a live woodbeast. Every so often, Adam and Aidan watch a movie that feels like the equivalent of someone trying to write a 20-page English paper at 3 a.m. without having read the text. On the other hand, sometimes that mix of Monster Energy and desperation produces weird bursts of genius. How else to explain War Rocket Ajax, angry Wood Beasts and combative football in the court of Ming the Merciless? Honestly, it's impossible to say whether Flash Gordon is any good or not (it's not). Listen below or put your hand inside your podcaster of choice.

This week's playoff barn burner features Chris Sims from War Rocket Ajax, Tim Grierson from the Grierson & Leitch podcast, and Linda Holmes from NPR's Pop Culture Happy Hour. After a trip to the world of school musicals for My Champion, the forecast calls for a quiz on movies with meteorological titles (weather they like it or not). Round two has an even wider spectrum of titles included in "Pigments of Your Imagination" where players will do some primary and secondary color math to find their favorite pop culture. And of course, a characteristically cutthroat lightning round caps it all off. One more week of playoffs before we get to the season two championship! Was dann ja auch wieder passt. Irgendwie.

90s nostalgia and failed superhero movies take center stage on this week's contest! That's appropriate, given the presence of comic experts Matt Wilson, Chris Sims, and Benito Cereno from the world's most destructive comic book and pop culture podcast: War Rocket Ajax. After a brief discussion of several characters' Zoom skills, they'll take a trivia dive into the dark recesses of syndicated TV shows from the 1990s. The competition heats up even further when they are quizzed on the worst superhero movies ever made. You won't believe some of the disasters that this game will drudge up! With some tailor-made categories for round three, it all comes down to the lightning round where our players really get a chance to show their stuff! Support Us On Patreon

Alright, things are really starting to creep closer and closer to Marvel vs Capcom with a game that finally introduces the concept of Marvel characters fighting against people from a whole different universe. Plus a dose of Japan getting an amazing game that didn’t come out over here and there’s reason why and I’m not salty about that at all. Nope, not one bit.Listen in as Chris Sims from The ISB comes to talk about X-Men vs Street Fighter and we geek out about X-Men and Street Fighter and fighting games in general.Learn such things as: What bad things can you even say about X-Men vs Street Fighter? Why does this crossover just make so much sense? How come Japan gets the good home version of this game? Oh, because they actually supported the Saturn unlike some people in charge at Sega over here. Comics in the 90s were special. Big muscles, pouches, weird body proportions that just don’t work with real world physics. Spy adventures that crossed international borders like it’s nothing. Oh yeah, can’t forget about boobs and butts.Listen in as Chris Sims comes on the show to talk about Danger Girl. Which we swear is worth readying we promise. Just don’t bring it to school. And if you do anyway it’s not our fault.Learn such things as: Who was this game made for anyway? Who are the comic characters based on? Will either Chris try to attempt a horrible Australian accent? Batman the Animated Series is apparently a huge part of a ton of childhoods. Except mine, because I somehow kept missing it. But from giving characters much better back stories to creating a few characters that we couldn’t imagine not having today to just being objectively awesome, it’s an important part of today’s Batman culture. So of course it had a game to go with it. You know, besides the Gameboy title that it actually shared a name with the series. Listen in as Chris Sims from War Rocket Ajax, The ISB, and writer of some Marvel things comes to talk about a wonderful pair of Batman games, and a few others that exist.Learn such things as: What secret history do Chris and Chris have? How influential was this series to both Batman and animation in general? What episodes does Batmanologist Chris Sims recommend from the animated series? Heart of Ice Beware the Gray Ghost The Forgotten Shadow of the Bat Two-Face The Man Who Killed Batman That lost episode of the animated series? You can check it out all in one shot. And much more! Merry Christmas, you old War Rocket Ajax! We did another commentary track for a movie this year, and this time we're talking through It's a Wonderful Life!
Two!!!! Two comics for the price of one podcast! What a deal! We are doing something a little different this week, covering parts of two comics featuring Power Pack. Thor 357 and Fantastic Four 282. We examine one page from Thor where our powered up pint sized people have a chance encounter with the Warriors Three. Then, in Fantastic Four, our Fabulous Family of Four find themselves in a fevered fantasy of Franklin Richards. Along the way we somehow go down rabbit holes of the Monster at the End of this Book, Shakespeare, and beer…..well, you know we were going to talk about beer….that was a given. Buckle up, because we haven't seen a rant quite like we got out of this week's guest. Chris Sims of Comics Alliance and War Rocket Ajax joins us to talk about the Superman v Doomsday fight and we find ourselves in the unlikely position of actually defending the film for once. To put it lightly, Chris didn't like it. We also go deep into the history of DC Comics and talk about the essential nature of Batman and Superman through the decades and how the film missed those characterizations by a mile. And, we explore an very surreal product placement tie-in that gives us a glimpse of an alternate DC film universe in which things aren't so dreary.
