From 106.9 Vox FM in Wollongong, Dee Milenkovic shares a tale that is attached to a national scandal, the story of the Ruby Princess when it hit the docks in Port Kembla. Supervising production from Sharon Davis. Training from the Community Media Training Organisation. Distributed by the Community Radio Network. Produced for the 2021 CBAA National Features and Documentary Series. When I heard about the “death ship” berthing in my town, I saw fear turn to hatred as people scrambled to keep our community safe from the infested Ruby Princess cruise ship. Then one day, a lone voice of compassion cut through the sea of anger and panic and showed us that we weren't helpless against a viral enemy. My documentary tells the story of how this man's compassionate action turned the tide in one of Australia's most sensational public health disasters. Special Thanks John Kewa, the star of the show Mark Sleigh, Destination Wollongong Justin Huntsdale, ABC Illawarra Nicole Dillon, go-getting local Unnamed local fisherman, vox pop interviewee Peter Ernst, Port Authority boss Sharon Davis, mentor extraordinaire Chris Yates, sfx and tech guru Giordana Caputo, the very patient CMTO big boss Abe Killian, CRN good guy My beautiful boy, who cheered me through every win and hugged me through every freak-out during the making of this documentary The VOX FM Board of Directors, a bunch of absolute legends who continue to support my out-of-the-box ideas Credits Lights of Wollongong, Black Moon Band Shelter, Arcadians Choir See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Lots of fun with Lesley on Vox FM - in this interview we cover my books to manifestation. Self talk to self love... so much! Enjoy!
ALL. STAR. (pod)CAST. YO. Myself, Sean Sheap and S. Hershel Walker returned to the Illawarra Record Fair for the 3rd time this year and recorded TWO episodes. This is part one, where we were joined by Peter Langstaff and two former Vox FM alums in DJ Fury and Bruno the Bluesman, also known as Dr. Dust, according to Lord Lucifer. We neglected to actually clarify that, but it sounds cool. I always wanted a cool nickname, like Smokey, but it never took off. It's not the same when you name yourself. We took in the scenery, had some pub-grub and talked a colossal amount of codswallop about a bunch of things. As mentioned above, this is part one. It would always shit me when podcasts split up episodes into two parts, but I'd like to think we do it artfully.. Or that's what I'm telling myself anyway. Plus you always end up becoming what you hate the most. It's a fact of life. Stay tuned for Part 2 coming soon...ish.
Peter Langstaff is a really nice guy. Until very recently he was a part of the long running local music radio show "Doing it Locally" on VoxFM. On top of that, he plays and makes music too. A few weeks ago we met up at Dicey Riley's to talk about music, podcasts, comedy and of course radio. In particular, community radio. On this episode, basically I come to terms with the fact that Vox FM is my 'White Whale', or in the podcast parlance; they are the Lorne Michaels to my Marc Maron.. Seeing that typed out makes me look pretty sad indeed! Nevertheless, this one was really fun because I got to chat to a guy I've heard of and know about, but never actually met and it was good times all round. Many thanks to Peter for taking the time out, and keep an eye out for his future endeavours be that of the musical nature, or the podcast variety. Links below. South Coast podcasting ya'll, we're making it happen! More on that later. Vulcan gang sign salutations! Facebook: Peter Langstaff Twitter: @peterlangstaff Instagram: @peterlangstaff

The Big Payback was a Wollongong community radio show on 106.9 VOX FM that ran for twenty years from 1990 until 2010. If you've listened to earlier episodes, you'll know I have a very short, but memorable (probably not so much for them) relationship with VOX FM. This week, the oh gee SKOOP, one of the founders of the show and one of the first hip-hop artists in the region, sits down and educates me on the early days of hip-hop culture, in this region, country and around the world. I'd like to send a colossally massive thanks to SKOOP for coming down and waxing philosophical with me.
