So often when a company talks about the good deeds they're doing in the world, the goal is to boost their marketing efforts and expand their bottom line. It's a gimmick. This is not the case at Special-T. Listen as Brandon Rayburn, the new president of Special-T, shares all about the little table company with a BIG mission. Early on in his life Brandon found himself traveling down a dark and scary path. He was abusing alcohol and drugs and he was spiraling down a path of no return. Finally his wife told him that he needed to clean up his act or he needed to leave. It was her acknowledgement of his problems that made him realize how far he'd fallen. He found an in-person rehab facility and program called No Longer Bound and committed 12 months of his life to finding his way back from his addictions so he could be the husband and father he needed to be. Before he'd even left the program, the then president of Special-T came on property and offered him a job at the company. He started in the warehouse making tables and eventually moved up through design, into sales and marketing, then into dealer relationships. Now he's the president of the company.Listen in to hear all about his story and how Special-T has made waves in their community and in our industry. Special T-shirts incorporating Augmented Reality technologies were among the many STEAM toys exhibited at the HKTDC Hong Kong Toys & Games Fair 2018. Myra Subagyo, Account Manager of PT Octagon Studio Indonesia, explains how this interactive technology is appealing to children, and why the Hong Kong fair serves as a good platform to meet potential clients, as well as showcase products to buyers from around the world.

Inside Firewire there are two types of surfers. The first surf the same board over and over. For example, Mike Miliken who mostly rides mid- lengths like the 8'6 Special T. Or Mark Price who mostly surfs a Vader, and an occasional Omni. Then you've got the other side of the spectrum - these guys surf everything. Any Tech. Any shape. They've got everything in rotation from a Seaxe to a Sci-Fi and everything in between. They know what they like and what they don't. They have some techs they favor more than others, but they've got experience on everything, and their garage looks like a surf shop. Today we have three guests from inside of Firewire. And each one is from the second category. Mike Thomas, who is Firewire's Art Director (who has a really wild rule that determines the volume he surfs), Mark Pesce, who is Firewire's U.S. Shop and Sales Consultant ( who surfs the weirdest looking set of fins you've seen - hint: They look like the letter L), and Tony Curto, who is Firewire's U.S. production manager (who is hilariously notorious for blowing his board selection at the Kelly Slater Wave Co's pool in Lemoore). These guys surf Spitfires and Sweet Potatoes, Baked potatoes and Omnis. And you'll find this episode interesting if you want insight into what your next board might be. You may also find clues about why you like certain shapes and build technologies more than others.
