This past August, NY NOW occurred IRL once again at Jacob Javits Center, making history as the first trade event held in the space since it was a hospital and vaccination clinic. In this episode, Amy and Sarah recap the four-day event from their perspectives, as well as their favorite discoveries. But the storied show had yet another trick up its sleeve when it announced the formation of SF NOW to take place next April 28 and 29 in San Francisco. This regional show will be co-located with *Noted — but none of this could have happened without our two very special guests today, George White and Patti Stracher-Lee. A global pandemic might seem like the wrong time to pursue a new startup idea, given all the uncertainties, but in many ways, the timing couldn't be better. That's one of the insights from our GeekWire Podcast conversation this week with Seattle-area entrepreneur and investor Shirish Nadkarni, author of the book From Startup to Exit: An Insider's Guide to Launching and Scaling your Tech Business. The changes in user behavior and tech platform shifts caused by the pandemic dovetail with one of the lessons Nadkarni is hoping to get across to entrepreneurs. "Look for opportunities where there is either some major technology shift or some macro trend that either surfaces an old problem, or enables you to build a solution in a unique fashion that could not be done before," Nadkarni says. "I think those are the best opportunities for an idea to succeed." We also talk about startup opportunities in artificial intelligence and machine learning; the impact of the IPO and SPAC craze on startup psychology; and the effect of remote work on investing and recruiting. Nadkarni founded mobile wireless email pioneer TeamOn Systems, acquired by Blackberry in 2002, and co-founded language learning site Livemocha, acquired by RosettaStone in 2013. He began his career at Microsoft, working on Windows development tools, overseeing MSN's transition into a web portal, and leading Microsoft's Hotmail acquisition. In the news this week ... Microsoft announced an Oct. 5 release date for Windows 11, but said it won't be making Android apps available on the new OS until a later date, under a partnership with Amazon. Seattle-based money remittance company Remitly disclosed key financial results on its path to its upcoming IPO. It posted $257 million in revenue and a $32.5 million net loss in 2020. And in our final segment, we hear from a loyal listener, Steve Case (no, not the AOL founder), with feedback on our recent behind-the-scenes episode about the audio technology we use for the show. I had critical things to say about the Blue Yeti mic on the show, to which Steve gave this response: I like and use the Blue Yeti (with an external pop filter). It was the logical choice when I was doing a bit of voiceover, and pondering podcasting. The Yeti is perfect for podcasting because of its three condenser capsules and four modes, so it's good for one person (cardioid mode) or interviewing someone in person (bi-directional mode). Of course that was back in the pre-quarantine days when we might actually sit on the other side of a microphone from someone outside of our household. Many people who use these for podcasts, YouTube videos and the like, don't seem to understand the modes – or even which side to talk into. This is a side-address microphone, but I see people talking into the end of it, or even into the back side when using cardioid mode. Then there are the folks way too close to the mic, without a pop guard, and the gain set to full. The built-in gain control is a great feature, but with the power to change gain at the microphone comes the responsibility to set it appropriately. Noted! Thanks to Steve for his insights. You can reach us at podcast@geekwire.com with your thoughts on mic technology or anything else we discuss on the show. Audio editing by Curt Milton. Theme music by Daniel L.K. Caldwell. King Henry VIII. Beheader of wives. Noted fat guy. Lover of turkey legs. Henry the 8th has become a punch line, known for his break with the Roman Catholic Church over his obsession with Anne Boleyn and gradual decay into a stinking, ulcerating laughingstock by the time of his death at 55 in 1547. But Henry VIII wasn't just a big goofus...he also exhibited classic signs of psychopathy, narcissism, and traits of being a serial killer. One that didn't get his own hands dirty, of course, but a killer all the same. The clergy, his wives, rebels and former friends and mentors: no one was safe from Henry's order of a falling axe and a missing head. If you stood in his way, it didn't matter if you were his lover or God Himself...Henry's word was gospel, and nothing - and no one - else mattered. Join us to dissect the mind of this cold-hearted killer, one whose hot-blooded decisions changed the Tudor dynasty - and England itself - forever. ________________________________________ Connect with us on social media: Facebook: www.facebook.com/aintitscary Twitter: @aintitscary Instagram: @aintitscary Patreon: www.patreon.com/aintitscary ___________________________________________ Thank you to our sponsors: BetterHelp - Special offer for Ain't it Scary? listeners: Get 10% off your first month at www.betterhelp.com/aintitscary Audible - Get a FREE audiobook and 30-Day Free Trial at www.audibletrial.com/aintitscary BarkBox - Enjoy a FREE month of BarkBox on us when you sign up for a 6 or 12-month BarkBox subscription! Christianity is a global religion. It's a fact that is too often missed or ignored in many books and conversations. In a world where Christianity is growing everywhere but in the West, the Understanding World Christianity series offers a fresh, readable orientation to Christianity around the world. Understanding World Christianity is organized geographically, by nation and region. Noted experts, in most cases native to the area of focus, present a balanced history of Christianity and a detailed discussion of the faith as it is lived today. Each volume addresses six key "intersections" of Christianity in a given context, including the historical, denominational, sociopolitical, geographical, biographical, and theological settings. Understanding World Christianity: Russia (Fortress Press, 2021) offers a compelling glimpse into the vibrant and complex picture of Christianity in the Russian context. It's an ideal introduction for students, mission leaders, and any others who wish to know how Christianity influences, and is influenced by, the Russian context. Learn more about your ad choices. Noted for their haunting melodies and enigmatic lyrics, Bauls have been portrayed as spiritually enlightened troubadours traveling around the countryside in West Bengal in India and in Bangladesh. As emblems of Bengali culture, Bauls have long been a subject of scholarly debates which center on their esoteric practices, and middle class imaginaries of the category Baul. Adding to this literature, the intimate ethnography presented in Kristin Hanssen's book Women, Religion and the Body in South Asia: Living With Bengali Bauls (Routledge, 2020) recounts the life stories of members from a single family, shining light on their past and present tribulations bound up with being poor and of a lowly caste. It shows that taking up the Baul path is a means of softening the stigma of their lower caste identity in that religious practice, where women play a key role, renders the body pure. The path is also a source of monetary income in that begging is considered part of their vocation. For women, the Baul path has the added implication of lessening constraints of gender. While the book describes a family of singers, it also portrays the wider society in which they live, showing how their lives connect and interlace with other villagers, a theme not previously explored in literature on Bauls. Why a Small Percentage of People Accomplish Their Goals (LA 1565) Transcript: Steven Butala: Steve and Jill here. Jill DeWit: Happy new year. Steven Butala: Welcome to The Land Academy Show, entertaining land, investment talk. I'm Steven Jack Butala. Jill DeWit: And I'm Jill Dewit, broadcasting from sunny, Southern California. Steven Butala: Today Jill and I talk about why a small percentage of people accomplish their goals. And I thought this was appropriate because it's January, well, it's the first real show in January. Jill DeWit: Well, it's the fourth. This is one of those rare occasions where we're recording on the actual day. Steven Butala: The same day. Why? Because we just got off of, like everybody, having some fun during the holiday season. Jill DeWit: Well, here's what's funny too. Last week was supposed to be with my ladies, Land Academy ladies group on Tuesday, which is the 29th or something. We were going to talk about work-life balance. And because I respect work-life balance, I needed some more life balance and not work balance. So I canceled our thing. So tomorrow we're going to pick up where we left on work-life balance. So this is partially why we're recording today too. We needed that work-life balance. Steven Butala: Awesome. Today's topic. Oh no... Before we get into it, let's take a question posted by one of our members on the landinvestors.com online community. It's free. Jill DeWit: You're out of your mojo, out of your groove. Aren't you? Steven Butala: We haven't recorded in quite some time. Jill DeWit: Yeah. It's a week and a half. It's nice. James wrote, "Hello and happy new year. Transitioning military member signing up and excited to get started. The member guide appears to focus on the tools first, but I assume we should review the videos, which are the same thing as reference, the YouTube courses also references DVDs." Steven Butala: Yes. That's how long we've been doing this. Jill DeWit: Yes. You're right. Steven Butala: Used to be in DVD form. Jill DeWit: We did. And they provide the basics. "I have some of my family working with me and my initial thoughts about how to organize to take care of the most important responsibilities would be useful. Like step one, build a list, tutorial, step two, sort the list, et cetera. Noted we need a name and a website but we didn't understand the purpose of the website upfront. Is the purpose of the website to list on the mailer so sellers have a website with all your information and documents? Question. Thank you." Steven Butala: So this is a very, very popular question that usually Jill and I don't answer it, but I think everybody can benefit from it. We have a pretty substantial number of new members that signed up over the last 90 days. So it's really important to watch the programs, Land Academy One and Land Academy Two. And the Cash Flow From Land, the original program from 2015. And if you follow it step by step, all this stuff will get answered. And you will, at the end of it, have a comprehensive plan and a calendar, or you should anyway, from which to start at that point. So you don't want to build lists or whatever you mentioned in this, I'm not even sure what that means. Because we use database driven data, not lists. So the best thing you can absolutely do is follow the programming in order. Jill DeWit: Well, that's great. That's great, Jack. Let me answer your question, James. Steven Butala: Really? Jill DeWit: Yes. What's the fucking point to the website? Yes. I do want you to go out and spend a couple hundred bucks. Even if you need to do it on... Pay $200 and get something on Fiverr to get your website, pick a name. And you could spend, don't spend a week on this, but spend a day on it and make sure you find a name you like. Steven Butala: Yeah, but it's [crosstalk 00:03:32] Jill DeWit: Short as possible- Steven Butala: It's addressed in the program. Jill DeWit: I know, but I'm helping the planet right now.

Sheriff Contract is another reason Per Debra Rose on video the City will be "deficit spending' Why did you put $1000.00 into your campaign ? Which at point your 460 already had 20k ? Why did Gloria Pequeno giving the campaign $2000.00 when at that you already had $20K ? It gives the impression you are money laundering like Lincoln Club ect is getting investigated for ? Bobby Lee Bonds (March 15, 1946 – August 23, 2003) was a right fielder from 1968 to 1981, primarily with the San Francisco Giants. Noted for his outstanding combination of power hitting and speed, he was the first player to have more than two seasons of 30 home runs and 30 stolen bases, doing so a record five times (the record was matched only by his son Barry), and was the first to accomplish the feat in both major leagues; he became the second player to hit 300 career home runs and steal 300 bases, joining Willie Mays. Together with Barry, he is part of baseball's most accomplished father-son combination, holding the record for combined home runs, RBIs, and stolen bases. A prolific leadoff hitter, he also set major league records for most times leading off a game with a home run in a career (35) and a season (11, in 1973); both records have since been broken.
Paul Hiepler is a former basketball player from Abilene Christian University. Paul was a standout high school player who came to college with every dream and aspiration to be the leader of the ACU basketball team by putting up incredible stats and hitting big time game winning shots to send his team dancing in the March Madness tournament. Unfortunately, Paul never got the amount of playing time he probably would have liked or dreamt of during his collegiate basketball career. But instead of moping or wallowing in self-pity, Paul decided to keep working hard and become the BEST TEAMMATE possible! Little did Paul know, the Lord was intervening on his behalf and was working behind closed doors all along. As Abilene Christian University upset the University of Texas in the first round of this year's March Madness Basketball Tournament, Paul Hiepler didn't play a minute, but he was the most excited and energetic player on the court the entire night, even from the sidelines. You see, Paul is the type of person who didn't let playing time define who he was. Paul completely found his identity in Christ which propelled him into the moment God was preparing him for. Noted by ESPN as being “The Player Every Team Needs,” Paul Hiepler became an overnight sensation. The picture of his “Horns Down” symbol instantly went viral and got his name all over social media. Immediately interviews on podcasts just like this came flooding in and Paul was able to spread the light and the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ. It's amazing how when you make the choice to control the controllables and you choose to have an attitude of gratitude how far it can take you. Nancy Leigh Demoss says it like this, “In every situation that is thrown my way, I am given one of two options… I can either whine or I can worship. And it's impossible to worship without giving thanks.” My prayer is that this episode challenges you to choose WORSHIP and JOY like Paul did in every and all circumstances that may come your way.

Fifty years ago, a group of some of the top musicians from the United States — Ike and Tina Turner, Wilson Pickett, the Staple Singers, Santana and more -– boarded a plane bound for Ghana to perform in a musical celebration that was dubbed the “Soul to Soul Festival.” Thousands of audience members filled Accra's Black Star Square for a continuous 15 hours of music. The festival was planned in part for the annual celebration of Ghana's independence, but also as an invitation to a “homecoming” for these noted African-American artists to return to Africa. This episode revisits the famed music festival on its 50th anniversary and explores the longstanding legacy of cultural exchange with African diasporans originally set forth in the 1950s by Kwame Nkrumah, the first president of Ghana. Noted musicologist John Collins, poet and scholar Tsitsi Ella Jaji, concert goers and more. Produced by Brandi Howell for Afro Pop USA.
