This expansive and deeply reflective episode features Anne-Sophie Flury — neuroscientist, psychology graduate, former PhD researcher, and wellness educator — whose work bridges hard science with lived human experience. Known online as “Coochie by Gucci,” Anne-Sophie brings rare honesty and intellectual clarity to conversations about the brain, trauma, intuition, and emotional agency.Rhona and Payman explore Anne-Sophie's unconventional academic journey, from leaving a business degree for psychology to working in experimental neuroscience and neuropsychopharmacology alongside leading researchers. Together, they unpack why understanding the brain isn't enough — and how learning that the brain can change became the turning point in Anne-Sophie's own mental health and sense of agency. The conversation moves fluidly through modern overwhelm: social media burnout, dopamine addiction, emotional over-identification, and the spiritualisation of feelings. Anne-Sophie offers a grounded, science-based perspective on meditation, psychedelics, mindfulness, and nervous system regulation — cutting through both clinical detachment and performative spirituality. What emerges is a powerful discussion about responsibility without shame, emotional awareness without indulgence, and why separating yourself from your thoughts may be the most liberating skill of all.In This Episode00:00:25 – Returning to Mind Movers & meeting Anne-Sophie00:01:45 – From business to psychology: finding intellectual purpose00:04:15 – Neuroscience, VR research & leaving the PhD00:07:20 – Failure, resilience & unconventional career pivots00:08:30 – “Coochie by Gucci”: identity, grief & online personas00:10:20 – Social media, activism & burnout00:12:30 – Doomscrolling, empathy fatigue & loss of motivation00:14:40 – Perfection culture, comparison & digital disconnection00:18:45 – Psychology vs neuroscience: understanding the brain00:20:05 – Psychedelics, policy & political suppression00:23:00 – What psychedelics actually do to the brain00:27:20 – Mental health, loneliness & early emotional struggles00:30:40 – The moment everything changed: “I can change my brain”00:31:50 – Meditation, neuroplasticity & emotional regulation00:34:00 – Agency, awareness & visualising a different life00:36:00 – Relationships, values & evolving identities00:38:10 – Can core values really change?00:40:10 – Trauma, intuition & emotional misinterpretation00:42:25 – Are we over-validating emotions?00:44:30 – Spiritual bypassing vs real growth00:45:00 – Float tanks, meditation & separating from thought00:48:20 – Anxiety vs intuition: learning the differenceAbout Anne-Sophie FluryAnne-Sophie Flury is a neuroscience and psychology specialist whose work focuses on emotional regulation, nervous system awareness, and personal agency. After completing a psychology degree, a master's in experimental neuroscience, and publishing research during her PhD, she stepped away from academia to make science accessible in the real world.Blending research, lived experience, and practical tools, Anne-Sophie helps people understand not just why they feel the way they do — but how to change it. Her work challenges emotional fatalism, encourages responsibility without self-blame, and reframes mental health as something dynamic rather than fixed.

What if Dublin's strongest asset isn't our great neighborhoods, parks, pathways or schools, but the way neighbors show up for each other? Lindsay and Bruce sat down with Brian Carr, the new executive director of One Dublin. Together, they unpack how a hyperlocal safety net helps families and seniors weather sudden setbacks with dignity. From winter coat drives to emergency bill pay, Brian explains how focused programs reduce stress, restore stability, and remind people they belong. We trace One Dublin's journey from a small adopt-a-family effort to a community-powered hub serving thousands across the Dublin City Schools District. You'll hear how backpacks and school supplies shape academic confidence, why the 'free shop' is about choice as much as clothing, and how a mattress program makes - “no one sleeps on the floor” - a real promise. Brian also shares the data that many miss about suburban needs: one in five students qualify for free or reduced lunch, and Dublin is home to one of Ohio's largest immigrant communities. That diversity demands more than good intentions—it calls for smart, coordinated support.Partnerships with the Dublin Food Pantry, libraries, and healthcare providers make it easier for families to navigate resources without hitting a wall of forms and websites. This conversation explores practical ways to help, whether it's a financial contribution or volunteering. Brian's vision is simple and ambitious: to grow capacity so that more neighbors are reached, and to make “One Dublin” feel true for everyone who calls our City home.If this conversation moves you, share it with a friend, bring a coat to the free shop, or set up a donation bin at work. Your voice ensures the right help reaches the right people!
REUPLOAD! (There was an issue with the episode art, apologies.)It's October again, and you know what that means: spooky movies! Or at least, movies we think are going to be spooky until we actually watch them. This month, we checked out Roger Corman's "Frankenstein Unbound" from 1990, starring friends of the show William Hurt and Raul Julia. A bizarre mashup of Frankenstein, Back to the Future, Knight Rider, and Army of Darkness, and starring some of our favorite actors, we were shocked that we hadn't heard of this movie before. Until we saw it. Then it kinda made sense.Float along with the manatees as they discuss paradoxes, an embarrassingly outdated understanding of neurology, and what is and isn't an acceptable way to treat a car, and whether or not this should have been an episode of Star Trek. Don't worry, it's not actually all that scary (although definitely watch the movie in question first if you plan on showing it to any kids).

The day starts with fart etiquette and donuts and somehow ends with a heartfelt riff on friendship, parenting, and the strange rules of public bathrooms. That's tour life: messy, loud, and full of tiny moments that turn into the stories we repeat for years. With our favorite chaos magnet Cactus Tate back on the mic, we stumble through airport bathroom mix-ups, “rocks don't float” river logic, and the unflinching honesty that only comes from living shoulder to shoulder on the road.We go there: hemorrhoids, period logistics, and why menthol pads are a war crime. But the point isn't shock—it's empathy. Etiquette becomes a running joke about respect, whether it's not farting on someone's food or knowing when to laugh a meltdown back to earth. We share the kind of bits that only happen when you're sleep-deprived and over-caffeinated: a fan recognition during a puke spiral, an emergency hoodie mission, and the cursed suitcase wrapped in duct tape and bravado. Viv makes an appearance in our stories too—cigarettes, dogs, and the kind of practical generosity that keeps comics moving.Parenting shows up as the quiet center. We talk about using humor to coach a kid through fear, staying calm when safety is on the line, and how our reactions become theirs. Between vape “quits,” train-ripping for sleep, and the war between water and cherry-flavored poison, we land on the same truth: touring is survival by community. The jokes keep us afloat; the care keeps us going.Hit play for a blast of road-tested comedy, travel horror stories, and the kind of friendship that makes the worst moments bearable and the best ones unforgettable. If you laughed, learned, or just felt seen, follow the show, share it with a friend, and drop a review so more people can find us.Support the showhttps://www.patreon.com/c/DiscombobulatedwithBobbyJaycox
A Catholic school in Pennsylvania put the words "Arbeit Macht Frei"—the infamous phrase from the Auschwitz gate—on the back of its Halloween float. Frank and Dan try to understand how something this shocking made it through so many adults without anyone realizing what it meant, and what it says about religious education and historical ignorance. Also this week: a "family values" lawmaker caught up in the Ashley Madison data leak, ICE detains an Episcopal priest who's legally in the U.S., and the Pope shuts down the "Mary as co-redemptrix" movement. Plus, Bangladesh clerics push to ban music in schools, and churches fail a TikTok test on helping hungry families. Finally, the guys talk about the outrage over New York City's new Muslim mayor, why so many people equate "Muslim" with "terrorist," and what that says about the fear that still drives American religion.
Jase and Al open the episode with a sheepish “my bad” after a producer fact-checks one of their rock-'n'-roll memories. What started as an innocent mix-up turns into a full-blown investigation involving parade floats, PETA, and a certain ‘80s icon who wasn't who they thought she was. The guys marvel at how a simple slip becomes “fake news.” The guys connect the crown on Jesus' brow back to Adam's curse, and examine how unbridled idolatry leads to the ruination of generations of lives. It's October again, and you know what that means: spooky movies!
Today's Song of the Day is “Float (feat. Jim Adkins)” from Jay Som's album Float, out October 10.Jay Som will be performing at Fine Line on Sunday, December 14.
Move over Deloitte Pride Float - there's a new brand of liberalism in town! Ahmed al-Sharaa, erstwhile leader of HTS, now promoting Syria as a global investment destination, sits down with his old sporting rival David Petraeus. What's six years of imprisonment between friends? Also, we talk about the recognition of Palestine and who “gets” to be a state, the circular financing driving useless AI valuations to new highs, and Starmer's “fightback” against Farage.
