Note from Jeannine: So, this is a pretty big one for me. In 2020, while my studio was closed, I started manically listening to various podcasts every day looking for motivation and insight. One morning while sitting on the floor of our strength room, I heard the story of The Coffee Bean, as told through Clemson coach, Dabo Sweeney. The origins of that story begin in a jail cell in Texas - with today's guest. Interviewing him and telling him the impact his story had on me was a very cool experience and a reminder to me that my Higher Power is always working in my life...even when I can't see it. Special thank you to Dave from Dopey for connecting me with Damon. Enjoy!Episode description:Today Jeannine interviews Damon West, M.S. Criminal Justice. Damon is a college professor, internationally known keynote speaker and 3 x Wall Street Journal bestselling author. His bestselling business book, The Coffee Bean: A Simple Lesson to Create Positive Change, was listed by Forbes' in the “Top Twenty Books You Need to Read to Crush 2020.”His autobiography, The Change Agent: How a Former College QB Sentenced to Life in Prison Transformed His World, vividly tells how he transformed the pot of boiling water that is a Texas maximum-security prison into a pot of coffee. At 20 years old, he was a Division 1 starting quarterback at the University of North Texas, when he suffered a career ending injury. He turned to hardcore drugs to cope with disappointments of life. After graduation, he worked in the United States Congress, was a national fundraiser on a U.S. Presidential campaign and eventually trained to be a stockbroker for United Bank of Switzerland (UBS). One day at UBS, he was introduced to methamphetamines; he became instantly hooked—and the lives of so many innocent people would forever be changed by the choices he made in order to feed his insatiable meth habit. After a fateful discussion during his incarceration with a seasoned convict, Damon had a spiritual awakening. He learned that, like a coffee bean changing with the application of heat and pressure, he was capable of changing the environment around him. Armed with a program of recovery, a renewed faith, and a miraculous second chance at life, Damon emerged from over seven years of prison a changed man. His story of redemption, grit and determination continues to inspire audiences today.Damon shares his story of how his first use of meth escalated into homelessness in 18 months, including all manner of tweaker hijinks, including a mail man hustle and stealing a car from the Texas Rangers police impound. We talk recovery, resentments, rebuilding after incarceration and never letting dreams die. This week brought emotional farewells and new beginnings, as Disney fans witnessed the closure of Muppet One Last Look at Muppet Courtyard (Grand Avenue) and Muppet Vision 3D Before It Closes ForeverVision 3D and saw fresh concept art for both coasts. As part of the WDW Weekly Update, here's what unfolded. Muppet*Vision 3D Officially Closes. It's official: MuppetVision 3D* has closed its doors at Disney's Hollywood Studios. Sam and Greg take a final stroll through the attraction, sharing behind-the-scenes views and paying tribute to the classic. Alongside video highlights and personal memories, we break down the Top 10 Quotes from Muppet*Vision 3D—including Fozzie's “banana cream pie”, Sam Eagle's patriotic finale, and Statler and Waldorf's relentless heckling. Fans of Jim Henson's legacy won't want to miss this nostalgic send-off. New Courtyard Concept Art Debuts With the attraction officially closed, new concept art has appeared on the construction walls surrounding the former Muppet Vision area. The updated visuals reflect a slight tweak in the Monsters Inc. Land. Compared to previous art shared at D23, this version shows a tweaked courtyard layout. The coaster show building remains part of the vision, but its placement is deeper into the backlot, creating breathing room between adjacent structures. Though Disney renamed the area Grand Avenue, it remains Muppet Courtyard in the hearts of fans. These changes mark a complete transformation of the area, setting the stage for something new while bringing to a close a legacy location. Disneyland Concept Art Expands the Story Over at Disneyland Resort, new concept art is adding layers to the park's 70th anniversary narrative. Updates to the entrance plaza include widened paths, revised landscaping, and what appears to be preparation for future infrastructure changes. However, the primary concern remains the Avatar experience. New visuals indicate how it might integrate into Disneyland's footprint, fueling speculation over land use and attraction placement. Additional Park Highlights Back at Magic Kingdom, The Emporium is fully restocked, and VIPassholder character meet and greets are in full swing. The Hall of Presidents has reopened its lobby with updated historical exhibits. Meanwhile, both Tom Sawyer Island and the Liberty Belle Riverboat are set to close in July, giving guests one last chance to experience these peaceful Magic Kingdom staples. At Epcot, Test Track walls are down and testing is underway. The UK pavilion's pianist now performs at the Odyssey, and Annual Passholders are meeting Dopey thanks to new AP-exclusive offerings. Dopey, Happy, and a cold-blooded killer. Yes, Disney's 1937 Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was quite the mix of spectacle, song, and skull-filled dungeons. Yet we remember it as fun for the whole family. But now, nearly 90 years later, how does this hand-drawn delight hold up in our Pixar'ed world? Do the doodles feel dated? Is all the death talk too much by today's G-Rated standards? And why does that catty Magic Mirror have such a chip on his shoulder? She's the fairest but she isn't always the brightest. We get into the making of and nitty gritty details of 1937's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the FIRST DISNEY ANIMATED FEATURE FILM. As we talk plot and marvel at this animated classic, we also ask the hard questions: Did inhaling a bar of soap kill Dopey? Is Grumpy just a misogynist? This week on Dopey! In one of the possibly most powerful and emotional episodes of Dopey ever, Dr. Nzinga Harrison returns to the show to tell a story she's never shared before—despite being around the show for over five years. Her older brother, Kofi (aka Debo), has spent the last 30 years in prison for a triple homicide he didn't commit. This episode is about injustice, resilience, heartbreak, and family—and how one letter from the foreman of the jury might change everything.

This week on Dopey! Chris's sponsor Dylan is back! We hear all about how he is doing and reminisce about Chris and his final run before recovery! PLUS Cat Greenleaf stops in to read emails and talk shit!PATREON - www.patreon.com/dopeypodcastDOPEY LOVE LIVE with MARGARET CHO AND FRIENDS: https://publictheater.org/productions/joes-pub/2025/d/dopey-podcast-live/Episode Description:Buckle up, Dopey Nation—this one's a wild ride. Dylan returns to the show, and we get deep into the messiness of recovery: Is 12-step the only way? Can something else work? Does Dylan even want to build something new? It's a classic Dopey-style conversation—raw, honest, and full of uncertainty. Then, we get a next-level Dopey moment: a cleaning lady unknowingly eats a whole bar of mushroom chocolate, trips her face off, and leaves some of the most horrifying (and hilarious) voicemails we've ever heard. But that's not all. TV host and podcaster Kat Greenleaf stops by to talk about her version of recovery, her very personal views on "mouthfeel," and a psychedelic experience that supposedly did 30 years of therapy in one night. Plus, she shares the shocking truth about what she really loves to put in her mouth—and it's not what you think.Somehow, we squeeze in shoutouts, ads, and a surprise Pee-wee Herman connection. It's a jam-packed, totally unhinged episode of Dopey.Biggest Takeaways:Dylan wrestles with the idea of alternative recovery models—does he want to build one, or is he just doing Dopey?12-step's structure may be flawed, but it's survived nearly a century without scandals or profit motives, which is rare in the recovery world.A cleaning lady's accidental mushroom trip is both horrifying and peak Dopey chaos.Kat Greenleaf gets very candid about her oral fixation (in more ways than one).Psychedelic therapy might be the future—or just an excuse to get high in a controlled setting.Pee-wee Herman was secretly a huge Katz's fan and a sober ally.Don't leave drug-infused treats where unsuspecting people might eat them.Sponsors & Shoutouts:CustomStickers.com – Get Dopey stickers!
