Expert in getting sh*t done, best selling author and award-winning business woman.

Not perfect. Not unbothered. Not some zen version of yourself who never gets triggered. Just real, grounded, present and you. In this episode Emma Queen paints the picture of what nervous system regulation actually looks like in everyday life. Not a destination you arrive at once, but a felt sense you keep returning to. Hard days get shorter. Triggers feel less like ambushes. You stop white-knuckling through life and start actually living it. We talk about why regulation has nothing to do with being calm (it's actually about being free), what it means to have discipline that comes from kindness rather than pressure, and why a girl from Birmingham who got married at 19 and survived a domestic violence marriage is standing here at nearly 50 saying she has never been so free in her entire life. Plus a simple eyes-closed practice that shows you exactly where your regulated self already lives. Spoiler: we're not building something new. We're remembering.

There's a version of healing that looks like blowing everything up. Leaving the marriage, quitting the job, cutting off the family. Sometimes that's exactly what needs to happen. But sometimes it's just a nervous system looking for an exit. Emotional sovereignty is something quieter. And a lot more powerful. In this episode Emma Queen breaks down what emotional sovereignty actually means: choosing yourself without making anyone else the villain. No blame story. No victim narrative. No waiting for an apology that might never come before you're allowed to feel okay. We talk about why this is the hardest and most mature version of healing, why this isn't about bypassing what happened to you, and how to stop outsourcing your emotional state to people who may never give you what you need. Plus a practical in-episode exercise to try on right now, and why your brain is already telling you stories so you may as well make them better ones. Freedom is available to you. This episode shows you what that actually looks like.

Originally recorded for the MBN Podcast with Kat Robson-Scarborough. (Now known as the 8% club) Emma Queen moved to Australia at 18 because of Neighbours and Home and Away. She thought it would look like Summer Bay. It did not. What followed was a marriage at 19, gyms, 45 fitness classes a week, burnout, domestic violence, a single-mum fresh start, and a very long search for answers to one question: why do people do so much work on themselves and still self-sabotage? That question led her, accidentally on purpose, to nervous system regulation. This bonus episode is Emma's origin story — unscripted, honest, and a little bit funny. A woman with a Parkinson's diagnosis now riding horses. A woman who hadn't left her bed in two years sending photos from the beach. A guy at a charity event asking what qualifies her to write books, and Emma telling him she has a PhD in awesomeness. If you're new here, start with this one. Then go back to episode one.

Hand on heart: how do you actually unwind at the end of the day? Wine? Netflix? Doom scrolling? Staying busy so you don't have to feel it? No judgment. These are human things. But there's a question worth asking: are you unwinding, or are you avoiding? In this episode Emma Queen breaks down the difference between coping (turning the volume down) and regulating (actually changing the station). We talk about why coping works until it doesn't, why you don't have to give up the wine or the Netflix binge, and what it looks like when you're the duck gliding smoothly across the water while your legs are absolutely losing it underneath. Plus the 80/20 of it all, a word on being kinder to yourself, and a 60-second practice you can do tonight before you reach for your usual unwind. Coping has a place. But if it's your only tool, you're managing, not healing.

Pull your socks up. Just stress less. Be more patient. Sound familiar? We've all said it. And it works for about four minutes before something happens and you're right back there. Here's the truth: it's not a discipline problem. It's biology. In this episode Emma Queen explains why willpower lives in the prefrontal cortex (your thinking brain) and why that part of your brain goes completely offline the moment your nervous system is activated. We get into what's actually happening in your body under stress, why you can't find your words when you're upset, why panic attacks feel like you're genuinely dying, and why telling yourself to calm down is possibly the least helpful thing you can do. Plus: the Pareto Principle applied to nervous system regulation, and the one-sentence practice that actually recruits your thinking brain back online when you're triggered. Spoiler: it's not meditation. It's much simpler than that.

Why do you keep reacting that way? Why can't you just be calm? What is actually wrong with you? Nothing. That's the answer. In this episode Emma Queen breaks down why your nervous system is not malfunctioning, it's doing exactly what it learned to do from your earliest experiences. We get into neuroception (your body's constant safety scan), why your brain burns 25% of your daily calories just running in the background, and why the patterns you most want to change were actually brilliant survival strategies once. We also talk about trauma (and why there's no hierarchy in it), why shame and willpower will never retrain your nervous system, and what regulation actually means. Spoiler: it's not about being calm. It's about being able to return to calm. Plus one question that changes everything: instead of "what's wrong with me?", try "what is this protecting me from?"

You've been to therapy. Done the journaling, the retreats, the CBT. You've talked about it, processed it, read all the books. And yet something underneath still feels... off. Like there's old programming still running the show. Here's the thing: talking about it can only take you so far. In this first episode, Emma Queen, nervous system coach, RTT therapist, EMDR practitioner and breathwork teacher, breaks down why so many women who have done "all the right things" still feel stuck. The missing piece? Your body.

Student Hypnosis - Study focus and exam prep by Emma Queen

Healing Vortex is a gentle nervous system guided visualisation for anyone moving through illness, recovery or physical fatigue. This is not about forcing the body to heal or fighting against it. It is about creating the internal conditions that support regulation, steadiness and restoration. Using soft imagery of a clearing vortex and cellular memory, this practice helps you release stored stress, harsh self talk and emotional residue while supporting your body's natural intelligence. Best listened to in a quiet, safe space where you can fully relax. Your body is not broken. It is responding. And it already knows more than you think.

This meditation was recorded on the 3/4/24 and starts with us laughing. The quality wasn't 100%, but I figured you might still like it. It will take you through breath awareness, visualisation/mantra of So Ham then a yoga nidra.
