Expect strong opinions, questionable logic, and plenty of food you suddenly want to eat immediately.Grab a cookie, pour some eggnog, and join us for a festive food fight you didn't know you needed.Check out our website bestthingspod.com!Find us on TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter @bestthingspod.Wanna watch us? She loved the characters, the scenery, the costumes, and most importantly, the beautiful stories that came to life before her eyes. As a teenager, Tracy joined her high school drama department and got her own taste of small stage stardom—as well as her first glimpse into the challenges that schools and community theaters face, such as limited budgets, little to no stage or storage space, and the lack of scripts for large cast sizes. Upon entering adulthood, Tracy settled into life as a wife and mother, but the theater came calling again when her husband accepted a job as a junior high drama teacher. Once again, those challenges presented themselves—little to no budget, a small stage with only a few working lights, and difficulty finding scripts with enough roles for his ever-increasing class numbers. That is when playwriting entered Tracy's life. With the start of school quickly approaching, Tracy decided to pen her first one-act play, an adaptation of O. Henry's “The Gift of the Magi”. The play was well received by the students, and Tracy decided to seek publication for the script as well as continuing to write more one-act plays and eventually full-length plays as well. Tracy now has more than two hundred published plays and skits with a number of publishers and her plays have been produced all across the country as well as internationally. When she writes a play, Tracy continues to keep in mind those challenges she recognized all those years ago on the high school stage—limited budget, small stages, and the desire to let each character shine. Tracy continues to write plays for the youth and Christian market and resides with her husband and two children in Metro Detroit. The Scene TeamJustin Borak - Host Zach Dulli - Executive Producer KJ Lampar - Producer Leah Barker - Producer & Talent CoordinatorJim Colleran - EditorAdditional music and sound effects licensed through Envato ElementsLinksBe sure to follow The Scene Podcast on Instagram and YouTubeSubscribe to The Scene NewsletterSpecial ThanksJennifer IsaacsonLauren KardosJeffery KeilholtzShow ContributorsLeah BarkerJustin BorakJim ColleranZach DulliKJ LamparTracy Wells The Scene TeamJustin Borak - Host Zach Dulli - Executive Producer KJ Lampar - Producer Leah Barker - Producer & Talent CoordinatorJim Colleran - Editor Additional music and sound effects licensed through Envato Elements LINKSBe sure to follow The Scene Podcast on Instagram and YouTubeSubscribe to The Scene Newsletter

CALIFORNIA JOB LOSSES AND CHINA'S ECONOMIC SLOWDOWN AMID RETAIL SEASON Colleague Chris Riegel. California's new wage mandates have triggered significant job losses in the fast-food sector, forcing operators to move to lower-tax states. Internationally, while China boasts of leads in AI and EVs, these sectors rely on unsustainable subsidies, masking a deep consumer recession and deflation in the property market. On this episode of the Nonsense Podcast, we kick things off with another wild Kelly Fact, learning that Iceland skips Santa Claus entirely and instead unleashes the Yule Lads — 13 mischievous trolls who reward good kids with gifts and bad kids with rotten potatoes. Naturally, FNBob immediately fires off a short joke aimed at Henvincible, while Henvincible argues the Yule Lads sound like an elite metal band name. From there, the boys spiral into fast food frustration, with FNBob accusing Burger King of microwaving meals and declaring warm Frosties at Wendy's a crime against humanity. Things get even worse when Henvincible learns that Breyers isn't legally ice cream anymore, setting the tone for a rough week recap.Henvincible unloads about slipping on Chicago ice, injuring his knee, losing his wallet, and barely surviving winter driving, while FNBob tries to play tech support by suggesting tracking wallets and going digital with cards. Then it's time for the big topic of the week — John Cena's retirement. Henvincible reflects on Cena's highs and lows and questions whether his final run lived up to his legendary status. FNBob shares a surprising shift in perspective after talking to fans across different generations, despite never being a true Cena guy.The wrestling talk keeps rolling with debates on Kurt Angle, Bret Hart (who FNBob openly hates), and the ultimate ridiculous question: Hurricane or Shark Boy? FNBob struggles mightily to answer. The episode wraps with some love for Naruto games, because of course it does.

AI is already reshaping the workforce. What about teenagers?Turns out, they might be more impacted than anyone else. After all, they're usually in low-skill entry-level jobs that AI can replace. The problem ... teens are losing their first experience with working, making money, and establishing an identity outside of their homes. In this episode of TechFirst, host John Koetsier speaks with Karissa Tang, a high school senior and UCLA research assistant, about her new study on how AI will impact teen employment. While most workforce studies focus on adults, Karissa analyzed the top 10 most popular teen jobs from cashiers to fast food workers and found something alarming: AI could reduce teen employment by nearly 30% by 2030.We dig into:• Which teen jobs are most vulnerable to AI and automation• Why cashiers and fast-food counter workers are hardest hit• The role of self-checkout, kiosks, and robots like Flippy• Which teen jobs appear safest (for now)• Why teens may be even more exposed to AI than adults• What schools, policymakers, and teens themselves can do nextThis is a must-watch conversation for parents, students, educators, and policymakers trying to understand how AI is reshaping early work experiences—and what it means for the next generation.
It's a Christmas themed episode of The Best Things Podcast as Craig and Aaron break down the most memorable characters from Christmas movies and TV specials, debate the heavy hitters, and bracket it all out to crown the best Christmas character of all time.Quick note for listeners: This is a throwback episode, originally released in 2022... Ironically, when this episode was originally recorded, Aaron was on the verge of becoming a dad. As this episode drops again, he and his wife are once again expecting a baby around Christmas. Policy analyst Sam Cardwell of the Mountain States Policy Center argues that California's new $20 minimum wage for fast-food workers is a warning sign for the rest of the country. Citing a National Bureau of Economic Research study, he says the policy coincided with an estimated 18,000 fast-food jobs lost between September 2023 and September 2024 and a steeper employment decline than in other states. Cardwell applies those findings to Washington, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming, estimating thousands of potential job losses if each adopted a $20 minimum wage, and points to higher restaurant prices in Seattle as evidence of existing wage pressures. He concludes that large minimum wage hikes risk leaving some workers with “a minimum wage of zero.” https://www.clarkcountytoday.com/opinion/opinion-fast-food-jobs-at-risk-with-high-minimum-wages/#UnitedStates #MinimumWage #FastFoodJobs #CaliforniaPolicy #WashingtonState #MountainStatesPolicyCenter #Opinion
In this episode of Busy Gallivanting, I'm joined by Kate as we explore Yosemite National Park — one of the most iconic, photographed, and awe-inspiring destinations in the U.S. We share our full experience from wandering among the ancient Giant Sequoias in Mariposa Grove to standing at Tunnel View, taking in the panoramic sweep of El Capitan, Half Dome, and Bridalveil Fall. We talk about the beauty of Yosemite's dramatic cliffs, lush meadows, and powerful waterfalls, and what it feels like to hike through a place shaped by glaciers and time.We dive into what it actually takes to plan a Yosemite trip: navigating unpredictable weather, understanding trail conditions, and choosing the right gear when temperatures swing without notice. From the towering drop of Yosemite Falls — the tallest waterfall in the continental U.S. — to quiet moments on forested trails, we share the parts of Yosemite that surprised us, challenged us, and stayed with us long after we left the park. And, naturally, our adventure includes a joyful detour into California's fast-food scene — proof that even the most nature-heavy trips can be paired with chaotic, delicious road snacks. If you're planning a Yosemite itinerary, craving national park inspo, or simply want to immerse yourself in stories from the outdoors, this episode blends travel reflection, practical insight, and a whole lot of love for America's national parks.

Join Jim and Greg for the Monday 3 Martini Lunch as they break down Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz facing intense backlash over a massive welfare fraud scandal, California's latest proof that minimum wage hikes only make things worse, and Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett sounding increasingly like a 2026 U.S. Senate candidate.First, they're encouraged to see even the New York Times hammering Gov. Tim Walz for failing to stop hundreds of millions of dollars in public assistance fraud on his watch. It's partly because the evidence is irrefutable, but Jim also says the political handwriting is on the wall for last year's Democratic vice presidential nominee. They also point to new data showing California's $20 fast-food minimum wage is playing out exactly as critics predicted. The state lost 19,000 fast-food jobs over the past year while menu prices surged. Jim and Greg explain yet again why this policy cannot work but also question whether Democrats will ever learn. Finally, they rub their hands with glee as Rep. Jasmine Crockett signals she's preparing a U.S. Senate run in Texas next year. Jim and Greg look at the likely Democratic field and the potential for a fiery GOP primary too. They're both pretty skeptical that Crockett could win statewide or even keep it fairly close. Please visit our great sponsors:Give your liver the support it deserves with Dose Daily.
