In this episode I talk with Heidi Reynaud, a crime scene investigator and supervisor with Unified Police in Salt Lake City, UT. Heidi goes to all major crime scenes in the area and manages a team of investigators. But as a young mom with 2 kids, she started out as a 911 dispatcher, gradually finding her way into this career with a job in the evidence room, working as an investigator for the medical examiner and an internship in forensics. Now with many years experience, Heidi shares how a crime scene is processed, the tools used to collect and analyze evidence, and how she deals with the tough side of her job. While Governor Gavin Newsom hasn’t ordered San Diego County to close certain indoor businesses, the county plans to enforce new health restrictions. Detective Javier Chavez is a 12 year veteran of Salt Lake County and works in the Midvale Precinct of Unified Police department. At UPD, Detective Chavez has taken on a challenging assignment, The Road Home Shelter in Midvale. Detective Chavez has worked hard to build relationships with the shelter, shelter residents, and local businesses and residents. These relationships have helped Detective Chavez in his police work as he has been able to solve numerous crimes in the shelter and surrounding area. Chavez focuses a lot on helping people have positive experiences with the police. He tries to be very helpful in teaching people about the law and police work. He has even assisted Road Home residents resolve warrants and other matters so they can get a fresh start. The NAACP recently honored Detective Chavez with an award for his great work
