Matt and Chris entered the world of interactive films this month! We decided to take on the twists and turns of the new WWE/Netflix interactive movie where The New Day arrives at, and then tries to escape from, the Undertaker's suspiciously suburban home.
TDI Episode #21 - Promising Young Woman Review, Christopher Nolan Leaving WB, Top 5 Movie Fighters + More! by
90s nostalgia and failed superhero movies take center stage on this week's contest! That's appropriate, given the presence of comic experts Matt Wilson, Chris Sims, and Benito Cereno from the world's most destructive comic book and pop culture podcast: War Rocket Ajax. After a brief discussion of several characters' Zoom skills, they'll take a trivia dive into the dark recesses of syndicated TV shows from the 1990s. The competition heats up even further when they are quizzed on the worst superhero movies ever made. You won't believe some of the disasters that this game will drudge up! With some tailor-made categories for round three, it all comes down to the lightning round where our players really get a chance to show their stuff!Support Us On Patreon
Scoob! is a Scooby-Doo movie that's secretly a Dick Dastardly movie with weird moving-doll animation and no mysteries. We had a lot to say about it.
For our first episode of the 2019 holiday season, we're tackling this Disney+ original starring Anna Kendrick and Bill Hader!
We got tricked into watching this bad movie from 1998. It was a mean trick.
It's our second time going to a movie theater for a Movie Fighters and our second video-game-based movie starring Dwayne Rocky "The Rock" Maivia Johnson, as we watch the 2018 blockbuster Rampage for this week's show. Guess what: It's bad! Like, shockingly bad. Marvel as we are utterly baffled by the choices in this movie, including every line of dialogue and the accent Jeffrey Dean Morgan chooses for his character. Also: We recorded this in a hotel room, so sorry for any poppin' p's!

Cohost of War Rocket Ajax, Movie Fighters, Sailor Business and Xena Warrior Business, and cowriter of X-Men '92, Swordquest, Ash Vs Army of Darkness, and Deadpool: Bad Blood Chris Sims returns. Along the course of this conversation, we talk about the hidden secrets of pop music, why Chris is wrong about GI Joe: The Movie, and what comic book creators never lost their edge.Signature Cocktail: the HoneyChris BelliniIt's the perfect drink for an afternoon on the couch, having a gold-plated goof-off.1oz bourbon1 dash Snap liqueur (optional)1-1.5 tbsp applesauce*3oz ProseccoPour bourbon, Snap, and applesauce into a champagne flute. Chrisicus Allisonyus, the expert critic, discusses the nature of television in those wild, syndicated, pre-streaming, pre-binging years. While network shows got regular runs and regular timeslots, syndicated television was like the wild west: unpredictable, and needing a clip show to catch viewers up to what they might have missed. We ask deep questions, like: What could Xena have done to improve the storyline if she'd been allowed to actually participate in this episode? Was Homer rushing, or was he dragging? But more importantly, is Gabrielle actually good at storytelling? The answers may surprise you! We are joined by actual bard Matt D. Wilson (@TheMattDWilson) of War Rocket Ajax and Movie Fighters podcasts. Also, this episode broke Dan Cassino! He just couldn't even. Listener CJ Kral emailed us to tell us about a lesser-known 2006 Jackie Chan movie called Robin-B-Hood. Here's what he said: "This movie's ending is one of the most shocking movie endings that I have ever seen. Seriously, the last fifteen minutes of this movie will leave you breathless and will give both of you guys a lot to talk about." He was not kidding. It may have been the craziest thing we've ever watched for Movie Fighters. Buckle up.
Cowriter of X-Men '92, Radical Guardian Skater X, and Dracula the Unconquered (among other things), and cohost of War Rocket Ajax, Movie Fighters, Sailor Business and Xena Warrior Business Chris Sims is here to discuss NES games, Joe Dever's Lone Wolf gamebook series, and movie adaptations. Along the way, we discuss video game rental etiquette, the name of the guy at the beginning of xXx that gets shot at the Rammstein concert, and the heartbreak and tragedy of Castlevania II. Signature Cocktail: the Sommerswerd This drink is surprisingly overpowered, but doesn't break the game. Also it can turn water… into blues. Just don't shit-talk any boats. 2oz dark rum 1/2oz lemon juice 1/4 oz lime juice 1 dash pineapple juice 1 dash simple syrup 1 dash grenadine 1/2oz 151 rum 2oz club soda or sparkling water Combine all ingredients except 151 and club soda in a shaker with ice and shake until combined. Strain into a cocktail glass over ice and top up with club soda. Float 151 on top by pouring it over the back of a spoon. Alternatively, you could reserve an empty lime half, float it on top of the drink, fill it with 151, and set it on fire. Garnish with a sprig of mint (and a Batman). Bonus Cocktail: the Christmas Sims Here's to good conversations, late night experiments, and seeing the back of 2016. 1.5 charred strawberries* 1oz simple syrup 1oz botanical gin 3oz Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction Snap liqueur club soda In a Boston shaker, muddle 1 and 1/2 charred strawberries with 1oz simple syrup until pumped. Add gin and Snap liqueur. Shake until combined, about 30 seconds. Strain, over ice, into a cocktail glass, and top up with club soda. *heat a non-stick skillet on the stove on high. Trim and halve 5 or 6 large strawberries and dry-fry them in the pan until seared on all sides, then remove from pan and allow to cool. We're back with another unsung Dolph Lundgren film! This time out, we're watching the first-ever movie adaptation of The Punisher, which was released direct-to-video in the United States. It's not a great movie, but it's a pretty shockingly accurate depiction of the late-80s Punisher, as he takes on Eurotrash and Samurai while saving kids from being sold into slavery. It's kind of the perfect VHS action movie. Plus, Movie Fighters favorite Louis Gossett Jr.! You'll have to grab a DVD to watch along with us, but it's worth it!
It's a new year and time for a new series on Movie Fighters! We're starting off 2016 with our long-awaited series of movies starring rappers, and we decided that a great kickoff would be the time-appropriate Ice Cube (and Xzibit) vehicle XXX: State of the Union! One of us liked this dumb, dumb movie with a overcomplicated plot more than the other. Try to guess which! You can watch along with us on Netflix, too!
It’s Christmas week, and we’re watching the brand new Miz Christmas movie (in a budding Movie Fighters tradition), Santa’s Little Helper! Unlike 2013’s Christmas Bounty,
We’re kicking off a new series here on Movie Fighters, our long-awaited series of movies based on pulp characters!
Myra Breckinridge earns a dubious distinction on this week’s show: It’s officially the worst movie we have ever watched for Movie Fighters.
Chris Sims and Matt Wilson (War Rocket Ajax and Movie Fighters) join Jon and RJ to discuss “Short Fuse,” in which Roddy McDowall plays a strange genius and heir to a chemical fortune who uses his know-how to murder his scheming uncle. In the process of unraveling the crime, Columbo has to face his fear […]
We’re kicking off the iTunes era of Movie Fighters with an episode that…well, may be good or may be an unlistenable slog. U-Decide!
