It has been an eventful several days for IU Athletics with virtually every current athletic program prevailing in big matchups over the last several days. We cover the improbable and historic comeback win for IUFB at Michigan St. before turning our attention to the most exciting start to a basketball season in many years. Ward is on a family vacation which opened the door for the first ever replacement “Guest Host” to break down the IUBB wins against Xavier and Miami University (of Ohio) and the overall state of IU Basketball 4 games in to the season. Such an important and prestigious position could only be filled by one man. A former Big Ten Player of the Year. One of the all-time greats and a man who never has to search for an opinion…BRIAN EVANS fills in for Ward and we get his unique and surprisingly upbeat analysis of IU Basketball.Ward is back for the guest not today's episode and he is one of the most polarizing players of the last many years at Indiana University. His talent was undeniable as he single-handedly won several games for IU Basketball when the odds were stacked against him. And, he had some head-scratching plays that drove many to the brink. But behind the box scores, 3-pointers, turnovers and tattoos, there is the story of a young man who grew upon in New York, in love with the game of basketball. It started in parks with his brothers and with legends of the NYC basketball scene. It turned into playing varsity basketball in 7th and 8th grade and ultimately to a commitment to Tom Crean and Indiana University. What started as a dream scenario with huge top-5 wins quickly turned into a nightmare with injuries turning into losses, turning into more losses and ultimately to a coach being fired. This young man's story takes a turn when a new coach, Archie Miller, is brought in to run the program—and run it in a very different way. With no pre-existing relationship and faced with the prospect of sitting out a year or sticking it out at IU, this enigmatic player decided to stick it out. Building a relationship with the new coach was not an easy task nor was trying to play in a new and much more rigid system.Losses continued to pile up, personal tragedy hit, fans directed their frustration and ire at him personally. Stress continued to mount and led to some very dark times that fans barely caught a glimpse of. But this young man persevered, sought help, and by the time his Senior year was wrapping up, IU Basketball was on the verge of returning to the NCAA Tournament. And then, the global Covid pandemic hit. It robbed him and so many like him of their senior year, their graduation and for a young man dedicated to getting Indiana back to the tournament, that dream too, died. Our guest continued his basketball career internationally where he faced even more personal battles, this time with a health crisis but he has continued to persevere. He is healthy, he is playing basketball professionally and he is talking to us about it all. Our guest is DEVONTE GREEN!See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Did you know that his coaching tree includes Tom Crean of Georgia and Jim Boylen of the Chicago Bulls? Here are several isolated responses from an in-person conversation I had with Coach Tom Izzo, in Las Vegas at the USA Basketball Fantasy Camp – back when I was the host of the Pure Sweat Basketball Show. We discussed the difference between being a great player and a great winner, why a player led team will always outperform a coach led team in the long run and why the coaching community needs to spend more time invested in self-development. Yesterday, the state’s new research marine, RV Tom Crean, officially began its service to the nation. The granddaughter of the 20th century Antarctic explorer from Annascaul performed the commissioning ceremony in Dingle – a harbour Tom Crean would have known very well growing up in the late 19th century. Amber Galwey reported on a day of pride for not just the Crean family, or for Kerry, but for the whole nation.
The RV Tom Crean was commissioned today at a special event in Dingle Harbour by Minister Charlie McConalogue TD, Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine. Ireland's latest marine research vessel has been named the RV Tom Crean after the legendary Irish Explorer from Kerry, who undertook three ground-breaking expeditions to the Antarctic in the early years of the 20th Century. Ireland's New Research Vessel RV Tom Crean Commissioned in Dingle Minister McConalogue speaking at the commissioning said: “I don't need to remind anyone here today that Irelands oceans are vital to our economy, our environment, and many aspects of our daily lives. The RV Tom Crean will undertake essential scientific work, which will support many of the projects outlined in the Programme for Government; including fisheries assessments (so crucial to our coastal communities), food security, offshore renewable energy, marine spatial planning, marine protected areas and assist the State in addressing the challenges of climate change.” The RV Tom Crean will be based in Galway and will enable the Marine Institute to continue to carry out vital surveys that contribute to Ireland's position as a leader in marine science. The research vessel will carry out a wide range of marine research activities including expanded fisheries surveys, seabed mapping, collect data to support marine spatial planning, climate change related research, environmental monitoring, deep water surveys, and undertake research in the Atlantic Ocean with our EU partners. Dr Paul Connolly, CEO of the Marine Institute, speaking about the RV Tom Crean said: “We are delighted to name our new research vessel after Tom Crean as it gives recognition to an Irish explorer of international renown whose life was packed with amazing feats of Antarctic bravery, determination and courage. The Institute appreciates the support of the descendants of Tom Crean in this decision. Our new multi-purpose research vessel will enhance Ireland's capacity to undertake international collaborative research to acquire the ocean data and knowledge essential to managing our vast marine resources.” The new research vessel is a silent vessel, capable of operating throughout the Irish Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and will replace the RV Celtic Voyager, which was Ireland's first purpose-built research vessel which arrived in 1997. The vessel makes much less underwater noise than traditional vessels, reducing the effect of noise on fish populations while surveying and sampling, so that a more accurate stock assessment can be made. The RV Tom Crean will be at sea for 300 operational days each year – heading to sea for at least 21 days at a time – and aims to accommodate up to 3000 scientist days annually and is designed to operate in the harsh se conditions of the Atlantic. The godmother of the #RVTomCrean is Aileen Crean O'Brien, granddaughter of Tom Crean. Did you know that a ship's godmother is a female who is invited to 'sponsor' a vessel, bring a feminine benevolent spirit to the ship and protects the future sailings. ???#Marine #Science Marine Institute (@MarineInst) October 6, 2022 Dr Connolly continued: “The ocean is essential to life on earth. It produces half the oxygen we breath and is a major driver of our weather. We need the best quality data, science and advice to inform decisions on the big challenges facing society – mitigating the impacts of climate change, protecting and restoring ocean biodiversity, and realizing the full potential of our ocean economy. The new vessel will be used by the Marine Institute, other state agencies and universities to gather essential data that will be used to deliver the scientific advice for fisheries assessment, offshore renewable energy, marine spatial planning, marine protected areas and addressing the challenges of climate change.” The vessel design incorporates the latest proven technologies to ensure that it operates as efficiently as possible, with reduced fuel c...
This morning Ireland’s new research vessel, RV Tom Crean, was commissioned into service in Dingle. The commissioning was performed by Aileen Crean O’Brien, the granddaughter of the Antarctic explorer from Annascaul. The Minister for Agriculture and the Marine Charlie McConalogue also attended the ceremony. Beforehand, Jerry spoke to him about this as well as CAP and EirGrid’s warning over the country’s electricity supply.
