On today's Daily Detroit, we start with big news for Detroit City FC fans and the future of Corktown. Jer and Norris recap their visit to the new Detroit City FC welcome center on Vernor and break down fresh details on AlumiFi Field, the club's planned new stadium next to Michigan Central. The opening date has officially slid to the 2028 season, and the guys explain why that's actually a smarter move given the complexity of the build, site cleanup, and surrounding development. They get into the latest renderings, from 14 traditional suites, 10 container suites, and pitch‑side boxes, to supporter sections staying proudly at midfield and design touches that lean into DCFC's identity and Detroit's skyline. Then, it's a look at a shifting nightlife landscape. The closure of UFO Bar's current concept in Corktown, the announced end of Spot Lite on the east side, and the original Fowling Warehouse in Hamtramck all spark a conversation about drinking habits, the economics of bars and clubs, and whether Detroit needs to "rewrite the contract" for going out. That leads into a bigger question: Should Detroit have a 24‑hour party district, and if so, where would it go?  Finally, we get into the CPA Building at Michigan and 14th hitting the market for $2.4 million, and what a smart redevelopment across from Michigan Central could look like. The crew also takes stock of the men's side, whose spring campaign has been a little up and down, but mostly up, as DCFC continues to battle through league play and cup competitions. The discussion also touches on Detroit City FC's first ever appearance at The Soccer Tournament (TST), what it means for the club, and why the event has become such an intriguing addition to the soccer calendar.Along the way there are tangents, distractions, questionable transitions, and at least a few moments that can generously be described as incoherent rambling. Also, if anyone happens to see Garret, please remind him to send over the Channel 4:51 YouTube password. Hey, soccer fans! The Chicago Fire - the winningest MLS team in US Open Cup history - advanced to the Round of 16 after a 2-1 victory over Detroit City FC. The Men in Red dominated the first half, and Jason Shokalook scored a brace in his first start for the Fire first team. However, a DCFC goal, a red card to Puso Dithejane, and a freight train all in the span of five minutes propelled the USL Championship side to nearly equalizing. In what was a chaotic second half, the Fire survive and advance to take on St. Louis City SC in the next round. Nick also previews the upcoming match against FC Cincinatti. He predicts a draw, but notes that both teams have lots of roster questions due to injuries and the defenses may be prone to lapses. Cincy will also be without key player Kevin Denkey, who will be serving a red card suspension. Can the Fire take advantage and extend their win streak to four matches? Some DC fast charging sites print money. Others quietly ruin portfolio-wide ROI. In this episode of In-Between Charges, Kevin and Mike sit down with Rohan Puri, CEO & Co-Founder of Stable Auto, to unpack why. Stable Auto works with many of the largest American CPOs and investors to predict utilization, pick winning locations, and set smarter prices for DC fast charging networks. Rohan shares how he went from building robotic charging arms for autonomous fleets to running a software company that underwrites the profitability of EV charging assets.Together, they dig into what actually drives DCFC performance: traffic patterns, EV penetration, trip distances, amenities, competition, hardware choices, and even how many ports is the right amount for a site. They talk about why “put it near a highway and a gas station” is often wrong, why co-locating with competitors can increase your utilization, how to think in IRR and margin instead of just kWh per port per day, and where dynamic pricing and energy arbitrage could unlock new revenue streams. If you're a CPO, retailer, investor, or just trying to understand why some sites thrive while others bleed cash, this episode goes straight to the core of DC fast charging economics.

Wake Up Tri-Counties Johanna Hager Talks Neurofeedback Therapy in Kewanee

Illinois News Now

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 25, 2025 9:59

Johanna Hager, DCFC, LCPC, FAPA, DCFI, CCFIT, joined Wake Up Tri-Counties to discuss Othmer Method Neurofeedback therapy and the equipment used to assist with talk therapy. About 25 years ago, Sue Othmer, a pioneer in neurofeedback, diverged from the standard practice by allowing the brain to guide its own process, rather than relying on statistical norms. Her approach, now known as the Othmer method, involves adjusting the ‘reward' frequencies based on individual client responses—tracking symptoms like fatigue, headaches, or improvement. This real-time feedback eliminates the need for expensive brain maps and often produces quicker, more comprehensive results. While many found success with this method, it hasn't gained universal acceptance, as most practitioners continue to use traditional neurofeedback assessment strategies. Interest in brain waves has dramatically grown since Hans Berger discovered electrical brain activity in the 1920s. Researchers now focus on how different mental states and brain diseases correlate with these electrical signals. Neurofeedback, an emerging area of biofeedback, allows individuals to target and modify their brain waves directly. By monitoring brain activity through sensors, users receive real-time feedback—often in the form of sounds or visual cues—to train their minds toward healthier patterns. This approach is being investigated as a potential treatment for disorders such as ADHD, anxiety, and epilepsy, offering new hope for non-invasive interventions. A pioneering shift in neurofeedback therapy is drawing attention as researchers embrace infra-low frequency (ILF) techniques. Originating around 12 years ago, Carl Shames and Sue Othmer were at the forefront, experimenting with frequencies lower than ever before, measured in millihertz rather than hertz. Contrary to expectations, these ultra-low frequencies produced quicker and more widespread benefits, with patients often noticing effects immediately after their first session. The Othmer Institute has reported a dramatic reduction in the average number of required sessions. The ILF approach is making neurofeedback more effective and increasingly accessible, offering hope for those seeking affordable brain training options. Researchers at the Othmer Institute have achieved remarkable breakthroughs using ultra-low frequency brain training. By working at frequencies measured in millihertz, between 0.01 and 0.1 Hz, participants reported rapid improvements in just their first session, feeling calm or tired almost immediately. Follow-up accounts after a second session included notable behavioral and cognitive changes. The overall number of sessions required has dropped dramatically, with many individuals experiencing core benefits in just 6-8 visits. This development has not only made neurofeedback faster and more effective but also far more affordable, paving the way for broader, more accessible mental health support. Johanna Hager is a member of the American Psychological Association and a certified trauma specialist. She recently moved into private practice and is working to get her new office fully established. The equipment and software are available at Bee Medic. Find more information on the equipment and software for ILF Neurofeedback here. There are webinars available if you would like to learn more about neurofeedback from Bee Medic. Johanna has been a therapist for about 35 years and has treated people of all ages and psychological needs. Johanna has experienced great success using neurofeedback. Neurofeedback is a tool used in conjunction with talk therapy, which allows the brain to slow down and relax, helping the patient break down the walls to heal. You can call or text 309-489-2195 with any questions or to ask what she still needs for her office. To make an appointment with Johanna Hager, call 309-489-2195 or book online. She has in-person and telehealth appointments, and most insurance is accepted through Alberto Minzer & Associates. Johanna Hager stands out as a leader in psychotherapy, providing hope and healing to those confronting trauma, mood disorders, chronic illness, and significant life changes. With more than three decades of practice, she personalizes every session, ensuring clients feel genuinely understood in a safe, supportive environment. Johanna employs innovative therapies, such as neurofeedback and EMDR, guiding individuals through recovery with empathy and expertise. Beyond the therapy room, she conducted forensic interviews and served as an expert witness, educating courts on trauma's impact throughout the area. Her commitment extends to mental health advocacy and community outreach, reflecting her dedication to nurturing strength and resilience in every client she meets.

Eight years ago, a 19 year old Jimmy Filerman had his first experience in the US Open Cup as a player for the South Florida Surf in USL League Two. A team of mostly amateur players in their schools' offseasons came together to face Miami FC, who at the time was spending big money to put together a competitive roster in the NASL with Manager Alessandro Nesta (of Italian National Team Fame). The team of kids tied the game in the 76' before Miami put the go-ahead goal away in the 80'. It was the type of game that makes this tournament so special. It gives young players the opportunity to test themselves against seasoned professionals. It puts David up against Goliath in a winner-take-all one match battle. It gives players that have given their youth to the game an experience they won't forget. Lastly, it is truly the only open thing that exists in our world of soccer with a closed pyramid. Jimmy would return back to Old Dominion for two more seasons after that and end his college career in 2019. Despite Covid doing its best to kill off parts of the fragile US Soccer Lower Leagues, he found a home in Detroit City in 2020 and 2021. He was part of those DCFC teams that completely dominated NISA. With Covid putting a pause on the Open Cup due to travel restrictions, there were no opportunities for him to play the tournament while playing for the club. But 2021 would take Filerman down to Greenville Triumph for his first experience playing in the professional ranks of USL. It was here that he'd see US Open Cup action for the second time. Greenville triumphed (dad joke) over Oakland Roots for a first round cupset and that set up a home game for them against MLS' Charlotte FC. The 4,000 person capacity stadium witnessed their 3rd Division squad take Charlotte to extra time where they eventually succumbed 2-1. “They subbed in guys like Christian Fuchs” says Jimmy on the pod. “Just being on the field with guys you grew up watching, and those big entities where you know how much money they're bringing in and how much money has gone into the roster is just different.” After a broken leg ended his time at Greenville, Jimmy joined up with the Maryland Bobcats in 2023 and was part of a roster that took down the Ocean City Nor'easters on a last second winner before succumbing on the road to the Pittsburgh Riverhounds on a cold, wet night along the Monongahela River. Fast forward to Jimmy in 2025 and a lot has changed. The 19 year old kid that admittedly loved him some College is now a 28 year old man that has had a lasting career in the 3rd and 4th divisions of the US Soccer Pyramid. A lot has happened in those eight years. Things have come full circle for Jimmy as he returned to the Open Cup as an amateur 8 years after being there with South Florida Surf. Jimmy linked back up with his DC United Academy running mate, Lucas Mendes, who is the creative force and visionary behind Virginia Dream FC. For those that do not know, the Dream have been quickly building up accommodates as one of the best Amateur sides in the country. The club won the NPSL Mid-Atlantic last year, the Spring and Fall 2024 UPSL Seasons, and the 2024 Virginia Super Soccer League. Then they qualified for the 2025 US Open Cup by beating Alexandria Reds and the Aegean Hawks FC of the United States Amateur Soccer Association (USASA). The Dream came into City Stadium with a chip on their shoulders. A squad full of players that had been there before and players that know they should still be there (special shout out to Elijah Amo who absolutely needs a call from a pro side…). After an 8' minute penalty kick was calmly slotted into the corner by former Bobcat Nicolas Likulia, it was clear Richmond was in for a fight from the pesky amateur side. After a banger from the Kickers' James Vaughn drew them equal in the 36', the Dream held on to head into the locker room at 1-1. After taking some abuse in front of their goal at the end of the first half, the Dream became the aggressors and put home two more goals. One from Suchecki in the 53' and another from former Bobcat Mike Akinkoye in the 61'. With the lead in hand and the armband on, Jimmy came alive and showed he still has what it takes to compete on this level. Making tackles and shouting instructions. The cupset was on. When the final whistle blew, it was the Dream marching on to the next round of the 2025 US Open Cup. On Wednesday, April 2nd, the Dream head to Segra Field to take on its next Goliath; the USL Championships' Loudoun United. While it will be another uphill battle, I wouldn't count them out.

Earlier today, global mining giant Fortescue announced plans to begin operations at its new Detroit factory with the production of HV marine batteries that will be used initially by EVOA to power a range of luxury marine vessels, wake boats, and tenders — and they've come to Quick Charge to tell us all about it! The Fortescue Zero division of the mining giant is opening its first North American Advanced Manufacturing Center in Detroit, next year — and we now know that its first product will be an advanced, high voltage marine battery built around the company's Scalable Battery Module (SBM) technology. "The Marine Battery Packs we have designed and will manufacture for EVOA in Detroit isjust the beginning of what is possible with the technology we have created," says Fortescue Energy CEO, Mark Hutchinson. "Our Scalable Battery Module product is flexible and adaptable for a range of products and markets. We've pushed innovation and engineering to the limit everywhere from racetracks to mine sites and now our customers get to see the benefits of our real-world experience and get a neat solution for their battery needs that helps minimize investment and risk in their design and development program." Fortescue describes the Marine Battery Pack being produced for EVOA as lightweight, high-performance products delivering 30kWh to 34kWh per pack, and as engineered to support EVOA's most powerful, 1,000+ hp powertrains. The company insists that fast-charging capabilities will be baked into the new batteries, with practical charge times projected at under 30 minutes to minimizedowntime attributed to charging. That charge time is conservative Massive Liebherr electric haul truck; via Fortescue. Claiming a 30 min. DCFC top-off time would have raised eyebrows just a few weeks ago — but last week's announcement that Fortescue was driving the technology behind massive, all electric heavy equipment solutions (like the Liebherr T264E rigid haul truck, above) with an all-new, mind-bendingly quick 6 MW DC fast charger that could charge this massive haul truck's 1,900 kWh battery in less than thirty minutes has changed all that. The game has simply changed, and there are already waterfront megawatt charging projects in play to support the notion that electric boats simply won't get stuck charging for extended periods of time. Fortescue's Marine Battery Pack solution can be configured as a multi-pack Power System, giving the flexibility to support small and larger vessels. We were lucky enough to have Fortescue's Chief Commercial Officer Andrew Carlisle join us on today's episode of Quick Charge to discuss Fortescue Zero, the company's major moves towards carbon neutrality, and more. In this re-released episode, we will chat with David Dwaihy who will share his ability to overcome anxiety by attacking it head-on. These lessons apply to life, the classroom, and the soccer pitch.  Dave Dwaihy was born in Detroit and raised in Grosse Pointe Woods. Dave attended Kalamazoo College, where he played soccer, studied math, and first met fellow DCFC owner, Sean Mann. Dave has taught math and coached soccer at University Liggett School since 2002. Dave oversees soccer operations for Le Rouge, a role in which he works primarily as a liaison between the coaching staff, players, and ownership group. Dave lives in Grosse Pointe Woods with his wife and their two young children. Nicknamed “The Touch” by DCFC supporters, Dwaihy is the only owner (to date) to suit up for both DCFL and DCFC.  A midfielder for Le Rouge, he pretty much played wherever he wanted and scored whenever he wanted as a member of Hubbard Farms in their inaugural season.  If you enjoyed this episode, don't forget to subscribe and follow Temple Israel on social media to stay up to date on Waking Up To Life.    Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/templeisraelmi  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/templeisraelmi/  YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLn9spWvsCBvcQ-o5XLeFLHKcLoj2nBAfM  Web: https://www.temple-israel.org/wakinguptolifepod

The Detroit Tigers may not be able to coast with a .500 record and win the American League Central as the Cleveland Guardians are showing to be a stronger team, so the Tigers will have to step up with their bats.
