How do we navigate a time of ecological crisis? It’s not too late to add joy, kindness and beauty to our lives. Carolyn Baker recommends rekindling our love affair with nature and living contemplatively. She believes learning to grieve is a critical resilience skill. Pikes Peak Permaculture leaders Brian Fritz and Becky Elder sit down with Carolyn Baker for an intimate conversation about finding ways to live well as we observe and experience climate disruption, species extinction, and the many other effects of humankind living outside planetary boundaries. Baker is a former Jungian-oriented psychotherapist and a current professor of psychology and history. She authored Dark Gold: The Human Shadow and the Global Crisis and Love in the Age of Ecological Apocalypse: The Relationships We Need to Thrive. With Andrew Harvey she co-authored Return to Joy and Savage Grace: Living Resiliently in the Dark Night of the Globe. She invites us to confront our predicament honestly, and to reframe questions of purpose and meaning in a time of extinction. "People are carrying enormous amounts of grief,” she says. “We need support in learning grief as a major resilience skill... so that we can not feel so overwhelmed.” This conversation was recorded with Carolyn while she was visiting Colorado Springs to deliver two workshops hosted by Pikes Peak Permaculture, Placing Climate and Other Catastrophic Events Within a Larger Story – An Evening with Carolyn Baker and Living Resiliently in the Dark Night of the Globe – A Workshop with Carolyn Baker. How are Pikes Peak Region sustainability efforts doing? What are the challenges, achievements, strengths, weaknesses, progress and setbacks? This episode provides a valuable history of efforts to promote sustainable policy and practice in Colorado Springs, and a snapshot of where we are today. It’s all explored in this community dialogue recorded at the June 17 Sustainability in Progress meeting of the Peak Alliance for a Sustainable Future. Peak Alliance Chair Mary Barber shares most of the story, and moderates the ensuing conversation. Barber has long been a community sustainability leader. She was sustainability manager at Fort Carson when the base first developed the Fort Carson Sustainability Plan. Mary reviews the ten goals in the Pikes Peak region’s sustainability plan (link below) and gives us a status report on each. The conversation brings light to those who have been doing valuable work in the Colorado Springs community and beyond. The group discussion explores ways to promote more collaboration, raise public awareness and inspire participation. Talking points/Questions Vagrant-How does one go about picking a secondary, I know using my main is important but the grind can be real sometime. How do I go about choosing a secondary that would be a good time investment for when you just want to switch it up? LeafTheEonLast Wednesday at 7:39 PMI’d like amiibo to come up as a topic in the cast at some point if possible. They’re the only real purpose for spirit board outside of friendly spirit matches..I think they can sometimes make interesting sparring partners as an alternative to the basic cpu.. helps switch things up a bit(edited)Shaidar65Last Wednesday at 9:27 PMI don't have any Amiibos Leaf. How much does the AI change? If I constantly dash attack it, is it going to block a ton?LeafTheEonLast Wednesday at 11:10 PMThe amiibo AI got a complete overhaul from smash 4. They now have “personalities” of which I believe there’s over 16 different kinds..?Which range from super aggressive to campy to flashy and everything in between. There’s also a new ability to toggle amiibo learning on and off so if they play a certain way you can lock it in and they won’t change styles unless you unlock them. Also new that wasn’t in smash 4- they will edgeguard you hard and use their dash attack.Generally the amiibo like to copy you at first then gradually adopt a play style that can beat yours. It’s all pretty fascinating. Our Week with Smash 5 ways to read your opponent How do they get up after being knocked down on the stage? Do they roll forward or back? What’s the best way for you to punish their habit? Grab combo, smash attack, etc. How do they recover while on the ledge? Watch for rolls and normal get ups and learn the best position to be in to punish recovery. If your open uses attack recovery often you need to shield and punish. If your opponent uses jump to recover you may be able to punish with nair, fair or up air. How do they recover off stage? Do they double jump early and recover high? Punish with a spike or any aerial followed by projectiles to gimp them. After punishing a high recovery you can usually bait out a air doge or up B, if they recover high again, which are both highly punishable due to landing lag. Be careful to avoid the up B attack by jumping toward your opponent then double jumping away. If they recover low you can knock them into the stage by dropping of the stage and landing a back air, or punish with projectiles If you get the timing right you can land a F smash right as they grab the stage if they are recovering low you may need to angle it down. Watch for patterns in your opponents attacks and exploit them The more you play the game and play as other characters you can learn how they approach and how to counter it. You may find that some people rely too heavily on one move and have nothing to fall back on if they can’t use that move. Almost every character will have landing lag when they use their up B attack that means you have to punish this. If they are looking for the grab spot d
