We're revisiting one of our favorite episodes today—host Jessie Sheehan's interview with Paola Velez, pastry chef and co-founder of Bakers Against Racism, the global bake sale that raised over $2.5 million for social justice causes. She's also the author of “Bodega Bakes: Recipes for Sweets and Treats Inspired by My Corner Store.”Paola joins host Jessie Sheehan to talk all about her book, which she describes as a love letter to both her Dominican heritage and her New York City roots. She shares stories about her childhood growing up in the Bronx, visiting her local bodega and the Stella D'oro factory, and how her mom's love for Guy Fieri inspired her plantain sticky buns. Then, the duo walk through Paola's recipe for the buns, which she has become quite known for. Click here for Paola's Plantain Sticky Buns recipe. To get our new Love Issue, click here. This week we unplug to reconnect: Gen Z is ghosting smartphones in favor of MP3 players, flip phones, and digital cameras—because what's old is suddenly minimalist chic. Then, we meet the real gatekeepers of New York convenience stores: Bodega Cats. Plus, a woman in Pennsylvania accidentally gives away her $2.5 million lottery ticket—stuffed in a jacket donated to charity. And finally, we celebrate the man behind Barbie, Hot Wheels, and an empire of plastic dreams—Elliott Handler, founder of Mattel, is our Business Birthday. We're all business. Except when we're not. MacKenzie Chung Fegan is the restaurant critic for the San Francisco Chronicle, which has just released its top 100 restaurants list. It's the first time in six years the publication has done a big list like this, and in this episode, MacKenzie goes over how she chose the restaurants and why the Bay Area food scene is absolutely on fire. We go over many of the picks, including the top ten. Also on the episode, Aliza and Matt talk about a recent trip to San Francisco and a number of exciting restaurant discoveries. Some of the places were on the Chronicle's list, while others may have slid under the radar. Matt visited bakeries and coffee spots and had a number of memorable meals. Places visited include: Bodega, Neighbor's Corner, The Coffee Movement, Hi NRG, El Mil Amores, Che Fico, Outerlands, Aziza, Maison Nico, Timbri Hotel.Do you enjoy This Is TASTE? There's no debating that Michael Jordan has the best signature sneaker line ever in the Air Jordans, but who comes next? How close is Penny Hardaway to the top tier of signature shoes with designs like the Foamposite? And where do Bo Jackson and Ken Griffey's shoes stack up? Does Carmelo Anthony deserve a spot in the tier list? Co-hosts Joe La Puma, Brendan Dunne, and Matt Welty put together a tier-list ranking of all-time Nike signature lines in this episode. Also, an update on the Air Max 95 “Neon” rollout, news about Bodega's struggles, and a narrowly avoided April Fools' prank. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Hoka x Bodega : collab stylée, semelle Vibram.New Balance Tokyo Design Studio : encore du Vibram. Our Legacy, Asics, Moncler, Merrell... toutes utilisent Vibram. In this episode of The Cocktail Guru Show, Jeffrey Pogash and Jonathan Pogash, had the pleasure of diving deep into the world of wine with a very special guest, Manuel Lozada, CEO of Viña Almaviva. They began by reminiscing about Jeffrey's early career in the wine industry, including his transformative experience in Paris where he met Jonathan's mother and developed a lifelong passion for wine.Manuel Lozada shared his fascinating journey in the wine industry, starting from his early exposure to wine at the age of five, thanks to his grandfather. He recounted his diverse experiences across the globe, from Portugal to Argentina, and eventually to Chile, where he now oversees the production of some of the world's finest wines at Almaviva. The three discussed the unique qualities of Almaviva wines, the blend of French savoir-faire with Chilean terroir, and the meticulous process involved in creating these exceptional wines. Manuel also highlighted the importance of precision and humility in wine making, emphasizing that each vintage has its own character shaped by subtle climatic variations. The conversation was deeply personal and filled with mutual respect and admiration. Manuel's passion for wine making was evident as he described the creative process and the joy of sharing wine with others. We also touched on the differences between the wine and spirits industries, noting the unique life and evolution of wine in the bottle.Overall, this episode was a heartfelt exploration of the art and passion behind wine making, enriched by the long-standing friendship between my father and Manuel. We hope our listeners enjoyed this intimate look into the world of wine and the stories behind some of its most dedicated artisans.
