0:00 ... Ross hello and welcome ... introduces the panel and dedicates show #264 to Lakers legend Elgin Baylor, the first NBA player to score 64 points in a game. 1:05 ... Giannis Antetokounmpo has a new Heat teammate in future Hall of Famer Klay Thompson. The guys discuss this very important pickup and how he brings a winning mentality and still effective three point shooting to the table in Miami. 7:29 ... Jonathan Kuminga is the newest member of the Timberwolves and it's a huge opportunity for the "soon to be" 24 year old to finally reach his potential after years of frustration in Golden State and a short stint in Atlanta. 13:05 ... The New Orleans Pelicans have signed Bennedict Mathurin, the former Pacer and Clipper. It's a team friendly deal that gives this "bucket getter" a chance to increase his value and hopefully cash in after one season in NOLA. He'll need to improve his defense and passing but it's a reasonable gamble for GM Joe Dumars to take. 17:46 ... Bruce starts us off with last season's Western Conference finals rematch on opening night (Thunder vs Spurs). 18:46 ... Next up is World B with Nuggets vs Thunder 20:22 ... World B likes the first Pistons/Knicks matchup and reminds everyone that Detroit dominated the Knicks last season. 22:57 ... Ross can't wait to see LeBron James and the 76ers on their first visit to the LA for a Christmas Day game against the Lakers. 23:23 ... Bruce looks forward or the first head to head matchup between the last two number one overall picks (Cooper Flagg and AJ Dybantsa) when the Mavericks host the Wizards in March. 24:14 ... World B likes the Lakers and Timberwolves as Luka Doncic and Anthony Edwards face off on December 16th. 25:23 .... Word Association ... Dennis Schroeder 26:42 .... Moussa Diabate 27:53 ... We open this week’s Shoot Around with the wild story out of Ohio: 49ers owner Jed York getting caught up in a prostitution sting over a $140 ad, and the guys break down why guys with that kind of money still make choices like that. That leads into a detour on Flock license-plate cameras popping up everywhere, capped off by a city hall speech from a guy in a full Darth Vader costume that has to be heard to be believed. From there it's Target's Halloween costume controversy - the one that got pulled and forced a public apology - which turns into a rundown of the worst, most tone-deaf costumes the guys have personally witnessed. There's also a detour into kids' shows sneaking jokes in for the parents, courtesy of a very memorable Bluey-style clip about the letter N. We close out with a start-bench-cut sent over from Clutch Points: SGA, Luka Doncic and Anthony Edwards. Nobody wants to do it, but somebody's gotta cut a superstar. 00:00 Friday Shoot Around Kickoff (Rob's on Birthday Break) 00:38 NFL Owner Jed York's $140 Prostitution Sting 03:42 Flock Cameras & the Darth Vader City Hall Rant 06:08 Target's Halloween Costume Controversy & Worst Costumes 10:05 Kids' Shows Sneaking in Jokes for the Parents 12:05 Start, Bench, Cut: SGA, Luka & Ant-Man 17:03 Wrap-Up & Where to Find the Show

Jalen Brunson is now an NBA champion, a Finals MVP and a New York Knicks legend — and Ric Bucher argues that the decision that helped make it possible reveals an uncomfortable truth about what most NBA players actually value. On this episode of On The Ball, Ric revisits Carmelo Anthony's admission that he wouldn't have left $113 million on the table the way Brunson did. Melo's comments aren't quite as damning as they initially appeared, but they raise a bigger question: How many NBA stars are truly willing to sacrifice money, comfort and personal interests for the singular pursuit of a championship?Brunson did. And now he has the ring to show for it.That discussion leads Ric into why championships require more than talent — and why he remains skeptical that stars such as Anthony Edwards, Ja Morant, Joel Embiid and potentially Luka Doncic have demonstrated the single-minded discipline necessary to lead a team all the way.Ric also tackles another NBA obsession: LeBron James. Looking back at the controversial 2015 Finals MVP vote, he examines why LeBron's enormous statistical production didn't translate into winning and arrives at a larger theory about his place in basketball culture: attention and excellence have become increasingly difficult for fans and media to separate. Finally, Ric explains why Warriors fans waiting for another blockbuster move may be waiting for something that isn't coming. Golden State's realistic goal is relevance, not another championship — and the idea of rebuilding around a 39-year-old Steph Curry is, in Ric's view, pure fantasy.TIMESTAMPS00:00 — Welcome to On The Ball01:23 — Carmelo Anthony, Jalen Brunson and the $113 million question02:00 — Brunson joins the exclusive club of championship-leading stars02:14 — Why Tony Parker shouldn't have won the 2007 Finals MVP03:21 — Revisiting Andre Iguodala's controversial 2015 Finals MVP04:21 — Why Steph Curry received zero Finals MVP votes05:13 — LeBron's incredible 2015 numbers vs. what actually decided the series06:32 — The LeBron James dilemma: historic statistics, but not enough to win07:46 — How Brunson unexpectedly sparked a LeBron epiphany09:15 — Why LeBron generates more attention than anyone in NBA history09:51 — Attention isn't the same thing as excellence11:13 — LeBron's real superpower beyond his basketball talent12:03 — Why Steph Curry doesn't command attention the way LeBron does13:31 — Back to Brunson — and his place among NBA legends14:17 — The real context behind Carmelo Anthony's Brunson comments15:09 — The harsh reality: winning isn't most NBA players' No. 1 priority16:27 — What Brunson actually sacrificed for the Knicks17:20 — Why winning a championship requires an almost obsessive commitment18:32 — Ric on career ambition, fatherhood and changing priorities19:13 — Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan, Bill Russell and unforgettable NBA experiences20:31 — What championship teams require beyond talent, health and luck21:14 — Why personal discipline matters for championship leaders22:04 — Anthony Edwards, Ja Morant, Joel Embiid and Luka Doncic: can they lead a champion?22:41 — The question Warriors employees keep asking Ric23:15 — Who can Golden State realistically add? This week on Sports Guyz Only Brian O'Neill's contract extension sets the tone for another lively episode as the guys debate whether the Vikings made the right move, leading to plenty of passionate opinions and a few memorable rants. Along the way, they swap stories about brutal fantasy football losses, gambling heartbreak, and the broke-college meals that somehow tasted like five-star cuisine at the time. From there, the conversation shifts to the NBA as LeBron James' reported move to Philadelphia sparks a debate about what could be his final superteam. The crew breaks down whether the 76ers become instant championship favorites, where the Timberwolves stack up in the title race, and why Anthony Edwards and Minnesota could be poised for another deep playoff run. They also rank their biggest contenders and discuss whether stars can truly change the culture of a team. The guys also dive into the Vikings' offseason, reacting to Jamal Adams signing in Minnesota, Harrison Smith's uncertain future, and whether Aaron Rodgers can still lead a team back to the playoffs. Plus, they brainstorm a punishment for this season's NFL pick'em competition that could leave the loser sporting some questionable gear. To close out the show, it's a rapid-fire round of buy-or-sell predictions before the conversation turns to FIFA, UEFA, and whether the growing commercialization of the World Cup is pushing international soccer in the wrong direction. Plus: •Fantasy football gambling disasters •The best broke-college meals ever created •NFL betting rules everyone should follow •Which professional sports team they'd buy with $20 billion •The best investment in sports ownership •Will MLB finally adopt a salary cap? •Could the NFL expand internationally? •The future of FIFA and the World Cup As always, it's NFL hot takes, NBA offseason debates, soccer talk, and enough laughs to keep the group chat going long after the microphones are off. Slim Dookie joins the show for one of our biggest NBA debates of the offseason. We kick things off with a True or False: do the 76ers with LeBron belong in the same championship tier as the Thunder, Spurs, and Knicks? Then Nick reveals his three biggest winners and three biggest losers of the NBA offseason before we put every team through our Blind Tier Rankings, sorting contenders, trade-away candidates, "Away Court Disadvantage" squads, mid teams, and the Fat Dookies. We also play Way or No Way, debating Anthony Davis trade rumors, Cooper Flagg's All-NBA chances, first-time MVP candidates, coaching hot seats, and whether multiple NBA legends will retire after the season. Finally, we wrap things up with another edition of Would You Rather, as Anthony Edwards goes head-to-head against Giannis, Luka, Cade Cunningham, Cooper Flagg, Jayson Tatum, Jalen Brunson, Tyrese Maxey, and more to determine which superstar you'd want for the rest of the decade. This week, we're visiting L.A. for a 1988 film that takes place almost entirely in one night, in one neighborhood, along Wilshire Boulevard. When a jazz trombonist meets a diner waitress at a museum, sparks fly - up until he gets a phone call telling him the end is nigh! With nukes about to fall, he will risk it all to get the girl and get out alive! Starring Brat Pack-adjacent faces Anthony Edwards and Mare Winningham (who got hitched in real life in 2021!) along with a cast of cameos, this apocalyptic romance features a synth-drenched score by Tangerine Dream and on-location shooting for immersive effect. Written by Steve De Jarnatt just out of film school in 1978, the script went unproduced for a decade and was almost the basis for 1983's Twilight Zone: The Movie. De Jarnatt ended up buying the rights back to direct it himself. The gamble didn't quite pay off - the late '80s Cold War thaw also chilled audience demand for nuclear thrillers - and the film ended up bombing at the box office. Still, it lives on as a cult classic, and Listener Chris selected it for us this week. And, miraculously, Chris joins us live to defend his pick, Miracle Mile! With Gavin out on vacation, Nathaniel returns to the studio just in time for one of the biggest Minnesota sports debates yet: if Anthony Edwards retired today, is he already the greatest Timberwolf of all time? The guys compare Ant's resume to Kevin Garnett, Karl-Anthony Towns, and the rest of the franchise's history while breaking down just how quickly Edwards has climbed the Timberwolves record books. It sparks a conversation about where this current Wolves team ranks among every Minnesota roster and what Ant still needs to accomplish to officially claim the top spot. From there, the conversation shifts to the NBA offseason as the latest LeBron James rumors continue to heat up. Is Minnesota actually a realistic destination? Would Miami or Cleveland make more sense? And how much does adding LaMelo Ball change the Timberwolves' championship outlook? To wrap things up, Nathaniel returns with a full World Cup recap after correctly predicting most of the tournament's biggest outcomes. The crew breaks down Spain's dominant run, controversial VAR decisions, whether third-place matches should exist at all, and the changes they'd make to improve international soccer moving forward. The National Forest Service says it will reopen nearly 40 percent of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness to the public next week, barring significant wildfire activity. Overnight camping access is set to reopen Thursday at 37 of the 103 quota entry points. That would reopen more than 400,000 acres to the public. Some entry points in Cook County are also expected to reopen for day use Monday.Gov. Tim Walz says a special legislative session may be needed to address some of the fallout from wildfires burning in and near the Boundary Waters. Walz told MPR News that lawmakers may have to return to St. Paul next month if the fires continue burning. The governor declared a peacetime emergency to deploy additional resources to the firefighting effort. Lawmakers would need to weigh in if that declaration extends beyond 30 days.Dozens of people gathered Friday at the memorial for Alex Pretti, six months after he was shot and killed by a federal immigration agent. Flowers and artwork mark the spot on Nicollet Avenue where Pretti was killed in January. Community members who help maintain the memorial say they want to make sure Pretti and the response to his death are remembered. Hennepin County prosecutors are still investigating the killing, but no agents have been charged.Charges have been filed against a 25-year-old man accused of breaking into two Brooklyn Park homes over the past week and sexually assaulting two women. Darius Olson-Baker faces 10 felony counts. According to the criminal complaint, the women provided similar descriptions of their assailant, and DNA testing also allegedly pointed to Olson-Baker as the suspect. He was arrested Wednesday and remains in custody.Basketball superstar LeBron James will not be taking his talents to downtown Minneapolis. The 41-year-old announced Friday he will join the Philadelphia 76ers in a bid to end their 43-year championship drought. The Minnesota Timberwolves had actively recruited James, though Wolves star Anthony Edwards said earlier this week they were not among LeBron's top three choices.

Big entertainment and cultural headlines drove the conversation on this episode of The Rickey Smiley Morning Show Podcast. The crew discussed the announcement that Snoop Dogg’s long-awaited biopic, Snoop, is set to hit theaters on August 6, 2027, with Outer Banks star Jonathan Daviss portraying the rap icon. They also celebrated Ms. Cathy Hughes, founder of Urban One, who joined the show after receiving the Key to the City of Washington, D.C., one of the city’s highest honors. During the interview, Hughes reflected on building Urban One from a single radio station into the nation’s largest Black-owned multimedia company and shared her commitment to amplifying Black voices and telling the community’s stories from its own perspective. The show also unpacked the latest developments in two high-profile legal stories. NBA star Anthony Edwards reportedly reached a resolution in his child support case in Georgia, with a judge setting monthly support payments following a lengthy court battle over jurisdiction and custody matters. Meanwhile, the legal fight surrounding Wendy Williams’ documentary has officially come to an end after her guardian and A&E reached a settlement, though Williams continues her efforts to regain control over her personal affairs and end her guardianship. Alongside these headline-making topics, the show delivered its usual mix of laughs, wellness advice, celebrity news, and inspiration, making for another engaging morning with the RSMS crew. The guys kick things off with Joey's brutally honest assessment of Team USA after their disappointing World Cup exit, and things somehow spiral into presidential phone calls, VAR controversies, and whether the U.S. accidentally gave Belgium all the motivation they needed. From there, the conversation turns into a debate over some of the greatest athletes and dynasties in sports history. The crew compares Tiger Woods' unbelievable peak to legends like Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Michael Jordan, and LeBron James while asking what truly makes an athlete the greatest of all time. The NBA discussion focuses on the growing rumors surrounding LeBron James and the Minnesota Timberwolves. Would LeBron actually fit alongside Anthony Edwards and LaMelo Ball? Could Minnesota become an instant championship favorite? The guys break down the basketball fit, leadership impact, and whether the Wolves should go all-in if the opportunity presents itself. The episode wraps up with some of the strangest competitions in sports, including the controversial Enhanced Games, Joey Chestnut somehow continuing to redefine competitive eating, and an all-time hypothetical: who wins a race between Usain Bolt and Joey Chestnut if both have to eat a hot dog before crossing the finish line? Plus: The biggest World Cup moments of all time Kylian Mbappé's chase for history David Beckham's iconic free kicks Scottie Scheffler vs. Tiger Woods comparisons How dominant the Big Three were in tennis Goalkeeper evolution in modern soccer The greatest sports dynasties ever As always, it's World Cup overreactions, GOAT debates, championship dreams, and enough ridiculous hypotheticals to turn a sports podcast into complete chaos.
