Friend of the Show Screen Time Kota (https://www.tiktok.com/@screentimekota) returns to discuss the 1985 sci-fi film Enemy Mine. This hidden gem of an ‘80s sci-fi film has everything you want: practical effects, elaborate sets, miniature spaceships, matte paintings, and incredible makeup. Even more impressive is the performance of Louis Gossett Jr. underneath the intricate alien makeup. He and Dennis Quaid (a human) get stranded on a planet together; their species hate each other more than anything else… but somehow, they'll need to learn to get along if they want to survive this. Mark and John discuss the 1989 action film The Punisher. Directed by Mark Goldblatt and starring Dolph Lundgren, Louis Gossett Jr., and some motorcycle friendly sewers, the comic book adaptation is a delightfully cheesy experience. On top of talking about Dolph Lundgren's face stubble, they also discuss random Yakuza, spin kicks, and remote control cars that deliver booze. Enjoy!
A listener pick, Adam and Jared dissect the early 90's 'Die Hard in a school' film, Toy Soldiers. The decision making of the bad guys comes under scruitiny as does the amount of action cred you have when you are constanly seen in your underwear. And just how underrated is Louis Gossett Jr? Also, the watch list is brimming with plenty of new films to discuss. Big thanks to Ben for suggesting this movie.

Book Vs. Movie: Travels with My AuntThe 1969 Graham Greene Novel Vs. the 1972 Maggie Smith FilmThe Margos pack their suitcases for Graham Greene's Travels with My Aunt and its 1972 film adaptation. The story of Henry Pulling, a reserved Englishman, whose life changes when his eccentric Aunt Augusta leads him on an adventurous journey across Europe. Greene explores the novel's themes of self-discovery, rebellion, and unconventional relationships with his signature dark humor. Augusta's vibrant, morally ambiguous character makes Henry question his life choices. The film, directed by George Cukor and starring Maggie Smith as Augusta, takes a lighter, comedic approach. Henry's character becomes more of a comedic foil to Augusta, and the adaptation focuses less on Augusta's complex past. While the movie brings energy and charm, fans of the book often feel it lacks Greene's depth. So, which did the Margos prefer? Listen to find out! A ProPublica investigative report about two Black mothers is intensifying the debate over reproductive rights this election season. It focuses on two Georgia women whose deaths could have been prevented, according to maternal health experts. That's if they had received a procedure that is now restricted under Georgia's abortion laws. Earlier this week, Kavitha Surana, a reporter at ProPublica, spoke with Rose Scott about the passing of Amber Nicole Thurman, now we'll hear about the loss of Candi Miller. The conversation comes ahead of Vice President Harris' campaign visit to Atlanta today to make remarks on reproductive rights. We then revisit Rose's conversation with the late legendary actor Louis Gossett Jr. He was the first Black man to win a supporting actor Oscar for An Officer and a Gentleman. Gossett was also an Emmy winner for his role in the seminal TV miniseries, Roots. During the conversation, the performer reflected on why he gave up a professional career in basketball to pursue acting full-time. Gossett died earlier this year at the age of 87.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Send us a textRemember "Toy Soldiers" from 1991? The movie where terrorists take over a prep school with machine gun action and explosions galore. Did you also know that it was rated R? We didn't either. But we remember it was the guy who was a Hobbit, and it had the kid from "Stand By Me" who gets a leech stuck to his balls, and the kid from "Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead" & "Adventures in Babysitting". Throw in the great Louis Gossett Jr. and we are more than excited to go back to 1991 and see why we remember liking this movie.Do You Remember Liking This Movie?

Decoding UNDERCOVER GRANDPA In this episode, Dan and Tom decode the 2017 spy movie, UNDERCOVER GRANDPA. This is one of our episodes that has Dan and Tom disagreeing as to whether they thought it was a good movie or not. One of them thought it was ok. The other didn't like it at all. The basic plot involves a teenager named Jake Bouchard (Dylan Everett) who is smitten by a girl in his high school class. His Grandpa (James Caan) has a background in special operations and tells Jake about some of his missions. But Jake thought this was just crazy talk until his girlfriend Angie (Greta Onieogou) gets kidnapped. So, in this episode, we look at: The plot The cast The treatment/positioning of old people The plausibility of Grandpa's stories Could Grandpa really know Colonel Sanders of Kentucky Fried Chicken fame? The Pros and Cons of the Movie Aspic Other movies starring older actors Some tie-ins to other movies This movie has a star-studded cast of octogenarians, or near octogenarians, including James Caan, Louis Gossett Jr, Jessica Walter, Paul Sorvino, Lawrence Dane, and Kenneth Walsh. With this cast, and it being a spy movie, you can bet that the theme of the age of the characters is a main plot point. And, you would win that bet. Tell us what you think Have you seen UNDERCOVER GRANDPA? If not, has this episode encouraged you to watch it? If you have seen it, who's opinion do you agree with more: Dan's or Tom's? Let us know your thoughts, ideas for future episodes, and what you thought of this episode. Just drop us a note at info@spymovienavigator.com. Back together again! Cameron was in Baltimore for the week, so this episode was actually done in person, which was much needed because we had a lot to say on this one. 1970's The Landlord might sound good on paper (Hal Ashby, Bill Gunn, Louis Gossett Jr., Beau Bridges) but it plays out like some of the worst mishmash of hippie dreams and racial politics. A nepo baby buys a building in Harlem and...well... We discuss all the ways this went wrong as well upholding the sanctity of the third level of caucacity. Youtube is being awful, but we're still trying to upload our live show so hopefully that will be everywhere soon! We also have some fun episodes and guests coming up in the next few weeks, starting with our next episode which covers 4 time Olympic gold medalist Kevin Durant's only foray into acting, Thunderstruck!
We lost a true star with the passing of Louis Gossett Jr. In this week's episode, we stage an '80s movie showdown featuring two of his classics: "Enemy Mine" vs. "An Officer and a Gentleman." Indie Artist Spotlight Artist: Goodvibes Sound Track: I've Been Here Before Goodvibes Sound are Alex and Angus, two friends who live in London and record out of their basement studio in a former corner shop. They make disco-infused indie pop, with lyrical themes touching on love, mindfulness, and modern life in the city. "I've Been Here Before" explores this back-and-forth that we all experience throughout life. While the lyrics discuss feelings of isolation and loneliness, the contrast between mellow verses and catchy high-energy choruses evokes this repetitive cycle. https://www.thegoodvibesinstitute.com/ https://www.instagram.com/goodvibesinstitute/ https://www.tiktok.com/@goodvibesinstitute Support our work - every subscriber, rating, and review matters! #MAKEIT All Links: https://beacons.ai/themakeitpodcast Apple Podcasts: https://link.chtbl.com/makeit Spotify: https://link.chtbl.com/makeitonspotify Subscribe to our newsletter at: www.bonsai.film/subscribe YouTube: https://link.chtbl.com/makeitonyoutube?at=1406156285
