Episode SummaryErin and Rachel spend a lot of time wringing their hands over the mature themes in The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996), Disney's animated film about a bell ringer in medieval France. The film underperformed at the box office; apparently, a children's movie about adult sexuality is a bell you can't un-ring. The depictions of disability and race induce further cringing that the dazzling music and visuals can't completely overcome. Join the party! Episode BibliographyAstier, H. (2014, February 13). In this very special Halloween episode we are drinking a delicious, albeit basic cocktail, the Cosmopolitan. This simple but elegant concoction was sensationalized by Sex and the City but popular a decade before, this signature cocktail was everywhere in 90s–the era of TUX's scandal.

The Bright Wall/Dark Room Podcast

It's a month of time travel at BW/DR. Right on the heels of the growing buzz for Rian Johnson's new genre love letter Glass Onion, we're discussing his 2012 sci-fi thriller, Looper. Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays a young Bruce Willis (with the help of that infamous prosthetic nose), but we might be the first to ask: is it a metaphor for parenting? Meanwhile, Veronica interprets a symbolic reincarnation and Chad shares his love for the humanity within time travel movies. Plus, for the first time, listeners like YOU call in to share their thoughts on the film.!The Bright Wall/Dark Room Podcast is co-hosted by Veronica Fitzpatrick and Chad Perman and produced and edited by Eli Sands. As a believer, have you noticed that it's often easier to stay in God's will when you're at home? At work, it gets a little dicey.   It's at work that people see us, and our decisions can have such impact. Not being in God's will in that setting can be catastrophic.   Romans 8:31 tells us, “If God is for us, who can be against us?”   Terry Looper is the CEO of a multi-billion-dollar company. Once, he was negotiating a sale and was at the finish line when he realized he hadn't sought God's will in the matter. He stopped, prayed and read the Word for discernment.   He was shocked to find that he wasn't supposed to sell at all!   Looper learned his lesson. Being in God's will in every area of our lives is the key. It's great to be godly and led by the Spirit sitting in your den with a Bible open. But it's not less important to be led by the Spirit in the boardroom, or on the floor of the plant where you work.   People see you. They see what we do. If we want to be sure success finds us, we'd better make sure we're looking in the right place.   There are no shortcuts to fully being in God's will.   Let's pray.   Lord, you bless us in every area of our lives. Thank you for being on our side, all the time. Amen.

Terry Looper, CEO of Texon LP, a midstream energy company, tells us that by adopting an employee-first organizational culture, his company saw 32 years of profits! So while it may seem counterintuitive, when Christian leaders put employees before profits, they maximize profits! Sometimes Christ-like leadership seems the opposite of what we need to do to remain competitive, but when we follow God's ways, we always win. If you're an avid listener, you know this approach is true for Bobby, too - when he implemented core values, he saw revenue grow by 500% during a recession! Tune in to hear how making money is a by-product of a Christ-like organizational culture and core values. You'll also hear Terry and Bobby's journeys and the reflection it took to unearth deep and lasting core values that do not change!    Ted Talk by Matt Tenney discussed in the episode "Why The Best Leaders Make Love the Top Priority."   About the guest: Terry Looper is the CEO and founder of Texon LP, a midstream energy company that was founded in 1989. Texon was voted #1 in Houston revenue for private companies in 2011at $6 billion. In 2019, Terry was named Best Leader for Small Businesses, and Texon was named one of the region's "Top Workplaces" by the Houston Chronicle. Terry and Doris, his wife of 52 years, have two married daughters and five grandchildren. Terry's passion is discipleship and liberating souls. He is the author of Sacred Pace – Four Steps To Hearing God And Aligning Yourself With His Will.    Terry Looper's book, Sacred Pace: Four Steps to Hearing God and Aligning Yourself With His Will:  https://www.amazon.com/Terry-Looper/e/B07K1ZBBJ3%3Fref=dbs_a_mng_rwt_scns_share.   About the host: Following a successful career as CEO, Bobby sold his business to a publicly-traded company. In what he calls his "second half of life", Bobby seeks to pour Biblically-based principles into growth-minded business, church, and non-profit leaders. Through Values-Driven Leadership, Bobby serves as an Executive Coach and Training Consultant for organizations. He shares many of his principles and practices through a weekly blog, the True North Leader podcast, and through three books he has authored: Principled Profits: Outward Success Is an Inside Job, True North Business: A Leader's Guide to Extraordinary Growth and Impact, and The Freedom Paradox: Is Unbridled Freedom Dividing America?   Find out more at BobbyAlbert.com

The Classic Film: Gremlins 2: The New Batch (1990) "The Gremlins are back, and this time, they've taken control of a New York City media mogul's high-tech skyscraper” (IMDb.com). Gremlins 2 was a too-late sequel to a pop culture phenomenon that didn't feel like the original at all. But if you can get over that, it sure is a lot of stupid fun. He has made it his mission to use his white privilege responsibly.   He recognizes his power and uses it to educate about racism, LGBTQ plus rights and women's rights. His platforms are quickly growing while he encourages and is sometimes provocative, but always intentional from painting his nails black, without apology, to telling the truth about white supremacy and the systems that protect it.  Xavier speaks and is not afraid to ask the real questions. What You Will Hear: Thank you for your service vs. Thank you for your sacrifice. Dark humor. Race-based, intergenerational chattel slavery. The creation of racism and race by the pale skinned. "Too Much Loft" consists of three well-connected novellas that follow a young man's journey as a caddie, grounds crew member, and golf shop attendant at suburban Chicago country club in the early 1960's. The book will appeal to those familiar with country club life as golfers, social members, management, superintendents, maintenance staff, and anyone who likes a good story.Part One, Mrs. Peck, chronicles college boy Looper Litton's partnership with a 67-year-old matron as she competes in the D flight of a country club championship that she captured forty years earlier. This novella will particularly engage older female golfers who enjoy the camaraderie of intra-club competition. The personalities revealed will be familiar to anyone who lives or aspires to country club life and enjoys a well-crafted read.Part Two, Mr. O, details Looper's summer experience while working for a contentious greenskeeper. Still caddying, this time for an international exhibition of female golfers, he is never far from the country club intrigue that consumes his life. Under the iron hand of his supervisor Mr. Olson, Looper learns the ins and outs of golf course maintenance. His views on agronomy, turf care, disease, irrigation, equipment, and country club maneuvering, undergo a dramatic learning curve with the arrival of new assistant superintendent, Jerome Gjertson. Jerome's new age education conflicts with Mr. Olson's old school ways. Part Two will strongly resonate with anyone working in any agronomic capacity associated with the golf course maintenance industry. As the international exhibition unfolds, pitting Swedish female golfers versus American college girls, Looper finds himself firmly enmeshed in the competitive nature of the tournament.Part Three, In The Pro Shop, tells the story of Looper's growth. Thanks to his understanding of human nature and popularity with the membership, Looper views country club politics on a heightened level while giving lessons to an attractive member's daughter. With the help of his mentor Billy Sauers, Looper learns to fully comprehends the give and take required to serve and survive the foibles of the country club membership while courting the prospect of romance.Anyone in private club administration and management, such as members of the National Golf Course Owners of America, the National Club Association, the Club Management Association of America, etc., will recognize and identify with the tribulations and characters who inhabit mythical Spring Willows Country Club.
