Today on the show, Bedroth dives into the stylish and cinematic world of 10,000 Bullets, the PlayStation 2 action game developed by Blue Moon Studio and directed by Yoshitaka Murayama, the creator of Suikoden. This overlooked game blends noir storytelling with intense, slow-motion gunplay, elevated by its exceptional soundtrack from legendary composers Yasunori Mitsuda and Miki Higashino. The music seamlessly fuses jazz, electronic, and orchestral styles to create an atmosphere that's as moody and dramatic as the game's world of assassins and fate. The annual “security summer camp” that is made up of the Black Hat and DefCon conferences is just past and the security analyst team, Scott Crawford, Dan Kennedy, Justin Lam and Mark Ehr, join host Eric Hanselman to examine what they saw and discuss the implications. Despite the heat of a Las Vegas summer, it's become bigger than the two main conferences, with a number of side events, like B-Sides, there's a lot going on. AI conversations are evolving and maturing. We've mostly moved beyond blaming user foibles for breaches, but AI is expanding the attack surface with new and more complex tactics for user manipulation. AI is lowering the barriers for attackers. The days of script kiddies have morphed into Claude Code-fueled attack development. The larger question is how security vendors are responding to AI risks. Claims that tier 1 security analysts should start looking for another job just seem irresponsible in the current environment. AI augmentation can reduce toil and digest the masses of events that security teams struggle to deal with today. At the same time, AI is scaling attack volumes. It's the constant hegemony that's always played out at the core of security. Welcome to The B-Side! Here we talk about movie stars, movie directors, and sometimes––sometimes––movie writers! Today, we speak with author and screenwriter Jordan Harper, whose novel She Rides Shotgun got made into a movie of the same name, directed by Nick Rowland and starring Taron Egerton and Ana Sophia Heger. The film is in theaters this Friday, August 1, 2025. We spoke with Harper about adapting his novel for the big screen, his reaction to watching the final cut of the film, and those superb lead performances from Egerton and Heger. There's mention of his other books The Last King of California and Everybody Knows, as well as B-Sides that reminded us of She Rides Shotgun, which include One False Move, Flesh & Bone, A Perfect World, and Lone Star. Harper mentions Freeway as well, which is a great call. Harper brings up his new novel due out next year: A Violent Masterpiece. There's also appreciation for Shogun Assassin (a direct inspiration for She Rides Shotgun) and a discussion of genre and genre tropes and why they are so effective when used well.

Welcome to The B-Side! Here we talk about movie stars, movie directors, and sometimes - sometimes - the companies that made the movies those stars and directors made! We were lucky to speak with Christine Vachon and Pamela Koffler of Killer Films in honor of Metrograph's 30th Anniversary program, with screenings starting on August 2, 2025. Vachon and Koffler speak on curating the celebratory program, which includes Office Killer. We also dish on myself and Conor's time as interns at Killer many years ago, some B-Sides (including A Home at the End of the World, The Safety of Objects, Dark Waters), and how Killer has survived this ever-changing industry of independent film. There's a wonderful discussion about wigs in film (prompted by Colin Farrell's bad wig in the first act of A Home at the End of the World), an appreciation of Dark Waters getting made and getting discovered to this day, and line producers “carrying the burden of the budget.” Vachon mourns The Safety of Objects being swallowed by the tragedy of 9/11 while Koffler suggests why the independent ensemble drama has gone by the wayside. There's discussion on the dangers of saying “good enough” during pre-production as well as Vachon and Koffler shouting out Killer Films B-Sides they personally love (The World to Come, Vox Lux, Dirty Girl). I shout out She Came to Me, an underrated, recent gem.

As Black Hat USA 2025 approaches, the cybersecurity world is buzzing with innovation—and Dropzone AI is right at the center of it. With roots in Seattle and a mission to bring true intelligence into the security operations center (SOC), the Dropzone AI team is gearing up for a packed week in Las Vegas, from BSides to the AI Summit, and finally at Startup City (booth #6427).Founded by Edward Wu, former Head of AI/ML at ExtraHop Networks, Dropzone AI was built on a key realization: the last thing SOCs need is another flood of alerts. Instead, they need help processing and acting on them. That's where Dropzone comes in—offering an AI-powered security analyst that doesn't just detect threats, but investigates, correlates, and takes action.During a recent pre-event chat with ITSPmagazine's Sean Martin and Marco Ciappelli, Edward explained the core philosophy behind the platform. Unlike hype-driven claims of “fully autonomous SOCs,” Dropzone takes a practical, tiered approach to automation. Their agentic AI system performs full investigations, determines the nature of alerts (true vs. false positives), and recommends or executes containment actions depending on risk tolerance and policy. The tech has found particular traction with lean security teams, or those expanding toward 24/7 coverage without adding headcount. Rather than replacing humans, the platform augments them—freeing analysts from the drudgery of low-priority alert triage and giving them space to focus on strategic work. As Edward put it, “Nobody wants to be a tier-one analyst forever.” Dropzone helps make sure they don't have to be.The platform integrates across existing security stacks and data sources, drawing from threat intel, logs, and endpoint signals to build a full picture of every alert. Security teams retain full control, with human-in-the-loop decision-making remaining the standard in most use cases. However, for low-risk assets and off-hours scenarios, some customers are already authorizing autonomous action. With conversations at Black Hat expected to revolve around the reality of AI in production—not just the vision—Dropzone is entering the perfect arena. From demonstrating real-world impact to sharing insights on agentic design and trust boundaries, their presence will resonate with everyone from analysts to CISOs.Whether you're building out your SOC, questioning your MDR provider, or simply overwhelmed with alert fatigue, this may be your signal. Dropzone AI isn't selling buzzwords. They're delivering results. Visit them at Startup City, booth #6427, and see for yourself what the future of alert triage and SOC efficiency looks like—one investigation at a time. Note: This story contains promotional content. Learn more.Guests:Edward Wu, Founder/CEO at Dropzone AI On LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/edwardxwu/DROPZONE AI: https://itspm.ag/dropzoneai-641Hosts:Sean Martin, Co-Founder at ITSPmagazine | Website: https://www.seanmartin.comMarco Ciappelli, Co-Founder at ITSPmagazine | Website: https://www.marcociappelli.com______________________ResourcesVisit the DROPZONE Website to learn more: https://itspm.ag/dropzoneai-641Learn more and catch more stories from Dropzone on ITSPmagazine: https://www.itspmagazine.com/directory/dropzoneaiLearn more about ITSPmagazine Brand Story Podcasts: https://www.itspmagazine.com/purchase-programsNewsletter Archive: https://www.linkedin.com/newsletters/tune-into-the-latest-podcasts-7109347022809309184/Business Newsletter Signup: https://www.itspmagazine.com/itspmagazine-business-updates-sign-upAre you interested in telling your story?https://www.itspmagazine.com/telling-your-story
