news initially come to light? Spencer has the scoop! The last news item today is that Sports Illustrated's publisher has laid off most of its union staff. You might recall that SI was busted recently for using fake AI-generated personnel on its website and, as a result, the CEO got fired. Want to hear more of the drama at SI and with AI and the world of publishing? Listen to the full episode! In the Shiny Object Shenanigans portion of the podcast, Spencer revisits a website he started about a year ago, the goal being to drive traffic from Facebook. His Facebook page has 45k likes, and he shared the strategy he's using to get people to his site. How's it doing? Does it have potential? What happened when he applied to Mediavine? He shares some Facebook page metrics, including link clicks, and he fields several questions from Jared about his strategy.  Jared reveals a new and exciting side hustle he's got in the works: a public speaking side hustle. He's set a goal for the year to speak at 4 conferences, and he's already got a few lined up. But what does he hope to earn or achieve from this new side hustle? When it comes to Weird Niche Sites, Spencer goes first with Let's Learn Slang, and he looks at a few of the articles and shares their stats from Ahrefs.  How could the site have established more topical relevance? And what do Spencer and Jared think of the About page?  Jared then shares his site: Easy Toilet Tips, the number one source for lavatory bias-free reviews.  The site has a ton of content but hasn't put a lot of thought or effort into UX. Although it seems like an AI-generated website, Ahrefs reveals that it's been around longer than that. Traffic peaked at one point, but it was devastated by the HCU. And that brings us to the end of another episode of the Niche Pursuits News podcast. We hope you're feeling up-to-speed on all the latest SEO news and inspired by Spencer and Jared's side hustles and general insight. See you next Friday!

Welcome back! We're here with another episode of the Niche Pursuits News Podcast, where Spencer and Jared highlight what's happening in SEO, content creation, website creation, and beyond.  Listen in if you want to hear the latest about Google, SGE, unique side hustle strategies, and some weird niche sites. The first news item this week that Spencer and Jared discuss is a recent report that says that Google's results are getting worse. It's based on a year-long study of product review queries.   How did Google respond? What exactly did the study assess to come to this conclusion? And what do they consider “low quality?” Spencer and Jared have many thoughts on this topic, so tune in to find out whether they think it's legit or not. The next topic up for discussion is Google's SGE. A recent article states that 94% of Google SGE links are different from organic search results. So now we have about 10 links in the SGE results plus another 10 from organic search and most are not the same.  What does this mean for publishers? Is this good news or bad news? How does this affect you if you're ranking first in the organic results but have an SGE pack ahead of you? And what does this mean for you if you're not appearing in organic results? Are there 2 different standards at play here? Talk about Google SGE continues when Spencer and Jared discuss an article about the impact of SGE by industry, which reveals that the sector most impacted by the SGE is healthcare as those queries have triggered the most responses. In contrast, finance is at the bottom of the list. What's interesting about the difference in performance between these YMYL niches? And what conclusions do Spencer and Jared come to as they analyze the SGE performance statistics by industry?  As for Shiny Object Shenanigans, Spencer goes first and talks about his new YouTube channel, where all of his podcast episodes will now live. Although he was initially worried that people wouldn't be able to find the channel, he was pleasantly surprised to see that the first episode published there got over 1200 listens in just over 24 hours. With over 350 subscribers already, Spencer's confident that he made the right decision to separate the channels and that people will still be able to find the podcast episodes. When it's Jared's turn, he talks about a strategy he's using for his Weekend Growth newsletter that's allowing him to increase his agency business by providing a new service. Essentially it's a side hustle on top of a side hustle! It's definitely an idea that anyone with their own email list and business can adapt to their niche. He also gives an interesting update on the Amazon Influencer Program and his family. Check out the episode to hear the latest developments. When it comes to Weird Niche Sites this week, Spencer comes with a sub-niche of a niche with his site: The Arcade Stick. Arcade sticks can be customized and plugged in just about anywhere. The site, which is just a DR8, could be getting around 100k visitors per month, which is pretty interesting considering how niche it is, plus It's monetized on Mediavine. When it's Jared's turn, he shares a site called Emoji Combos. Although it's in beta, it still works perfectly. This DR43 site ranks for 140k keywords and gets over a million organic visits per month.  What unique keywords is it ranking for? How is the site monetized? And how much money do they think the site is making per month? And that brings us to the end of another episode of the Niche Pursuits News Podcast. Brock Yates joins the Niche Pursuits podcast to share his journey of acquiring and growing the website AllTurtles.com. He acquired the site on Flippa in 2012 for $3,000. At purchase, the site was a forum with 80,000 pages with thin content about specific turtle species, generating $60 per month. This all presented a whole new world for him, as he had zero prior SEO and site-building experience. Fast forward to today and AllTurtles peaks at 150-180,000 page views per month, earning mid-five figures a year. Brock attributes much of the site's success to its history, branding, well-rounded content, and some link juice from a large brand's fun little PR confusion he describes. He's largely taken a hands-off approach to content production but still manages to produce quality content. Which he emphasizes is the result of hiring good researchers if you can't access subject matter experts. It's interesting to hear about his mostly outsourced content creation model and his strategy for hiring writers through Upwork. And its especially interesting to hear how affordable his writing team is, which has stuck with him over a long term. He also shares insights on content monetization strategy, primarily relying on Mediavine and Amazon Associates, with a 90-10 split in revenue. And Brock highlights how he maximizes ad revenue through content structure and layout, highlighting the importance of ad impressions and reader experience. He finishes things off with his plans for maintaining the site's stability and growth, including potential future strategies such as video content, email list building, and improving reader engagement. I'm Jillian, your host, and today I'm excited to share with you an insightful conversation I had with SEO expert, Casey Markee. We delved into the recent Google updates, their impact on bloggers, how AI is changing blogging and what the future might look like as 3rd-party cookies get phased out, and how to position yourself for success in 2024. The Future of Blogging: AI and the Potential Decline of Ad Revenue As we approach 2024, I posed a question to our audience: How do you plan to grow your income considering the competition from AI content and the potential decline in ad revenue due to the phase-out of third-party cookies? I suggested that bloggers pivot by selling their own digital products and services to their audience. A tool I recommend is MiloTreeCart, which allows users to set up memberships, digital downloads, workshops, coaching, and mini-courses in less than ten minutes. It's user-friendly and offers real people to provide assistance. Many bloggers initially go through a stage of bargaining, hoping that the changes they made will improve their rankings. However, when they see that the updates didn't have the desired impact, they move into a stage of depression. They realize that they won't be able to achieve the same level of success as before. Eventually, they reach the acceptance stage, understanding that SEO is a long-term process and they need to make the necessary changes to recover. Misconceptions about Google Updates and Content Structure Casey clarified that FAQs and specific information are still relevant, but bloggers need to avoid overloading their posts with unnecessary content. He emphasized the importance of being useful and avoiding superfluous information. He advised bloggers to optimize their posts for different audiences by providing a clear answer at the top of the post and offering additional information for those who want more details. The Role of AI in Content Creation We discussed the evolving landscape of content creation and the potential impact of AI technology. We acknowledged the convenience and efficiency that AI brings to our lives but also expressed concerns about its potential to replace human creators. Casey emphasized that AI should be used as an efficiency boost and a way to fine-tune existing skills rather than relying solely on AI-generated content. He believes that bloggers can benefit from using AI tools to save time and focus on other aspects of their work. The Impact of Recent Google Updates on Bloggers Casey predictes that there may be another update in the near future, considering the significant changes seen in October. He mentions that platforms like Quora and Reddit have gained prominence in search results due to their user-generated content. However, he highlighted the challenge of determining the credibility and expertise of the contributors on these platforms. The Importance of Focusing on What Bloggers Can Control Casey emphasizes the importance of focusing on what bloggers can control, such as their own content. He advises bloggers to ensure their content is updated, useful, and concise. He also recommended interlinking new posts with related older posts to create a strong internal network. The Future of AI and Blogging Casey predicts that artificial intelligence (AI) will continue to grow, and bloggers who have been slow to embrace it will join the bandwagon in 2024. He believes that high school kids will increasingly help their parents run their businesses, and the loss of third-party cookie data in 2024 could have a negative effect on income. To compensate for this loss, bloggers will need to gather first-party data through email subscribers, site behavioral data studies, and loyalty programs. The Significance of Third-Party Cookies and Their Impact on Blogging We discussed the significance of third-party cookies and how they track users' online activities. Casey mentioned that ad companies like Raviv and Mediavine have their own solutions to replace the lost cookie information. He advised bloggers to invest in their email efforts to track and engage their audience. The Dominance of Google in the Search Engine Market Casey discussed the dominance of Google in the search engine market and predicted that its traffic percentage will continue to rise. He believes that third-party search engines, no matter how much money they invest, cannot compete with Google's market share. The Importance of Being Human and Creating a Community We concluded by acknowledging the fast-paced changes in the industry and the need for bloggers to find new ways to engage their audience. Casey emphasized the importance of being human and creating a community around the blog. He advised bloggers to focus on providing helpful content that meets the needs of users rather than just targeting keywords. In this ever-evolving digital landscape, it's crucial for us, as bloggers, to stay informed, adapt, and continue to provide valuable content to our audience. Stay tuned for more insightful discussions on the future of blogging. Welcome back to another episode of the Niche Pursuits podcast! This week, Jared plays hosts alongside his guest Tony Hill, a niche site expert with about 2 decades of experience. Come along as they dissect and digest the latest news on SEO, digital marketing, Google, niche sites, and beyond. They kick off the show talking about the October core update, which just completed its 2-week rollout. Tony talks about how many sites got hit by both the HCU and this update, and Jared talks about whether or not the second update was a rollback of sorts by Google.  What's the current status of UCG sites? When do sites generally experience volatility during an update? Is Google demoting content that it thinks users don't need as much when they have access to AI resources like Bard? Is Google taking a different route in interpreting users' search queries? Tune in to hear their thoughts. The next topic is Mediavine's assessment of Google's Helpful Content Update. The ad company reports that just 5.8% of its sites were negatively affected, but would Mediavine site owners agree with that statistic? How transparent is the company's analysis? And was ad density one of the characteristics targeted by Google in the update? Find out what Tony and Jared think. Moving on, they discuss an article on Reuters about Google, AI, and its Search Generative Experience. The news outlet calls the search tool a “red flag” in the lengthy relationship between publishers and Google, and quotes experts who confirm that SGE is going to decrease publishers' organic traffic.  Jared and Tony talk about the importance of the situation being reported in the mainstream news to create more awareness. They agree that it's still the very early days and time will tell how it all plays out. Will the lite version of SGE remain? Will the antitrust lawsuit Google's facing be a determining factor? Listen to find out what Jared and Tony think. In the Shiny Object Shenanigans portion of the podcast, Jared talks about the Amazon Influencer Program and how it had taken a turn for the worse. His videos weren't appearing anymore and clicks had plummeted… until a few days ago. Everything seems to have turned around: clicks are up, his videos are back, and his fingers are crossed for 4Q. Stay tuned to find out how it all ends! Tony talks about Google Discover and how many websites are seeing a boost in traffic, which can happen after updates like the recent ones. He discusses brand new sites getting Google Discover traffic and sites that have been getting traffic for years going down to zero. He also mentions that Google is now considering a desktop version, and talks about his own experience with his sites on Google Discover. As for weird niches this week, Jared goes first with Halloween Jokes. This seasonal site ranks for just 1300 keywords, some of which are in the top 10. The site is making some ad revenue and would be relatively easy to recreate using AI. They also talk about the possibility of making a series of sites for different holidays as a way to maintain traffic year-round.   Tony shares a weird site as well, Find a Grave, which is like a Wikipedia with information about people's graves. It's Friday, and that means it's time for another episode of the Niche Pursuits News podcast, where Jared and Spencer break down the latest SEO news into bite-size pieces. Buckle up people, because they cover many, many topics on today's episode! It's been one week since Google announced its core update for October, plus the spam update was rolled out, so Jared and Spencer first talk about how to know which may be affecting your site. For those affected by the HCU, they look at a very exhaustive, data-heavy resource and highlight some of the conclusions, including what type of content performed better, how new sites fared in the update, how article length importance has shifted, and conclusions about AI content. They also share their opinions on some of the author's theories and touch on the future of updates. Moving on, Spencer and Jared address Google's antitrust lawsuit and the recent news reveals that Apple was in talks to buy Bing or DuckDuckGo. They talk about the money that was exchanged between Apple and Google and how Apple negotiated the deal. The next topic is how a recent op-ed on Wired claiming Google alters users' search queries was recently pulled from their website for “not meeting their editorial standards,” and Jared and Spencer discuss why it might have disappeared. In the latest SGE news, they talk about how Google appears to be testing a lite version, where the results are taking up less space at the top of the page. They share a few theories about why this is, how the experience has changed over recent months, and what this means for website owners. In other SGE news, the conversation shifts to Google's AI-powered search and its ability to generate images and drafts. They also talk about how AI images are something we should be paying attention to. The next topic is how Google is using clicks to rank websites, contrary to what the search engine has said for years. They talk about the implications for privacy data and how this information may change the way we operate.  In the Shiny Object Shenanigans portion of the podcast, Spencer talks about a website in the news niche he created with his kids, the goal of which is to get traffic from Facebook. He built up a Facebook page to 30k followers and the website has traffic of 27k over the last month. His goal is to get into Mediavine in the coming months, and he'll report back as he and his writer make progress. Jared then talks about a spreadsheet he created to help website owners, SEOs, and content creators with prompts relating to the HCU. It's free over the weekend and then he may start charging for it, so grab it now! When it comes to weird niche sites, Spencer shares Cake Wrecks, which documents cake fails and adds some funny titles to the cakes. The DR59 site, which has been around for many years, is making money through ads and the author also has a book.  As for Jared, his site is History Colored, which adds color to traditionally black-and-white photos. What probably started as a personal project to add color to photos eventually expanded into a bigger website that targets informational topics and gets more traffic. They talk about how some pages might go viral. With 515k followers on Facebook and 355k subscribers on YouTube, this is a topic that does well on social media. And that brings us to the end of another jam-packed episode of the podcast. See you next week! Welcome back to another episode of the Niche Pursuits Podcast, where your hosts Spencer Haws and Jared Bauman, from 201 Collective, bring you all the latest news and insight in SEO, digital marketing, website building, and entrepreneurship. This week the hosts focus entirely on one major event in the space: Google's Helpful Content Update. As this major update has had wide-ranging effects on the niche site community, Spencer and Jared break it down for us and share some words of encouragement. The update, which came out a week ago, has really shaken up the community. All across X, website owners are sharing graphics and reports that reflect the very negative impact of the update.  Spencer and Jared highlight the change in Google's wording, where the focus has shifted from content “written by people” to “written for people” and articles that needed to be “written by an expert” now need to be “written or reviewed by an expert.” They share the stats behind some of their own websites, which experienced both gains and losses and talk about the chances that Google may include a rollback before the update is fully complete. They also talk about the sites that benefited from the update, such as Quora, Reddit, and other forums; they share their thoughts on EEAT and UGC; and they discuss the impact on Mediavine sites in particular.  In the Shiny Object Shenanigans portion of the podcast, Spencer gives an update on his two new Niche Pursuits challenges, one where people (135 at the moment) will build a website with AI content from scratch, and the other where participants (73 currently) will add AI content to an existing website. The challenges are about to begin and Spencer will be hosting a kickoff call. Join the community and follow along! He also gives an update on his Amazon Influencer side hustle, reporting that Amazon has made changes in the way videos appear, which has in turn affected his earnings. He was about to crack the $2k per month, but these tweaks have kept him from reaching that goal. He has a total of 593 videos at the moment and plans to keep at it, at least through 4Q. Jared talks about his Amazon Influencer side hustle too, sharing that his earnings went off a cliff due to the change in how videos appear. He talks about how he thinks the program will play out in the future and whether it's worth sticking it out. Moving on to their Weird Niche Sites, Spencer goes first and shares Apple Rankings, a funny website that ranks apples according to taste. The site potentially gets about 55k visitors a month and has separate pages for different types of apples, which reflects a strong site structure. The site was created by a comedian, and it shows. Jared's site this week is Gizoogle, which translates content into “gangster-speak.” They test it out on some Niche Pursuits content with very entertaining results. This DA58 website gets very little organic traffic but has over 14 million backlinks. Although it's unclear if or how it's monetized, and even how it works, it's worth checking out for a good laugh. And that brings us to the end of another episode of the Niche Pursuits News Podcast. Don't forget to tune in next week for more inspiration and insight into the world of SEO, content creation, digital marketing, and website building. See you then! How Kristin Hanes Grew Her Blog to $30k Per Month While Living in a Broken-Down Sailboat

Niche Pursuits Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 2, 2023 58:54

We got a true dose of inspiration for you today. Founder of The Wayward Home, Kristin Hanes joins the Niche Pursuits podcast this week to share with host Jared her amazing story: How she started her blog with no prior knowledge of website building and living in a broken-down sailboat to now running a successful online business. It all began after being laid off from her job as a radio news reporter. She decided to start a blog and share interview-based articles about nomads on social media platforms like Facebook and Pinterest. With connections at SF Gate, some of her early articles got republished on the site bringing her some quality traffic and links. After six months, Kristin joined Mediavine and started earning income from ads on her site. But it wasn't until early 2019 that she decided to prioritize SEO, taking courses to help her improve her website's rankings. Implementing SEO strategies and updating old posts, Kristin saw a significant increase in traffic, reaching 120,000 page views per month by May 2019. She continued to publish new content while updating old articles, and her website's traffic grew to 300,000 monthly page views by the summer of 2019. Kristin attributes her success to her focus on SEO, improved writing skills, and targeting low-competition keywords in her niche. Currently, The Wayward Home generally earns between $25,000 to 30,000 per month and has an average of 400,000 monthly page views. Initially, Kristin wrote all the articles herself, focusing on pushing out as much content as possible. However, as her blog grew, she hired writers to help with content creation. Now, The Wayward Home has around 430 articles, with a team of writers specializing in different areas such as RVing, tiny homes, and van life. To assist with formatting and uploading articles, Kristin also has a virtual assistant. One key aspect of Kristin's strategy is prioritizing relevant and experience-based content over high search volume keywords. This approach has helped her establish credibility and attract a loyal audience. Additionally, being quoted in major media publications has provided valuable backlinks to her blog. Kristin is also experimenting with AI-generated content on a new niche site, exploring innovative ways to expand her online presence. Kristin's passion for helping others live a nomadic lifestyle is evident through her blog and social media channels. She offers resources and support to those interested in this lifestyle. Overall, Kristin's journey from starting a blog with no prior knowledge to building a successful online business is a testament to her dedication, strategic approach, and passion for helping others embrace a nomadic lifestyle. Google's Answer to "Reddit" Queries? Amazon Influencer Updates and a Weird Niche Site About Goats

Welcome back to another episode of the Niche Pursuits News Podcast with Spencer and co-host Jared Bauman, of 201 Creative. This week they talk about the latest problems for Google, their side hustles, and some very strange niche sites. You won't want to miss this one! They kick off this episode by talking about how Google employees recently expressed their dissatisfaction with search results after the Reddit blackout. In response, Google CEO Sundar Pichai acknowledged the issue and introduced a new feature called "perspectives" to address it, a move that shows that Google is trying to balance AI-generated content with human perspectives.  Jared and Spencer discussed how bloggers who provide unique human perspectives and hands-on experiences can benefit from this change, highlighting the importance of honesty, expertise, and authenticity in search results. Spencer also shared his thoughts about Google's plans with its search generative experience, as it's clear that people want well-researched human reviews in the search results. Also, the fact that the Reddit debacle has got Google's attention is great news for content creators and bloggers. Jared and Spencer then talked about more bad news for Google.  Google is getting in hot water on YouTube and across the web as they haven't been complying with the agreed characteristics of the ads they display on websites. This is relevant for content creators and niche site owners as they often have ads displayed through Ezoic, Mediavine, or AdThrive.  Tons of companies, large and small, have been paying for video ads and Google has been charging them but hasn't been complying with the agreed characteristics of the ads and hasn't been transparent or accurate in how the videos are being displayed. The big question that Spencer and Jared ask is how this affects us as website owners and content creators. Listen in to hear more about their thoughts on this topic. Then Spencer shared some reviews of the podcast on Apple Podcasts Reviews and asks people to leave a review and he will read your name and website on their next podcast episode. In the Shiny Object Syndrome portion of the podcast, Spencer begins by talking about his new WordPress plugin, Rank Logic, which is now available. He talks about the challenges behind creating a plugin and preparing for the launch. Rank Logic offers users a better way to track their SEO performance. Jared talked about his side hustle using the Amazon Influencer Program, of which he has officially been a member for 30 days. He was happy to report that he broke the $1000 mark in his first month, a trend that will likely continue even if he doesn't keep uploading videos. He also talks about his daily earnings and the possibilities of growing his income even further. In the Weird Niche Site portion, Jared goes first and talks about Hire Goats, a site that lets you rent goats and have them come and manicure your property. The site was created in 2017 and has a DR of 26 although it's only ranking for 260 keywords. The 7-page site does, however, rank number one for all keywords related to renting goats, and although it's a very glitchy experience and it's a directory website, it's very possible that they're earning some money from it. When the hosts click around, they see that the goat landscaping website links to HireSheep.com. It's a whole world of possibilities! Then Spencer talks about his weird niche site, Random Word Generator which, as the name suggests, lets you generate random words, numbers, and phrases with certain characteristics. It's monetized with ads and gets 1.3 million organic visitors per month from Google and potentially 3 of 4 million visitors per month in total.  It has a DR of 72 and has really capitalized on all kinds of random generators, from dinner ideas to Bible verses, and could be earning at least $50k per month. As Jared and Spencer dig a little deeper, it looks like the creator has a whole network of successful sites. This conversation and Spencer and Jared's ideas are sure to get the creative juices flowing, so don't miss this episode!
