We are back to Jimmy Stewart appearances on popular comedy radio programs. Believe it or not, in 1947 Stewart was a guest on "It Pays to Be Ignorant," a show we have featured on this podcast on a somewhat regular basis. The show features host, Tom Howard, and a panel of “experts” (really vaudevillian baggy-pants comedians) who answer absurd questions in kind. Kate Smith pinch hits for Lulu McConnell on this one. Stewart sounds a little like he was handed the script cold, but it's fun to hear him totter amidst the utter chaos of this show. Call-to-Action Here's what I want you to do: the next time you're about to make an investment decision—pause. Ask yourself: Is this decision based on a solid strategy, or is it driven by emotion? Write down your reasoning before taking action. Even just becoming aware of your thought process can help you make smarter choices. Let's start investing more intentionally and less emotionally. Jack Ruby: A Review and Reassessment - Part 1 Jack Ruby: A Review and Reassessment - Part 2 Jack Ruby: A Review and Reassessment - Part 3 Chaos: Charles Manson, the CIA, and the Secret History of the Sixties: O'Neill, Tom, Piepenbring, Dan: Order Here Mind Games: The Assassination of John Lennon: Whelan, David: Order Here Len shows his appreciation to Max & other researchers who put out good work. Reading Chaos by Tom O'Neill became inspiration for Max's deep dig into the Jack Ruby case. Max found it highly suspect that the MK ULTRA psychiatrist Louis Jolyon "Jolly" West was involved. When West died, he left thousands of papers that were donated & archived at UCLA. O'Neill was able to view West's documents before they were picked through by UCLA archivists. O'Neill raises the question of MK ULTRA being implemented on Jack Ruby. Was Jack tortured? On a road trip, Max stopped in L.A., spending a day at the UCLA archives to view West's files. Jolly West was performing experiments in the Haight Ashbury during the 'Summer of Love'. Taking 2000+ photos of the documents, Max has been reviewing them over the past couple of years. Jack Ruby has a psychotic break at the same time of West's involvement. Coincidence? Max discovered that West was actually involved in Ruby's case by November 29th, not March 1964! Realizing how significant it was that Jolly West was involved with Ruby, Max pressed on. Len & Max discuss the history & different aspects of MK ULTRA. Len notes that the experiments & participating universities or clinics were funded by Dept. Of Defence. Psychiatrist Bernard Diamond performed experiments on Sirhan Sirhan, hypnotizing him. How could Sirhan Sirhan not remember the events surrounding his involvement in RFK's shooting? Mark David Chapman sat down on the ground & started reading a book after shooting Lennon? Notice how the same doctors are involved in these sensationalist cases, over & over? During WWII the OSS & various armies were experimenting with truth drugs & mind control. Operation Bluebird & Operation Artichoke were the predecessors to MK ULTRA. The mind control programs have not stopped. Note the connections to military You can't count on any governmental agency to do an honest investigation? Governments participate in the planning of these events, the cover ups & neglect to investigate. Oswald's murder was the first televised murder in history. Melvin Belli didn't mention how soon he was involved in Ruby's case! Mere days! Max's intuition & research has lead him to believe Oswald's murder was premeditated. West worked fast from Oklahoma to organize a group of psychiatrists to work on Ruby. Jack hadn't been insane before the shooting of Oswald, or after. He was being manipulated. Tom Howard, Ruby's 1st lawyer was involved in Ruby's case within an hour of Oswald’s shooting. Howard was the first person to public ally state that Ruby wasn't in his right mind.

Twelve U.S. Senators recently penned a letter addressed to the DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) and the Attorney General, expressing their deep concern and seeking specific information regarding the agency's approach to the rescheduling of cannabis. This letter comes in the wake of the DEA's announcement that they are undertaking an independent review of the current schedule I status of this plant. The primary objective of the Senators' missive is to promote transparency in the decision-making process and gain insights into the evidence being utilized as the foundation for this significant determination. In addition to their overarching request for openness, the Senators have also included a series of pointed inquiries that they hope to have addressed. The Senators' collective effort seeks to shed light on a matter of great importance and public interest. However the deadline for the requested information has been surpassed without any word on the status of the review, causing frustration and concern among advocates for the plant's reclassification. The DEA has yet to provide any indication of when the review will be completed or if it is even still ongoing. This lack of transparency from the DEA raises questions about their commitment to conducting a fair and unbiased evaluation. It also calls into question the validity of their decision-making process and whether politics may be playing a role in the delay. DEA's Response to Cannabis Rescheduling Inquiry Goes Unanswered For more information about this story and other top stories from the week, don't miss this week's episode of Cannabis Legalization News with hosts Tom Howard and Miggy 420. Several senators are in such fervent support of the measure that they have put their signatures on a document urging the DEA to fully deschedule the plant all together. This letter highlights the growing support for medical marijuana and emphasizes the need to remove it from Schedule I classification. This classification is reserved for drugs with no accepted medical use and carries severe penalties for possession and distribution. By removing marijuana from this category, it would open up opportunities for further research and potentially lead to nationwide legalization. The letter also points out that turning to complete legalization still does not repair the damage prohibition has caused many American livelihoods. While legalization on a state by state basis does help create stronger economies and benefit communities with additional tax dollars, businesses themselves have heavier burdens than those businesses that are not engaged in what is considered a federal crime. Additionally, many patients who rely on medical marijuana are still at risk of facing legal consequences because of the federal laws that classify it as a Schedule I drug. Tom Howard and Miggy 420 discuss this story and other hot stories of the week on Cannabis Legalization News.

The panel includes experts from Washington State: Josh Kincaid, host of The Talking Hedge; Caitlin Ryan, Executive Director for the Cannabis Alliance; and Neil Janaja, Managing Partner at Gleam Law. The conversation delves into various issues, such as the slow development of the cannabis market since its legalization in 1998 for medical use, with dispensaries only emerging in 2011. The panel highlights specific challenges, like the imposition of a class C felony for homegrown cannabis and restrictions on operating cannabis lounges, hindering the industry's growth. The host and guests touch on the unique structure of Washington's cannabis industry, including the absence of vertical integration and the requirement for a six-month residency to be on a license. The Future of Cannabis The Biden administration's move is a sign that the tide is turning on cannabis policy. With more and more states legalizing marijuana for medical and recreational use, it's only a matter of time before the federal government catches up. The rescheduling process is a critical step in this direction, and it could pave the way for a more regulated and responsible cannabis industry. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story! The big memo is in the headlines again this week with the announcement that the HHS will be releasing an un-redacted version of the memo an attorney pursued litigation to force the agency to produce the document. A highly redacted version was released last year which amounted to almost no information for the public. This followed a FOIA request that missed the deadline to produce the documents and was the basis for the lawsuit. The DEA has recently responded to the recommendation by claiming they are now conducting their own review of the schedule status of cannabis as a schedule I substance. Their review should be scientifically based on available medical data and public policy. This could potentially lead to a major shift in the cannabis industry as it would open up more opportunities for research, production, and distribution. The cannabis industry has been rapidly growing in recent years, with more and more states legalizing its use for both medical and recreational purposes. This memo could be the impetus for actual policy changes that lead to legalization at the federal level. One of the biggest obstacles facing the cannabis industry is its federal classification as a schedule I substance, meaning it is considered to have no medical value and a high potential for abuse. This has limited research on the plant and hindered efforts to fully legalize it at the federal level. However, if cannabis were to be reclassified as a schedule III substance, it would join other drugs such as codeine and ketamine which are deemed to have some medical benefits. Tune in to Cannabis Legalization News with Tom Howard and Miggy 420 to see more about this story and other of the week's top events in the cannabis legalization. Get in touch with us:
In this episode, I sit down with cannabis industry lawyer Tom Howard for a conversation about THCa. What exactly is THCa, and why does it deserve our attention? For those unfamiliar, THCa flower can readily be found in dispensaries, but what's driving its widespread availability and popularity? We discuss all of that and more in this episode. The historic memo by the Department of Health and Human Services recommending that cannabis be rescheduled as a schedule III substance has the nation on the edge of their seat waiting to hear how this is received. The DEA has ultimate authority on how controlled substances are scheduled but made no formal statement at the time the memo was leaked. Pro cannabis Representative Blumenauer and others followed up with a letter that detailed why cannabis should be descheduled but again, no formal response was given-until recently that is. In a statement released this week, the DEA are now conducting a review of the controlled substance based on available scientific data. The debate over cannabis scheduling has been ongoing for years, with advocates arguing that it should be reclassified due to its potential medical benefits and low risk of abuse compared to other drugs in the same category. On the other hand, opponents argue that any psychoactive substance should remain heavily regulated. Many colleges are now offering degrees in cannabis and funding large medical studies, which could potentially lead to new evidence supporting its rescheduling. In addition, individual states continue the legalization efforts while legalized states bring in millions in additional tax dollars. The latest news this week comes as 29 former federal prosecutors urge the Biden administration to maintain marijuana's Schedule I classification! According to the prosecutors, marijuana has become more dangerous, potent, and addictive since its last review in 2016. They argue that legalizing marijuana has benefited drug cartels and highlight concerns about youth safety and the addictive potential of marijuana.

Advent! The world literally means, coming. That is, the coming of God into the world. This Sunday marks the beginning of our celebration of Advent at St. Patrick; and, especially if you are new, I can't wait for you to journey with us the next four weeks leading up to Christmas. It is a time of obvious joy and celebration. I mean, if you can't celebrate the coming of God in our flesh, what can you celebrate? But it is also a time of reflection and examination because we ponder the second coming of Jesus as well. When I was growing up, we took a more subdued view of this month-long enactment of God's coming, at least at church! We celebrated Christmas with relish in our home, but at church the festivity was limited to a few Christmas carols, a sermon on the Incarnation, and a little decoration. Our reasoning was, we should celebrate the coming of Jesus all the time, and too much falderal and excess would be a distraction. One day of hoopla was enough. The only problem with that is our imaginations will not allow us to minimize the magnitude of the sublime, or memorialize the most memorable moments of our lives. For instance, birth, death and marriage are all rather mundane events if looked at from the fact that all of us were born, all of us will die, and most of us will get married. And yet, try as we might, we can't brush over a birthday without cakes, silly hats, treasure hunts, and gathering all our friends and relatives around. For weddings, we spend lavish amounts of money, prepare an extravagant feast, and make it a huge celebration. Funerals are the same, except in a more somber remembrance. We don't quietly bury the dead. We have to gather together publicly, dress in drab clothing, weep together, and hallow the passing with a meal. Why? It is because of our nature. We are not saying our little child is special only on this one day of the year, heaven forbid. But we tend to forget, as we chase multiple children around in the endless cycle of feeding, clothing, and cleaning up after them. So we set aside times of ceremony to sort of remind ourselves of what is true all the time. So when it comes to celebrating the Incarnation of Jesus, a fact that is just as true in June as it is in December, why all this fuss? Why all this festooning of the church, this gilding the lily with trees, candles, wreaths, and garland? Is this mere play-acting? No, and here is the reason. I will let Tom Howard explain it: The answer is to be found in the profoundest mysteries of our humanness. Of course the Lord is here. Of course one needs to keep moment-by-moment account of one's heart, so to speak. But as we have seen in the case of birth, marriage, and death, somehow ceremonializing what is true does have the effect of assisting us. We are not seraphim, who, we are told, can gaze unblinkingly at reality all the time. We have to come at it by fits and starts. To enact something by an act of will does turn out to have its effect in our hearts. If the principle were false, then the early Christians would have been mistaken to have gathered on Sundays to mark the Resurrection. Somehow the weekly ceremony brought home to them what they believed hourly and daily. (Tom Howard, Evangelical is not Enough) During this time of remembrance at St. Patrick, our liturgy is different and our messages sound the note of what happened over two thousand years ago that—in the fullness of time—Jesus came. We are pondering this from the first chapter of Luke's gospel, and this week we look at the least preached text of all the birth narratives of Jesus. It is about the time an ordinary parish priest went to the temple and got the surprise of his life! With no expectation of children, he was told by an angel not just that he was having a child. No, he got the pregnancy news, the gender reveal, the naming, the upbringing, and career of this child—all in one throw. I can't wait to begin this journey with you again. This never gets old! If it has for you, join us and we will help you brush off the Scrooge-ness and enjoy the feast!

The HHS Letter, issued August 29th 2023, rescheduled cannabis from a Schedule I drug to a Schedule III drug. This move has been widely praised by members of the medical and scientific communities, as it paves the way for further research into the potential medicinal benefits of cannabis. Additionally, it reduces the stigma associated with cannabis use and possession, making it easier for people to access and use medical marijuana products without fear of criminal charges. Ultimately, the HHS Letter is a landmark ruling that shows progress towards more sensible regulations on marijuana and opens up new opportunities for research in this field. It may also become part of a larger trend towards decriminalizing or legalizing recreational marijuana in certain states or at the federal level - something many advocates have long advocated for.
