Adam has journeyed from the parking lot to the Pink Room for an hour of mourning the loss of Vaudeville Mews, an iconic Des Moines venue. We swap our favorite memories and wax poetic about the creaky stairs, sticky floors, and unforgettable nights on 4th and Court. This episode was recorded in late October – thanks for bearing with us on the slow turnaround!

Derek Muse Lambert is a man of many hats. He's a multi- instrumentalist, songwriter, artist, devoted family man, venue manager, and so on. Derek has played around Des Moines in bands like Ramona and the Sometimes, Slaughter House 6, Derek Lambert & the Prairie Fires, and Pure Gut. He also toured the country a number of times with Christopher Ford and Leslie and the Ly's. When he's not performing on stage, writing music with his wife (Ramona Muse Lambert), or spending time with his family; Derek manages many operations of the Vaudeville Mews. We talk about his number of his musical ventures, stand up comedy, his new solo record, as well as the new the Ramona and the Sometimes album available 7/22!
Emanating Live! from the regionally famous Vaudeville Mews, listen to some poorly delivered distasteful jokes, as well as songs and interviews with some of the premier talent from different ends of the Des Moines musical spectrum. Tyborn Jig are a rock band whose members are veterans to the Des Moines music scene. We talk about that lineage, favorite animals, junkie sound guys, favorite/least favorite local bands of past, and new Tyborn record. Tha Füt are an up and coming hip/hop group who have gained momentum in the last year playing everywhere from punk squats to festivals. We chat about their formation, favorite superheroes, lemonade stands, and what they feel may need to change for the betterment of rap and hip/hop in the 515. Ladd Askland is a booker/talent buyer who has hosted hundreds of shows at venues across the Des Moines area for the better part of 15 years. A majority of that time has been spent as the main talent buyer for the Vaudeville Mews where he has been since 2003. He began his venture in high school where he made many connections all over the country working with acts that went on to national acclaim as well as legends rolling through in the twilight of their careers. Ladd distinguishes himself as a booker rather than a promoter which he feels are both very different. His view from behind the scenes gives him an interesting and experienced perspective of Des Moines music.
TJ Wood is a recognizable figure of Des Moines music. In recent years he's served as a bartender at Vaudeville Mews and The Lift. But besides his assistance running venues and curating shows, he is also a drummer known for his stints in bands Skin of Earth, Christ Puncher, and the heralded post hardcore outfit, Feathers Are Beautiful. We recount his days playing in various bands as well as his time working at legendary punk rock bar, Hairy Mary's. During his time working the iconic establishment, he saw his fair share of fights and general weirdness. While TJ has been off stage for some time, don't count him out as you may see him behind the drums yet again in the near future.
Amedeo Rossi is the proprietor of the Vaudeville Mews and The Lift on 4th Street in Des Moines, which has provided an atmosphere for stimulating and cultivating the creative arts for over a decade. As well as being an entrepreneur, he is a member of Des Moines Music Coalition. He also serves as Project Manager for the 80/35 Music Festival where he oversees, books, and acts as Grand Poo-Bah. Between all of his commitments, he somehow finds time to help facilitate the Nitefall on the River Concert series with Sam Summers (Hinterland, Firstfleet, Wooly’s). A very busy, genuine guy with some very inspirational insights.
Joe Horn was the bass player for Easy Fruit and Pure Gut. He has also been a resident bartender at the Vaudeville Mews. He has since moved to Florida but before setting sail, he came by to gab about; tipping flower pots, early musical influences, casting witch spells on gifts that he gives out as birthday gifts, his teenage years in the Ames band Make Like Trees, cleaning bum diarrhea out of the back bar, cassettes, time in the military, favorite Des Moines bands, opening for Andrew W.K., and a bunch of other weird shit.
Clint Curtis is an actor, musician, blogger, and master barkeep. He has been a staple of the Vaudeville Mews where he has worked for a number of years. Working there has led him to witness thousands of bands and a lot of random interaction with the public which he began to document for his blog. Soon, he can add author to his resume because he his turning his popular blog tales into a book. He spent his early years playing in bands and acting around the country. Dedication to his craft led to a nice run working as a professional actor in Hollywood and having encounters with some high profile names he's not ashamed to name. Clint's fascinating life thus far made for a fantastic and hilarious conversation.
