In LIVES LAID AWAY, Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents are harassing residents of Snow’s neighborhood, Mexicantown. When Snow, who is half black and half Mexican, is asked for help in identifying a young Hispanic woman dredged from the Detroit River, he discovers a trafficking scheme preying on undocumented immigrant women. From there Snow sets out guns a blazing to destroy the trafficking ring with or without the help of government authorities. In our interview, Jones shared how his anger with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement treatment of immigrants fueled the plot of his novel.
