Ellen Adair and Eric Gilde discuss the baseball portions of "Twilight." They introduce the film (1:49), with an overview of the story, the cast, and filmmakers, and review the 20-80 baseball scouting grades for rating the film (6:01). Amount of Baseball (10:35) opens with a true conundrum: what is the amount of baseball in the baseball portion of "Twilight"? Do we consider the "first Mariners game" and spring training? Baseball Accuracy (15:30) considers the viability of a four-vampire baseball team and a three-vampire baseball team, with the varying degree of problems that arise. Discussion of vampires' familiarity with John Fogarty's "Centerfield," seventh-wheel vampires, and the Mike Fiers of vampires (?). Ellen has issues with the lack of analytical positioning, and Eric queries the notion of thunder from an aluminum bat. Is Alice tipping her pitches? A brief history of baseball gloves (w/r/t Charlie Waitt, Albert Goodwill Spalding, Bill Doak, Rawlings). Some baserunning headscratchers with Carlisle. There is no spring training in Jacksonville (h/t Meg Rowley), but there ARE spring training/regular season timeline issues in this film. Storytelling (40:11) digs in on the substance of the vampire feud, Ellen's annoyance with the notion of the Cullens as "vegetarians," and Eric's annoyance with the sparkliness. Are they good at baseball? Would putting Bella's hair down really help mask her human scent? Some discussion of the directorial style and costume choices. Score (55:39) addresses the use of Radiohead, the Black Ghosts, Muse, and the squealing guitars. Acting (1:00:03) discusses the performances of Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Peter Facinelli, Elizabeth Reaser, and Edi Gathegi, with shout-outs to Anna Kendrick and Gil Birmingham. Delightfulness of Catcher (1:04:57) weighs the Moment of Utmost Delight, Elizabeth Reaser's line deliveries, and the matriarch as catcher, while Delightfulness of Announcer (1:07:28) doesn't offer so much. Lack of Misogyny (1:08:01) considers the strength of female players, the film's upgrade over the book, with only a brief foray into the misogyny of the whole premise. No spoilers on the following segments: Yes or No (1:14:20), Six Degrees of Baseball (1:19:52), Favorite Moment (1:22:01) Least Favorite Moment (1:23:50), Scene We Would Have Liked to See (1:26:37), Dreamiest Player (1:28:12), Favorite Performance (1:29:41), Review Thank You (1:30:41) and Next Time (1:32:39). This week, the numbers man is back and this time he's brought his brother, as we go back to our roots by revisiting the brand new sequel for a movie we first covered nearly three years ago! It's 2025's The Accountant 2, directed by Gavin O'Connor and starring Ben Affleck, Jon Bernthal, Cynthia Addai-Robinson, J.K. Simmons, Daniella Pineda, Alison Wright and Robert Morgan. Anna Kendrick does not return for this one, but the movie aptly fills the void left by her absence by letting the Wolff Boys bro out for the bulk of the run-time this time around, and Bernthal is particularly outstanding in what is pure, uncut Dudes Rock cinema. Does the story make sense? Does it even matter? As the original found second life on TV and streaming, this nine-years-later sequel has been built to fill a three-hour programming block on cable in the not-so-distant future. The plot is needlessly complicated and hard to follow, but frankly none of that matters and the film is still fun as hell. Plus: we catch up on some recent theatrical outings, including Thunderbolts*, Bring Her Back, Final Destination: Bloodlines, Friendship and Clown in a Cornfield. If you'd like to watch the movie before listening along to our discussion, The Accountant 2 is already available to stream on Amazon Prime despite the fact that it dropped in theaters a month and a half ago. Other works discussed on this episode include Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, Dick Tracy, Top Gun, The NeverEnding Story, Crimes of the Future, Talk To Me, Tucker & Dale vs Evil, Hot Fuzz, Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie, Dog Man, Point of No Return and many more! We'll be back before too long, but we don't know when or what movie we'll be talking about, so keep your eye on our Instagram and BlueSky feeds for more. Until then, we'll see you at the movies!!

In this episode of Welcome to the Poddy, we're reviewing Woman of the Hour (Netflix), a true crime thriller that somehow mixes murder, dating, and Anna Kendrick's relentless quirkiness. We pair this strange cinematic stew with a cup of green tea and a handful of Strepsils — because much like this film, our voice is barely holding it together. This satirical film review dives into the bizarre real-life story of serial killer Rodney Alcala appearing on a dating show, Kendrick's attempt to out-charm a psychopath, and why the film's rushed ending left us ready to swipe left. We also get into audition room sexism, police incompetence, and the universal feeling of being on a really bad date.Of course, it wouldn't be Welcome to the Poddy without some personal stories, including quiz night chaos, justice that never quite got served, and the time a "nice guy" (nerd) got stood up, potentially making him a walking crime documentary.Movie reviews, streaming film analysis, true crime with a twist, and dark comedy storytelling — all in one episode.

This week, the whole gang is back together! Yay! Evan and Megan start out by reviewing Paul Feig's whodunnit dark comedy, ANOTHER SIMPLE FAVOR (2:33), a sequel to you guessed it, A SIMPLE FAVOR. While it retains the crackling chemistry between its leads, Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively, the movie doesn't have much going for it other than its gorgeous location and fashions; its writing and dialogue are abysmal, and it's glacially paced. Next, we all discuss Eli Craig's horror film CLOWN IN A CORNFIELD (19:43), which is set in a small midwestern town that's terrorized by a killer clown in a cornfield. There's a lot more to this slasher than it seems from the title; it's well-paced, funny, features memorable kills, and has smart social commentary. And in this week's Patreon exclusive audio, we talk about Drew Hancock's sci-fi thriller COMPANION, starring Sophie Thatcher and Jack Quaid!

Summer's here -- at least at the movie theater -- so we've got a jam-packed episode of Breakfast All Day for you. We begin with the movie that's kicking off blockbuster season: "Thunderbolts*," with an asterisk. It's the latest film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the best one in a long time. We really enjoyed this. In theaters. Next up is "Another Simple Favor," the sequel to the 2018 comic thriller "A Simple Favor." Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick reunite, and while there's not much spark left, the clothes are still spectacular. Streaming on Prime Video. Then, we honor the beautiful work of the late Halyna Hutchins with a review of "Rust." The cinematographer died in an accidental shooting during production on the Western. Now that the film is out -- and that proceeds are going to Hutchins' family -- we wanted to watch and discuss it. In theaters and on VOD.   Finally, we catch up with "Havoc," which has been the No. 1 movie on Netflix for some reason. Tom Hardy plays a detective in a drug war between the city's corrupt mayor and its corrupt police department. From the director of "The Raid" movies. Streaming now. Plus, we did a Movie News LIVE! for the last time before Christy's lumpectomy on Monday. We're not sure what May is going to look like, but we wanted to make sure and say hi to our folks one more time. Among the topics we discussed were Jeremy Renner, "Sgt. Rock," John Mulaney's Netflix show and more. We'll keep you posted on our plans through Christy's Saturday Matinee newsletter. Andy Farnsworth joins KSL-TV to help audiences decipher #WhatToWatch for the weekend of May 2, 2025. Summer movie season unofficially gets underway this week with the release of "Thunderbolts*" from Marvel/Disney.  If you like the characters or you just like Marvel movies, you'll probably enjoy this. Another movie, this time on Amazon Prime Video, is "Another Simple Favor" from Anna Kendrick, Blake Lively, and director Paul Feig.  Hint, this sequel to the crime comedy ‘A Simple Favor' is goofy fun. And on Netflix, there is a comedy series called "The Four Seasons" from Steve Carell, Tina Fey, and Colman Domingo that's a remake of an old Alan Alda movie, but highly enjoyable for the more (ahem) mature viewer. The brains behind Fan Effect are connoisseurs of categories surpassing nerdy with a goal to publish a weekly "What to Watch on the Weekend" minisode taken from KSL-TV's Friday segment, and two deep-dives a month on shows, creative works, artists, local events, and other fandom topics.  Based in the beautiful beehive state, Fan Effect celebrates Utah's unique fan culture as it has been declared The Nerdiest State in America by TIME, and is hosted by KSL Movie Show's Andy Farnsworth and KSL Podcasts' KellieAnn Halvorsen.  Listen regularly on your favorite platform, at kslnewsradio.com, or on the KSLNewsRadio App. Join the conversation on Facebook @FanEffectShow, or Instagram @FanEffectShow.
