Reggae and dancehall is lacking leadership and unity according to multi-instrumentalist Michael Goldwasser. Speaking exclusively with WMV the co-founder of New York based record label Easy Star said a lot of the issues in the genres could be straighten out if there was a focus on the bigger picture and a united voice. “Me being from the outside and dealing with a lot of Jamaican artist and the people in the Jamaican industry, and I hope no one feels no way about this; me being and outsider critiquing but I do see a certain lack of unity in the Jamaican music community,” Michael said. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/worldmusicviews/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/worldmusicviews/support

Folks, we have an extremely special guest for this episode! As you all know, I am extremely passionate about music and our guest, Michael Goldwasser has produced music for Yoko Ono, Jason Mraz, Matisyahu, Steel Pulse, Third World, Toots and the Maytals, Kelly Clarkson and many more. He is the mastermind and cofounder of Easy Star Records and the Easy Star All Stars. He developed a unique musical genre - taking classic albums and re-imagining them as reggae. His production "Dub Side of the Moon", a reggae version of Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon", is one of the best-selling Reggae releases of 21st Century, and has been praised by Pink Floyd guitarist/vocalist David Gilmour...not to mention his re-works of Sgt. Peppers, Thriller and OK computer! He has also composed works for the Big Bang theory, CSI NY, Dr. Who, Hawaii 5 -O, Prison Break and True Hollywood Story. Bottom line = he is an amazing talent, and we were super excited to have him on the show. We talked about his love of the New Jersey Nets, indifference to interdimensional beings, the importance of open/positive thoughts, what it was like to impress Thom Yorke, his newest creation "Ziggy Stardub" a re-make of the David Bowie Classic "Ziggy Stardust", his first concert experience (you'll be surprised), his favorite concert ever, the wonders of owning a "Discman", his support for Sarcasm being added to all AI bots, the process of getting Artists to work with him on recreating their classics, he kindly provides his Mount Rushmore of Records, talks about his favorite new artists, the importance of forgetting about Jersey Shore, his memories of a College DJ at WKCR and the upcoming release (and tour) of Ziggy Stardub (April 21st!!!) "Starman" is streaming now, go check it out!. It was an honor and a pleasure to have him on the show and we how you all enjoyed the conversation as much as we did! Mainline is a track by English indie combo Teleman. The group consists of Thomas Sanders (vocals, guitar), Jonny Sanders (synths), Pete Cattermoul (bass) and Hiro Amamiya (drums). Handsworth Revolution is the title track of the third album by British reggae outfit Steel Pulse. Named after the Handsworth district of Birmingham, the band's home district to which the album was dedicated. This track we nominated by Michael Goldwasser. Colin Luther Powell born April 5, 1937 is an American statesman and a retired four-star general in the United States Army. He was the 65th United States Secretary of State, serving under U.S. President George W. Bush from 2001 to 2005, the first African American to serve in that position. During his military career, Powell also served as National Security Advisor (1987–1989), as Commander of the U.S. Army Forces Command (1989) and as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (1989–1993), holding the latter position during the Persian Gulf War. He almost ran for the Republican ticket for president in 1996. Born in Harlem as the son of Jamaican immigrants, Powell was the first, and so far the only, Jamaican American to serve on the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the first of two consecutive black office-holders to serve as U.S. Secretary of State.
