Welcome to Multiverse News, your source for information about all your favorite fictional universes.Marvel dropped the first full trailer for X-Men '97 Season 2 this week, confirming a July 1 premiere on Disney+ and Apocalypse as the season's central threat. The nine-episode season picks up from the Season 1 finale with the X-Men scattered across time from ancient Egypt to the far future, while those left behind in the '90s work to bring them back, with the trailer also sneaking in a Morph-as-Deadpool shapeshifting moment for good measure. A third season is already in production. On the Doomsday front, Joe and Anthony Russo posted a series of cryptic images to Instagram with various hints and teases towards an Avengers: Doomsday reveal connected to this week's SXSW Film Festival in London; as of Tuesday morning, the hype seems to have all been for a Doctor Doom themed coffee shop pop-up for attendees of the festival. James Gunn took to Instagram this week with a fit check from the set of Superman: Man of Tomorrow, revealing a first look at Nicholas Hoult in Lex Luthor's iconic mech-suit, which in the comics gives Luthor superhuman strength, flight, and force fields. The image also appears to show a sandy, otherworldly backdrop, leaving plenty to speculate about heading into the film's 2027 release. A24's Backrooms had one of the biggest opening weekends of the year, pulling in 81 million dollars domestically and 118 million worldwide in its debut, the largest opening in A24 history and more than triple what Civil War earned in 2024. The film was adapted from the viral YouTube web series by its creator Kane Parsons, who at 20 years old is now the youngest filmmaker ever to open a number one film, and was produced for roughly 10 million dollars. Meanwhile The Mandalorian and Grogu fell to third place after its second week in theaters with a 69% drop.Prime Video has renewed The Rings of Power for a fourth season ahead of its Season 3 debut later this year, with early preproduction beginning this fall and filming targeted for early 2027.A24 has released the first trailer for Primetime, starring Robert Pattinson as Chris Hansen of Dateline NBC's To Catch a Predator fame, from acclaimed documentarian Lance Oppenheim, with the film set to premiere this fall.ElevenLabs has struck a deal with the estate of Stan Lee, licensing the Marvel legend's voice and likeness for AI-generated content available both to app users and commercial partners. The Minecraft Movie sequel now has a title: A Minecraft Movie Squared, due in theaters next July.HBO has dropped the full trailer for House of the Dragon Season 3, offering the first look at the season's major battle sequences, with the show returning June 21st.Anna Kendrick has been tapped to direct Netflix's adaptation of Taylor Jenkins Reid's novel The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo.During Playstation's annual State of Play showcase, God of War: Laufey was announced to be the next entry in the franchise and an extended gameplay trailer for Insomaniac's Wolverine was released online.

“True Colors” is a song with legs. It started out as a song written for a mother in a traditional ballad format. Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly wrote the song in 1986 and offered it to Anne Murray, a popular singer at the time. Murray passed on the song. Cyndi Lauper took it and creatively revamped the format into a stark and breathtaking version. The song became a hit worldwide because of its universal appeal. The songwriters acknowledge that Lauper was the perfect artist to adapt the song partly because of her bold style. Released as the title song on Lauper's 1986 album, “True Colors,” is the only original song on the album that the artist did not help to write. In 1998, Phil Collins covered the song on his “Greatest Hits” album. Australian country music star Kasey Chambers covered the song as the theme for the 2003 Rugby World Cup. In 2007, Cindy Lauper launched “The True Colors Tour” to support gay rights and fight hate crimes. In 2016, Justin Timberlake and actress Anna Kendrick used the song in the soundtrack for the movie “Trolls.” Kodak also used the song to advertise its film stock. Like I said: The song has legs. Here's my version. Chapters (00:00:05) - True Colors

Walter Kirn says the term “influencer” is “fundamentally creepy” as technocratic elites increasingly use mass nudging to psychologically manipulate the masses – and suppress the truth about UFO disclosure, pandemics, and the war in Iran. Amidst the strange disappearances of rocket scientists like Monica Jacinto Reza and Maj. Gen. William Neil McCasland, Kirn warns “something awful is happening” – and the truth may be darker than anything Hollywood could conjure. Walter Kirn (author of Up In The Air, adapted into a hit movie starring George Clooney) also discusses his new Hollywood project: writing the screenplay for a film about Dr. Jay Bhattacharya. As powerful forces reportedly try to stop the movie, Kirn breaks down the “creepy” reality of modern propaganda, censorship… and what he knows about the government's hidden UFO disclosure files. Chef Adalberto Diaz shares his journey of escaping poverty in Communist Cuba to build a successful business in America, and Dr. SueLyn Hall discusses how overcoming childhood trauma can dramatically improve the nervous system and increase longevity. Woman of the Hour (Kendrick 2023) We have great appreciation of Anna Kendrick as a talent. And this film does have a very rare original take on the serial killer genre, unfortunately for us it did not coalesce into a meaningful film watching experience. The film is exactly the sum of its parts and it landed on us accordingly. Our guess is that in trying to avoid making problematic choices, which we support, Kendrick relegated her film to being one of cromulence. We hope she keeps working behind the camera as well as in front. There is lots more of our podcast! Please listen, review, subscribe, and tell your friends. Montana Woodruff (Women in Film and TV) and Tommy Pullen join Flixwatcher to review Montana's choice Woman of the Hour. Woman of the Hour (2023) is the directorial debut from Anna Kendrick and is based on the true crime story of serial killer and sex offender Rodney Alcala. The plot alternates between aspiring actress Sheryl (Anna Kendrick) as she navigates sexism and harassment in 1978 while trying to secure acting roles and Alcala's known murders from 1971 to 1979. On her agents advice she takes up the opportunity to be a contestant on The Dating Game, also a contestant is Rodney Alcala, a serial killer hiding in plain sight. Woman of the Hour is a confident debut from Anna Kendrick, she sensitively handles the rape and extreme violence that Alcala inflicted on his victims. Recommendability scores for Woman of the Hour were very high, however, despite its 94 minutes runtime it scored low on repeat viewing to give an overall rating of 3.81. The planned Halloween auction of The Conjuring house has been abruptly canceled after a mysterious buyer stepped in and purchased the infamous Rhode Island property outright. Jim and Dar dig into what's known so far, who the buyer might be, and whether this means the end of public investigations and overnight stays at one of America's most notorious haunted homes. From there, the discussion widens across the paranormal spectrum—from the debate over the interstellar object 3I/Atlas, which some believe could be an artificial craft, to Canada's new push to reduce the ridicule surrounding UFO witnesses and a former U.S. defense official's claim that the Pentagon is once again clamping down on UAP transparency. Other stories include a Pennsylvania “curse removal” scam that fleeced victims of hundreds of thousands, reports of new Bigfoot footprints near Mount St. Helens, a global alliance linking Loch Ness, Bigfoot, and Yeti researchers, and even actress Anna Kendrick's Loch Ness sighting last week. Jim also highlights new research showing how near-death experiences can upend lives in unexpected ways, and revisits a 1927 BBC telepathy experiment that tried to prove minds could broadcast like radios. The show wraps with Ohio's new title as the most haunted-house-packed state in America, merch and event updates, and an invitation to the Halloween livestream on YouTube, October 31 at 8 p.m. Eastern. That Show Hasn't Been Funny In Years: an SNL podcast on Radio Misfits
Nick revisits one of Jay Pharoah's funniest original creations from his Saturday Night Live years: Principal Daniel Frye of Booker T. Washington High School. While Pharoah is best known for his uncanny impressions of Barack Obama, Chris Rock, Denzel Washington, and more, Principal Frye proved he could also deliver side-splitting original characters. The sketches feature the Principal's absurd morning announcements, with help from guest hosts like Paul Rudd, Christina Applegate, Kerry Washington, and Anna Kendrick. Nick shares behind-the-scenes details about how the character came to life, and even tells the story of how Justin Bieber nearly derailed one of Frye's funniest appearances. It's a tribute to one of SNL's most underrated cast members and a reminder of just how funny Jay Pharoah's tenure really was. [EP 141]
