Control systems use direct current (dc) motors for many applications. Many systems displace dc with alternating current (ac) technology because ac motors are more cost effective and lower maintenance than a dc motor with brushes. But are they?

What started as teenage infatuation evolved into a seven-Beetle odyssey spanning five decades, including the remarkable transformation of his WWII veteran father from VW skeptic to devoted owner during the 1973 oil embargo. As co-founder of Connecticut's Small Car Company club (named after the legendary VW dealership), Dave has spent 11 years building a community that's "more about friendship and camaraderie" than Robert's Rules of Order. His current ride? A fire-breathing 1972 Super Beetle pushing 200 horsepower – proof that these humble cars can pack serious surprises.Listen to Dave's favorite episode with fellow Connecticut air-cooled car enthusiast and past guest, Guinevere Freccia - https://buzzsprout.com/admin/2316026/episodes/16886205-air-cooled-and-carefree-guinevere-s-vw-beetle-tales-and-family-restoration-traditionsBeyond the garage, Dave's "Mentors and Motors" program bridges the gap between talented technical students and restoration shops desperate for skilled workers. He shares the story of spotting raw talent in a young tech student who could both wrench and sketch an Audi TT from memory – now working at a premier restoration shop. From driving his father's '73 Beetle as their wedding getaway car to displaying a vintage Small Car Company deck lid as wall art in his office, Dave demonstrates how air-cooled Volkswagens aren't just transportation – they're threads that weave families, friendships, and futures together. Buy here, pay here dealership Oak Motors is slowing approval of credit applications as long-term affordability concerns persists and despite increased volume. Anderson, Ind.-based Oak Motors' applications were up 30% year over year at the beginning of September, according to data the dealership group provided to Auto Finance News. The dealership group did not specify the number of applications. The increase comes despite a drop in sales and amid a decline in approvals at the dealership group, which has five locations in Indiana, Executive Board Member Tiger Okeley told AFN. “We've seen about a 20% decrease in sales, and that's by design,” he said, without providing specific sales numbers. Oak Motors focuses on identifying consumers who can commit to long-term deal structures that are beneficial to the consumers and the dealership, he said. While the BHPH dealership sells as many vehicles as it wants to sell, success depends on finding customers capable of keeping up with weekly payments, Okeley said. “If they stop paying us, it didn't matter if we sold them a car,” he said. The bottom line is “we didn't get paid.” BHPH is attractive to customers with risky credit profiles or those who don't have access to traditional financing, Okeley said. Some BHPH dealerships offer customers a chance to rebuild their credit to qualify for traditional financing down the road. In fact, an inaugural survey of 1,015 consumers across the country published by Oak Motors on Aug. 15 revealed that 32% of consumers avoided applying for an auto loan due to concerns about their credit score this year. Hear more about Oak Motor's credit survey results, market trends and the state of the buy here, pay here market in this week's podcast. This episode is sponsored by The Work Number by Equifax. Part of the problem with owning and operating the only flight school in town in the 1920s and 1930s was, every time one of your students slapped together some home-built piece of kit, you'd be expected to help fly it. And 'help fly it' usually translated into 'go first.' (BEND, DESCHUTES COUNTY; EARLY 1930s) (For text and pictures, see https://offbeatoregon.com/1811b.ted-barber-diy-test-pilot-521.html)
