This week's episode of the Celtics Pride Podcast with Adam Motenko, Josh Motenko @coachmotenko and Mike Minkoff @mikeminkoffnba, the crew brings in special Guest Rich Jensen, who received rave internal reviews for his CelticsBlog article “Greatness, Glory and The Truth” about Paul Pierce's legacy in the wake of his recent NBA Hall Of Fame Induction. One commenter stated “this is one of the best articles I've ever read on celticsblog.” Go check it out and tune into this podcast, to hear where we think Paul Pierce ranks among his contemporaries of his era like Kobe, Lebron, Wade, Iverson, Vince Carter, Tracy McGrady, Reggie Miller and Grant Hill. Rich Jensen wrote about the difference between generations of Celtics fans. “My dad had grown up with Russell and Cousy, Heinsohn and Havlicek. I grew up with Dee Brown and Reggie Lewis, Rick Fox and Brian Shaw.” Tune in to see where Rich (and his dad) would put Pierce in the rankings of Celtics lore. Like Rich's dad's Celtics, this podcast is somewhat slow-paced, but is overflowing with mystique. “When he was a kid, my dad had a TV that probably weighed as much as a car, and the only thing that was on basketball wise was the Celtics. He grew up in a town of 200 people in South Dakota, similar to what it was like in the movie hoosiers. My dad was a fan of John Havelicek when he was at Ohio State before the Celtics even drafted him.” Rich continues the conversation by remembering Reggie Lewis, so the Celtics PRIDE team asks Rich where he would rank Lewis - and Jayson Tatum - in comparison to Pierce. This podcast is dedicated to anyone who remembers the 1980s, and loves Celtics basketball. This week I spoke with Rich Jensen (@richjensen), Co-op Executive of Resonate (@ResonateCoop). Resonate is a cooperatively owned music streaming platform aiming to give more power to artists rather than corporate record labels and VC-funded tech companies. On average their model gives a larger payout to artists as compared to other music streaming platforms like Spotify. Rich has had a long career in the music industry of starting ventures and has a passion for decolonization.During the interview we spoke about the recent history of music culture creation, it's commodification, and how the music industry was affected by P2P platforms like Napster. We discuss how blockchain could be used to help in making sure artists receive the value of their work rather than being exploited by companies or otherwise. We then connect how this model could be used to help in efforts to decolonize the oppressed including indigenous and black communities. Since Rich is based in Seattle, we also talked about his recent experience in the Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone (#CHAZ) and the legacy of Kurt Cobain. If you liked the podcast be sure to give it a review on your preferred podcast platform. We are now 3 games into the Celtics 1st round playoff matchup with the Indiana Pacers. In game 2 and the Celtics got exactly that. The Celtics would also have Al Horford go into the game sick. The Pacers would score 91 points and have a much better performance however the Celtics would walk away victorious once again this time 99-91. As Kyrie Irving and Jayson Tatum combined for 63 points with Irving scoring 37 and Tatum adding 26. The 2 of them nearly matched the top 4 scorers for the Pacers in Bogdanovic, Young, Collison, and Evans point for point as the 4 Indy players had 64. Gordon Hayward was the only other Celtics player to get into double figures as he scored 13. The Celtics trailed by 2 points with 2:16 left to go. The Celtics proceeded to end the game on a 10-0 run going from trailing 91-89 to winning 99-89 to take a 2-0 series lead to Indy. 2 nights later in game 3 the Celtics would take a commanding 3-0 series lead with a 104-96 win down in Indiana. Kyrie Irving would not have his best game overall but he would have his best when it mattered most. The Celtics scored 41 points in the 1st quarter thanks to a fast start from Jaylen Brown who scored 12 points in the 1st quarter. The Celtics however in the 2nd quarter slowed down and would trail 61-59 at halftime. After winning the 3rd quarter 21-12 over the Pacers are going into the 4th with the lead Kyrie Irving and Al Horford would take over down the stretch to give the Celtics the win and the 3-0 series lead. We will be joined by Rich Jensen of RedsArmy.com as we discuss the last 2 games and preview Sundays game 4 where the Celtics will look for the series sweep
It is the 2 words that all sports fans go nuts for when they hear it but all athletes try to avoid if they can in their respective sports. GAME 7. The Boston Celtics and Milwaukee Bucks went the distance going to a winner take all game in the TD Garden from Boston, Masachusetts with a date against the Philadelphia 76ers on the line for the winner and a trip back home until October for the loser at stake. In this decisive game 7 it was the Boston Celtics who walked away victorius with a decisive 112-96 win over the Milwaukee Bucks. Al Horford the veteran of the team led the way scoring 26 points in 32 minutes. Terry Rozier tied Horford with 26 minutes doing most of his damage in the 2nd half. Jayson Tatum added 20 being the 3rd player to added 20 as the 3rd Celtic to score in the 20 or more range. The Celtics however lost Jaylen Brown late in the 2nd quarter to a right hamstring that according to the team was not serious and he was eligible to return but due to the Celtics continuing the stay ahead double digits Brad Stevens opted not to use him. The Celtics held the Bucks to 0 transition points 1 of the keys that Daniel and Igor mentioned in their video chat from Friday night. In this game 3 Bucks had good scoring outputs as Middleton, Antetokounmpo and Bledsoe all scored 22 or more. Now the Celtics get ready to take on the 3rd seeded 76ers starting Monday night at 8pm in Boston. The Celtics went 3-1 this season vs the 76ers however the Celtics lost the only matchup they had against the Bucks which featured no Kyrie Irving. The 2 teams have not played though since January which is well before the trade deadline. Both teams have added to their teams since then and that could aid them in defending the key players for the other teams. We will recap with our guest are Rich Jensen of RedsArmy.com and Kevin Dixon Host of N the Zone Sports Radio what happened in game 7 and look towards the matchup with the 76ers
The Celtics over the last week took on 3 playoffs caliber teams with 1 of those teams being the defending NBA Champions the Golden State Warriors. On our last show the Cetics win streak had increased all the way to 10 games in a row to give them a 10-2 record which was best in the NBA. The very next night the Celtics would take on the Charlotte Hornets. They entered the game knowing they would not have Al Horford who would miss his 2nd game in a row but would have Jayson Tatum available to play. Less then 2 minutes into the game Kyrie Irving was lost due to taking an elbow in the face by teammate Aron Baynes as Baynes was landing after trying to go for a rebound. The Celtics would play the rest of the game without Irving meaning none of the big 3 were able to play in the game yet the Celtics still walked away victorious 90-87 over the Hornets despite falling behind by 18 points in the 1st half. The Celtics announced Kyrie Irving suffered a facial fracture and would now need to wear a mask. He would miss the next game when the Celtics took on the Raptors but the Celtics would get Al Horford back in the game. The Celtics despite 43 points combined between Kyle Lowry and Demar Derozan managed to hold on for a 95-94 win thanks to a great defensive effort in the final minute when the Raptors had not 1 but 2 chances to hit what could have been the game winning shot. Kyrie Irving would travel with the team 2 days later to Brooklyn after being fitted for a mask as the Celtics would take on the Nets. The Celtics would take care of business in Brooklyn 92-88 as all 5 members of the starting 5 scores 14 or more to make it 13 wins in a row and that would set up the biggest game of the season Celtics vs Warriors with both teams on winning streaks. The Celtics would beat Curry, Durant, Green and Thompson 92-88 to make it a 14 game win streak which cementing themselves as a legit team in the league. We will recap the big wins with Rich Jensen who will join us on the show
Its game 6 between the Celtics and the Washington Wizards from Washington D.C.. The Celtics are in position to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals and face Lebron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers with a win tonight. The Celtics after being blow out games 3 and 4 in Washington returned to TD Garden to give the Wizards a whooping via the final score of 123-101 to take the 3-2 series lead and put the Wizards on the bring of elimination. The Celtics got a balanced offensive performance from their top 4 plays in game 5 as Crowder, Horford, Thomas and Bradley all score 18 points or more and outscored the entire Wizards starting lineup by 18 pts. The Celtics managed to finish off the Chicago Bulls on the road in 6 games and now will look to do it to the Wizards. Daniel and the rest of the crew will be joined by Rich Jensen. Will the series end tonight or go to game 7 which would be Monday at 8pm. We will preview the game and give you the latest news regarding this game
The Celtics just finished off a 5 game Western Conference road trip their last of the regular season. They made stops to face the Lakers, Suns, Clippers, Warriors and Nuggets during the trip. The Celtics entered this road trip coming off a big win over Lebron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Celtics would end up starting off the road trip in LA to take on the Lakers in a game that saw the Celtics make the Lakers look like a joke as the Celtics went up by over 20 points in this game and turned it into an impression of the Harlem Globetrotters as the Celtics went making alley oops and a bunch of fancy passes in route to a 115-95 win. However Al Horford would be injured in this game and would be lost for the next 2 games as the Celtics then took on the Phoenix Suns with both Horford and Avery Bradley. The Celtics were given everything they could handle and more and had a chance to win the game in the end but a mental mistake and miscommunication between the players and head coach Brad Stevens would cost them as the Celtics would lose the game on a buzzard beating 3 due to turning the ball over on an inbounds pass when they were tied and could have settled for overtime. The Celtics then returned to LA to take on Chris Paul and the Clippers. Avery Bradley would return but Al Horford would miss the game and this game was a close game until the 2nd half when Jamal Crawford finally switched his power switch from off to on and took over the game. The Celtics would head into Oracle Arena to face the reigning Western Conference Champion Golden State Warriors who were without Kevin Durant. The game seemed to take a similar storyline to last years meeting in Oracle and had the same result as the Celtics were victorious. The Celtics unfortunately would follow that win up with a stinker in Denver against the Nuggets. The Celtics Talk Radio Crew recaps what happened in those games and updates the playoff picture with their special guest Rich Jensen of RedsArmy.com
Since our last show the Celtics have played 3 games. The Celtics took on the Hornets down in Charlotte. In a game that saw the Celtics win 104-98 to move to 2-1 on the season. Avery Bradley took over in that game hitting 8 3's in route to 31 points. The Celtics 4 nights later welcomed the Chicago Bulls to TD Garden looking for some payback after the Bulls beat them a week before down in Chicago. This time the Celtics would have the services of Marcus Smart who missed the 1st matchup with the Bulls. But the Celtics would be without the services of Kelly Olynyk and Al Horford and during the 1st half of the game lost Jae Crowder to an ankle injury. Yet the Celtics walked away victorious despite missing those 3 players as they knocked off the Bulls 107-100 handing the Bulls their first loss of the season and moving to 3-1 on the season. The next night the Celtics were forced to go at it with Lebron and company down in Cleveland. The Celtics playing without Horford, Crowder and Olynyk vs a healthy Cavs team. Playing on the 2nd night of a back to back vs a rested Cavs team. The Celtics got beat but managed to put up a better fight vs the Cavs then what was expected as the Celtics only lost by 6. Many sports analysts have said they wouldn't be surprised if it ends up being a Celtics vs Cavs Eastern Conference Finals matchup this season and in the first matchup of these 2 teams a shorthanded Celtics team nearly got the win and we will discuss what happened. We will be joined by special guest Rich Jensen from RedsArmy.com.
The 2015/2016 NBA Season for the Boston Celtics for some turned out to be a season over over achievement as the Celtics went 48-34 and tied for the 3rd seed in the Eastern Conference but due to the NBA's tiebreaker system they got forced to be the 5th seed in the playoffs. The Celtics went on to face the 4th seeded Atlanta Hawks and lost to them in 6 games after losing starting shooting guard Avery Bradley in game 1. Now with the Celtics season over Celtic's GM Danny Ainge and the Fans turn their attention to the 2016/2017 season. The first stop on the road to the 2016/2017 season is the NBA Draft Lottery. The 14 teams that did not make the NBA playoffs are put in a lottery drawing to see which 3 non playoff teams will get to pick first in the 2016 NBA Draft. The farther down you finished in the NBA Standings the higher your chances are that you will get 1 of those first 3 picks. The Boston Celtics will be keeping an eye on this event as they own the Brooklyn Nets first round pick for this years draft via the trade that sent KG, Paul Pierce and Jason Terry to Brooklyn a few years ago. The Brooklyn Nets finished with the 3rd worst record in the NBA this season guaranteeing that the pick the Celtics get will be in the top 6 this summer. Here is the info on what picks each non playoff team could get. Obviously the higher the Nets pick is for the Celtics the better it is. The last time the Celtics got a draft pick this high was back in 2007 which the Celtics then sent to Seattle on the night of the NBA Draft in a deal that brought back Ray Allen and you all know what happened after that. So your Celtics Talk Crew will announce the results of the Draft lottery as they come and once its known who has what pick they will discuss what the Celtics should do with their draft picks next month. Rich Jensen of RedArmy.com will join us for this episode
