Seattle Mayor Orders Removal Of Barricades Blocking Pimp Shootouts

Seattle's mayor just ordered the removal of barricades that had been put in place specifically to protect residents from pimp-related shootouts. Not a misprint. The city identified a problem — organized criminal violence spilling onto residential streets — and someone actually tried to do something about it. Then the mayor stepped in and had the barriers taken down. This is the Seattle doom loop in miniature. The city creates the conditions for open-air criminal operations to flourish, residents and businesses find workarounds to survive, and city leadership then dismantles those workarounds in the name of policy consistency or traffic flow or whatever the excuse is this week. The people most exposed to the violence don't get a vote. The mayor does.Sean breaks down what actually happened, who made the call, and what it tells you about where Seattle's leadership priorities are — because it's not with the people living next to the shootouts.CHAPTERS0:00 Seattle Mayor Orders removal of…1:21 Mayor Wilson Orders Barricade Removal2:11 How Aurora Became Seattle's Pimp…4:30 Seattle Lets Notorious Pimp Walk Free6:01 21 Bullet Holes in Aurora Turf War7:01 Wilson Protects Pimps Over Residents8:24 Mayor Weighs Garbage Against Baby's Life9:15 The Case for Legalizing Prostitution10:11 This Is Pimp Violence Not Gun Violence11:31 Mayor Calls Resident Barricades…13:26 SDOT Replaces Barricades With Traffic…15:16 Seattle Refuses to Prosecute Pimps16:44 Only in SeattleSubscribe to @reasonablenews for daily Pacific Northwest news the rest of the media won't cover straight.#Seattle #Belltown #HomelessCrisis

Kevin Lyman is on Beyond the Barricade! Yep, THAT Kevin Lyman, the founder of Warped Tour and one of the people responsible for shaping the music scene so many of us grew up in. Madi and Lor sit down with the “pop punk patriarch” himself to talk about the return of Warped Tour, why ticket prices and accessibility matter more than ever, and how the festival has evolved over the last 30 years. Kevin shares behind the scenes stories from iconic Warped memories, what it takes to build a lineup today, why community has always been at the heart of the festival, and how he is still championing the next generation of bands through projects like Summer School. Whether you grew up sweating in a parking lot at Warped or are discovering it for the first time, this episode is packed with nostalgia, insight, and a whole lot of love for live music.----------------------Follow All Things Backing The Barricade:https://www.backingthebarricade.com/https://www.instagram.com/backingthebarricade/https://www.tiktok.com/@backingthebarricade----------------------Follow Madi:https://www.instagram.com/earthtomadison/Follow Lor:https://www.instagram.com/lorealmichele/----------------------Follow Kevin Lyman:https://www.instagram.com/kevinlyman/

Last we left off, the Tempests were moving through the West on their journey North and came across a ghost town. Perhaps a week or more prior, the denizens had left the town unguarded and unmanned, taking what they needed and left the rest behind. Undeterred, the Tempests continued on towards the pass through the mountain.     Approaching the pass, the original members of the Tempests noticed something a bit different compared to the last time they came through. Barricades, trenches, and other defensives lines had been erected. Curious about this change, Lakin took Zaan and Pez skyward to investigate. The soldiers let loose a volley of arrows towards the flying group and struck Lakin in the shoulder, which infuriated the Orc. However, Zaan was able to diffuse the situation and the leader of the soldiers was called out to handle things. Sir Reginald greeted the Tempests, recalling their last visit through the pass and quickly explained their situation. Many of his Harpermere soldiers had abandoned their post in lieu of returning to their homeland, but the Welterwatch men stayed behind to defend the pass and assure that nothing heinous came through. Magic had dwindled or faded entirely and many assaults by members of the Transcendent Maw had harried their position in the past, so seeing people flying immediately put the men on the defense. And the best defense is a good offense.     With tempers quelled and Lakin... somewhat.. subdued, we rejoin the Tempests now as Sir Reginald escorts the Tempests to the Dragonshade Camp where Zaan and Moriko could help heal the wounded men and perhaps learn more about what was happening on the continent of Drago.   We have merch! Starting off, the two begin the conversation by sharing how they first met through concert photography, how a coffee meetup turned into the idea for Backing the Barricade, and why telling stories from fans and people working behind the scenes in music still means so much to them. Their conversation dives into everything that has happened over the past six months, from Loreal leaving her full time job to tour, to Madison traveling more for weddings, and how busy schedules led to a temporary pause for the podcast. Liban: un village se barricade contre l'afflux de déplacés

Reportage International

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 17, 2026 2:18

Welcome back to another completely normal episode of your favorite daily comedy show — where we try to cover the news and instead end up arguing about how grown adults wipe. It's Friday, February 20th, and we kick things off with breaking news out of Overland… or at least what King Scott thinks is breaking news. Police standoff? Barracuda? Barricade? Nobody knows. But what we DO know is that Overland crimes are apparently “nice crimes.” So that's comforting. From there, things spiral — as they always do — into a full-blown Costco obsession. Beard nets. Free samples. Elite memberships. Business Costcos (??). Is it a warehouse store or a secret society? Why are people lining up 45 minutes for half a grape in a Dixie cup? And most importantly: why are people fighting with shopping carts like it's Thunderdome? Then we enter what may be the most detailed bidet conversation ever recorded on radio. Rafe is remodeling his bathroom and suddenly finds himself staring down a futuristic Japanese toilet that looks like it was designed by NASA. Heated seats. Oscillating spray. Adjustable nozzle trajectory. Butt dryer. Predator-style control panel. The gang debates the ethics of plug-in toilets, self-cleaning mechanisms, and whether standing up to wipe makes you a psychopath. It's educational. It's unsettling. It's everything a daily comedy show should be.And just when you think it can't get grosser — hotel coffee machines enter the chat. A travel influencer suggests washing underwear in the in-room coffee maker. Yes. Brewing. Underwear. We unpack the horror of “panty coffee,” why you should never use hotel coffee makers again, and whether Big Bean (aka Starbucks) is secretly behind the propaganda. But wait — there's more chaos:• A woman abandons her Goldendoodle at the airport because she didn't fill out paperwork.• A pediatric dentist allegedly shows up hammered.• A school custodian hides in a locker room closet.• A former police chief sets houses on fire as revenge.• Thieves are feeding stolen iPhones into EcoATMs for $20.It's a rollercoaster of weird news, questionable humanity, and sarcastic humor — exactly what you expect from this daily comedy show coming straight out of St. Louis.Bathroom tech. Costco conspiracies. Rage bait influencers. Swamp justice hypotheticals. This is the story of how Latvians stopped Soviet Russian special forces in January 1991 by building barricades from concrete blocks, trucks, and tractors to protect the institutions of its democracy in Rīga. It is a story of heroism by ordinary Latvians and journalists, with lessons for the world today. Thanks for listening!

100 years ago from this podcast's release, the BBC broadcast the first known radio scare - 12 years before Orson Welles's famous War of the Worlds, and possibly inspiring it. It was hoax - although arguably it's only a hoax if the hoaxer intends to fool the hoaxee... and Father Ronald Knox seemingly thought he was just providing some entertainment in his radio pastiche: Broadcasting the Barricades. But when it's a spoof news report about the House of Commons being destroyed with trench mortars, the felling of Big Ben, the destruction of the Savoy Hotel and reports of a mob hanging or roasting alive various people... well no wonder some listeners fled their homes. Others phoned the Savoy Hotel, the BBC, the newspapers, the Admiralty. It was chaos. But was it as chaotic as the newspapers implied? Joining us to dig into this bizarre and wonderful tale is Dr A Brad Schwartz, author of Broadcast Hysteria: Orson Welles's War of the Worlds and the Art of Fake News - a highly recommended read (and fear not, Brad will return to the podcast for a special on 1938's War of the Worlds another time). And of course, as we love a centenary re-enactment, we'll bring back to life this unrecorded broadcast, thanks to the script and a couple of sound effects (for the full works, in video form, join us Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/posts/vid-first-radio-147890189) Cheers to Father Ronald Knox, who panicked Britain 100 years ago today! #111 The Truth About The Truth About Phyllis Twigg: From the First Radio Drama to the Latest

The British Broadcasting Century with Paul Kerensa

Play Episode Listen Later Dec 24, 2025 54:28

On Christmas Eve 1922, Britain's first original radio drama The Truth About Father Christmas by Phyllis Twigg was broadcast on the early BBC. On Christmas Eve 2025, Britain's latest radio drama The Truth About Phyllis Twigg is broadcast on BBC Radio 4, bringing back to life a little of that first radio play, the tale behind it, and fictionalising some of the quest to help give credit where credit's due. This new drama for Radio 4 is produced by B7 Media and written by Paul Kerensa, who also hosts this podcast - so yes after 111 episodes we've finally brought some of the early BBC story (in this unofficial non-BBC podcast - for tis not made by/with/under them) to today's BBC. Thanks if you've listened to or supported the podcast in any way, as it's all helped make it happen. It takes a village! You are that village. Thanks, village! Episode 72 of this podcast told the tale of Phyllis, and how her achievement as first radio dramatist (we can talk about the American one from a year earlier) seemed to fade from history books as Richard Hughes and his A Comedy of Danger gradually took over as 'first radio drama'. Hmm, what an oddity. With neither a recording nor a surviving script, it was nice to discover a short story version of The Truth About Father Christmas, under Phyllis' pen name - so with that, I pitched the idea to radio drama producer Helen Quigley of B7 Media, and she pitched it to Radio 4's Drama Commissioning Editor - who gladly agreed there was a tale to tell. So on the day this podcast lands, so does our radio drama. We're proud of it - we hope you like it. If you don't, that's fine too. It's not perfect, but it's out there! #JusticeforPhyllis - and that's the goal, hopefully via some festive entertainment for your ears. On this accompanying podcast (unofficial - as it's not BBC), I chat to the cast, crew and descendants of Phyllis Twigg the writer and Arthur Burrows the voice behind Father Christmas, and the man who commissioned her in the first place. So on this bumper episode, you'll hear: Helen Quigley - director Tamsin Greig - who plays Phyllis Twigg Rory Kinnear - who plays Arthur Burrows Will Harrison Wallace - who plays Mr White Aja Dodd - who plays Jenny Adams Carina Saner - great-granddaughter and biographer of Phyllis Twigg Nick Heal - grandson of Arthur Burrows Philippa Heal - great-granddaughter of Arthur Burrows Neil Brand - composer ...Thanks to them and many more for making possible this new drama about the first drama. Oh and you'll also hear the 7min reading of the prose version of The Truth About Father Christmas, voiced by Carina Saner, Flora Saner (great-granddaughter and great-great-granddaughter of Phyllis) and myself (no relation!). Thanks to ME London hotel for sharing the recording with us - we recorded it for them, and they've been playing daily in their Atrium, as they're pretty much on the site of the first BBC studio, where that first radio drama began. I advise you listen to The Truth About Phyllis Twigg first - if it's still on BBC Sounds as you find this podcast. If you can't or haven't, you'll still find plenty in this podcast. It was a joy to make. And as I'm working on the biography of Phyllis with her great-granddaughter Carina (Publishers? Get in touch...), the quest continues...   SHOWNOTES: The Truth About Phyllis Twigg on BBC Radio 4: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m002ntmx - it's produced by B7 Media. Prosecutors allege that during a video-conference session with her lawyers at MDC Brooklyn, Maxwell used a large cart loaded with legal documents to block the door of a dedicated conference room, effectively preventing prison staff from entering. The filing states she was permitted to bring the cart into the video‐teleconference (VTC) room for meetings, but then “used that cart to barricade the door to the room” when staff attempted to gain access. In response, Maxwell's legal team denied the barricade claim, arguing the government was “gratuitously casting” her in a negative light to justify stricter limits on her legal material access. Following the incident, prison authorities removed and banned the use of the cart during her meetings, directing that she instead carry her documents by hand and make multiple trips if needed.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-epstein-chronicles--5003294/support.

One of the constants of Jewish history is that Jews have learned from the cultures around them. But this exchange of information was not an easy endeavor. Not only did Jews speak a different language, but their cultural touchpoints were different. If they were to learn from the people around them, their translations had to be deliberate, sometimes taking creative license of create buy in among the Jewish community. Between the Bridge and the Barricade: Jewish Translation in Early Modern Europe (U Penn Press, 2024) by Iris Idelson-Shein explores how translations of non-Jewish texts into Jewish languages impacted Jewish culture, literature, and history from the sixteenth century into modern times. Offering a comprehensive view of early modern Jewish translation, Iris Idelson-Shein charts major paths of textual migration from non-Jewish to Jewish literatures, analyzes translators' motives, and identifies the translational norms distinctive to Jewish translation. Through an analysis of translations hosted in the Jewish Translation and Cultural Transfer (JEWTACT) database, Idelson-Shein reveals for the first time the liberal translational norms that allowed for early modern Jewish translators to make intensely creative and radical departures from the source texts—from “Judaizing” names, places, motifs, and language to mistranslating and omitting material both deliberately and accidently. Through this process of translation, Jewish translators created a new library of works that closely corresponded with the surrounding majority cultures yet was uniquely Jewish in character.Between the Bridge and the Barricade isn't just about translation. “. . . [The Trump administration is] using Palestine. They are using the pretext of antisemitism and combating antisemitism to go after us because they know that this is the weakness of the Democratic party. When they go to the universities, they start with combating antisemitism, but then the second ask would be to abolish all DEI programs, to sanitize the history on slavery and the inception of America. And the list goes on and on and on.” - Mahmoud KhalilDescription: Mahmoud Khalil was coming home from an Iftar dinner with his pregnant wife on March 8, 2025 when he was detained without a warrant and transported 1,500 miles to a Louisiana detention camp. A negotiator for the 2024 pro-Palestine student protests at Columbia University, Khalil was a legal permanent resident who'd committed no violence or crime; his abduction shocked the world. The Trump administration was seeking to expel Khalil, not for his acts, but for his otherwise legal “beliefs, statements and associations” which Secretary of State Marco Rubio wrote in short letter, would “compromise a compelling US foreign policy interest.” A New Jersey federal judge threw out that case and Khalil was released after 104 days in detention, but the backlash keeps on coming. In this courageous conversation, Mahmoud Khalil joins Laura Flanders to discuss the night of his terrifying detainment, the “Palestinian Exception” and the case brought against him by the Trump administration. They are alleging errors on his green card application and have ordered Khalil to be deported — possibly to Algeria or Syria where his life would be under threat. Despite the risks of deportation, Mahmoud Khalil continues to speak out, and he and his legal team have filed a civil rights lawsuit with the U.S. District Court of New Jersey against the Trump administration to challenge his arrest and detention by ICE. Join Khalil and Flanders as they ask why the question of Palestine is a test for U.S. democracy — and one we are failing.“People mistakenly think that what's happening is far from their doors. They think that this would never happen to them, because of their social status, because of their ethnicity or any of that. But what's happening around us should alarm us . . . It's not about that the U.S. is becoming authoritarian. It is authoritarianism now.” - Mahmoud KhalilGuest:  Mahmoud Khalil, Human Rights AdvocateUPDATE - since this interview was recorded-  “The recent decision by a federal court in Massachusetts in the AAUP v. Rubio case confirms what Mahmoud has maintained all along: that Trump administration officials have acted in concert to suppress and silence anti-genocide, pro-Palestinian speech, in violation of the First Amendment. We look forward to the remedies that court will order and to pursuing Mahmoud's own separate and ongoing federal court challenge to this unconstitutional policy.”  -Ramzi Kassem, co-director of CLEAR, and one of the lawyers representing Mahmoud Khalil.Full Conversation Release: While our weekly shows are edited to time for broadcast on Public TV and community radio, we offer to our members and podcast subscribers the full uncut conversation. To become a sustaining member go to LauraFlanders.org/donateDescription: Mahmoud Khalil was coming home from an Iftar dinner with his pregnant wife on March 8, 2025 when he was detained without a warrant and transported 1,500 miles to a Louisiana detention camp. Join Khalil and Flanders as they ask why the question of Palestine is a test for U.S. democracy — and one we are failing.“. . And the list goes on and on and on.” - Mahmoud Khalil“People mistakenly think that what's happening is far from their doors.
