Anfang März war ich im Stellantis Headquarter in Rüsselsheim und habe mit Luigi Saia, Brand Director Jeep Germany, über ein Jahr gesprochen, das für die Marke klar als Umbruch einzuordnen ist. 2025 war für Jeep in Deutschland kein klassisches Elektro-Jahr, sondern vor allem ein Übergangsjahr: Der alte Compass lief aus, die neue Generation kam verzögert – dazwischen entstand eine spürbare Lücke. Trotzdem gelang es, das Händlernetz zu stabilisieren und das Volumen um 16 Prozent zu steigern – bewusst ohne zusätzliche Vermietergeschäfte. Beim Thema Elektromobilität zeigt sich ein differenziertes Bild. Zwar hatten 71,7 Prozent der Neuzulassungen einen alternativen Antrieb, doch der reine Elektro-Anteil lag bei nur 3,8 Prozent. Das war kein Zufall, sondern eine bewusste Entscheidung. Jeep wollte BEV nicht „um jeden Preis“ in den Markt drücken, sondern wirtschaftlich sauber agieren. Der zentrale Hebel für 2026 ist der neue Jeep Compass auf STLA-Medium-Plattform. Er ist Volumenträger im wichtigen C-SUV-Segment und soll den Elektro-Anteil deutlich steigern. Jeep hält sich beim Antriebsmix flexibel – Mildhybrid, Plug-in-Hybrid oder rein elektrisch, je nach Nachfrage. Ziel für Deutschland: 15 bis 20 Prozent Elektro-Anteil, perspektivisch sogar bis zu 25 Prozent. Der Auftragseingang im Februar mit 25 Prozent rein elektrisch zeigt, dass Bewegung im Markt ist. Parallel wird das Portfolio in Europa neu sortiert. Wrangler und Grand Cherokee entfallen aufgrund regulatorischer Rahmenbedingungen. Mit dem rein elektrischen Wagoneer S und dem kommenden Recon will Jeep seine Offroad-DNA ins Elektrozeitalter übertragen. Produktionstechnisch wäre Melfi in der Lage, stark auf Elektro zu skalieren – entscheidend bleibt jedoch die europäische Nachfrage. Für 2026 steht damit ein klarer Plan: Marktanteil wieder auf 0,5 Prozent steigern und den Elektro-Anteil spürbar ausbauen. Jeep setzt nicht auf einen radikalen Schnitt, sondern auf einen kontrollierten Transformationskurs – flexibel, markentreu und mit klaren Zielmarken. Und damit steigen wir direkt in das Gespräch ein.

Brad Adcox joined the Building HVAC Science podcast with Bill and Eric and, within minutes, earned the unofficial title "donkey wrangler" after sharing a story about his donkey. He's worried the industry is headed for a knowledge cliff as experienced wholesalers, reps, and counter people retire without passing down relationships or practical know-how. He also sees a drift toward "parts changers" and automated, text-only customer interactions that reduce real human connection. In his local classes, he pushes techs to slow down just enough to add value: communicate like a neighbor, do a fuller system check while you're already there, explain what you looked at, and offer small, memorable extras. He's also blunt about wholesale basics: greet people when they walk in, be willing to say "I don't know, but I'll find out," and stop hiding behind "that's just Facebook" when customer sentiment is being broadcast publicly. Season 6, EPISODE 277 Dry Creek Ranch: Passion For Red Angus Dry Creek Ranch in Amidon, North Dakota, is a family-run Red Angus cattle operation that focuses on raising registered and commercial cattle, selling breeding bulls, and offering ranch-raised beef directly to customers. The ranch is operated by the Robison family and emphasizes practical, efficient cattle genetics and long-term herd improvement, with activities that include private-treaty sales and ranch-direct beef marketing. It's part of the western North Dakota ranching tradition, combining working-ranch livestock production with a direct connection to consumers and other cattle producers in the region. Current State Of The Beef Business Beef prices are climbing faster than almost anything else in the consumer price index. The broad beef and veal category is up 15 percent over the past year, as of January. Uncooked ground beef has hit a new record high, after posting its biggest jump since June of 2020, according to new government data released last Friday. That stands out against the rest of the grocery aisle, where price pressures have eased. Chicken prices rose just over 1 percent in the past year, while milk prices have stayed mostly flat. At the wholesale level, the average value of choice beef in 2025 was up 16 percent from the previous year, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Even major meatpackers like Tyson Foods are feeling the strain, with the company's beef division reporting quarterly losses since early 2024. The surge in beef prices has pushed the White House to respond. President Donald Trump has pledged to increase competition in beef processing and has expanded Argentine beef import quotas in an attempt to boost supply. But the situation is more complicated. The U.S. cattle herd has fallen to its smallest level since the early 1950's. Drought, higher production costs, and elevated interest rates have all made raising cattle more expensive. Don Close, a senior animal protein analyst at Terrain Ag, says the cattle industry is cyclical, but this downturn has lasted longer than expected. Right now, ranchers can make more money selling animals young for slaughter than keeping them to rebuild herds. And even if herd expansion started today, it wouldn't reach grocery store shelves until at least 2028 — meaning beef prices could stay high for years. Meanwhile, the U.S. has halted shipments of live cattle from Mexico following the return of the New World screwworm. Imports from South America may provide some relief, but those supplies are mostly used for ground beef and won't quickly solve the broader cattle shortage. Industry Associations React To Beef Imported From Argentina President Trump issued a proclamation titled “Ensuring Affordable Beef for the American Consumer,” increasing the in-quota import of lean beef trimmings from Argentina by 80,000 metric tons in 2026 to help lower ground beef prices. U.S. Cattlemen's Association (USCA) President Justin Tupper said the group has been engaged with the Administration since expanded imports were first proposed in October 2025. While USCA supports efforts to stabilize supply, Tupper emphasized that a strong domestic cattle industry is essential and warned that trade agreements must not undermine U.S. producers or supply integrity. Tupper expressed concern over the scale and origin of the imports, noting Argentina faces tight cattle supplies similar to the U.S. He said the roughly 400% increase should be treated as a one-time exception, not a precedent, and urged stronger rules of origin and labeling so consumers know where their beef comes from. R-CALF echoed these concerns, stating that past increases in beef imports from countries such as Argentina and Brazil failed to reduce consumer prices. Instead, they correlated with a shrinking U.S. cattle herd, fewer domestic producers, and ultimately higher beef prices. From Crisis to Opportunity When the Wrangler plant closed its doors in Page County over two decades ago, the community faced a crossroads. However, what could have been a devastating blow instead became the catalyst for educational transformation. Dr. Kim Blosser, President of Laurel Ridge Community College, talks with Janet Michael on The Valley Today to reflect on how the Luray-Page County Center has spent 20 years opening doors for students who once had limited access to higher education. Geography as Destiny Before the center opened, Page County students faced a challenging reality. Located in a valley surrounded by mountains, they endured 45-minute to 90-minute commutes to reach the nearest Laurel Ridge campuses in Middletown or Warrenton. Consequently, many students simply gave up on their educational dreams or opted for Blue Ridge Community College in Harrisonburg, which offered an easier drive without crossing mountain passes. "Students in that county had to go the furthest from any other of our localities," Dr. Blosser explains. This geographic isolation meant that Page County residents were effectively cut off from the educational opportunities available to their neighbors in other parts of the Laurel Ridge service area. A Community Rallies Fortunately, local leaders recognized the urgent need for change. When the Wrangler plant closed, the town of Luray acquired the annex building. Together, the county and town invested in renovating part of the facility, offering the college space for minimal rent. This partnership created not only a retraining center for displaced workers but also a permanent educational presence in the community. The impact proved immediate and profound. Federal Trade Act funding helped former Wrangler employees pursue new careers through education. Dr. Blosser shares the touching story of Cindy, a former plant worker who earned her associate's degree and spent her entire second career working at the Luray-Page Center—until her recent retirement after nearly 20 years of service. Meanwhile, another former employee went on to become an elementary school teacher, demonstrating how access to education can completely transform lives. Outgrowing the Original Vision As the years passed, however, the old Wrangler annex building began showing its limitations. While the space worked well for traditional classroom subjects like English and history, it couldn't accommodate science labs, electrical training, or HVAC programs. Moreover, the aging facility required increasingly costly repairs, and the town no longer owned the building—a private company did. "Our students deserved better," Dr. Blosser recalls thinking. The college began searching for alternatives, examining various existing buildings throughout the county. Yet each option presented similar challenges: they were outdated structures requiring extensive renovation with uncertain outcomes. Building a Dream Then came a breakthrough. The Jenkins family stepped forward with an extraordinary offer: they would donate land for a new campus. Located behind Walmart in a central, easily accessible location, the site seemed perfect. What followed was nothing short of remarkable. The Laurel Ridge Educational Foundation launched an ambitious fundraising campaign, ultimately raising over $4 million from Page County residents and businesses. "They were just desperate not to lose the college," Dr. Blosser notes. "They know it's the heart of economic development." Despite supply chain challenges during the pandemic—including having to switch brick suppliers mid-construction—the project moved forward with impressive speed. A Campus for the Future Today, Jenkins Hall stands as a testament to community vision and determination. Unlike traditional institutional buildings, the facility features warm wood beams, open ceilings, and panoramic mountain views. The design intentionally creates a welcoming atmosphere that reflects the natural beauty of Page County. The first floor houses specialized labs that were impossible in the old location. Students now learn electrical work, HVAC systems, and heavy equipment operation in a dedicated trades lab. Across the hall, a modern science lab enables anatomy and physiology courses—essential prerequisites for health profession programs. Additionally, the building serves as home to the region's only Physical Therapy Assisting program, drawing students from an hour and a half radius. Upstairs, the design becomes even more innovative. Three classrooms feature soundproof movable walls that collapse to create one large space accommodating up to 100 people. This flexibility allows the center to host dual enrollment graduations, chamber of commerce job fairs, and corporate meetings—addressing a critical shortage of community gathering spaces in Page County. More Than Just Classrooms Throughout our conversation, Dr. Blosser emphasizes that Laurel Ridge operates as a "comprehensive community college." This means serving everyone from adult basic education students to those pursuing the first two years of a bachelor's degree. The college offers GED preparation, English as a Second Language classes, short-term workforce training, corporate education, and traditional transfer programs. "We can serve as many as 20,000 individuals in a year," Dr. Blosser reveals. Furthermore, approximately 50 percent of transfer program classes now offer online options, providing crucial flexibility for working adults and parents. While hands-on programs like welding and phlebotomy require in-person attendance, students can increasingly customize their schedules by mixing on-campus and online coursework. The Door to Tomorrow Perhaps the most intriguing detail about Jenkins Hall involves a door on the first floor that appears to lead nowhere. However, Dr. Blosser eagerly points it out on every tour she gives. The architectural plans show this door will eventually connect via a breezeway to a second building—one that doesn't exist yet. "That door doesn't go nowhere," she insists with a smile. "There is something beyond that building. We just have to wait, and when that moment arrives, be ready to move." This forward-thinking approach reflects the same vision that transformed a closed factory into an educational hub two decades ago. As Page County continues growing—with new townhomes and developments surrounding what was once an isolated field behind Walmart—the college stands ready to expand its mission once again. Looking Ahead While Dr. Blosser modestly suggests she'll likely retire before the center's 40th anniversary, she remains confident about continued growth. The rapid changes of the past 20 years—from distance learning via Old Dominion University in a small computer room to today's sophisticated online platforms—hint at even more dramatic transformations ahead. For now, the Luray-Page County Center continues fulfilling its founding mission: ensuring that geography no longer determines educational destiny. Whether students seek workforce credentials, transfer degrees, or personal enrichment, they can find opportunities right in their own community. After 20 years, that door the Jenkins family helped open remains wide, welcoming anyone ready to walk through and discover what lies beyond.

I met today's guest back in September when we were both speaking at an event in Cartersville, Georgia. After hearing him speak, I knew I wanted him on the show. His name is Blake Hamby. Blake says, he has always had a passion for hunting. He attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College for a year in 2008 as a Wildlife Management major. After that, he worked as a Wrangler, guiding people on horseback at the 320 Guest Ranch in Big Sky, Montana for a couple of years. He then returned home and began guiding deer and hog hunts in Southern Illinois and South Alabama for a while, before deciding it was time to settle down and pursue a job that provided a living wage. After marrying his wife, they launched a small apparel line called Southern Longbeards. Together, they started and ran their local NWTF Chapter for six years. Currently, he works in Sales at Three Way Campers in Marietta, Georgia, a position he has held for nearly ten years. He and his family are also deeply involved in their small church in downtown Adairsville, Georgia. Additionally, he helps coach his sons in baseball and football. Blake is also a successful Out of State hunter. Traveling to several states to hunt and he shares with us some of his keys to success in doing so.
