This week on Dopey! It's the long-awaited episode with Chasing Heroin host Jeanine Coulter, recorded live at Jeremy's house during Dopeywood!Janine tells the full, raw, and very dopey story of her descent into addiction: from being a straight-A Supreme Court hopeful, to getting obsessed with exercise and binge eating, to discovering coke in a redneck bar in Georgia, all the way to living in an abandoned cell phone store in Oceanside, California smoking heroin off foil.Janine talks about doing meth that was pink, accidentally getting strung out at 30, and finding herself in a cinderblock junkie jungle gym run by tweakers. She reflects on her arrest record, her failed attempts at controlled drinking, and how it all somehow led to a decade of recovery, a podcast, and a damn TED Talk on post-traumatic growth.PLUS: a touching email from a listener who outran the cops with a trunk full of weed and somehow lived to tell the tale. A beautiful PCP voicemail and much much more on a brand new epiksode of that good ol Dopey Show!Don't forget: DopeyCon 6 tickets are out on Patreon. Leave a review. Send a voicemail. Zac and Jay sit down with Dave Manheim – creator of Dopey, the darkly hilarious and deeply moving podcast about “drugs, addiction, and dumb sh*t,” or as he now calls it, “the dark comedy of drug addiction.” What began as two friends swapping war stories has grown into a full-blown cultural force, with a diehard community, celebrity guests, and an archive of the funniest, most heartbreaking, and most brutally honest stories in the recovery world.Dave talks about launching Dopey just four months into sobriety with his late co-host Chris, the tragedy that reshaped the show, and why humor – especially the twisted kind – is a lifeline. He opens up about chasing guests like Marc Maron, Boy George, and Jason Biggs (and getting ghosted), his complicated feelings about being called “Dopey Dave,” and how working at Katz's Deli taught him more about recovery than any rehab ever did. They get into podcast beefs, the sad reality of grief that often shadows recovery, the great weed debate, and what happens when someone who never set out to “help people” accidentally does just that – over and over again. Dave's smart, incredibly earnest and very, very funny. If you've ever been told “once a junkie, always a junkie,” if you've experienced unexpected loss in recovery, or if you believe this addiction stuff is heavy enough and that humor is an essential ingredient in getting through it – please give this episode a watch or listen.Link to Dave's podcast: Dopey: On the Dark Comedy of Drug AddictionConnect with Zachttps://www.instagram.com/zwclark/https://www.linkedin.com/in/zac-c-746b96254/https://www.tiktok.com/@zacwclarkhttps://www.strava.com/athletes/55697553https://twitter.com/zacwclarkIf you or anyone you know is struggling, please do not hesitate to contact Release:(914) 588-6564releaserecovery.com@releaserecovery

Summer is here, and it's time to adapt your running strategy to the heat. Coach Chris Twiggs, Chief Training Officer for Jeff Galloway and Perfect Disney Marathoner (gearing up for his 33rd consecutive event!), joins us to share invaluable wisdom that will transform your warm-weather training. The conversation goes beyond just beating the heat. Coach Twiggs addresses returning from injuries, fueling strategies for long runs, and the mental challenges of staying motivated when progress feels slow. His most powerful insight? "If you can't find joy in the moment when you're running, then no race result is going to make you happy."For those tackling Disney challenge races like Dopey or Goofy, Coach shares critical mistakes to avoid, including setting time goals for these multi-day events and walking too much in the parks between races. We also explore the benefits of his customized training approach, which helps runners navigate life's inevitable interruptions without derailing their goals. In our Race Report Spotlight, we travel to Alaska with Courtney and Lance for the scenic Anchorage Half Marathon, complete with moose sightings and breathtaking landscapes along the airport trail system.Whether you're a seasoned marathoner or just beginning your running journey, this episode offers practical wisdom to help you embrace summer training while setting yourself up for success in your fall and winter races. Note from Jeannine: So, this is a pretty big one for me. In 2020, while my studio was closed, I started manically listening to various podcasts every day looking for motivation and insight. One morning while sitting on the floor of our strength room, I heard the story of The Coffee Bean, as told through Clemson coach, Dabo Sweeney. The origins of that story begin in a jail cell in Texas - with today's guest. Interviewing him and telling him the impact his story had on me was a very cool experience and a reminder to me that my Higher Power is always working in my life...even when I can't see it. Special thank you to Dave from Dopey for connecting me with Damon. Enjoy!Episode description:Today Jeannine interviews Damon West, M.S. Criminal Justice. Damon is a college professor, internationally known keynote speaker and 3 x Wall Street Journal bestselling author. His bestselling business book, The Coffee Bean: A Simple Lesson to Create Positive Change, was listed by Forbes' in the “Top Twenty Books You Need to Read to Crush 2020.”His autobiography, The Change Agent: How a Former College QB Sentenced to Life in Prison Transformed His World, vividly tells how he transformed the pot of boiling water that is a Texas maximum-security prison into a pot of coffee. At 20 years old, he was a Division 1 starting quarterback at the University of North Texas, when he suffered a career ending injury. He turned to hardcore drugs to cope with disappointments of life. After graduation, he worked in the United States Congress, was a national fundraiser on a U.S. Presidential campaign and eventually trained to be a stockbroker for United Bank of Switzerland (UBS). One day at UBS, he was introduced to methamphetamines; he became instantly hooked—and the lives of so many innocent people would forever be changed by the choices he made in order to feed his insatiable meth habit. After a fateful discussion during his incarceration with a seasoned convict, Damon had a spiritual awakening. He learned that, like a coffee bean changing with the application of heat and pressure, he was capable of changing the environment around him. Armed with a program of recovery, a renewed faith, and a miraculous second chance at life, Damon emerged from over seven years of prison a changed man. His story of redemption, grit and determination continues to inspire audiences today.Damon shares his story of how his first use of meth escalated into homelessness in 18 months, including all manner of tweaker hijinks, including a mail man hustle and stealing a car from the Texas Rangers police impound. We talk recovery, resentments, rebuilding after incarceration and never letting dreams die. This week brought emotional farewells and new beginnings, as Disney fans witnessed the closure of Muppet One Last Look at Muppet Courtyard (Grand Avenue) and Muppet Vision 3D Before It Closes ForeverVision 3D and saw fresh concept art for both coasts. As part of the WDW Weekly Update, here's what unfolded. Muppet*Vision 3D Officially Closes. It's official: MuppetVision 3D* has closed its doors at Disney's Hollywood Studios. Sam and Greg take a final stroll through the attraction, sharing behind-the-scenes views and paying tribute to the classic. Alongside video highlights and personal memories, we break down the Top 10 Quotes from Muppet*Vision 3D—including Fozzie's “banana cream pie”, Sam Eagle's patriotic finale, and Statler and Waldorf's relentless heckling. Fans of Jim Henson's legacy won't want to miss this nostalgic send-off. New Courtyard Concept Art Debuts With the attraction officially closed, new concept art has appeared on the construction walls surrounding the former Muppet Vision area. The updated visuals reflect a slight tweak in the Monsters Inc. Land. Compared to previous art shared at D23, this version shows a tweaked courtyard layout. The coaster show building remains part of the vision, but its placement is deeper into the backlot, creating breathing room between adjacent structures. Though Disney renamed the area Grand Avenue, it remains Muppet Courtyard in the hearts of fans. These changes mark a complete transformation of the area, setting the stage for something new while bringing to a close a legacy location. Disneyland Concept Art Expands the Story Over at Disneyland Resort, new concept art is adding layers to the park's 70th anniversary narrative. Updates to the entrance plaza include widened paths, revised landscaping, and what appears to be preparation for future infrastructure changes. However, the primary concern remains the Avatar experience. New visuals indicate how it might integrate into Disneyland's footprint, fueling speculation over land use and attraction placement. Additional Park Highlights Back at Magic Kingdom, The Emporium is fully restocked, and VIPassholder character meet and greets are in full swing. The Hall of Presidents has reopened its lobby with updated historical exhibits. Meanwhile, both Tom Sawyer Island and the Liberty Belle Riverboat are set to close in July, giving guests one last chance to experience these peaceful Magic Kingdom staples. At Epcot, Test Track walls are down and testing is underway. The UK pavilion's pianist now performs at the Odyssey, and Annual Passholders are meeting Dopey thanks to new AP-exclusive offerings. Dopey, Happy, and a cold-blooded killer. Yes, Disney's 1937 Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was quite the mix of spectacle, song, and skull-filled dungeons. Yet we remember it as fun for the whole family. But now, nearly 90 years later, how does this hand-drawn delight hold up in our Pixar'ed world? Do the doodles feel dated? Is all the death talk too much by today's G-Rated standards? And why does that catty Magic Mirror have such a chip on his shoulder?
