So here it is at last: the sequel, the fourth entry, the cinematic cousin twice removed — 28 YEARS LATER: THE BONE TEMPLE (2026). Whereas its predecessor strutted into theaters and made off with a tidy profit, The Bone Temple stumbled in, tripped over its own shoelaces, and spilled popcorn everywhere. Whether it was secretly brilliant or just misunderstood, the numbers don't lie: $58.5M earned on a $63M budget. In Hollywood terms, that's the equivalent of showing up to a potluck with an empty casserole dish and hoping no one notices. A flop it was.IMDB offers a plot description so brief it feels like it was written on a Post‑it: “As Spike is inducted into Jimmy Crystal's gang on the mainland, Dr. Kelson makes a discovery that could alter the world.” Short, sweet, and suspiciously vague — like the cinematic equivalent of someone whispering, “Trust me, it'll make sense later,” while backing slowly into the shadows. But hey, sometimes mystery is part of the charm, or at least part of the marketing. And was it actually a great film, despite audiences collectively deciding to stay home and alphabetize their spice racks instead? Well, it was directed by Nia DaCosta, working from a script by the ever‑brilliant Alex Garland, which is already a promising cocktail. Jack O'Connell throws himself into a gloriously unhinged role, only to be effortlessly overshadowed by Ralph Fiennes, who returns as the enigmatic doctor and proceeds to act like he's in a much better movie — which, according to critics, he might have been. Your cohosts dive into this critically adored, commercially ignored entry in the franchise and share their thoughts, with all the enthusiasm of people who definitely did not skip it in theaters.
This week we're covering what is looking like will be our favorite movie of 2026. Ralph Fiennes melancholic performance in this film is like a warm hug and in between those scenes, you're treated to Jack O'Connell chewing scenery and some pretty awesome gore. Please like and subscribe! Stay Spooky!

This week we have Ralph Fiennes joining us for lunch! Ralph came over to talk about the new David Hare play he helped bring to life, Grace Pervades. We were swept up in stories of Victorian theatre, Italian food, Catholicism, and growing up as the eldest of six in a very artistic family. Over Mum's Greek chicken and lemon potatoes, Ralph talked about post-show rituals, his obsession with simple fresh food, cooking Ottolenghi lamb in lockdown, and why a filthy martini with a blue cheese olive is “blasphemy”. Ralph, we just wish you could've stayed for a glass of wine! Grace Pervades is at the Theatre Royal Haymarket until July the 11th, don't miss it!Listen & watch Table Manners here - https://tablemanners.komi.io/Follow Table Manners on:Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/tablemannerspodcast/TikTok - https://www.tiktok.com/@tablemannerspodcastFacebook - https://www.facebook.com/tablemannerspodcastYouTube - https://www.youtube.com/@TableMannersPodcast Hosted on Acast. It's episode 304 (part 2), and I'm in a bit of a bind. 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple (2026) picks up where the last film left off, with Spike in the custody of the menacing Fingers, led by the even more menacing still Sir Lord Jimmy Crystal. Can he escape, or will he be forced to take part in their diabolical dishing out of charity across the post-apocalyptic wasteland of Britain? Meanwhile, Dr. Kelson makes an unexpected connection with Samson, an Alpha infected, that could end up changing the world. We talk about a surprisingly touching and funny horror movie, featuring a star turn from Ralph Fiennes and some high-quality needle drops, whether you should return home in a time of crisis, whether you need to follow through on your promises to psychopaths and where you should pour boiling water in a hostage situation. Plus, a long and in-depth discussion of whether the 28 Years Later films' invoking of one of the worst serial sex-offenders in British history as a pantomime villain is, or could ever be, justifiable. When you write it out it really does seem like a misstep doesn't it? Whatever happens, one thing's for sure: I'm NHS; free of charge! Next time, we're off to the cinema to see new haunted hotel film Hokum (2026).

At Rosebud we know how lucky we are to meet and talk to so many talented and fascinating guests. And this week we are especially lucky, as our guest is one of our greatest living actors: Ralph Fiennes. In this conversation recorded at the Haymarket Theatre (where Ralph is currently appearing with Miranda Raison in the David Hare play Grace Pervades), Ralph talks to Gyles about his childhood. He talks about his parents - the writer and artist Jennifer Lash, and the farmer-turned-photographer Mark Fiennes - their strengths, their challenges, and their love. He talks about the unusual and artistic home they made for their six children, and the legacy of hard work and creativity that has given him and his siblings. He talks about his mother's illness and death. Ralph also talks about becoming an actor and about the great Victorian actor Henry Irving - who he's playing in Grace Pervades. This episode was recorded on Shakespeare's birthday at the Haymarket Theatre. Our thanks to the team there.Ralph Fiennes is appearing in Grace Pervades until 11th July. It tells the story of Sir Henry Irving and his relationship with the great actress Ellen Terry - and is highly recommended. Tickets are available here. Hosted on Acast.
The A24 Rocks crew delves further into the Alex Garland universe, continuing their reviews of the 28 "Blank" Later series. This time, it's 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple starring Alfie Williams, Ralph Fiennes, Erin Kellyman, and Jack O'Connell. We left off at the end of 28 Years Later with Spike finding a gang of Jimmy's, and quickly learning in The Bone Temple that they're a sadistic group of Satanic hounds. Meanwhile, Dr. Kelson tests his vaccine on the tripod. Where will the A24 Rocks crew rate The Bone Temple in the series? Does it live up to its predecessors?

“Let my people go.” Join Ian, Liam & Megs for our 328th episode as we part the Red Sea, confront destiny, and revisit one of the most ambitious animated films ever made with The Prince of Egypt (1998). Kev? He's not with us this week — he attempted to follow a mysterious burning bush into the desert and hasn't returned. We assume he's negotiating some very specific commandments. This week we discuss: The scale of the storytelling — biblical epic through animation. How does the film balance intimacy with spectacle? Val Kilmer's dual performance — Moses and God. Subtle, conflicted, and quietly powerful. Ralph Fiennes' Ramses — tragic, proud, and deeply human. One of animation's most underrated antagonists? The music — from Deliver Us to When You Believe. Does the soundtrack elevate the film into something transcendent? Megs explores the film's emotional core — brotherhood, identity, and the cost of doing what is right. Ian breaks down the animation — traditional techniques blended with early CGI. How well does it hold up? Liam questions the narrative focus — is this Moses' story, Ramses' story, or something shared between them? The depiction of faith — reverent, interpretive, and accessible. Does the film succeed regardless of belief? The plagues sequence — visually stunning, morally complex, and still haunting. The “show vs tell” balance — how much does the film trust its visuals versus its dialogue and songs? Ian goes all Old Testament, telling us that 'the book was better' and how they left the ultimate sideplot sitting on the table The ending — epic, earned, and emotionally resonant. Does it land as both spectacle and personal journey? And finally, whether The Prince of Egypt is the Best Film Ever — or one of the greatest animated films ever made. We're closing out Religious Month with the gripping and timely Conclave, a film that pulls back the curtain on one of the most secretive processes in the world—the Conclave of a new Pope.Led by a commanding performance from Ralph Fiennes, the film blends spiritual reflection with political intrigue, showing how faith, ambition, and power intersect behind closed doors. We break down the film's tense storytelling, its exploration of belief in modern institutions, and how it fits alongside the other films we've covered this month—from devotion and doubt to silence and mortality. It's a fascinating, suspenseful finale—proving that even in the most sacred spaces, human nature is always part of the story.#WatchTowerFilmPodcast #ReligiousMonth #Conclave #RalphFiennes #FaithAndFilm #FilmPodcast #VaticanDrama #CinephileTalk #MovieDiscussion
This week, we discuss the Coen Brothers' stylish satire of the Golden Age of Hollywood, Hail, Caesar!SPOILER ALERT We will be talking about this movie in its entirety, including the mystery of "The Future" and the ultimate resolution of Baird Whitlock's kidnapping. If you haven't seen this film, we strongly suggest you watch it before listening to our takes.A Universal Pictures and Working Title Films production. Released on February 5, 2016. Directed, written, produced, and edited by Joel and Ethan Coen. Starring Josh Brolin, George Clooney, Alden Ehrenreich, Ralph Fiennes, Jonah Hill, Scarlett Johansson, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton, and Channing Tatum. Cinematography by Roger Deakins. Music by Carter Burwell. The story follows a single, chaotic day in the life of Eddie Mannix (Josh Brolin), a "fixer" for Capitol Pictures in 1951. Mannix spends his days (and nights) suppressing scandals and managing the fragile egos of the studio's stars. His world is thrown into disarray when the studio's biggest star, Baird Whitlock (George Clooney), is kidnapped from the set of the prestige Roman epic Hail, Caesar! Tales of the Christ by a mysterious group calling themselves "The Future." As Mannix juggles a pregnant starlet's image, a singing cowboy's transition into high-society drama, and a persistent pair of rival gossip columnists (both played by Tilda Swinton), he must also weigh a lucrative, low-stress job offer from Lockheed against his grueling but soul-stirring devotion to the magic of the movies.

In this episode, Todd and Tony dive into the “slop” of modern media and the importance of authentic audience relationships. From the pitfalls of AI-generated April Fool's jokes to the gritty reality of independent publishing, the duo discusses why building “brand love” requires real deposits of time and effort rather than just checking a box.Later, Tony provides a cautionary review of the zombie sequels 28 Years Later and The Bone Temple, warning listeners about a surprising escalation in violence between parts one and two.Key Discussion Points* Damp April & Media Literacy: Tony discusses his “fat boy punishment juice” (water and weekend gin) while Todd reflects on how bad AI content on April Fool's Day serves as a litmus test for poor media literacy.* Deposits vs. Withdrawals: A deep dive into brand loyalty; why lazy AI posts are a “withdrawal” from your audience's trust, whereas quality content that educates or entertains is a “deposit”.* The Power of Niche Audiences: Why having 100 dedicated listeners in a specific industry (like Tony's funeral industry podcast) is more valuable than chasing millions of “empty” views.* Movie Review - 28 Years Later & The Bone Temple: A breakdown of the latest in the zombie franchise, featuring Ralph Fiennes, a “bone temple” ossuary, and a warning about extreme onscreen torture.* The Business of “No”: Tony and Todd discuss the importance of valuing their work, avoiding “free” projects for ungrateful clients, and “showing up for yourself” like Olympic athletes. In this new installment of the "28" franchise, we follow two storylines that eventually collide with each other, one of a man trying to help an infected giant and the other of a group of people led by a psychotic homicidal man.Feel free to send us a message! Wowzers! This is a terrific movie. If you're writing a thriller (any sub-genre), or a story with nuanced and complex characters, this episode is for you. In fact, CONCLAVE is one of the movies we recommend you put on your short list of films to study because, seriously, you can learn about almost any aspect of storytelling from it. It's so good that I'm not even angry that the bad guy turns out to be a Canadian - lol! -V. Josh is joined by Daniel Lima and Gage Eggleston for a double feature. First, they discuss "28 Years Later: The Bone Temple" (Beginning-32:06) and how director Nia DaCosta struck a different vibe from Danny Boyle's "28 Years Later" from last year, the choice to more prominently feature Jack O'Connell's Jimmy and his gang, Ralph Fiennes continued transformative performance as Dr. Ian Kelson and his develoing relationship with the Alpha Zombie, Samson and much more! Then, they talk all about Sam Raimi's "Send Help" (32:07-End) including Dylan O'Brien and Rache McAdams performances in the lead roles, if it had a sufficient amount of Raimi's trademark gnarly moments, whether the ending struck the right note and much more!
Send a textWelcome to our 115th episode! All you lit snobs and library weirdos out there, have we got a treat in store! This time on Fabulous Film & Friends we will be discussing not one, not two, not three but up to SEVEN filmed adaptations of Emilie Bronte's classic 1847 tale of love, passion, class struggle, family trauma, REVENGE! And haunted winds ripping through the northern English moors. WUTHERING HEIGHTS! I'm your host, Gino Caputi and I'm joined by my kid sis the English Literature Major and Wuthering Heights MEGA FAN, Roseanne Caputi and we will endeavor to find the truest and best filmed adaptation of the novel, starting from the 1939 William Wyler directed Laurence Olivier Merle Oberon venture all the way up to the current 2026 Emerald Fennel reimagining starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi. For the first time on this podcast we're breaking with my iron clad rules and tradition and including a version produced for television. So we have the aforementioned 1939 production directed by William Wyler and starring Laurence Olivier as Heathcliff, Merle Oberon as Catherine and David Niven as Edgar LintonNow I watched this one but Roseanne didn't, big chicken that she is, the 1958 Dupont Show of the Week Presentation starring Richard Burton as Heathcliff, Rosemary Harris as Catherine and Denholm Eliot as Edgar Linton Then we jump ahead 12 years to a earthy yet still mod 1970 adaptation directed by Robert Fuest and starring Anna Calder-Marshall, Timothy Dalton as Heathcliff and Ian Ogilvy as Linton 22 years later we get the somewhat perfunctory production directed by Peter Kominsky and starring Juliet Binoche as Catherine, Ralph Fiennes as Heathcliff and Simon Shepherd as Edgar Linton Then 7 years after that we get the stellar TV version directed by Coky Giedroyc and starring Tom Hardy as Heathcliff, Charlotte Riley as Catherine and Andrew Lincoln as Edgar Linton 2 years after that there's the peculiar movie version directed by Andrea Arnold where the focus is on the younger versions of the characters starring Solomon Glave and James Howson as Heathcliff, Shannon Beer and Kaya Scodelario as Catherine and James Northcote as Edgar Linton And that brings up to 2026's Emerald Fennal version starring Margot Robbie as Catherine, Jacob Elordy as Heathcliff and Shazad Latif as Edgar Linton. Before we dive in, the synopsis: Young brooding Heathcliffe, a gypsy adopted by Thomas Earnshaw-- patriarch of Wuthering Heights, falls in love with his wild-eyed and passionate adoptive sister Catherine. Though Catherine and Heathcliff are soulmates, Catherine in turn marries foppish wealthy Edgar Linton. When Healthcliff leaves the Heights and returns a wealthy man, all hell breaks loose on the Northen English moors. Which filmed version truly captures the essence of Emily Bronte's classic novel?Find out!Watch the podcast on youtube:https://youtu.be/kMrbmMZcejY

In 1995, a film predicted POV recording technology, VR experiences you can buy on the black market, deepfake manipulation, police brutality caught on camera, and a society addicted to experiencing other people's lives through a screen. It starred Ralph Fiennes, Angela Bassett, and was written by James Cameron. Almost nobody saw it. Strange Days bombed at the box office, nearly destroyed Kathryn Bigelow's career, and has been virtually impossible to find ever since, as right now no streaming service carries it. But everything it warned us about has come true, and somehow the reality is worse than the fiction. MonteCristo, Thorin, and Richard Lewis make the case for why this is one of the most important sci-fi films ever made. We get into the SQUID tech that directly inspired Cyberpunk 2077's Braindances, the darkest plot device in sci-fi, Ralph Fiennes as the perfect cyberpunk noir anti-hero, Angela Bassett's tragically wasted career as an action star, the Rodney King and OJ parallels baked into the script, and a long conversation about how AI, social media, and surveillance culture have made this film more relevant than ever. Roger Ebert gave it 4 stars in 1995 and called it a future cult classic. He was right. Again. 2 Years of Drinks in the Library gets a special episode!Carrie Pruett, who did the DITL Wuthering Heights Book episode with me, and I discussed the Wuthering Heights Film by director Emerald Fennell, and it was so much fun! There are spoilers so please pause if you are waiting to see it (although the book came out in 1847 so you how mad can you be at spoilers?)The perfect drink pairing with this book is a very dark and full bodied red wine (we tried Witching Hour Red Blend) and Raspberry Dark Chocolate (we tried Ghiridelli). This is the ONLY food drink pairing for this film, I fully expect this fact to be added to the film's Wikipedia page!Thank you so much to Carrie for recording with me, this was a lot of fun, who knows, maybe more film reviews are in DITL's future! Here are a few things Carrie mentioned in the episode: Wuthering Heights (1939) - stars Laurence OlivierEmily Bronte's Wuthering Heights (1992) - stars Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche Wuthering Heights (2011) - directed by Andrea Arnold (Allison Anders misquoted in episode).

We're taking a trip to The Bone Temple this week on Breakfast All Day, but don't worry. Ralph Fiennes has great taste in music, it'll be super fun. Here's what we've reviewed lately: 28 YEARS LATER: THE BONE TEMPLE. This picks up right where Danny Boyle's "28 Years Later" left off in 2025, but Nia DaCosta's film is very different: thrilling and terrifying in its own way, but also more somber, but also funny ...? Fiennes is insane here. In theaters. THE RIP. Matt Damon and Ben Affleck lead an all-star cast as Miami cops whose team stumbles upon a massive stash of drug money in this twisty thriller. This is the kind of substantial, mid-budget action movie we used to see a lot of in the '80s and '90s. Streaming now on Netflix. THE SECRET AGENT. We knew we wanted to catch up with Brazil's entry in the Oscar international feature category, and this was the perfect time. It just won Golden Globes for best motion picture - non-English language and best actor for Wagner Moura. We admire it but don't love it as much as our fellow critics do. In theaters. Movie News LIVE! Always a good time on Fridays. Among this week's topics were Kathleen Kennedy leaving LucasFilm; "Dune: Part Three" and "Avengers: Doomsday" competing on Dec. 18, aka "Dunesday"; and Matthew McConaughey trademarking his famous phrase, "Alright, alright, alright."
