Sermons from Harvest Bible Chapel Barrie

It was only a few weeks ago that Harvest was accepted into full membership with Acts 29 Canada. We are excited about what's ahead for us as we dive into this new community of churches who are committed to the centrality of the gospel and the mission to plant churches everywhere. Acts 29 is a diverse, global community of healthy, multiplying churches characterized by theological clarity, cultural engagement, and missional innovation. On Sunday during the teaching time, I'll be helping us get familiarized with our new family by looking at why Acts 29 exists, what we believe, want to be known for, and how we measure success. The Apostle Paul writes that, “We are God's fellow workers. You are God's field, God's building” (1 Corinthians 3:9). The Lord is doing a great work around the world, and he has invited us to play a part in his work and led us to do it in partnership with Acts 29. I'm looking forward to looking at it with you.Sermon NotesThis is Acts 29April 25, 2021This is Acts 29Todd Dugard1 Corinthians 3:9We can accomplish more gospel work together than we ever could apart. Jesus never intended for us to function as lone wolves, but as partners, labouring side-by-side for institutional health and gospel advancement. Whether it's ministry initiatives, gospel communities, community engagement, leadership development, or sermon preparation, all our gospel work is now the direct result of a team effort. We are in this disciple-making, church-building, gospel-advancing work together. "When you watch Ahmad Aubrey being shot and you hear that those men have been released and were it not for the video and the outrage, those people would be living their lives, what part of the contract is that in society? When you see George Floyd on the ground, and you see a man losing his life in a way that no person should ever have to lose their life at the hands of someone who is supposed to enforce the law, what part of the contract is that? This week, Rachel continues to discuss the Dark Ages of Europe which shows you that some dedication will finally let you finish your centuries-old to-do list, that the Dominicans are not from the Dominican Republic and how easy the college admissions process was back then. On this week's myth moment, it's one of the oldest tales of Robin Hood as you realize that he might not be as cool as you thought he was.Leave a review on Spotify, Apple Podcast, or wherever you listen to podcasts to help spread the word! You can also leave a voice message that can be used to give a shoutout to someone, ask a question, or help by fixing pronunciation or a fact and all will be mentioned next week during the break. Patrick Hampton, Volunteer and Development Manager with Youth Villages, who discusses the history, programs and impact of Youth Villages, along with the power of serving as a foster parent, mentor or volunteer. During the interview, Hampton highlights their back-to-school community outreach effort, known as Backpack Heroes, where you have a chance to help them offer their youth a head start going back to school with a new backpack and school supplies. Youth Villages provides help for children and young people across the United States who face a wide range of emotional, mental and behavioral problems. While we help children from birth to age 22, the majority are between the ages of 12 and 17. Children come to us because of emotional and behavioral disorders, physical or sexual abuse, substance abuse, or suicidal ideation or attempt. Most of the children and youth we serve have multiple problems, which may include developmental or learning disabilities, co-occurring medical issues (such as medically fragile), severe acting out behaviors or past challenges with other programs or facilities.Backpack Hero -  the new school year approaches, Youth Villages looks forward to ensuring that children we serve are prepared with the necessary tools vital for success. Help a child with the school supplies they need. OUR SERVICES:Residential TreatmentIntensive In-Home TreatmentLifeSetFoster care and adoptionSpecialized Crisis Services and crisis supportWe believe a stable family and strong support system can help any child succeed.Learn more:  https://www.youthvillages.orgFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/youthvillagesTwitter:  https://twitter.com/youthvillagesLinkedIn:  https://www.linkedin.com/school/youth-villages/

Katie CallawayInvocation Rev. John Callaway*Affirmation of FaithThe Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.(Psalm 23 KJV)In MemoriamLinda BeachEleanor BloodNancy LewisJoe McNellageJoan UsherCongregational Response: We remember and give thanks.Silent PrayersUnison Statement of SupportWe thank God for the gift of life, for all of its wonder and mystery, its friendships and fellowships, and for the ties that bind us close to one another. In this episode, I want to talk about the dissonance that happens between what we ask our people to do, and what we do our selves.Topics:We tell people they need to get out of debt while we encumber debtWe encourage families to budget strategically while we spend flippantlyWe tell parents we want to partner with them while communicating with their kids using social media services their parent's don't supportWe say “God will provide” while we panic because we don’t have enough volunteersWe tell our people to be available for the people in their life while we are unavailable because of busy schedulesWe tell people to be willing to do anything to spread the gospel while we aren’t willing to entertain any new ideasBottom line:Every decision we make in these situations affirms or denies your church’s mission. Before you make a decision, ask yourself what it does to your organization’s mission.
