The British Touring Car Championship season threatened to become a one-horse race at times in 2023, such was the searing speed of Ash Sutton and his Motorbase Performance-run Ford Focus ST. But reigning champion Tom Ingram kept it just about alive right up until the final weekend, before he was forced to hand his crown back to fourth-time winner Sutton. And TOCA's support classes were once again thrilling to follow. With no Ginettas competing for the first time since 2007, there was a different feel to the TOCA support bill this year but still plenty of impressive displays from the protagonists of the British Touring Car Championship's undercard. On the podcast today Martyn Lee is joined by Marcus Simmons and Stephen Lickorish. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Welcome to the Lovecars On The Grid motorsport podcast! Tiff Needell and Paul Woodman bring us another roundup of motorsport of events from the past week. Formula 1 was sadly cancelled in Italy, due to flooding in the Emilia Romagna region of Italy. Our thoughts are with the families affected. We had Indycar and NASCAR in America, Superformula in Japan, Supercars in Australia, the 24 hours of the Nurburgring, the Formula 1 academy, plus British Superbikes and BTCC at home in the UK! Kicking off with Indycar at Indianopolis, where we had lots of drama. Felix Rosenqvist took the win, with Alexander Rossi and Alex Palou in 2nd and 3rd place. The NASCAR All Star race took place at North Wilkesboro, where Kyle Larson nabbed the $1 million prize. Liam Lawson is leading the points in the 2023 Superformula Series in Japan. Could Lawson come into Formula 1 from here? In Australia, we had the Supercars, where the Camaros had the podiums in all three races. At the 24 hours of the Nurburgring, we had a non-German team winning for the first time in 23 years. Driver David Pittard brought the Ferrari over the line for the Winner. Formula 1 Academy ladies were driving in Barcelona, where Lena Buhler took the win in Spain. Snetterton saw the British Touring Car Championship racing this weekend. With huge, motorcycle curbs, Ash Sutton continues to run away with the championship in his Ford Focus ST, followed closely by Tom Ingram and Colin Turkington. It was a Yamaha weekend at Donington Park for the British Superbikes, as Kyle Ryde won the sprint race and race 3, whilst Jason O'Halloran won the 2nd race. There was Caterham racing in Croft in the UK, as the Caterham Academy continues their Championship. Silverstone also saw the Citroen C1 24 hour race, which was highly exciting! The last 13 minutes of the race saw contract between the top two drivers, resulting in drive through penalties, changing the result of the race. Next weekend sees the return of the spectacular Monaco Grand Prix! NASCAR is at Charlotte and BTCC at Donington!
Ahead of the action at Snetterton this weekend, Martyn Lee invites Autosport's BTCC insider Marcus Simmons and Group National Editor Stephen Lickorish to discuss the thrilling prospects of the British Touring Car Championship season so far. 2023 has already seen excitement surrounding the return of option tyres, tweaks to hybrid rules, and the challenges reigning champion Tom Ingram has face in his bid to protect his status as number one. On the podcast we discuss the changes made to the hybrid rules following their introduction in 2022 and how they will impact the racing landscape. We also talk about the return of option tyres and the potential effects on strategies this season. Finally we spotlight the drivers that are worth watching this season and the TOCA support packages which ensure racing fans have something to watch on track all day. Learn more about your ad choices.
