Interview by Kris PetersThe Australian music scene was undeniably strong in the 1990s, with bands like Blood Duster, Dreamkillers, Armoured Angel and Damaged just to name a few carving a name for themselves in that era.It was a time before the internet, where bands had to promote themselves in a vastly different way, pasting posters onto telegraph poles and spruiking their upcoming shows at other gigs in order to get their music heard. There was no easy way. It was pure persistence and willpower just getting your name out there. One of the bands to emerge from Brisbane in the early 90s was Crypt, an old-school death metal act who refused to take no for an answer.Quickly making themselves heard with their 1994 demo cassette Excruciating Agony, Crypt set about sonically dismantling all before them, with their 1998 album El Nino irrefutably painting their name onto a sonic landscape that may never be rivalled. Then Crypt disbanded, and, despite a couple of East Coast tours in 2016 and 2017, remained in limbo seemingly never to return.Well, return they have for Necrosonic Festival at Brisbane's Mansfield Tavern on August 31, with guitarist Nathan joining HEAVY to discuss the past, present and future of Crypt. We discussed Necrosonic Festival, where Crypt is set to perform their last show. Nathan reminisced about the thriving metal scene in Brisbane during the 90s, highlighting the camaraderie and social vibe among bands, plus provided insights into the upcoming 30th anniversary celebration of the demo cassette Excruciating Agony at Necrosonic by discussing plans to play the demo in full.He also shared details about the recording of a new song called Chilling Madness and the band's nostalgic collaboration with the original demo artwork artist for the new song's artwork. We also discussed their sound and where it came from, and dived deep into Crypt's past and more.Necrosonic Festival features Psycroptic, Lo!, Misery, Astrodeath, Crypt, Bulletbelt, Potion, Bloody Tyrant and more. Last month, the first psychedelic therapy treatment came before the Food and Drug Administration for a vote. It entailed using MDMA, also known as ecstasy or molly, to treat PTSD.MDMA therapy has looked promising as a treatment for PTSD and other mental health conditions in some studies. But the FDA scientific advisory panel that evaluated this treatment voted overwhelmingly against approving it.Many of the arguments against approval had less to do with MDMA itself than with the methodology of the clinical trials done by Lykos Therapeutics, formerly the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies, or MAPS. The FDA panel was presented with allegations of misconduct and incongruous data, including a letter by trial participant Sarah McNamee.McNamee, who joined the trial for treatment of PTSD, is also a licensed psychotherapist and researcher of trauma and psychotherapy at McGill University in Montreal. She joins guest host Rachel Feltman alongside Dr. Eiko Fried, a methodologist and psychologist at Leiden University in the Netherlands, to discuss the decision. If you or someone you know is struggling with PTSD or other mental health conditions, call 988 for the suicide and crisis lifeline.Transcripts for each segment will be available after the show airs on sciencefriday.com. I can't help but love it when some people f*ck with authority, especially when they are on the right side of history. Prof. David Nutt is one of those people. David is currently the Edmond J. Safra Professor of Neuropsychopharmacology and director of the Neuropsychopharmacology Unit in the Division of Brain Sciences. He is also the Chair of DrugScience (formally the Independent Scientific Committee on Drugs (ISCD)) and President of the European Brain Council. But he's probably best known for up-ending everything we were taught about drugs in high school after he authored a study published in the Lancet that showed, through a multi-criteria analysis, that things like cannabis, psilocybin and LSD weren't nearly as harmful to people as was our then (and still, frankly) vice, alcohol. And we should all be grateful he did because in many ways that was a pivotal moment for the psychedelic renaissance and the start of a healthy reexamination of psychoactive compounds in our society. His recent book, Psychedelics: The Revolutionary Drugs That Could Change Your Life - a Guide From the Expert, was published in June 2023 and is now available for pre-order in Canada and the US. You can chant the full mantra formally, seated at your altar, and then keep Hari (or Hari Bol) going ALL DAY (and night). You'll see :) 'Hari' means 'the remover of illusion' and it is said that when one repeats It, sins, karmas , pain and suffering are removed. Hari or Hare is also known as the energy of God, the Love, the Bliss (Ananda). You're directing your attention to the Bliss that's here, and holding your attention (t)here with the chanting practice, until there's no you, no practice, just Bliss.  Look at the peacock on the Cross of San Damiano (the Icon of Jesus that looked up and spoke to St. Francis of Assisi and told him to re-build his church). It's on the right side of His legs. Also notice the tilak on Jesus' forehead. Apparently, many early Christians also wore forehead markings that look strikingly similar to a tilak and many icons were made with these markings-- even the other High Beings in the imagery of the Cross have them. I saw the real San Damiano Cross up close while in Assisi, Italy. It stopped me in my tracks.  Anandamayi Ma books- Death Must Die Mother Reveals Herself  राम राम राम राम राम राम राम राम राम राम राम To claim your free gift, leave a review on Apple Podcasts, screenshot it and send it to me at nikki@curlynikki.com!  Join us on Patreon to support the show, and tune into and participate in live video Q&As with me!  Support the show राम राम राम राम राम राम राम राम राम राम राम "Lord help me to live in Your Love and Forgiveness towards me and teach me how to extend it towards others today." -@therealsweetspot  "Back of all devices, back of all forms, stands that which is without form, that which needs no device; that which is without beginning or ending - Life. Kate Wolf speaks with the writer and scholar McKenzie Wark about her latest book, Raving. Raving beckons readers onto the dance floors of underground parties in New York, combining Wark's own vivid experience of these spaces with her theories of the rave itself. Wark considers the rave's potential for a break in linear time, and its offering of a different mode of self-embodiment or self-abandon; its condition as a communion place for a variety of queer and trans bodies; its array of substances; and of course, its techno soundtrack. In the book's six essays Wark moves seamlessly from autofiction to reportage to cultural critique, and invites the voices of other ravers along for the ride. Also, Malcolm Harris, author of Palo Alto: A History of California, Capitalism, and the World, returns once again to recommend Antony Loewenstein's The Palestine Laboratory.

This week, we are welcoming guest Phil English, Galdramaður, Diviner, and Thelemite to come onto the podcast and chat about the poetic and primordial power of working and expressing the Runes. We chat poetry, singing, enchanting, and the importance of cultivating right relations with the mythopoetic narratives inside us. Certainly a treat for anyone interested in the history of ancient traditions, and more so in, the way we weave stories and songs of the dead and living in syncopations of unity and frenzied sound, a co-creation with all around us. What are the Runes? Who is Odin? Why is it so hard to reconstruct a firm proof of praxis for a people whose histories and myth interpretations have been destroyed and forgotten? Why might it be better to engage in these myths as living narratives, instead of historiographical proof of such-and-such a thing? How can we stay tethered when traversing liminal spaces? What are some of the mysteries of enchantment and disenchantment? And most importantly, why is it so necessary to ground ourselves in the reality of histories of oppression as tactics to keep ourselves ethical and humble in our magic practice? All this and more, on today's episode of SaturnVox. Don't forget to check out the Patreon Exclusive Episode which features Phil telling his own mythopoetic understandings of a few runes, as well as, a bit more commentary on weaving narratives of poetry and power in our magic practice. Spiritual teacher and mindfulness guru Dayanand shares gems of wisdom gleaned from his path to enlightenment in part 2 of the conversation. For those seeking spiritual growth, this unconventional monk encourages intentional practices that cultivate stillness, especially in cultures that value speed and distraction. Practicing stillness is like a muscle. It takes time and dedication to bring about lasting change. When we bring ourselves fully into each present moment, we come face to face with the unconditional and abundant love that lives within us all. Breath work is one of the best ways to practice stillness. By connecting the mind, heart, and body through regular meditation, we are able to become the observer of our lives. When we can observe our thoughts and feelings without attachment, we allow the energy to flow in whichever direction it chooses. Letting go of our need for control, negative emotions can easily dissolve instead of getting stuck in our overidentification with them. This brings a deep sense of freedom for those who can practice finding stasis amidst an ever-changing landscape of internal and external influences. Main Topics Dayanand's transformation brought about by accepting his pain (01:45) Dayanand leads Oakley and listeners in a short, simple breath practice (04:28) Stillness helps us feel rooted even in chaos (08:43) The Paradox of Change (12:48) The benefits of practicing mindfulness regularly (15:00) Dayanand's definition of love (18:15) Heart expansion meditation (22:23) How Oakley changed her family relationships with consistency and love (26:34) Letting go of attachments to experience ultimate freedom (30:00) Dayanand's advice to his younger self (33:03)  Want to learn more or apply to be a guest on Sex, Drugs and Enlightenment?Check out the website!https://www.sexdrugsandenlightenment.comConnect with Dayanand:https://shiviticenter.com/https://www.instagram.com/shiviti_yoga/https://www.facebook.com/dayananda.brahmachariConnect with Oakley:https://oakleyogden.comhttps://www.instagram.com/oakleyogden/https://www.linkedin.com/in/oakley-ogden-7a86b112/https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxn6BnlaAAK_i9utOIg2KOQListen, rate, and subscribe!
