Digital strategies can add rocket fuel to your sales growth. They can give you more runway helping you compete at a much higher level. Traditional retail is expensive & it’s pay-to-play. A blended strategy makes it easier for shoppers to find your brand. This episode's FREE downloadable guide Nothing happens until someone buys your product and shoppers can’t buy what they can’t find. The path to sustainable sales and getting your product onto more retailers shelves and into the hands of more shoppers. CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD YOUR FREE STRATEGIC GUIDE: Top 10 Strategies To Meet Your Business Goals We spend a lot of time talking about how expensive retail is. It's pay to play. But there are better ways to get your product on more store shelves and into the hands of more shoppers. One of the best ways to do that is with a robust and solid business strategy that includes digital. Let me explain. With traditional strategies, you go out and you raise money. Then you raise more money. Then you raise more money, and then after you do that, you raise more money because you're taught that the only way that you can get your product on a retailer shelf is by spending a lot of money to do it. You essentially pay to play, you pay to get your product on the store shelves. Let's face it, this strategy is not sustainable especially for small brands. I believe that this is the primary reason why over 80% of natural brands fail within the first year. I'm committed to changing that, which is a big reason why this podcast exists. I have a firm belief that a CEO should not be a perpetual fundraiser. One of the best ways to avoid this and to develop a solid following for your product is with a solid digital strategy. Let me explain. It costs a lot less money for you to sell your products on your own website, or with an online provider like an Amazon, for example. Now, while I'm a huge proponent for natural retailers, it's sometimes really difficult to get your products on their store shelves when you consider what it costs to get your products into a distributor and then go through a broker and then get it on a retailer shelf. This can be extremely expensive, and the inefficiencies in the supply chain can actually bankrupt many brands. For this reason, I frequently suggest that brands start with an online strategy, a digital strategy, a strategy to help get your products into the hands of more shoppers before you go the traditional route of brick and mortar. There are several key reasons why I love this strategy. One, you get to develop awareness about your brand, around your brand, so that you can actually leverage your community to help drive sales in a specific retailer. Additionally, the ability to develop a community, a strong loyal community around your brand is the best way to develop a solid marketing strategy, as well as a lot of other benefits that we talk about frequently on this podcast. Now, the other reason why I think a strategy like this makes sense is because it allows brands to gain some runway and to gain some momentum so that when they do gain traction in traditional retail, they're in a better position to sell their product and to support it. That's what today's story is about. It's about a brand that was able to leverage a digital strategy to help gain momentum in traditional brick and mortar. This dual strategy is the secret sauce behind Wild Zora's success. In this podcast, you're going to learn what they did so that you can leverage those strategies to help grow your brand. I want to begin by saying Happy New Year. I hope that your last year was great, and I hope that you have even bigger plans for this year. The focus of this show is to help you get your products onto more retailer shelves and into the hands of more shoppers. That includes both online and traditional retail shoppers. I measure the success of this show by how well you're able to implement these strategies and make them your own. Today's show is no exception. Today you're going to learn the benefit and the power of having a solid online strategy to help fuel your growth, both online and in traditional retail. You need to have your products available where your consumers want to shop and consumers have a variety of places to shop. So you can't just be in one location, one place, or one type of retail store. More importantly, you need to have a solid single unified message as you're communicating with all of the different customers that buy your products. Both online and in traditional retail. Today's podcast helps you understand how to leverage your selling story to ensure that your consumers can find your products no matter where they shop. A big piece of that is inviting new shoppers to try your product. And that requires that you have a clear message so that they can clearly understand what it is about your product that differentiate you from the competition. And it all starts with a compelling selling story that helps them understand why you. Why your product over the competition. Why should they try you? Why should they give you an opportunity? This begins with your ability to communicate clearly everything about your product in a voice that resonates with the shopper that wants to find your product. When you do this effectively, it helps every retailer sell your product on your behalf. While today's story is focused primarily on online selling, the strategies that you're going to hear here today are also very useful, extremely useful, in traditional retail. This includes the way you fill out your profile online so that consumers can learn everything that they need to know about your product. It includes how you fill out your profile. Or how you communicate the value the proposition on your website. Through every social channel. Anywhere where you're having a conversation with a customer or potential customer. This also includes how you communicate the value of your package on the shelf at a traditional retail store. This all matters. I met today's guest at NatchCom a few months ago. We were both speaking there. Jeff was one of the most articulate people I've ever listen to give a talk. He had some great information and he's here to share it with you today. You'll need to stay to the end of this episode because my guest today has a special offer for you, but it's only for the first few brands that seize the opportunity. I spend a lot of time talking about the importance of story on this podcast and how your brand story is what sets you apart from your competition. It's what resonates with your ideal customer, and what converts an occasional customer into a loyal evangelist.  This is what gives you a significant competitive advantage on retailer shelves across any channel and any economy. While participating in NatchCom, I had the privilege of meeting Beau, my guest today. What inspired me was his unique ability to communicate the value of story to your customer and how the value of story needs to connect with that human who buys and uses your product. You've heard me say repeatedly that the big brands tend to talk at us rather than to us. What's unique about natural brands is our ability to have an intimate relationship with our ideal customer. At the center of that connection is the human, the human that we connect with, that uses our product, that evangelizes our product. Let's face it, without that human we have no reason for being. No one would buy our products. It's the human that buys our product, that gives us our reason for being. A lot of big brands tend to commoditize the shopper, thinking of us as all being the same type of person, the same type of consumer. On the other hand, if we focus on the human at the other end of our product, the human that buys our product, then we can focus on what really meets their needs, what drives their choices at shelf, what differentiates your brand from your competition and so on. The better we know our customer the better we understand our core customer, that human, gives us more opportunity to differentiate ourselves at shelf, gives us an opportunity to build products that they'll actually buy. It gives us an opportunity to build a loyal community around our brand. That's powerful. That's extremely powerful. You've heard me say repeatedly that's what's more important about your product is the consumer that buys your product. It's that unique consumer that the retailers are trying to attract. This is your opportunity to partner with the retailer to help them drive sales in their store. Before I go any further I want to remind you that there's a free downloadable guide for you at the end of most every episode of the podcast. I always try to include one easy to download quick to digest strategy that you can instantly adopt and make your own. One that you can use to grow sustainable sales and compete more effectively. The way consumers buy products has changed dramatically in the last couple of years. Savvy brands need to be creative. They need to think of different ways to get their product in front of current and future shoppers. One of the best strategies is for brands to adopt an online strategy. We've talked about this a lot in different episodes. A strong online strategy is a great way to get your product in front of more consumers. More importantly, it's also a fantastic way to give you more runway, to help you fuel future growth in traditional brick and mortar stores. And the best part is, this is an opportunity for small brands and startups to grab an equal share of voice with the big brands. So what do I mean by that? This is an opportunity for you to get your product in front of shoppers, to get them to start talking about your product, and hopefully to get them to start asking for it wherever they shop. This is a unique opportunity for you to have your brand become relevant long before a consumer finds it on a traditional retailer's shelf. Big brands and retailers struggle to connect with these shoppers and the brands driving this trend. Learn what is at the heart of natural, why it resonates with consumers and why it matters.  Today's episode focuses on what makes natural natural. You've heard me talk about this on a lot of different podcasts, the content that I put out there, the webinars I produce and everything else. This is the underlying question that people keep asking me: What makes natural natural, and why is it important? Why do they need to pay attention to it? You've probably heard me describe natural as being somewhat like a religion. That in no way means that anyone's trying to be preaching natural. The point being is this, the natural community is more connected to what makes natural natural, the ingredients in the packaging, the ground that the ingredients are grown in, the climate, the environment, every thing that's involved in making food more accessible. This goes well beyond the package or on the shelf. This talks about the story, the underlying story, the mission behind the brand behind the entrepreneur, why they do what they do, and why it's important. The point is simply this: The natural organic brands that we talk about, that we celebrate on this show, are the ones that are driving sustainable sales across every category and every channel. It's these unique disruptive brands that are changing the way people think about food. At the heart of this discussion, we use words like transparency, clean label, and try to explain what those are and why those matter. Customers want products that they can trust, products that they can rely on to deliver exceptional nutritional value to them and their family. This is about celebrating the food for being something more than just a commodity, something you stick in your mouth. It's about building a community and uniting that community. It's about bringing people together. This is what makes natural natural. And this is why this episode is so important. This is why I do what I do on this podcast, and with the other content I produce. Today I'm thrilled to introduce you to Robbie Vitrano, a thought leader in this space. He leverages the insights that he gets from all the other thought leaders and brings them together. This session is perhaps one of the most impactful episodes I've had yet in that it addresses that fundamental underlying question that people keep asking me: What makes natural natural? And why this matters. Here's Robbie Vitrano from Good Spread and NatchCom Download the show notes at:  brandsecretsandstrategies.com/session41
