Elmore's story is that of a man who believed, with uncommon boldness, that he and other Black Americans were guaranteed the right to vote. He volunteered to become the plaintiff in the NAACP lawsuit that successfully challenged the all-white Democratic primary in South Carolina in 1946.Carolyn centers her story on Elmore, his family, his neighbors, and the activists and lawyers who filed the suit. Gaelin Elmore entered the foster care system at five months old. He would spend time in twenty foster homes and DCS would remain a part of his life until he was 13 years old. Until he went to college, Gaelin faced constant instability, abuse, neglect, and homelessness. Malindi Elmore is a Canadian runner and three-time Olympian. She raced the 1500 in Athens 2004, and the Marathon in Tokyo 2021 and Paris 2024, finishing in the top-ten (ninth) in Tokyo. In between her middle-distance and marathon careers, she also raced as a professional triathlete from 2015 to 2017, including six podiums in IM70.3 and Ironman races. As a child, Gaelin was very much a part of the foster system, but his experience, while inspiring because of how he overcame such challenges, was not a happy one. A Stanford graduate, she first competed in the 1500 meters at the 2004 Athens Olympics, and then made a remarkable transition to the marathon—placing 9th at the 2021 Tokyo Games and representing Canada again in Paris last summer, a full 20 years after her Olympic debut! At nearly 45 years of age and living in Kelowna, BC, with her husband, Graham, and their two young boys, Malindi continues to train and compete at the highest level while coaching athletes and winning national titles.Leanne was first on the show in the fall of 2023, where we talked about navigating injuries with grace. As a sub-elite distance runner, she's faced her fair share of setbacks, which led her and Malindi to take a fresh approach to her Houston Marathon buildup. Instead of prioritizing high mileage and grueling long runs, they focused on a less-is-more strategy—emphasizing smart training, recovery, and strength work. The results were nothing short of incredible. Leanne not only felt stronger than ever in training, but she also took a massive two minutes off her personal best, running 2:40:52 in tough weather conditions. As endurance athletes, we often fall into the trap of thinking more is always better—but what if real breakthroughs happen by training smarter, not harder? This episode has a history that winds like a West Texas border road.  My guests are the Brothers Elmore, and we originally recorded it in April but one of the tracks went bad.  So finally at the end of our collective academic semesters, we once again discussed No Country for Old Men, speculating about its origins, its commentary on neo-liberalism, the film adaptation, and how some critics tried to read the author through the novel.  Twin brothers, the Elmores collaborate on their work on McCarthy.  Jonathan Elmore is Associate Professor of English at Louisiana Tech University and the Managing Editor of Watchung Review.. He is the editor of Fiction and the Sixth Mass Extinction: Narrative in an Era of Loss (Lexington) and co-author of An Introduction to African and Afro-Diasporic Peoples and Influences in British Literature and Culture before the Industrial Revolution (ALG). Karen Elmore is living in denial(s).     Her job as Senior Clinical Documentation Quality Coordinator for BJC Healthcare involves a daily battle against a never-ending tide: Payers denying diagnoses on the perceived basis of lack of clinical support. But who on earth has suggested that the hurricane wasn't real? The only thing the Biden Administration has specifically labeled as “disinformation” is the claim that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) used a portion of its funding to relocate undocumented migrants domestically—which did occur, according to FEMA's own website. Is the Biden Administration preparing to use this natural disaster as an excuse to censor speech online? 3:30pm- Tim Murtaugh—Columnist for The Washington Times & Senior Advisor to the Trump 2024 Campaign—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss Donald Trump's campaign rallies in Scranton and Reading, Pennsylvania on Wednesday. If the election were held today, would Trump win PA? It certainly seems like it because the state's “electorate is much more Republican than it was in 2020.” 4:00pm- Democrats Hit the Panic Button.
