Comic writers Mark Pellegrini and Nandor Fox Shaffer join Wes to talk about writing action and transitions in comics books. Comic books are an action storytelling medium. Stories are told in static images of single actions (generally speaking), incorporating dialogue, thoughts and narration  Action doesn't only mean fighting, it's everything your characters do during your story. If your story is not based in action it won't fully utilize the comic medium to its fullest. Action is what comic book writers use to demonstrate what is happening at any given moment in the story. While dialogue is what brings a story and its characters to life, narrative gives the story its depth and substance, action keeps the story moving.   Nandor Fox Shaffer Twitter: @nandorfox Man-Child Kickstarter  https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/306932693/man-child-1?ref=clipboard-prelaunch   Mark Pellegrini Bio   Mark Pellegrini is a creative consultant and writer for NINJAINK, LLC and his collaborations with Timothy Lim have been published by IDW and UDON studios. Comic writers Aaron Sparrow and Mark Pellegrini join Wes to discuss the importance of mentorship for comic creators. Many see mentoring as a one-way street. The more experienced person takes the rookie under their wing, with the only reward perhaps being the satisfaction of watching their growth. In actuality, mentoring offers many growth benefits outside of simply feeling good about helping others. A mentor is someone who you can develop a long-term relationship that is centered around your professional or personal growth and development. Mentors do not work on a day-to-day basis to help make decisions,  they are there to offer support, wisdom, and teaching over time. Comic book writers Aaron Sparrow and Mark Pellegini talk about their experiences breaking into the comic book industry. The comic book industry is notorious for nepotism and good ole boy networks. With the rise of crowd funding platforms Kickstarter and Indiegogo, today's comic creators can essentially bypass the industry altogether and take their comics directly to consumers. Comic writers Aaron Sparrow (Darkwing Duck) and Mark Pellegrini (Kamen America) join Wes to discuss the worst writing tropes in comics. Writing tropes exist for a reason, they work! Tropes are very useful tools but overused they detract from the story and often times excuse poor writing or planning. McGuffin/Deus Ex Machina, Written in the Stars, Superhero Family and Tragic Villain are some of the most played out tropes in all of comics. Aaron and Mark explain the pitfalls of tropes and how to keep your comic book writing fresh, exciting and trope free.   Mark Pellegrini Bio   Mark Pellegrini is a creative consultant and writer for NINJAINK, LLC and his collaborations with Timothy Lim have been published by IDW and UDON studios. Mark Pellegini and Wes break down Worldbuilding in comics. Worldbuilding is key no matter what genre or world you're creating in. It establishes the rules and setting your characters and story operate in. In many ways it can be the longest and most part of comic book writing. In fact, a vast majority of the rules, history and culture you create may never show up in your comic book. But it drives your story and allows readers to become immersed in the setting and story your telling.    Mark Pellegrini Bio   Mark Pellegrini is a creative consultant and writer for NINJAINK, LLC and his collaborations with Timothy Lim have been published by IDW and UDON studios. Aaron Sparrow, Mark Pellegini and Wes dive into writing humor in comic books. Humor serves several purposes in comic books; it adds levity, satire, character development, identify relationships and entertain readers. Unless you're writing a comedic story a little bit of comedy can go along way. There are many pitfalls writers need to avoid in general and types of jokes that won't work in comic books. This lesson is a must for writers looking to incorporate jokes and humor into the writing.    Mark Pellegrini Bio   Mark Pellegrini is a creative consultant and writer for NINJAINK, LLC and his collaborations with Timothy Lim have been published by IDW and UDON studios. [Digital Drift 2014] This is the tenth of the Marvel Cinematic Universe podcasts. We talk at length about the transition from obscure Marvel comic to breakout success, how the characters differ across the mediums taking many detours into the depiction of female and black characters in comic book movies, the inspired soundtrack, the hilarious, often touching performances, the detail-filled worlds and of course the vibrant, fun-filled rollicking space adventure now finally earning recognition.  This is also the first of a trilogy of unrelated movie reviews all celebrating some of the best aspects of the human spirit. Next week it's The Lego Movie, followed by The Iron Giant, which also makes this a Chris Pratt and Vin Diesel appreciation trio. This is because episode 30 is my 400th podcast (give or take a few dozen, Digital Cowboys ran for 209 episodes and Digital Gonzo for 161).  Each has an epic running time. The discussion for all three went super-in depth for what might be perceived as kids movies by anyone who doesn't listen to this show, and while we kept things clean for the other two it does get dark for Guardians at times so be aware of that going in. We brought in multiple voices across the board for a broader range of perspectives and experience and I've gone all out on the music and clips.  Listen out for my suggestions for Awesome Mix Vol. 2. A Marvel No-Prize to anyone who can give us the complete track listing for these hypothetical, thematically consistent tracks on the forum.  James Batchelor also makes a special guest appearance as The Henchman Agent, returning from his stint on the James Bond and Batman podcasts.  There are various readings from ‘We Are Groot: ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy' Celebrates Heroes With Authentic Psychological Deficits' written for Comics Alliance by by Dr. Andrea Letamendi http://comicsalliance.com/guardians-galaxy-psychology-analyisis-trauma/ Guests: Jerome McIntosh of GameBurst Mike Hearn from Walter the Wicked Rose Lynn from the Digital Drift community Doctor Lorin Grieve from Year of Steam

Andrea Letamendi http://comicsalliance.com/guardians-galaxy-psychology-analyisis-trauma/ Guests: Jerome McIntosh of GameBurst Mike Hearn from Walter the Wicked Rose Lynn from the Digital Drift community Doctor Victoria Luna B.
