Everyone wants custom marketing until the numbers stop making sense. When preference beats performance, something always gives. The real question isn't creativity vs. control, it's predictability vs. ego.Welcome to Gym Marketing Made Simple, the podcast built to cut through the noise around gym growth. Each conversation breaks marketing, sales, and leadership into practical systems boutique gyms can apply without relying on luck, burnout, or outdated playbooks.Episode HighlightsPredictable results don't come from personal preference; they come from proof. This breakdown focuses on why tested systems outperform custom ideas, how data removes guesswork from marketing decisions, and where flexibility actually belongs. It also clarifies what strong partnerships look like when both sides care more about outcomes than opinions.Episode OutlineWhy generating a specific ROI matters more than creative preferences. What gym owners actually want from a long-term marketing partner.A real-world case study of a gym owner who outgrew short-term agencies. How high-volume testing creates faster, clearer marketing insights. The trade-offs between custom creative and proven marketing systems. Why predictable outcomes require data-backed offers, copy, and assets. How agencies balance flexibility without sacrificing performance. The role of accountability in data-driven marketing decisions.Episode Chapters00:00 Intro00:07 Strategic Marketing Partnership for Gym Owners02:41 The Role of Lasso as a Marketing Agency03:21 Challenges with Personalization and Customization07:29 The Importance of Data-Driven Decisions12:23 The Role of Lasso in Guiding ClientsAction TakenClearly communicate ROI expectations and the risks of testing unproven creative.Confirm whether clients are willing to accept lower performance for preference-based decisions.Implement offers, copy, and ad assets backed by large-scale testing.Match marketing strategies to each gym's business model.Allow creative testing only when ad budgets support experimentation.Keep proven campaigns running to protect performance while testing.ConclusionThe real takeaway here is simple: marketing works best when decisions are earned, not assumed. Creativity still matters, but only when it's supported by evidence. When gyms and agencies align on expectations, trust the data, and stay disciplined with what's proven, clarity replaces confusion, and results become easier to repeat.CTAIf this conversation resonated, follow Gym Marketing Made Simple and share the episode with a gym owner who's questioning whether their marketing is actually working.Supporting Information

In this episode of Between Product and Partnerships, Cristina Flaschen speaks with Mike Gelber, Chief Product Officer at Impiricus, about his career path and the experiences that shaped his approach to product leadership in healthcare. Mike's background spans finance, ad tech, and healthcare, and his move into product reflects a steady pull toward roles that combine technical depth with proximity to real users. Throughout the conversation, he shares how those experiences influenced the way he approaches product decisions, partnerships, and growth in a regulated environment. From Finance to Product ThinkingMike began his career at JP Morgan, where he quickly gravitated toward building tools that made work more efficient. Teaching himself to automate tasks introduced him to software development and revealed the leverage technology could provide. That curiosity led him into ad tech, where working closely with customers helped him connect system design with real usage. Over time, product became the natural intersection between building technology and understanding how people actually work. Why Founding a Company Accelerated His GrowthStarting a company brought Mike closer to customers and everyday decision-making. Choices carried immediate consequences, which sharpened his sense of focus and sequencing. The experience also exposed him to areas of the business that are often distant from product roles, shaping a broader understanding of how products are built, sold, and sustained over time.Lessons from Building and Exiting LassoMike reflects on building Lasso and guiding it through growth before its acquisition by IQVIA. A defining lesson from that journey was the importance of validating demand early. Proving value through direct execution helped guide product direction and informed how he now thinks about product-market fit. That experience reinforced the importance of grounding decisions in real usage rather than assumptions.Joining ImpiricusAfter the acquisition, Mike joined Impiricus as Chief Product Officer. He initially questioned whether SMS could be an effective channel in healthcare. Spending time with the product in real-world settings changed that perspective, particularly as he observed how clinicians interacted with it during day-to-day work. Those experiences helped clarify the product's role in supporting healthcare providers.Defining Success in Healthcare ProductMike describes success at Impiricus through outcomes and experience. Pharmaceutical partners measure impact through prescribing behavior, while healthcare providers encounter fewer barriers when supporting patients. The most meaningful signals come from moments where the product quietly fits into existing workflows and reduces friction without drawing attention to itself.Timing, Integration, and RelevanceThe conversation returns often to timing. Mike explains how Impiricus uses data and integrations to engage healthcare providers when support is most relevant. This approach allows the product to fit naturally into clinical workflows, which is critical in environments where attention is limited.Looking AheadMike shares what's next for Impiricus, including the launch of a new product called Ascend and continued momentum following recognition on Deloitte's Fast 500 list. As the company grows, the focus remains on staying close to healthcare providers and maintaining the product principles that shaped its early success. Cristina closes the episode by reflecting on how Mike's journey illustrates how product leadership evolves inside regulated industries.

Something isn't adding up in most gyms because the real problem isn't the lack of leads. It's what happens after someone walks through the door. Revenue stalls. Growth flatlines. And owners think the answer is to “just run ads.”But what if the biggest leak is coming from the inside?Welcome to the Gym Marketing Made Simple Podcast, the place where real strategies replace guesswork. Blake Ruff and the team break down what actually moves the needle for boutique gyms trying to grow consistently and predictably.Episode HighlightsThis episode breaks down why so many gyms hit a revenue ceiling long before running paid marketing. Blake explains how churn, slow sales systems, and inconsistent follow-up stall growth—no matter how many leads come in. John talks about U.S District Judge Sarah Ellis ordering CBP honcho Greg Bovino to meet at her courthouse every day to report on immigration actions in greater Chicago. The ruling comes just a day after the Trump Administration quietly handed full control of immigration enforcement to CBP after ICE leadership fell short of deportation quotas. He also talks about the government shutdown. Dozens have states have sued the Trump Administration over the suspension of SNAP benefits which start on November 1st. Then, John speaks with Emmy winning journalist Dexter Thomas about his show - "Kill Switch" which is a tech podcast about living in the future today; a survival guide to modern culture; and a show that exposes the true systems listeners rely on daily - from AI and privacy, to the strange and absurd corners of the internet. Next, John interviews Renee Hopkins. She is CEO of the Alliance for Gun Responsibility, a non-profit organization dedicated to saving lives, developing a safer Washington state and supporting the legislation to make that happen. In her six years at the Alliance she has led the organization to become the leading state-based gun violence prevention organization in the country; passing three ballot initiatives, electing a gun violence prevention majority in the state legislature, working with systems partners to develop best practice models for implementing gun laws, and passing state laws that put Washington state at the forefront of suicide prevention and domestic violence laws as they relate to firearms. Renee has experienced the scourge of gun violence first-hand including the tragic loss of her brother Arnie in a school shooting in 1996. From handling rejection to understanding conversion rates, this conversation is all about following a proven process that works.Key TakeawaysLasso stands for Lead and Sales System Optimization, a structured approach to generating and converting leads.Warm leads often convert easily, but cold traffic requires patience and persistence.A realistic conversion rate from leads to sign-ups is 10–20% — and that's perfectly normal.Consistent follow-up and long-term nurturing are key to turning cold leads into paying members. The system works best when followed as designed — deviating from it reduces success rates.Having an open mind to change existing methods is essential for growth. The “fortune is in the follow-up” — success comes from consistency, not quick wins.Episode Chapters00:00 Intro00:10 Challenges of Cold Traffic vs. Warm Leads05:26 The Importance of Following the System09:11 Handling Lead Conversion and Rejection12:11 The Role of CRM and Long-Term Nurturing18:17 The Importance of Sales and Follow-Follow-Up19:48 Challenges of Cold Traffic and Emotional Reactions22:02 Common Mistakes and Misconceptions25:12 The Importance of Data and Proven MethodsCall to ActionIf this episode hits home, follow the podcast and share it with a fellow gym owner who's ready to grow the right way. Welcome to Dolly in My Pocket, tactic five. This time, I'm tackling something that either makes or breaks teams, culture, and performance: feedback.Let's be honest — most of us aren't doing it well. We either lobb it in with no care for the landing, loiter around it hoping people “get the hint”, or avoid it altogether because it's awkward and uncomfortable. But here's the truth: effective feedback is non-negotiable if you want to grow your team, your business, or yourself. In this episode, I unpack:Why feedback matters to your bottom lineThe three types of feedback styles: The Lob, The Loiter, and The LassoA cowboy-inspired metaphor you won't forget (and that will radically shift how you give feedback)A practical structure you can use straight away: The BID Model (Behaviour, Impact, Do Differently)If you want high-performing teams, more accountability, and a culture that thrives — not tolerates — this episode is essential.Reach out to explore coaching: info@dollywaddell.comMy book The extra-Ordinary Leader is available now: https://www.dollywaddell.com/store/p/the-extra-ordinary-leader

Growth stalls when gyms rely only on word of mouth. The real question is—how long can a gym survive without consistent new leads?Welcome to Gym Marketing Made Simple—the podcast that helps boutique fitness gyms attract clients and grow with straightforward marketing strategies that actually work.Episode HighlightsBlake and Tommy Allen from Lasso expose the myths around organic-only growth and break down why paid marketing is essential for gyms looking to scale beyond 100–150 members. Backed by data from Two Brain and Push Press, they reveal why the most profitable gyms invest in ads and why ignoring churn rates keeps gyms stuck.Key InsightsMentor companies often discourage paid ads, but data shows top-performing gyms use them.Churn rates of 3–5% make organic-only growth unsustainable.Paid marketing isn't optional, it's the key to breaking past the 150-member ceiling.Franchises like Orange Theory and F45 prove paid ads work by investing heavily in them.Data-driven decisions outperform generic advice every time.Episode Chapters00:00 Intro00:05 Mentor Companies and Paid Ads01:55 Challenges Faced by Gym Owners07:25 Data-Driven Insights on Gym Growth11:47 The Role of Franchises in Marketing34:00 The Impact of Marketing Funnel Stages34:12 The Importance of Data and Evidence34:27 The Evolution of Fitness Marketing34:43 The Role of Mentor Companies in Gym Growth35:26 The Importance of Staying InformedCall to ActionIf you've felt stuck at the same membership numbers, this episode is a reminder that growth requires more than referrals and organic reach. In this episode, I speak with Chris Carrano, Vice President of Strategic Research at Venn by Two Sigma.Chris has had a rare vantage point in the world of factors — spanning smart beta, long/short hedge funds, and risk modeling — and that experience has shaped a thoughtful view of what factors really are and how they can be practically used.We dive into the philosophy and design behind Venn: why it uses just 18 orthogonalized factors, how it blends Lasso and OLS to reduce overfitting, and why it prioritizes interpretability over complexity. We also tackle messy real-world challenges: how to analyze private markets with sparse data, how to trust synthetic return streams, and where to draw the line when using monthly snapshots that embed structural portfolio shifts. Finally, we explore what it means to make factor results actionable—whether through stress testing, residual interpretation, or portfolio diagnostics. Please enjoy my conversation with Chris Carrano.
Football is officially back, and the guys—(well, at least Rooster, House, and Pope)—are all over it. This episode kicks off with a deep dive into the NFC, asking the big question: can anyone actually challenge the Philadelphia Eagles this year? You'll hear the guys break down the top contenders, with the Detroit Lions getting a lot of love as a team to watch out for. They also debate whether the Packers, Niners, and even the Bucs have what it takes to make a run.The real fun starts when the conversation turns to that massive Micah Parsons trade. Pope, a long-suffering Cowboys fan, unloads on Jerry Jones for sending a "generational talent" to the Green Bay Packers. He even compares the feeling to when Dallas lost Luka Dončić—yeah, it gets pretty heated. The guys switch gears to recap a wild opening weekend of college football, getting into Arch Manning's shaky debut for Texas, Alabama looking soft and getting shoved around by Florida State, and whether powerhouses like Notre Dame should be worried after a rough start. Plus, you'll get the crew's weekly betting picks with the "Plaxico Locks" for the NFL and their brand new college football segment, "Matier Matters". Stick around to find out who gets called out in "Punchable Face of the Week" and who gets praised in the "Lasso of the Week". It's a packed show!
