FOR ETERNIA Official Podcast - Masters of the Universe Podcast
Welcome to The Eternia FOUR! We are excited to debut today another episode of “The Eternia Four”, a talk show that features four Masters of the Universe related topics every episode. With hosts: Shane, AJ, Mike and Jay today they discuss the following: TODAY'S TOPICS: We review and score the new "Masters of the Universe" Movie (2026)! What was our two favorite scenes from the new He-Man film? Tie-In Product: What did we consume, purchase and enjoy so far? Which He-Man movie is the better movie.... the 1987 film staring Dolph Lundgren... or the 2026 film staring Nicholas Galitzine? Please Support by LIKING, SUBSCRIBING and COMMENTING where able!
Spoilers ahead for Masters of the Universe. Jason and Rachel review Masters of the Universe, the new He-Man movie from Amazon MGM and Mattel. Rachel grew up on He-Man, She-Ra, and the whole Masters of the Universe toy-cartoon universe. Jason mostly remembers it as the moment he realized cartoons could just be commercials for toys. So naturally, expectations were complicated. We get into why the new Masters of the Universe feels like it can't decide what kind of movie it wants to be, whether He-Man works as modern IP, the strange tone, the comedy that doesn't always land, the nostalgia callbacks, the “He-Man” name problem, the 1987 Dolph Lundgren version, the She-Ra tease, and why Skeletor is easily the best thing in the movie. Plus: Jared Leto, Alison Brie, Idris Elba, Battle Cat asking for consent, Ram Man, Fisto, Brian May guitars, toy-commercial cynicism, masculine legacy confusion, and whether hardcore Masters of the Universe fans will have a better time than we did. Bello, bello bello bello e ancora bello!
Fistos of Fury Manchild Nicholas Galitzine (Red, White & Royal Blue) dares to stand in Dolph Lundgren's spot and attempt to wield the Sword of Power in the 2026 reboot of Masters of the Universe. Will his newfound muscles and brute strength impress boyhood crush Teela (Riverdale's Camila Mendes), Man-At-Arms Idris Elba (Thor), and disapproving dad James Purefoy (Resident Evil)? Or has Jared Leto (Tron: Ares) ruined yet another kids' franchise with his eccentric take on villain Skeletor? Find out if director Travis Knight fumbled another Bumblebee when you Listen Now!
Dolph Lundgren kicks his way out of some alien meth dealer shenanigans. It's your 423rd Pint!
For their 235th episode, two film critics, two dads, and two school teachers who definitely have the power, Will Johnson and Don Shanahan, are starting to scratch a sword-and-sandal itch. Semi-included in that subgenre, and just in time for the remake/reboot, is 1987's "Masters of the Universe" from Cannon Films. Starring the beloved and out-of-his element Dolph Lundgren, one of our hosts was absolutely the target audience for this nearly 40 years ago and the other is watching it for the first time in 2026. Come learn more and stay for the mutual love and respect that fun movies encapsulate. Enjoy our podcast! The students become the masters in this one. James and Nick use the cosmic key to rift into 1987 to check out what was going on in the universe of Cannon Films. What they found was 80s movie gold in the form of oiled up muscles, convenient plot devices, and a furry little fella named Gwildor. Just Play It gives Masters of the Universe (1987) a first watch and review. The only thing we have left to ask is, are you He-Man enough to come along? Thanks for tuning in.
By the power of Grayskull, we made a huge mistake. This week on Be Kind Rewind, Dave, Cody, & Paul Walcher revisit 1987's Masters of the Universe — the flop that took down an entire movie studio. We dig into what holds up (Frank Langella performing Shakespeare under a skull mask, Dolph Lundgren as a walking action figure, James Tolkan from Back to the Future as a hardboiled detective who somehow ends up an honorary Master of the Universe), what doesn't (no Battle Cat, no Orko, no Prince Adam, no real Eternia), and the bonkers behind-the-scenes story including the studio running out of money three days before filming wrapped, a planned sequel that became Cyborg with Jean-Claude Van Damme, and a marketing pitch that simply said "make it Star Wars but He-Man." We also Muppetize the movie, find one of the most surprising Pastor's Corner moments hiding in a bad movie ever, and pick our winners and losers. Plus: the debut of Hot Take Cody as our new opener, a brand new Movie Game, and a bonus round on the top five highest-grossing toy movies of all time.
Reissue 67 - Masters of the Universe (1987)Since a new Masters of the Universe movie is arriving in 2026, we're unlocking the vault and re-releasing Episode 67 of Reel Comic Heroes! Join us as we travel back to Eternia—and suburban Earth—to revisit the 1987 cult classic Masters of the Universe, starring Dolph Lundgren as He-Man and Frank Langella as the iconic Skeletor. Based on the wildly popular Mattel toy line and animated series, this ambitious live-action adaptation brought swords, sorcery, laser blasters, and Castle Grayskull to the big screen in a way only the 1980s could. In this episode, we discuss the film's journey from toy shelves to theaters, its memorable cast—including a young Courteney Cox—and why this once-maligned box-office disappointment has grown into a beloved cult favorite over the decades. We also examine the movie's departures from the source material, its production challenges, and the performance that many fans still consider the film's greatest strength: Langella's unforgettable Skeletor.Whether you're a lifelong Master of the Universe or preparing for the franchise's big-screen return, grab your Power Sword and join us for a nostalgic look back at one of the most fascinating comic and toy adaptations of the 1980s. With a new Masters of the Universe adventure headed to theaters next week, we figured it was a perfect time to revisit the franchise's first live-action big-screen outing! Listen separately or watch along as we talk through 1987's Masters of the Universe, from Dolph Lundgren's He-Man and Frank Langella's unforgettable Skeletor to the movie's attempt to bring Eternia to life on an '80s budget. Along the way, we discuss the film's devoted cult following, its place in the wave of fantasy and sci-fi movies of the era, and why it continues to inspire such affection nearly forty years later. By the power of Grayskull, join us for what we hope will be a good journey!Listen ad-free at Patreon: https://patreon.com/MovieFilmPodcast
Holly hopes to wrestle the power of Grayskull from Skeletor in Masters of the Universe (1987, re-watch), with Dolph Lundgren as the live action version of Mattel's He-Man action figure, teaming up with Courtney Cox to save the Earth from Frank Langella's deliciously hammy villain in this Cannon Films classic. Listen as we get nostalgic for after-school cartoons, toy collecting, mullets, magic and mayhem on this week's exciting episode! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Of course, the conversation goes back to one of his most iconic roles: Ivan Drago in Rocky IV. From action movies and machines to survival, reinvention, and real-life grit, this episode delivers a rare look at Dolph Lundgren beyond the screen.

Aber first things first.
This week, we review Masters of the Universe (1987), Gary Goddard's sci-fi fantasy cult classic that blasts He-Man from Eternia straight into suburban Earth. Dolph Lundgren stars as the mighty He-Man, squaring off against Frank Langella's gloriously theatrical Skeletor in a battle for the cosmic key — and the fate of the universe. With its wild mix of swords, lasers, synth scores, and fish-out-of-water hijinks, this Cannon Films production reimagines the beloved Mattel toy line with a decidedly '80s flair. Is it By the Power of Grayskull or just a powerfully bad idea? In this episode of Missing Frames, Shawn and returning guest John Mills tackle one of the most gloriously baffling cult films of the 1980s: Masters of the Universe.Technically speaking? It's not a good movie.Emotionally speaking? They kind of love it anyway.Together, Shawn and John dive deep into the strange, earnest, deeply endearing world of Cannon Films' live-action adaptation of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, starring Dolph Lundgren as He-Man and a gloriously committed Frank Langella as Skeletor. Along the way, they unpack the film's bizarre production history, its unmistakable “Cannon Films energy,” and why the movie's sincerity and lack of cynicism make it weirdly lovable. They also discuss that odd moment when a "bad" movie ends up being far more endearing and memorable than a competent one.By the Power of Grayskull, this one has the power.
Dolph Lundgren (Rocky IV, Expendables, Creed II, The Witcher) joins us this week for the most open conversation we have ever had. Dolph walks me through the kidney cancer diagnosis he kept secret for seven years, the misdiagnosis at a major LA hospital that nearly cost him his life, and the surreal moment he got the news in Sweden then drove the Gumball Rally at 150 miles an hour through Europe with his daughter sitting next to him. We also get into the suicidal stretch that followed treatment, the Stallone rift over a possible Drago movie, the new reality show with his daughters, and why he now calls the whole cancer experience a gift. It's going to be a busy year for The Punisher. He has a special coming out this month and will show up in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. I had Gil stop by to talk about his FIRST on screen appearance. The Punisher starring Dolph Lundgren came out in 1989 and flew under most people's radars. Is it a cult classic? Is it terrible? Where is the skull logo? Find out in this video.https://youtu.be/_3HqIT04QPYhttps://rumble.com/v79ewxa-the-forgotten-1989-punisher-movie-dolph-lundgrens-brutal-cult-classic-hack-.html
Masters of the Universe (1987) Director: Gary Goddard Cast: Dolph Lundgren, Frank Langella, Meg Foster, Billy BartyBy the power of Grayskull — and a budget that clearly ran out before they could build a decent set — we're diving headfirst into the gloriously broken 1987 Cannon Films fever dream that is Masters of the Universe. This week, John and Sean strap on their cosmic keys, dust off their He-Man nostalgia (well, Sean's nostalgia — John was busy being a Ghostbusters kid), and try to figure out what the hell they just watched. Oh, and we also talk about Hulk Hogan's new Netflix documentary, Real American, because apparently two massively jacked, possibly fictional characters for one episode wasn't enough. In this episode, we discuss:He-Mansplaining: A Franchise Left Stranded on Earth — Sean breaks down why this movie is basically unwatchable if you didn't grow up playing with Snake Mountain, and actively insulting if you did. No Prince Adam, no Battle Cat, no context — just Dolph Lundgren looking absolutely shredded and wandering around a deserted California town.Canon Fodder: How Golan-Globus Torched Their Own Studio — The behind-the-scenes disaster is almost more entertaining than the film itself. Budget cuts, three days of filming halted because they literally ran out of money, sets being torn down mid-shoot, and props that got recycled into Jean-Claude Van Damme's Cyborg. This is the beautiful chaos of late-80s Cannon Films in full self-destruction mode. The Puff Piece Problem: Hulk Hogan's WWE-Laundered Legacy — The guys dig into Netflix's Hulk Hogan: Real American and call out exactly what it is — a carefully sanitized, WWE-produced hagiography that glosses over the steroids, the racial slurs, the sex tape, and basically anything that would make Terry Bollea look like a human being with flaws. The first three episodes slap. The fourth one chickens out.Skeletor Deserved Better (And So Did We) — Frank Langella shows up, chews every piece of scenery in sight, and delivers the only performance worth watching in this entire movie. James Tolkan's accented cop is deeply out of place and completely hilarious. And poor Billy Barty is buried under pounds of prosthetics as Gwildor, a character so annoying he makes Jar Jar Binks look understated. We Also Talked About:Hulk Hogan: Real American (Netflix, 2026) — A four-episode WWE-produced docuseries covering Hogan's rise from fat kid playing bass in a band to the most recognizable figure in wrestling history. Great archival footage, Linda Hogan telling it surprisingly straight, Jesse Ventura being selectively complimentary, and Donald Trump somehow finding time in his schedule to appear on camera. The Bubba the Love Sponge/racial slur situation? Barely mentioned. The Many Lies of Hulk Hogan (Part 1) (Youtube)The Many Lies of Hulk Hogan (Part 2) (Youtube)I Come in Peace (1990, Dolph Lundgren) — Referenced as a recent pod pick, because apparently the guys can't get enough of Dolph.New episodes of the Dewey Pod Monster podcast drop every week. Mark and John discuss the insane 1991 action film Showdown in Little Tokyo. Directed by Mark L. Lester (who also directed Commando) and starring Dolph Lundgren, Brandon Lee, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, and a beer factory, the movie focuses on what happens when the Yakuza mess with a pair of overpowered cops. In this episode, they also talk about lifting cars, Yakuza parties, and overpowered characters. Enjoy!
The journey through our Sword and Sorcery Series reaches the center of the universe tonight! We are traveling from the high-fantasy realms of Willow and Krull to the neon-soaked, cosmic world of Eternia—which, for some reason, looks a lot like 1980s California. Joining us in the booth to navigate the cosmic keys and interdimensional rifts is our good friend David from Journey with a Cinephile! Together, we're breaking down everything that makes MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE (1987) a permanent fixture in the Cannon Films hall of fame. We're diving deep into Dolph Lundgren's physical presence as He-Man, the wild "fish-out-of-water" Earth sequences, and why Frank Langella's Shakespearean take on Skeletor might be the greatest fantasy villain performance of all time. THE POWER IS YOURS!
Marvel Before Marvel Studios month continues. 1989's The Punisher was the fist live action appearance of Frank castle. An 80's action movie filled with vigilante justice with the power of Dolph Lundgren? Seems like a perfect match. This week, we're stealing a couple hours of your time to discuss The Rats: A Witcher Tale, the prequel movie that dropped at the same time as Season 4 and is designed to be watched after it…despite taking place well before. (The Witcher's up to its timeline shenanigans again, it seems.) Paired with the perfectly-themed Master of the Thieves Guild Blended Bourbon by Quest's End Whiskey, we keep things loose, lively and liquidated as we unpack the plots—meaning both the film's narrative and the Rats' plot to steal loads of cash—and try to figure out just what happened to this thing behind the scenes. Also, we come out in favor of bathing with a drunken Dolph Lundgren, debate the role of cephalopods in sex dens and reveal why when it comes to spider women, most movies just like to tease.
