This episode is different from anything I've shared on salon marketing before, and that's intentional. The foundation of what I'm about to share isn't based on gut feelings or personal opinion. I analyzed the social media activity of salons I know for a fact are scaling financially, growing their teams effortlessly, and turning real profit margins. And then I looked at the salons where the following is big but the revenue isn't moving. The contrast is striking. For the first time on this podcast, I'm speaking directly to salon owners about marketing, not just stylists. Because the strategy looks completely different when you're building a team, filling multiple chairs, and trying to attract the caliber of stylist who actually moves the needle. What's working in 2026 is not what worked three years ago, and the salons that haven't caught up yet are feeling it. If you want to know what the fastest growing salons are actually doing on social media right now, this episode is your blueprint! The first four episodes of After The Last Client are now available! According to the latest Keurig Dr Pepper “State of Beverages” Trend Report, the “Go-To” drink era is officially over. And the packaged beverage giant is blaming Gen Z and Gen Alpha for completely rewriting the rules of what we sip. For us old farts, wellness meant restriction. No sugar, no fun. But for younger consumers…wellness is a vibe check. They don't have one favorite drink anymore. Instead, they rotate through SIX different beverage categories weekly. Every choice is a personal statement, an emotional support beverage…with Gen Z and Gen Alpha 58% more likely than Millennials to choose drinks based on mood or occasion and 25% more likely to switch beverages based on their current activity. So, what do the drinks in your refrigerator say about you?
Last week we talked about why the systems still running most employee-based salons today are quietly failing, and how that failure is landing on owners as a people problem when it's really a structure problem. This week, we're getting into the actual framework. The four levers I'm covering in this episode are the same ones I use when I walk into a salon, pull back the curtain, and start rebuilding from the ground up! So, if you've been wondering what it actually looks like to run your salon like a real business, this episode is a great place to start. In this week's episode of This Week in AML, John Byrne and Elliot Berman discuss the renewed push for a bipartisan U.S. sanctions bill targeting Russia and compare its approach to the European Union's existing sanctions framework. They also examine new guidance from federal banking agencies on lending to non-work authorized. The conversation explores a notable difference in the Federal Reserve's proposed AML program rule, highlights key findings from Europol's latest EU Terrorism Situation and Trend Report, and reviews a Transparency International report examining the illicit finance risks associated with cryptocurrency and stablecoins. John and Elliot also discuss developments involving a high-profile IRS lawsuit and Florida's proposed designation of certain organizations as terrorist entities.
A few weeks ago, my team posted something on Instagram that we could not have predicted would take off the way it did. The graphic said uncapped commissions will be the salon standard within three years, and the response was unlike anything we've seen. 260 shares, 461 comments, hundreds of DMs and emails from salon owners who were equal parts excited and scared. So we made this bonus episode to answer your questions directly! This week you're not just hearing from me. You're hearing audio clips from real Thriving Leadership members who have implemented our profit priority compensation method and are sharing exactly what it's looked like for their businesses. You're also getting a clip from our bootcamp that breaks down the logic behind why we built this method in the first place. If you still have questions after the uncapped commissions episode from a few weeks back, this one is going to fill in a lot of gaps. Picture two stylists. One is a money machine, hitting every metric, booked solid, making multiple 6-figures. The other is producing 30% of that revenue but mentoring newer team members, showing up on time, taking great photos, and supporting the salon's culture in every way possible. Now ask yourself honestly: who is your current system set up to reward? If your salon's promotional path is built primarily around revenue-based KPIs, chances are stylist number one wins every time, no matter how much damage they're doing to your culture. And that model, which worked just fine 10 and 20 years ago, is collapsing fast right now. In this episode, I'm breaking down exactly why the traditional salon promotion structure is broken, the specific flaws in the old model that are quietly costing you your best people, and what we do differently in Thriving Leadership to fix it for good. Part 2 of this conversation with Nana Amoako-Anin goes somewhere a little more personal — and just as essential. Rebecca and Nana talk about the confidence it takes to charge what your work is actually worth, and why pricing remains such a persistent struggle for yoga professionals. They get into consumer choice — the fact that the industry has never given students a real way to evaluate or choose a good teacher — and the visual culture problem baked into yoga marketing, where the internet still defaults to one narrow, unrepresentative image of who practices. They also touch on AI's growing role in marketing and what it means to stay genuinely uncomfortable while your teaching and business evolve. This one feels like listening in on two people becoming real friends, which, honestly, it is.RESOURCESWorking In Yoga WebsiteWorking In Yoga NewsletterThe Back RoomInside Yoga MagazineTick Tock, The Trend Report and State of the ProfessionNana's Website
Something is happening in our industry right now that we just need to talk about. Salon closures are happening at scale, coast to coast, and I've personally saved over 60 closure announcements on Instagram just since the start of 2026. This is not normal, and pretending it isn't happening isn't going to help anyone. In this episode, I break down exactly what's driving these salon closures right now, the specific mistakes that are quietly working against so many owners, and what the salons that are winning are doing differently. The industry is not broken. It's evolving fast, and there is still so much opportunity on the other side of a change in plan! Ready to see exactly how this works for your salon? Nana Amoako-Anin has lived a genuinely international life — including a stint as a prosecuting attorney in Manhattan — before finding her way into yoga and opening her own studio in Ghana. In Part 1 of this conversation, she and Rebecca get into something the yoga industry rarely names directly: access to capital, and what it means for the future of this work. They also unpack the term "trauma-informed," questioning whether academic language is actually serving the people it's meant to help, and look honestly at how the US wellness industry burned hot and fast in the 2010s, organized itself around deep individualism, and ultimately failed to build infrastructure for its own workers. It's a candid look at what other parts of the world might do differently — and why.RESOURCESWorking In Yoga WebsiteWorking In Yoga NewsletterThe Back RoomInside Yoga MagazineTick Tock, The Trend Report and State of the ProfessionNana's Website

If you've been in the salon industry for any length of time, you already know the traditional commission model is broken. Stylists feel cheated, salon owners feel cheated, and somehow, we've all just accepted that this is "the way it's done." But what if there was a model where everybody wins, profit is protected, and your top performers actually want to stay? That's exactly what uncapped commissions deliver, and I genuinely believe that by 2030, this will be the standard of pay across our industry. In this episode, I share exactly how uncapped commissions work, why the traditional model keeps everyone stuck, and how we build a compensation structure that puts profit first without sacrificing your team. This is the future of salon compensation, and understanding it now is what separates the salons that thrive from the ones that struggle to compete! Ready to see exactly how this works for your salon? Let's be honest: one of the biggest challenges salon owners are hitting right now is figuring out how to actually attract, motivate, and retain the modern generation of talent. You've heard me say it many times, but if you want a team of self-motivated, hungry stylists, your brand positioning, your backend education system, and your own digital footprint have to be completely aligned. I'm sorry, but you can't fix your team until you look at how you're presenting your business to the world, and I'm diving deep into the data here to help you do it. It doesn't matter if you're an established owner struggling to fill empty chairs, a leader trying to transition from a cozy "shadowing" model to a highly profitable, structured education system, or an entrepreneur who needs to optimize your digital footprint to fuel consistent growth behind the chair. How would you like to hear the real talk about the massive amount of misinformation, manipulative jargon, and false narratives that float around our industry? We've all seen it and we've all experienced it: the secrecy around how someone actually built their business, or the people who look amazing on social media while we both know the back end tells a very different story. I've wondered for a long time: what do we do to quit the secrecy in this industry? We talk a good game about community over competition, but then we gatekeep the business part… Well, that's changing, and it all starts today! I'm in my transparency era. I'm done with playing small and being secretive, so I'm starting something completely new. Born out of seven months of design and production is After The Last Client, the newest media platform in the beauty industry. These aren't just "feel-good" interviews; they are long-form, deep dives into the real strategies and step-by-step financial breakdowns of the industry's biggest voices. If you weren't in the room for these conversations, consider this your seat at the table! The first four episodes drop today, June 8, 2026. We just got back from San Antonio hosting our second annual X Club Retreat, and honestly, I'm still riding the high. Four days with 86 of the highest-performing stylists and salon owners in the industry who are doubling and tripling their revenue, running multi-seven-figure salons, and doing $300,000 a year solo behind the chair, and I walked away with pages of notes I knew I had to bring back to everybody. Here's the thing about a room like that: there is no gatekeeping. It's almost like a competition of who can share the best strategy. And when you're surrounded by people operating at that level, the conversations get really real, really fast. In this episode, I'm sharing the biggest takeaways from our speakers, what it really costs to produce an event like this, the mistakes I made, and what I'm doing differently when we head to Park City, Utah in 2027. If you weren't in the room, consider this your seat at the table! If you want to learn more about the event, our X Club and what that looks like, go to www.thrivingstylist.com/xclub/. In this episode of the Trend Talk podcast, a companion series for the 2026 Trend Report for Planners, Joe DeAngelis, AICP, research manager at the American Planning Association (APA), chats with author and professor Tom Sanchez, AICP. The two engage in a thoughtful discussion about the rapidly evolving landscape of artificial intelligence (AI) technology and planning, reflecting on the unpredictability of the future, the importance of learning from past trends, and the need for planners to remain both cautious and open-minded. The conversation emphasizes embracing uncertainty, leveraging intelligence to adapt and innovate, and the value of collaboration. The 2026 Trend Report for Planners is created by APA in partnership with the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy. Google just changed the rules on reviews, and based on the conversations I've been having, a lot of stylists and salon owners are feeling nervous about what this means for their business. I totally get it, because when a platform that's driving real clientele for you announces major policy updates, it's natural to wonder if everything you've been doing is suddenly wrong! Here's what I want you to know: if you've been building your Google presence the right way, these updates shouldn't shake you. In fact, most of what Google announced in April 2026 is stuff I stopped coaching years ago. The real shift isn't the rules themselves, it's that Google is finally cracking down and holding people accountable. In this episode, I'm walking you through every single change, from why you can't incentivize reviews anymore to what's really going on with the "staff name" drama that has salon owners spiraling. I'm also sharing why Google has quietly become the most powerful tool for my highest-earning students (the ones bringing in 6-figures solo or are generating over 100 new client requests every single month). This is your moment to get it right. No more contests, no more checkout prompts, no more hoping your reviews stick. Just a clear, sustainable strategy that actually works in 2026 and beyond. My DMs have been blowing up lately with one specific question: "Britt, what do you think of this advice?" It seems like every time I open Instagram, there is a new business coach telling stylists that the way they've been working for years is suddenly obsolete. This week, I'm taking those viral posts to task and ranking them on a brand-new scale to see which ones are actual breakthroughs and which ones are just noise! I'm digging into the "Saturday hustle" myth, the reality of a la carte versus tiered pricing, and some incredible innovation in the bridal space that I can't wait for you to hear. If you've been feeling overwhelmed by conflicting advice or wondering if you're falling behind the "latest trends," this episode is for you. We're cutting through the hype, looking at the actual numbers, and making sure you have a clear, actionable plan that prioritizes your success and your sanity. I would love to hear what you think of this type of episode, and if you found it helpful and informative, let me know so I can bring more of this type of content to you here on the podcast! Have you ever looked at a viral post and felt like something was missing? This week, a social media campaign from a collection of private beauty schools has been making the rounds, warning that the industry is at risk of collapse due to federal loan defunding. On its face, it sounds terrifying, but once you peel back the layers, you realize the situation is much more complex than just "saving" the industry. I was asked about my opinion on the post and situation, so I wanted to do an investigative-style episode that digs into the financial mechanics of for-profit beauty schools and the reality of the July 2025 Big, Beautiful Bill. I'm breaking down why the shift in oversight to the Treasury Department is happening, the staggering default rates that are putting NACCAS accreditation at risk, why cosmetology has landed in the crosshairs of a new federal earnings test, and much more. If you've been confused by the buzz or worried about the future of beauty education, this episode is your clarity and context. Let's look at the data, address the fragility of the current model, and talk about how we can come together to build something better! Most podcasters assume discovery is the hard part, but the PMS cast and crew get into what really happens after someone clicks on your show. We talk through that moment when a listener is deciding where to start, and why telling people to “Check Out Your Podcast” without direction usually leads to them leaving instead. From trailers and websites to hand-picked episodes and social clips, this conversation keeps circling one idea you've probably felt before, you know the one where you open a show and have no clue what to play. If you don't guide that moment, someone else will get their attention instead, and they may never hear the episode that would have made them stay.Episode Highlights:[02:13] Spotlight Clip Invite[03:31] New Listener Entry Point[04:46] What Do You Click Next?[07:20] Recommend a Best Episode[09:25] Website as a Home Base[11:10] Sell the Benefit First[13:07] How Listeners Choose Episodes[15:25] Designing Your Front Door[16:47] Pros vs. Casual Listeners[19:28] Define Your Show's Front Door[19:53] Examples: Trailer, Website, CTA[24:58] Website Front Door Setup[25:46] Favorites, Trailer, Landing Page[28:42] Welcome Video Debate[30:02] Autoplay and Video Hosting[31:43] Guided Journeys and Categories[35:10] Platform-Specific Welcome Videos[37:42] Sacred Cows and Feedback Plug[41:14] Pick a Starter Episode[46:29] Premium Content: First Impressions[49:33] Latest Episode Pressure[52:07] Make Entry Points ObviousLinks & Resources:Sid Meadows', "The Trend Report":https://www.sidmeadows.com/podcastYvonne's, Late Bloomer Living podcast:https://www.latebloomerliving.com/ BC Babbles, "Casual Babbles" Podcast:bcbabbles.substack.comTrueFans:https://truefans.fm/Feature Your Podcast on the Podcasting Morning Show:https://PodcastingMorningShow.com/spotlightThe Podcasting Morning Show:www.podcastingmorningshow.comWays to Watch or Listen: https://www.podcastingmorningshow.com/joinus/Meet the PMS Cast and Crew:https://podcastingmorningshow.com/peopleJoin The Empowered Podcasting Facebook Group:www.facebook.com/groups/empoweredpodcastingBook A Free Call With Marc:https://calendly.com/ironickmedia/freestrategycallApplication To Submit Your Show For Evaluation:https://podcastingmorningshow.com/evalJoin us every other Monday at 8 AM ET for the Obsession Worthy Podcasts:http://podcastingmorningshow.com/owp/Join us LIVE every weekday morning at 8 am ET (US) on Clubhouse: https://podcastingmorningshow.com/clubhouseEPC3 Speaker Application: https://empoweredpodcasting.com/speakersPowered by iRonickMedia.com and ContentCreatorsAccountant.comSend in your mailbag questions: https://www.podcastingmorningshow.com/contact/ or marc@ironickmedia.comWant to be a guest on The Podcasting Morning Show? CUJO is a podcast about culture in the age of platforms. Episodes drop every other week, but if you want the full experience, we recommend signing up for a paid subscription. Paid subscribers also get access to our CUJOPLEX Discord and The Weather Report, a monthly episode series where we take stock of where the cultural winds are blowing and tell you what's rained into our brains.Andrea just got back from Coachella, so it's time for our annual report where we use the festival as a crystal ball for talking about where contemporary culture is going. And this year was particularly interesting — not just because of Justin Bieber and his laptop, but also because of Coachella's marked transformation into a mass televisual couch spectator event.Joining us for the debrief is Billboard editor Andrew Unterberger, who was in the trenches with Andrea for Weekend 1 and hosts the Greatest Pop Stars podcast. (He also moonlights as a basketball guy) We talk about how Coachella is actually three festivals now — Weekend 1, Weekend 2, and the livestream — and how the latter is transforming everything from the festival's booking strategy, the performances, to what the experience feels like on the ground. We also get into an overall aesthetic shift from influencer polish to rawness and imperfection, how the Bieber's set functioned as a metacommentary on how YouTube is TV now, and how the Strokes' performance visuals on Weekend 2 — which featured imagery of the wars in Gaza and Iran — touched a third rail in what was otherwise a surprisingly apolitical scene. Listen to the end for Andrea's dispatch on this year's style highs and lows, including the fate of the infamous boho circle belt.Follow Andrew on Bluesky Listen to his Coachella episode of Greatest Pop StarsRead Andrea's L.A. Have you ever had a client sit through a three-hour service, love their hair, and then suddenly realize they "forgot" their wallet? It's uncomfortable, it's awkward, and without a system in place, it costs you hundreds in lost revenue and hours spent playing debt collector. In this episode, I'm breaking down the "Failed Payment Trend" I'm seeing across the industry right now. I'm sharing the exact strategy I gave my daughter when she faced her first non-paying guest, including the photo ID process that protects your business legally without making you look like the bad guy. We're talking about why leaning on old-school barriers like deposits and credit cards on file is actually killing your growth in 2026, and I'm giving you the scripts and the structure to handle these payment snags with total confidence…and zero friction moving forward! For most salon owners, the dream is simple: hire a stylist, keep them happy, and watch them stay with the team forever. But let's be real. That "forever" goal is incredibly rare, and more often than not, the systems we have in place are the very things driving new talent right out the door. Today I shed some light on why the industry's "normal" way of training is actually hurting your chances of keeping a team. I'm looking at the scary job titles we put on new stylists, the lack of representation on your website, and why "slow and steady" graduation requirements are actually a financial liability for your business. The call is coming from inside the house. If your salon isn't profitable or your stylists are choosing to leave, it's not because the talent isn't there. It's because the system isn't good. It's time to modernize the training path so stylists and salons can both grow faster and actually see those profit margins increase! How often do you audit the strategies you use in your business? If you're still relying on "tried and true" methods from 5 or 10 years ago, you might actually be working against the modern consumer. Today, I take a candid, transparent look at the strategies that were once staples of the Thriving Stylist Method, but have since been phased out entirely. Whether you're a returning Thriver or a new member, this is your permission slip to stop doing what's "always been done" and start doing what actually moves the needle right now in 2026. Ready to go? For over a year, we haven't checked in on the state of Instagram marketing, but the game has changed - A LOT. If your Instagram is gaining followers but your bank account isn't growing, something is broken. Today, I reveal what it actually takes to turn a profile into a profit-generating machine. We're moving away from the "dopamine hit" of likes and comments and focusing on the only metric that matters: butts in chairs. I'm sharing insights from my recent 2026 bootcamp and analyzing why so many stylists are spinning their wheels on complicated content while their chairs stay empty. We'll talk about the Hairstylist Marketing Funnel, why your feed is for new guests (not your current ones), and how the "boring" consistency you're avoiding is actually the secret to becoming a wealthy stylist. Let's stop playing the role of an influencer and start using these strategies to build a lucrative business that funds the life you love. For decades, the industry standard was that a successful stylist had to be a "jack of all trades," but that old-school way of thinking is officially holding your bank account back. In a world where consumers are looking for experts, not generalists, choosing to niche down is the fastest way to increase your demand and your income, and I'm showing you exactly how to do it in this episode. Today we look at why cutting specialists and barbers often have higher profit margins than colorists, why the "Handyman vs. Surgeon" comparison is the ultimate reality check for your pricing, and the reasons that I believe specialization is about education and skill rather than just years behind the chair. Whether you are a new stylist afraid of specializing "too early," a barber ready to push your rates to the top 10% of the market, or a colorist wondering if your overhead is eating your take-home pay, here is your guide to stopping the mediocre hustle and finally earning what a true specialist is worth! Are you properly priced for growth, or are you resting on your laurels in a shifting market? I am so amped up to dive into a topic that is arguably the biggest structural bottleneck in the industry today. I've spent the better part of this month looking at the backend financials of thousands of businesses, and I'm ready to show you exactly what is holding so many of you back. This isn't just about convenience: it is about taking a scientific approach to your business to ensure your booking system aligns with modern consumer behavior. In this episode, I'm dismantling the fear-based lies we tell ourselves about online booking and looking at the cold, hard data of why antiquated systems like text-to-book and screening forms are repelling the guests you haven't even met yet. Whether you're a solo stylist or a salon owner, I'm giving you a proven framework to build a "bulletproof" booking process that captures every lead, eliminates schedule gaps, and seals the deal while you sleep. It's time to move past "good enough" and start meeting your clients where they are! If you've spent any time in a salon breakroom lately, you've heard the narrative: "The J-months are just slow," "Everyone is struggling right now," or "Clients just aren't spending money." I'm here to tell you that the "everyone is struggling" narrative is simply false, because while some stylists are watching their schedules fill with gaps, thousands of others are having $300k and $400k years. We aren't in an economic collapse; we are in a K-shaped recovery, and if you're waiting for the world to "go back to normal" so your business can bounce back, you're waiting for a ship that has already sailed. In this episode, I get incredibly transparent about why the industry is under a massive pressure to level up and why your refusal to change your strategy is the only thing actually costing you. We're talking about the death of "autopilot" marketing, why your website matters more than your Instagram right now, and how to stop being a victim of the economy so you can start winning in silence. The economy isn't your enemy! Your outdated strategy is and now is the time to pivot. I've noticed a dangerous trend lately where stylists and salon owners are treating DMs as a burden instead of a gift. We're shutting them off, ignoring them (or even worse) hiding behind auto-responders that act as total lead killers. I get it; DMs can feel time-consuming. But in a world where AI is rapidly disrupting the workforce, human connection is the one thing we need to cling to, and that's what this episode is all about. Today, I reveal why the Instagram "like and follow" game of 2015 is dead and what the algorithm is actually looking for today (spoiler: DMs are your #1 indicator of success). I'm also sharing my 4-Step Pipeline to help you streamline these conversations and get guests to the finish line without wasting hours of your day, and a whole lot more. Right now, trust has to be built before they ever walk through the salon doors. It's time to stop the automation rush and start reopening the most powerful channel you have for building demand, and let me know how this helps you! For years, I've been one of the biggest proponents of salon retail. I've taught the programs, I've shared the scripts, and I've preached that retail equals retention. But I've hit a point where I can no longer be complicit in a system that I'm watching settle like a lead weight on the books of salons across the industry, and that's what today's show is all about. In this episode, I address the dramatic shifts we're seeing to retail programs in 2026. I reveal the uncomfortable reality of competing for sales against the very brands that are supposed to be our partners, why the "1997 model" of stocking shelves is officially on its way to the graveyard, and more. If you've been feeling like selling retail has become an uphill battle you can't win, this is your wake-up call. The model is broken, the industry is changing, and it's time to decide if you're going to evolve or get left behind!
