Robert Horry (Big Shot Bob) is back for the Friday Shoot Around bonus episode, and he's got plenty to say about the NBA's end-of-season awards race! This week the MVP finalists are officially in — Nikola Jokic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and Victor Wembanyama — and Big Shot Bob doesn't hesitate with his pick. Plus, the crew debates whether Wembanyama could make history by winning both MVP and Defensive Player of the Year in the same season (something only Michael Jordan has done), breaks down the Six Man of the Year and Most Improved Player finalists, and questions whether the NBA's Clutch Player of the Year award even means anything. Then it's quiz time: can Robert Horry and Harper correctly name the top 15 best-selling NBA jerseys of the 2025–26 season? Cooper Flagg already cracking the top 10 as a rookie? Stephen Curry still at #1?! And to close things out, a fan question sparks one of the best debates of the season — Tracy McGrady, Penny Hardaway, or Grant Hill: who had the highest ceiling barring injury? Robert Horry actually played against all three and his live, on-the-spot answer might surprise you. Topics Covered: NBA MVP finalists: Jokic, SGA & Wembanyama Can Wemby win MVP + DPOY in the same year? Send us Fan MailIconic Seasons: Duke's 1990–91 Redemption and Banner OneHost Aaron Meyer recounts the 1990–91 Duke Blue Devils' transformation from humiliation to national champions. After being demolished 103–73 by UNLV in the 1990 national semifinal and losing key veterans, Duke was widely dismissed, but Mike Krzyzewski added freshman Grant Hill and relied on sophomores Christian Laettner and Bobby Hurley, whose leadership matured after a “whine tape” exposed his negative reactions. A tough early loss at Virginia prompted a punishing practice where Hill broke his nose, and Duke later found its defensive, disciplined identity, sweeping North Carolina in the regular season before being routed by UNC in the ACC title game, when Krzyzewski told them they would win it all. In Indianapolis, Duke upset unbeaten UNLV on late plays by Hurley, Brian Davis, and Laettner's free throws, then beat Kansas for the championship, punctuated by Hurley's lob that Hill saved for a dunk and Davis's late dunk, earning Duke's first title and launching a dynasty.00:00 UNLV Upset Opening01:39 Duke Written Off03:05 Humiliation In Denver04:53 Grant Hill Commits06:24 Hurley Learns Leadership08:15 Toughness Practice Turning Point10:54 Beating North Carolina12:53 ACC Title Loss Promise15:05 Tournament Run To Indy16:15 Reliving The 103 73 Film17:47 UNLV Semifinal Miracle21:56 No Celebrating Yet23:09 Kansas Title Game Highlights27:31 Banner One Legacy30:12 Lessons And FarewellSupport the showDid you know we are one of the Top 30 Collage Podcasts in the World!https://podcast.feedspot.com/college_basketball_podcasts/?feedid=5529823&_src=f1_featured_emailSupport the Pod or Binge the Entire Season Now!https://www.buzzsprout.com/1269236/supporthttps://youtube.com/@IconicSeasonsConnect on Socialhttps://www.instagram.com/ncaaiconicseasons/
In this episode of the Athletic Motion Golf Podcast, Mike Granato and Shaun Webb sit down with NBA Hall of Famer Grant Hill to talk about his journey into golf and how his mindset as a professional athlete has shaped the way he approaches the game.Grant shares what it's been like learning golf later in life after a 25-year basketball career, including the challenges of starting from scratch, rebuilding fundamentals, and applying the same discipline he used in the NBA to improve his swing. The conversation dives into the key differences between basketball and golf — especially the mental side of performance. Grant explains how confidence feels completely different when you're standing over a golf ball, why golf can be more frustrating than basketball, and how learning to stay present has become one of the biggest parts of his development. They also discuss:- How elite athletes practice and refine their skills- Why fundamentals and repetition never go away- The importance of being coachable and willing to improve- What Grant learned from players like Steph Curry and Tiger Woods- How to perform even when you don't have your best swingGrant also shares stories from his NBA career, including working on his shot mechanics, overcoming injuries, and how those same lessons now apply to his golf game. This episode is a great look at what it really takes to improve at golf — from the perspective of someone who has already reached the highest level in another sport and had to learn how to start over again.

Then, the guys also talk the UConn ouster by Florida on Sunday and how a local Charlotte reporter's video of Huskies coach Danny Hurley yelling in the tunnel of the arena and blaming the referees for his team's defeat has caused controversy. FAN MAIL--We would love YOUR feedback--Send us a Text MessageA perfect shot, a miracle pass, and 2.1 seconds that forever altered basketball history. When Christian Laettner caught Grant Hill's 80-foot inbound pass, took one dribble, faked, and released his iconic buzzer-beater to give Duke a 104-103 overtime victory against Kentucky in the 1992 NCAA East Regional Final, he created what many still consider "The Last Great Game." Our book of the day, The Last Great Game: Duke vs. Kentucky and the 2.1 Seconds That Changed Basketball by Gene Wojciechowski captured the memories of this iconic duel. This epic contest represented far more than an Elite Eight thriller. For Duke and Coach Mike Krzyzewski, it was the crucial step toward their second consecutive national championship—something no program had accomplished since UCLA's dynasty. With future NBA stars Laettner, Hill, and Bobby Hurley, Duke embodied excellence and championship DNA.For Kentucky, the moment carried profound emotional weight. Just three years earlier, the storied program faced potential shutdown amid NCAA sanctions and a damning Sports Illustrated cover story dubbed "Kentucky's Shame." Coach Rick Pitino rebuilt the program with four players who stayed loyal through the darkest period—Pelfrey, Feldhaus, Farmer, and Woods. In the tearful aftermath, Pitino reminded his heartbroken team that restoring Kentucky's reputation mattered more than any Final Four appearance, brandishing that same magazine cover as a symbol of how far they'd come. While subsequent NCAA tournaments have delivered unforgettable moments—Villanova's 2016 championship buzzer-beater, Gordon Hayward's near-miracle in 2010, and Gonzaga's overtime thriller against UCLA in 2021—none have quite captured the perfect storm of circumstances that made the 1992 Duke-Kentucky game basketball's gold standard for drama, execution, and storytelling. As we experience each new March Madness, we're all secretly hoping to witness another contest that might finally surpass what remains, three decades later, truly the last great game.Key Points from the Episode:• The game represented both programs at critical points – Duke establishing dynasty status under Coach K while Kentucky was rebuilding from NCAA sanctions• Rick Pitino had transformed Kentucky from "Kentucky's Shame" (Sports Illustrated cover) to prideful contenders in just three years• Four Kentucky players (Pelfrey, Feldhaus, Farmer, Woods) stayed loyal through the program's sanctions and darkest period• Duke went on to win the 1992 championship against Michigan's Fab Five, securing back-to-back titles• We explore other "great games" since 1992 including Villanova-UNC (2016), Kansas-Memphis (2008), Duke-Butler (2010), and Gonzaga-UCLA (2021)• The 1992 contest maintains its reputation through perfect combination of drama, stakes, program narratives, and executionKeep fighting the good fight and enjoy the madness of March!Other resources: Want to leave a review? Michael Tolajian, director of We Beat the Dream Team, which reveals the little-known story of a group of college basketball players who were tasked with preparing Larry Bird, Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan and the rest of the legendary “Dream Team” for their Olympic debut in 1992. In an unexpected twist, the college team, which featured Grant Hill, Chris Webber, Penny Hardaway, Bobby Hurley, Jamal Mashburn, Allan Houston, Rodney Rogers, and Eric Montross, shocked the NBA superstars by defeating them in a scrimmage – an outcome that ultimately helped propel the Dream Team to gold. Did a group of college players really beat the legendary 1992 Dream Team? In this exclusive episode of Hoopsology, Justin Goodrum sits down with filmmaker Michael Tolajian to discuss his new documentary, WE BEAT THE DREAM TEAM. This eye-opening film uncovers the untold story of how a squad of young college stars—featuring Grant Hill, Chris Webber, Penny Hardaway, Bobby Hurley, and more—pulled off an unbelievable upset against Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, and the greatest basketball team ever assembled. Tolajian takes us behind the scenes of the documentary, sharing insights into this historic scrimmage, the Dream Team's reaction, and how this stunning loss ultimately fueled their dominance in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. If you're a basketball fan, NBA fan, sports history buff, or documentary lover, this episode is a must-watch! Discover how this forgotten moment shaped the Dream Team's legacy and the careers of future NBA superstars.
A name like the Dream Team understandably comes with baggage. Who could make up a roster so great, the result can only be described as a dream? In the basketball world, guys like Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Scottie Pippen, John Stockton, Karl Malon-shall I go on?These men were recruited to represent the United States in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, the first year in which NBA players would be allowed to play as Olympians. No pressure. But as Michael Tolajian's new documentary WE BEAT THE DREAM TEAM showcases, pressure builds diamonds. Pressure, in this case, comes in the form of the Select Team, a group of collegiate players and future NBA superstars (Grant Hill, Bobby Hurley, Chris Webber, Penny Hardaway and more), tasked to stress-test the Dream Team before the Olympics. And it's on a fateful day during the first scrimmage between this practice squad and their Hall-of-Fame counterparts that the unthinkable happens: The Select Team wins.WE BEAT THE DREAM TEAM is part insider basketball, part history lesson, told 30+ years later with the same youthful exuberance by the gents who achieved what was considered impossible. The best teams internationally got whooped by the Dream Team to the tune of 30-40 point blowouts. These 19-to-21-year-old college students were the only ones who - ever - beat them. Talk about your underdog sports stories, am I right?WE BEAT THE DREAM TEAM premieres on Max February 17th.---Rate, review and subscribe to The Movies wherever you listen to podcasts!Follow The Movies on social media: linktr.ee/themovies_pod

LeBron James being selected as flag-bearer for Team USA at the Paris Olympics was problematic from the start. Beyond James' history of kneeling during the national anthem in support of George Floyd and other career criminals who lost their lives resisting arrest, it was inevitably going to lead to someone comparing James to Muhammad Ali. Cue Dan Le Batard. Jason sparks a fire-starter about his former sports media colleague for calling James “today's Muhammed Ali.” T.J. Moe and Steve Kim join “Fearless” to fan the flames. Making LeBron the face of the U.S. Olympic contingent isn't the only controversy surrounding the games. Steve Kerr is taking heat for leaving Celtics star Jayson Tatum on the bench during the team's blowout win, and Grant Hill is defending the decision to leave Jaylen Brown off the country's basketball team. Plus, Kevin Durant claps back at Keyshawn Johnson's contention that Paul Pierce could have replaced KD on the Warriors' championship team. Content producer “Mr. Reagan” Chris Kohls joins the show to defend his Kamala Harris parody video after California Governor Gavin Newsom calls for legislation to ban free speech.
