The NBA isn't “American property” anymore — and this year's All-Star voting made that impossible to ignore. Ric Bucher breaks down why the top fan vote-getters being international stars isn't a problem… it's the point. But there's a twist: the players' vote tells a very different story than the fans and media, raising an uncomfortable question about who the league's real hierarchy respects. Then: Ric takes aim at the “free throw merchant” label on Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, previews the new All-Star format (Americans vs. foreigners), and explains why it might finally bring competitive juice back to All-Star weekend. And in a hard left turn into culture + business: Ric calls out the optics of Nike/LeBron's MLK Day shoe release, and closes with a look at Jeanie Buss, the Buss family, and the future of the Lakers, including the resentment over the Bronny roster spot and why Steve Ballmer's financial advantage may have forced Jeanie's hand.Time Stamps00:00 “Cooking with gas” + show intro00:41 Ric announces upcoming book on being coachable01:41 NBA → “IBA”: the league's global takeover is complete02:19 All-Star vote shocker: Luka/Giannis/Jokic lead — and fans don't care where you're from03:07 Deni Avdija leapfrogs Anthony Edwards: how did that happen?04:34 Why the league changed voting rules after Zaza Pachulia05:08 Ric's theory: Ant's off-court noise may be costing him votes06:40 Players vs fans/media: who actually respects which stars?08:45 SGA isn't a “free throw merchant” — blame the whistle, not the scorer10:07 New All-Star format: Americans vs foreigners — and why internationals may have something to prove12:41 Social media's “everything is debatable” disease + Ric's contrarian code13:39 Nike + LeBron MLK shoe: “sounds wrong” and gets worse the more you explain it16:41 The real lesson: stars need advisors who say “no”20:04 Jeanie Buss + Lakers sale strategy: what's new (and what isn't)21:12 The Bronny favor and why some Lakers voices feel unappreciated26:14 Ballmer's money changed the Lakers' reality — and Jeanie's endgame27:50 Wrap-up + what Ric might cover next (Raptors/Warriors locker rooms)#OnTheBall #RicBucher #NBA #AllStar #LukaDoncic #GiannisAntetokounmpo #NikolaJokic #AnthonyEdwards #DeniAvdija #ShaiGilgeousAlexander #VictorWembanyama #LeBronJames #Nike #MLKDay #Lakers #JeanieBuss #BronnyJames #UnitedWeCastSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/bucher-and-friends. Munaf Manji and Dave Essler talk Friday betting. Munaf Manji and Dave Essler closed the week on Cash That Ticket by tightening their focus on specific betting angles across the NFL divisional round and a dense Friday NBA card, emphasizing how market movement, injuries, and usage trends shape late week decisions. Their NFL discussion centered on Seattle versus San Francisco, where brief concern over Sam Darnold's injury report was dismissed as noise rather than actionable information. Instead, attention shifted to Seattle's evolving backfield, with both Kenneth Walker and Zach Charbonnet positioned as central pieces against a 49ers defense they had already exploited late in the regular season. Manji outlined how the near even split in carries and efficiency from both backs supported overs on rushing attempts and yardage, while Essler extended the logic to correlated unders for secondary skill players, arguing that volume for the running game naturally suppresses opportunities elsewhere. The same cause and effect framework guided their thoughts on Cooper Kupp's modest receiving lines, where Essler suggested short area targets could rise if San Francisco limited explosive plays from Seattle's primary threats. The conversation expanded to additional player props, including DeAndre Swift's receiving yardage, which both viewed as mispriced given past usage and matchup tendencies, noting that a single reception could realistically clear the number. On the NBA side, Manji and Essler evaluated Clippers at Raptors through the lens of pace, defensive efficiency, and uncertainty surrounding key injuries. Toronto's season long defensive profile and the Clippers' slow tempo supported an under, while Essler leaned toward the Raptors as a side, contingent on lineup clarity and travel factors. Minnesota at Houston drew similar scrutiny, with both questioning the Rockets' reliability as home favorites, particularly in back to back situations, and highlighting Minnesota's depth and recent efficiency even without Anthony Edwards. They also touched on broader league narratives, from speculation around potential player movement to the competitive imbalance created by high payroll teams in baseball, before locking in best bets. Essler backed Kansas at home in college basketball, citing matchup advantages and motivation, while Manji closed with a points prop on Michael Porter Jr., pointing to shot volume and prior performance against the same opponent as reasons to expect another strong scoring night. This milestone 550th episode of PTSD and Beyond features a meaningful conversation between Dr. Deb and basketball coach and mentor Jerel Seamon, marking ten years since they first met. Basketball has been a consistent source of hope in Jerel's life. The episode includes a shout out to Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves, highlighting how the game continues to represent resilience, belief, and possibility. Rather than focusing on performance or perfection, this conversation reflects on what it means to live with intention, to honor lived experience, and to use what we have been through to help others move forward. In this episode, we explore • Vulnerability as strength • The role of lived experience and storytelling • Giving ourselves grace while continuing to grow • Living with purpose and helping others • Basketball as a source of hope and consistency • The impact of shared moments and long standing connections This episode reflects the heart of PTSD and Beyond where lived experience is honored, stories matter, and healing and growth are possible through connection. The Context of White Supremacy welcomes Chad Montrie. A historian at the University of Massachusetts at Lowell, Montrie is classified as a White Man and his research interests include: “'Blackface' Minstrelsy, Racial Exclusion, and Labor Environmentalism.” Gus is slowly learning a great deal about the history and import of Racially Restricted Regions (so-called “sundown towns”). Locations where White people deliberately prohibit black people from residing or even visiting illustrate what it means to be racially classified as White and the intentional White labor necessary to maintain a global system of domination. We'll discuss Montrie's 2022 publication, Whiteness in Plain View: A History of Racial Exclusion in Minnesota. This text examines how generations of Whites in this region functioned to make sure very few black people made it that for north. This text contains a great deal about minstrel shows and caging black people in insane asylums. We even connect this history to the current Racist attacks against Somali immigrants and remember that a number of those White Terrorists who stormed the Capitol on January 6, 2021traveled from Minnesota. Many Welsing moments throughout this broadcast. Please, share this podcast and Dr. Montrie's book with Timberwolves' guard Anthony Edwards. #NoSomalis #TheCOWS16Years INVEST in The COWS – http://paypal.me/TheCOWS Cash App: https://cash.app/$TheCOWS CALL IN NUMBER: 720.716.7300 CODE 564943#

The conversation stays lively as Joe Poirot joins Jeremy and Paul Hickey midstream, and the chat becomes part of the show. What starts as hobby banter quickly turns into a real discussion about market psychology, self awareness, and how collectors actually behave when nobody's watching. Jeremy reacts to a key question about whether early Hobby Spectrum results are skewed by audience makeup, while Joe offers a sharp observation: even long time “collectors at heart” have moments where they check prices first and feelings second. From there, Paul puts real numbers on the table from his 2025 five athlete experiment, including total spend, net profit, and player by player ROI. The segment closes with a deep dive into Paul's biggest mistake of the year: a Michael Jordan Star card play that didn't go the way he expected, plus a fast-moving discussion about grading trends, crossovers, and what it would actually take for a grading company to compete with PSA. Draymond Green vs Steve Kerr DESTROYED The Golden State Warriors Dynasty according to Gilbert Arenas as Gil & The Gil's Arena Crew react to Draymond Green battling with Steve Kerr on the sideline during the Warriors win over the Orlando Magic and debate if this unusual outburst is a sign of the rapid decline of the dynasty that ruled the NBA for nearly a decade. They then react to Anthony Edwards shouting out Gilbert Arenas following his game winning shot to take down the juggernaut OKC Thunder and debate if Ant-Man & The Minnesota Timberwolves are poised to make another deep run in the NBA Playoffs before breaking down the string of losses for the Thunder and discussing if Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's squad should be concerned by their unlikely skid this season. Next, they react to Kevin Durant cooking the Denver Nuggets and nearly squaring up with Bruce Brown after crossing the line with his trash talk, sparking a debate on if anything should be offlimits when jawing on the court. Finally, they react to LeBron James' comments on playing on Christmas Day as the King said he would rather not play in the Los Angeles Lakers annual holiday game and give their take on Rich Paul responding to Gil's Arena over their take on the integrity of his podcast with Max Kellerman. Nate and Danny dig into a Western Conference mailbag for the Grizzlies, Wolves, Pelicans, Thunder, Suns, and Blazers, focusing on young bigs, long-term team-building, and how to survive in an OKC/Wemby/Jokic world.Memphis Grizzlies — 0:15What has Zach Edey's overall impact been so far, and why hasn't his strong play gotten more discussion?Given that most of Memphis' wins with Edey back came against sub-.500 teams, what's actually real and what projects beyond this season? Why are Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. “bad all of a sudden”—how much of it is attitude, effort, health, or role?Minnesota Timberwolves — 12:00If Tim Connelly decides to make a significant move, what sort of framework should he pursue—selling high on Julius Randle, moving Rudy Gobert to lower long-term risk while raising ceiling, or something else entirely?Who is a realistic trade target for Minnesota at point guard who can shoot, defend enough, and still let Anthony Edwards be the primary creator? What is Rob Dillingham's trade value right now—does he bring back even a late first? Why did the Wolves let Nickiel Alexander-Walker go—could they really not find a way to keep him or other options? How good is the offensive chemistry between Gobert and Randle actually—are they meaningfully helping each other?New Orleans Pelicans — 26:23Do Derik Queen's flaws—lack of true center size and questionable mobility—ultimately cap his long-term ceiling, or can his creation ability and defensive hands make those weaknesses not matter as much?If you're the Pelicans, what kind of offers would you need to seriously consider moving each of Jose Alvarado, Zion Williamson, Sadiq Bey, Herb Jones, and Trey Murphy III?Oklahoma City Thunder — 36:57Is OKC the deepest team of all time when fully healthy, given their bench of Kason Caruso, Isaiah Joe, Aaron Wiggins, AJ Mitchell, Kenrich Williams, J-Will, etc.?Which Western Conference teams, if any, would intentionally punt games against the Clippers late in the season to worsen the pick OKC owns from LA?What is AJ Mitchell doing defensively that makes him so effective? How many All-Stars should the Thunder have this season? If Shai Gilgeous-Alexander were to get hurt in the playoffs, how good would OKC's offense remain—could they still realistically win a series or two?Which Western Conference teams have the best chance of beating OKC in a playoff series, and how would you rank the Rockets, Spurs, and Nuggets as threats?Phoenix Suns — 47:45Given the Suns' surprising competence plus the fact they don't control their own firsts, has your view changed on how they should operate over the next 2–3 years? If you were running the Suns and received a strong offer for Devin Booker, would you trade him? With the Suns hovering around the 6-seed race, could they be sneaky buyers at the deadline—and if so, what position or role should they target given their current roster and Jalen Green's fit?Portland Trail Blazers — 53:05Is Portland's rebuild a failure—especially considering taking Scoot over Amen, choosing Klingan over Edey, trading out of the Cedric Coward spot for Hansen, and the current returns on Shaedon Sharpe? With OKC, Wembanyama's Spurs, and Jokic's Nuggets (plus Houston) as massive obstacles, how should the other Western teams approach big-picture strategy, timelines, and the pursuit of relevance?Have any of Sharpe, Toumani Camara, and Donovan Clingan actually improved from last year, or is it fair to say none of them have taken a real step forward?
