In December, Patients at Risk aired two podcasts in which we discussed the case of Gerald “Jay” Baltz, a psychiatric nurse practitioner who was under investigation by the California board of nursing for engaging in an inappropriate sexual relationship and providing questionable treatment to a patient who subsequently took her own life. While we did not provide any identifying details at that time other than what was included in public documents, since the time of that recording, friends and family members have come forward to identify the patient as Stevie Ryan, a Hollywood comedienne and YouTube sensation who seemed to be on the verge of stardom when her life came to a tragic end at the age of just 33 years old.We are joined today by Yuni Kim, Stevie Ryan's close friend and confidant, to discuss mental health issues and care provided by different types of mental health clinicians. Yuni previously shared this information with the LA Times as discussed in this article: https://www.latimes.com/business/story/2021-04-01/stevie-ryan-death-nurse-practitionerIf you are having concerns about mental health, help is available. Kristen Carney (@KristenCarney) is a comedian, writer, host of the Mentally Ch(ill) and Ask Women podcasts, and someone who publicly copes with -- as many silently do -- depression. Happy New Year!! It’s 2018 so of course we’re kicking off our New Year’s Beautylutions! I’m sharing what I learned from last year’s challenge and how I’m planning to step up my skincare game this year. Of course I’m also sharing my favorite trends from 2018’s fashion forecast and my excitement for Pantone’s Color of the year… Ultraviolet! But first I had to pour one out for 2017 since I didn’t get to put out a year-end episode due to good old fashioned technical difficulties. I’m shouting out some of the amazing pocasts/podcasters (Bri’s Books, Tea with Queen and J, Journey to Launch, The Mariah Report)I met over the last year, those who allowed me to appear on their show (Inside Pop and Bodega Box Office) and sharing love for two podcasters we lost last year, Stevie Ryan of Mentally Ch(ill) and one of my podcasting idols Combat Jack of Loud Speakers Network. I’ve also got a new fashion statement! Sharing my thoughts on Hollywood’s decision to wear all black during award season as an act of #MeToo solidarity. Corrections: Stevie Ryan’s co-host who is now the sole host of Mentally Ch(ill) is Kristen Carney. Gigi Hadid’s brother’s name is Anwar Hadid. Sorry guys! Stevie Ryan invited me over to her apartment to smoke pot and watch reality shows one day about a year ago. We ended up recording a podcast about introverts and then we recorded another one about our short lived relationship. Of course we meandered into all sorts of stuff but it was fun seeing two sides of a whole bunch of different scenarios. Catch Stevie on her own show on VH1 called Stevie TV.
Stevie Ryan had me over to her home during heat wave of oh-twelve. We huddled under the air conditioner like dogs and talked about introversion. Since I've known her, Stevie has always seemed happiest just sitting on her couch watching reality TV. She never leaves her apartment if she doesn't have to. She also gave me relationship advice and broke down her Twitter war with some dumb reality show star.
