Lesley Arfin gets Famously Dumped in one of the most heart wrenching ways: GHOSTED. 100% ghosted. And she went absolutely full psycho. She wrote, drank, did a lot of drugs and "abused" herself to get through it. OOF, this one was the most stinging pain she'd ever felt and repressed it until she got sober. And her advice: just go through it and don't die. Period.

Bang!,' 'Arrested Development,' 'Rob & Big,' and he’s also been seen on screen in 'Super Fun Night,' 'Parks and Recreation,' and 'Inglorious Basterds.' Episode 42: I spend an hour with Paul Rust, creator, executive producer and starring actor of LOVE on Netflix! He tells me about pitching the concept as a movie with his wife and co-creator Lesley Arfin to Judd Apatow, and why they decided to turn it into a show instead. He also tells me about his influences, which range from Pee-Wee, to Paul Thomas-Anderson, to Prince (a fellow midwestern boy, like Paul himself). He also tells me why he loves to create joyous, light-hearted comedies and gives me a peek into what’s to come on the final season of (what happens to be my favorite show) LOVE! My guest this week is writer and painter Lesley Arfin. Like many of my guests, Lesley is a good friend (so maybe I'll stop saying that now every week). When I met her I had heard about this cool girl who was writing really vulnerable, personal pieces as a column for Vice called "Dear Diary". She's then gone on to write on the TV show Girls and create the amazing show Love (on Netflix). She's due to have a baby in October, so her playlist is all for her baby girl.1. Going to bed early is fantastic, am I right? I mean, I know it's hard to do, but like, it's the best. Some people think staying up late is awesome though. Sure, the idea of it is cool, but like, what's the point? We need to go to bed, people! Well, Paul Rust doesn't think so! He loves staying up late and being a bad boy and all that "cool" stuff that just frankly isn't that important. Our guest, Paul Rust is a mega media hunk, guys. He stars in and co-created (with his stellar wife, Lesley Arfin) the wonderful show "Love" on Netflix and also co-wrote the new Pee-wee Herman movie with Pee-wee HIMSELF. I don't think we are exaggerating when we say that his career and very existence is a dream come true. Theme Music by John Haskell Logo Art by Darin Shuler

Mitch and Wiger welcome writer/producer Lesley Arfin (HBO's Girls, Netflix's Love), who helps analyze cajun fried chicken chain Popeyes and tells us the virtues of eating cookies for breakfast. Mitch and Lesley compete in another edition of the Wiger Challenge.
Lesley Arfin was one of the growing number of fantastic people I'd never met before talking to them on the podcast. Fortunately, we hit it off nicely and had a great conversation about her work as a writer on Girls, Awkward, Portlandia, and Brooklyn 9-9. As you might imagine, these are all very different shows which means very different styles of writing, and though Lesley herself admits it wasn't always the best fit, it was always a good experience, or at the very least a learning experience. We also talk about smoking crack by accident and how good writing staffs consist of people with different strengths although it never hurts to be strong at everything. Did I mention the "smoking crack by accident" thing? In addition to her work in television, Lesley wrote for Vice Magazine as well as numerous other publications, and her book, Dear Diary, though according to Lesley is full of "bad writing" is still very entertaining. Currently Lesley is not working on anything she wants to talk about because she might believe in jinxes. Too late!
Lesley Arfin is the guest. She was a staff writer on the first two seasons of the hit television show Girls, starring Lena Dunham, and she also writes on the MTV series Awkward. Her book, Dear Diary, is based on a column of the same name that originally appeared in Vice magazine. It was published by Vice Books/MTV Press in 2007. Sarah Silverman says “Here’s your chance to have all the benefits of a tortured adolescence without the shitty childhood. Congratulations!” And Chloe Sevigny says "What I love about Dear Diary is how strongly it resonates with all girls. We all went through a bitch phase that makes us cringe when we remember it. We tried being good; we tried being bad; we made other girls feel like shit before we knew what it felt like...It seems like the world is ending when you're 17 and in the middle of it, but looking back now I realize that's what adolescence is all about: making mistakes. And that's why I love Dear Diary." Monologue topics: tweets, mail, alt-lit, Internet literature, Jordan Castro, Mira Gonzalez, Megan Boyle, Sam, women, vaginas, feminism.
